I recently had my home Internet services upgraded to 50 megabit service. I wanted to created wire Internet connections for all of my home theater devices: Playstation3 and 4, DirectTV receiver, Denon Multichannel receiver, Slingbox, etc. in order to take full advantage of all that speed. This switch had plenty of connections and decent reviews so I bought it. It looks am title different than the one in the photo. No setup was required - just plug in the source cable and all the connected devices. Since it is only a switch the ports settings I had previously created for these devices still worked. It did seem to need the router to be power cycled to get things connected, but otherwise there was nothing else required. Of course it's only a switch so it shouldn't have needed anything, but still it was refreshing to buy a networking product that didn't have to have a firmware or software update as soon as it is unboxed.

I originally purchased this swich to install in my AV system since all new AV equipment seems need an Ethernet connection, but I discovered my existing switch was already at thi speed. I wound up using it in my office to replace a 10/100 ethernet switch to improve LAN performance, but I need a few more ports to connect everything. Installation was as easy as unboxing the unit and its power supply, making the connections with my equipment and applying power. It is currently on my desk but I plan on wall mounting it soon. I am using all of the ports without issue (other than needing more of them.) I was looking for a gigabit switch with more ports but could not find one at the Best Buy where I made my purchase.

I highly recommend this Switch. I have added a gigE switch to my Den HomeTheatre stack since I am utilizing 3D content on my Samsung SmartTV which simply is intolerable over wifi ! I also remotely access/run Plex media server on a Mac Mini two rooms over in my dedicated HomeTheatre. I use two RAID arrays...one RAiD5 and the other RAID6 so I do not lose content when my HDDs eventually crash...way too many brown outs in my neighborhood with new Home development affecting overall power line quality as builders use power saws etc nearby. THAT kills drives , even RAID drives. Re the Switch...the 8 ports got consumed Pronto as the DVD, Denon Media center, Plasma TV, DISHNET box and AppleTV boxes ate up 5 right away...now I have a little expansion Room for DirecTV, AT&T Uverse etc over time. Unlike my Apple TimeCapsule and attic switches and cable modem...I have NOT had a glitch in months...nor a reboot required. buy this Box. Very Cool finish out with metalized side banding but I would prefer black versus the white case to better blend in.

I've been half-heartedly trying to get the ethernet cables setup in my house to transmit fast internet to a few ports around the house and tried a few different routers and switcher that have not worked. I finally did a bunch of research figure out how to do it and realized that the routers I had previously purchased were not right for what I was trying to do and tis router did the trick. I also found through the process that several of the ports in my house were setup incorrectly. Once I rewired the connectors correctly and ran them through this switch they worked very well. I have only had one interruption in service since I set up this switch and needed to restart everything to get it to recognize the signal. This is why i gave it 4 instead of 5 stars, but I am not entirely sure if it was the switches fault, the modem or the wifi router that I have setup.

What can I say, it's Netgear

I am a professional network engineer for a living. I usually avoid Netgear products at all costs, because I have never had one work properly for any length of time. I had no choice when I bought this because the local Best Buy was out of competitive brands. My real switch died, and I had to have something immediately because I do remote network support 24/7. I plugged it in and hooked it up. Then I realized that it is not a managed switch. [Meaning that there is no way of manipulating the switch ports via command line or GUI]. SHAME ON ME FOR NOT CHECKING. It worked great for two days and then all the lights stayed solid and it ceased working. I replaced it with an older (slower) switch that I had laying around and everything started working again. I threw it in the Netgear pile with my laptop wireless cards, computer network cards, and NAS device that never worked right either.

I have been very familiar with Netgear products for a number of years and have found them to be reliable and inexpensive. This was no exception to that rule. We are a cord cutting house, but sometimes that just means you are swapping one cord for multiple. In our case, we have an Appletv, Roku, Tivo Roamio, Samsung Tv, and a Tablo in one confined area. In switch terms, i needed at least 6 ports to serve all the boxes (including one port for the Internet feed). This switch performed the task admirably. My only worry was the front panel lights were very bright. After i was sure everything worked, i simply put a piece of tape to cover the lights. If you need this scale of Ethernet switch, you probably won't be making a mistake buying this one from Netgear.

I buy these switches to provide internet \ network connections to all rooms of my house. My house is pre-wired for internet \ network in almost every room with a panel of 10 ethernet ports in the basement. The only challenge is to get the internet from the single out port on the modem to each port in the panel. After connecting the modem to my router, the router has 4 ports left that I can use, so I run from three of them to ports in the panel. I use the 4th port to run to the switch, leaving me 7 ports in the switch to run to the remaining 7 ports in the panel. I use another switch in my home office to connect my desktop computer, two printers, and network back-up drive to the network. These switches are a great value and anyone can hook them up in minutes.

Using this to spread my Uverse T.V. service to the T.V. Boxes, tried other routers but they would all freeze and pixie-late the t.v. when more than 2 t.v.s were on in High Def. even though they were Gigabit routers. This handles all 4 T.V services from Uveres with no problem. as well as having numerous other items going at the same time. Only problem was I gave up trying to make this the main router as in order to do so I could not for the life of me access the routers interface to change DNS settings etc. no matter what I tried. so for now both my Uveres router/gateway and this are doing basically double NAT duty. I am not to concerned about those settings as with the amount of hard wired cables I am running I will be replacing this with a 24 port gigabit router.

I purchased the NETGEAR switch to replace a Linksys 10/100 switch that is of 2006 vintage. We've had exponential growth in the number of connected devices since 2006 and the just Linksys wasn't keeping up. Our ISP is 100 Mb up/down so the GiG-E switch really made a noticeable performance improvement to all of the connected devices, which includes a Win 7 PC, Win 7 laptop, 4 iPhones, 1 iPad, 3 Tivo boxes, an Xbox, and 4 HD Tvs and an HP printer. The install was simple as it was a straight swap with the Linksys. Tinkered with switching the media converter (fiber to twisted pair) to GiG-E as well but that would require a special change order with the ISP and the wouldn't do it. All in all a great upgrade. I've been using the switch for about a month now.

I switched COX modems to the latest one, but it only has two CAT5 ports and I have six (6) devices. The Netgear plugs into one port of the cable modem. I'm not using the other port of the cable modem as it is destined to be used with COX Home Automation devices using a different protocol. The Netgear uses one port to connect to the modem leaving seven (7) other ports to use for my six (6) CAT5 devices. The other consideration is that the cables connect to the rear of the switch while the status LEDs are on the front providing a clean installation.

I redid my network a tad (using Comcast phone/modem vs cable modem as it started going south recently) and it has and is working as I had hoped. Now I am looking at replacing the router since I am still seeing intermittent speed drops (1Gb to 100Mb) or disconnects and only thing left is the DLink DIR-655 router I've had for awhile and at latest DLink firmware for it's model/build. But I had intended on getting one so I can hook up my PS3 hard-wired vs wireless to improve performance when streaming movies/music over my LAN. Simple to set up, and worked fine out of the box after my main desktop reboot (2 desktops, 1 WHS, 1 PS3, 1 Wii and 1 Asus gaming Laptop on my network most days (additional Laptop now and then).

This switch is exactly what I expected it to be: solid. Just like the other Netgear equipment I've used, is completely hassle-free. My whole house was literally wired for gigabit Ethernet in no more time than it took to plug in the cables. I took it out of the box, plugged in the power cord, and plugged in connections (including a router and the patch cables to the rooms in my home), and went about my networking. It's completely idiot-proof, since all 8 ports automatically detect connection speed and uplink/downlink (meaning that no special cables are needed to hook up additional switches or routers). Plus, the indicator lights show which ports are in use, and at what speeds (10Mb, 100Mb, or 1Gb).

Picked this up to put into my entertainment area and running a CAT5 into it from an Actiontec MOCA adapter. Have a Smart TV, AVR, and UHD Blu Ray all taking a wired or wireless connection. Did the MOCA / Switch thing instead of wireless or adding a 2nd Asus wireless routher in an AIMesh setup. Ran a speed test on my laptop wired coming out of the Netgear and was pulling just over 200 Mbs which is what I'm paying for with Charter. Greatly provides flexibility at minimal cost.

What can I say... it does what a switch should do, and it does it very well. I've had mine for nearly a year now, and it's never faltered. I demand a lot from my network (media streaming, file transfers, remote desktop sessions, etc) and it's never given me a problem. Network transfer speeds are very fast (70-80 MBytes/sec). Other reviewers have reported problems, but I've had none. Obviously unless you've got gigabit ports on both ends, you're not going to get gigabit speeds (maxing around 11 MBytes/sec means you're running at 100 megabit speeds). Also, it's always a good idea to have your switch on surge protector, as network equipment tends to be especially sensitive to spikes.

As a network engineer, I should have trusted my instincts and not bought a Netgear. But it looked nice and the price was better that some other brands, so I took a chance. The first disappointment was that I was not really getting Gigabit speeds. even though the switch recognized the gig port on the devices connected I ran a few speed test and was not getting any better performance than my old 10/100 switch. But the true frustration occured this morning when my entire home network was down because this little guy decided to up and die on me. Contacted Netgear support but of course it is over a year old so I am out of luck. Best advice I can give you is avoid netgear at all costs

Bought this devise to connect data cables in multi-media panel. Easy to use. No programming is needed, just power. Plus and Negative is that the power adapter included is designed to plug into the AC power outlet sideways. This is good for space limitations on power strip. It does not work with power outlets in multi-media panel because the cord off adapter does not allow enclosure door to be installed. I needed to purchase an additional short extension cord to plug into outlet and then power adapter. A power adapter with wired plug end would have worked better.

I have too many smart devices in my home beyond what my normal router would allow for - so I had to buy this device to control my extra smart devices. I would try to purchase devices going forward that do not have hubs but that would work directly with the Amazon Echo plus directly (it can control up to 50 devices directly). However, I can't complain about this product - it has provided consistent internet supply to my smart hubs/devices without any issues - well worth the money!

I have used these switches before very successfully so I went with the proven product again. Earlier in time I had picked two up on sale but this time I needed them asap so paid average price for them (they weren't replacing the others but rather I was expanding the number of computers being used online. Little to say except it just works - with iMacs and PC's it was plug and play - no slow down, no issues with any of the connected computers and printers. It did what it is expected to do - allow everything to be connected easily and quickly and then stay connected. So far I continue to be very pleased and have no complaints!

This product works well and fulfilled the expectations for its purchase. However, the old model and unit are still being sold under the updated unit with ability to sit upright and with a more modern look to the unit. The current model pictured on on the website does not match the model I received. However, I needed the item and did not take back to the store. However, I would check box contents before ordering.

Not tech savvy so i will keep it simple. I purchased this gigabit switch to run with my NETGEAR - Universal Wi-Fi Range Extender with Ethernet port and my netgear 1700 nighthawk. I am a gamer so i wanted all my devices to be connected by ethernet port to reduce the lag effect. So far so good this device has performed to my expeectations. I cannot give it a 5 star as i have not test the longevity of the product...only purchased 2 months ago so will post another review if it craps out. :)
