When it works, it's great. But...

Bought this to help extend the wifi in my 2 story, 800 sq ft condo. The Cox owned modem is downstairs, and getting a reliably strong signal upstairs to a couple of smart TV's was sometimes kind of iffy. These install quickly and easily, but as I've been finding out, the satellite receiver upstairs often loses contact with the main unit downstairs, even though when I test the mesh connection it says they have a "great" connection. This usually requires power cycling the satellite receiver to get back in operation. In another home, I have a (much more expensive) Netgear Orbi system with a main and satellite receiver to cover twice as much area as in the condo using the Nest, and those two units never lose contact with each other. If you want a relatively inexpensive mesh, get this. If you want great reliability, get the Orbi.

Hi Realist, thanks for sharing your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that you came across connectivity issues with Nest Wifi.

The Nest Wifi router can cover up to 2200 square feet. Each Nest Wifi point can cover up to 1600 square feet. However, Wi-Fi signal coverage may be affected by different factors and we recommend trying out some tips below to help isolate the issue:
      - As a general rule, points work best when they’re no more than two rooms away from each other. For example, if the far end of your house has weak Wi-Fi, don’t put a Wifi point in that exact spot. Instead, put it part way in that direction. Try to place it in an elevated position like on a shelf.
      - Building materials and other objects located between your Nest Wifi Points and mobile devices may slow your connection. If possible, try to use your device within a clear line of sight to your primary and secondary Points.
      - There could be signal interference due to traffic on your Wi-Fi network, on your neighbors' Wi-Fi networks, or from other sources like microwaves or baby monitors.

If you'd like us to take a look at the issue, feel free to contact our support team so we can help you further. You can visit our help page using this link: https://support.google.com/wifi/gethelp Nest

Before opening these up, we realized the less powerful, less expensive Google mesh model would meet our needs, so returned this to Best Buy. The return was quick easy. We bought the less powerful model, which was easy to set up and has given us 100% reliable connectivity.

Went from netgear nighthawk to GOOGLE WIFI!!!- no comparison; I'm blown away. I went from hit or miss and kicked off the internet every 5 minutes to 'what else do you need?' The netgear was overwhelmed; the Google is barely breaking a sweat. The Google wifi is that amazing. It is all that - and a bag of chips!

I purchased these hoping to update my old mesh but learned these do not allow you to use wired connections on the points. The router does so if you have an existing Google WiFi mesh, only purchase the new router and use that as the first device. You’ll also need to factory reset the old network. Also Grab the new app

Before I got this product there weak spots where WiFi could not reach in my house, had low upload at 5 mbps and download speed at 50-100 mbps, and very high latency, but ever since I got this mesh router my download speed has been 300-500 mbps and upload speed has been 40 mbps and latency has been 5 ms

I have the 1st generation and it works beautifully and every add on point even has a LAN port. This generation is so buggy. The software and hardware having major problems. To set this up you go to Google Home app. OK easy enough. To view the status Network, router/add on points or reboot the system and use all the advanced features you go over the Google WIFI app. REALLY GOOGLE? Than when you go over to Google WIFI you might get a surprise like showing 2 Kitchen (name of your wifi point) when you set it up as Living room, Kitchen, Master Bedroom. Called Google, they said "yeah we haven't ported over all the features to Google Wifi yet but we are working on it" To top off everything, it worked great for a 2 months when 1 of the wifi points said "Weak Signal". So I moved it to 2" from the Router, still weak signal. Again I call Google. They walk me through changing the DNS to a Custom address. That worked for all of 2 weeks, now again that same add on point is WEAK again. Think I will stick with Netgear.
