I recently had my home Internet services upgraded to 50 megabit service. I wanted to created wire Internet connections for all of my home theater devices: Playstation3 and 4, DirectTV receiver, Denon Multichannel receiver, Slingbox, etc. in order to take full advantage of all that speed. This switch had plenty of connections and decent reviews so I bought it. It looks am title different than the one in the photo. No setup was required - just plug in the source cable and all the connected devices. Since it is only a switch the ports settings I had previously created for these devices still worked. It did seem to need the router to be power cycled to get things connected, but otherwise there was nothing else required. Of course it's only a switch so it shouldn't have needed anything, but still it was refreshing to buy a networking product that didn't have to have a firmware or software update as soon as it is unboxed.

I originally purchased this swich to install in my AV system since all new AV equipment seems need an Ethernet connection, but I discovered my existing switch was already at thi speed. I wound up using it in my office to replace a 10/100 ethernet switch to improve LAN performance, but I need a few more ports to connect everything.
Installation was as easy as unboxing the unit and its power supply, making the connections with my equipment and applying power. It is currently on my desk but I plan on wall mounting it soon.
I am using all of the ports without issue (other than needing more of them.) I was looking for a gigabit switch with more ports but could not find one at the Best Buy where I made my purchase.

It's a nice small networking switch. The product that they show is not what you get. I attached a picture of how the product actually looks. Had I known it was going to be bulky than the one that's advertised I'd bought the cheaper version.

I just needed a small but fast switch to share my internet connection with our Business system provider so they could build a fail over VPN tunnel outside our firewall in case their primary circuit went down. The switch is small, inexpensive, and able to pass our traffic through to our ISP without any noticeable lag times. I'd recommend it for any application where a small but fast switch is needed from residential to medium business.

This switch is exactly what I expected it to be: solid. Just like the other Netgear equipment I've used, is completely hassle-free. My whole house was literally wired for gigabit Ethernet in no more time than it took to plug in the cables. I took it out of the box, plugged in the power cord, and plugged in connections (including a router and the patch cables to the rooms in my home), and went about my networking. It's completely idiot-proof, since all 8 ports automatically detect connection speed and uplink/downlink (meaning that no special cables are needed to hook up additional switches or routers). Plus, the indicator lights show which ports are in use, and at what speeds (10Mb, 100Mb, or 1Gb).

I am new to the networking thing. Plug and play made my life easier. Cost is great price and having 8 ports allows for more devices to be tied to my network. I would recommend product cause if you take 10 minutes and do the steps in order, you will be happy too.

I replaced my old cheap dynex switch since i upgraded my whole homenetwork to take advantage of hd streaming and the old switcher was no longer cutting it. I was in search of a good and inexpensive switch and lord behold this gigabyte model appeared. What i love about buying from BestBuy is that they also priced match this same switch from a more well known online company. Its fast, easy setup, a good amount of ports for expansion and a very low profile. A great switch for the price and performance with very easy setup.

Bought the Netgear switch to work along side my AirPort Extreme router. I wanted extra ports that could not be supported via my router. The AirPort has only 3 available gigabit ports; I needed more. Just plugged into the router and now have several spare ports for future expansion. I use the switch to connect my iMac, desktop PC, network storage drive, printer, and more. Simple installation, high speed, reliable, fairly priced, and matches the AirPort in white. Could not be happier!

I had been using an old 3com gigabit router that was ~20yrs old and had seen a major tour of duty ending its watch as a living room switch when suddenly everything seemed to be loading on much slower and my Apple TV 4k didn't seem as "crisp" as it once was.
Running some diagnostic software showed what should have been ~900-950mbps (1gb speed) was topping out at 35-40mbps on all my devices. Doing some isolation testing pointed right to my old switch so a new switch was needed.
Expecting the prices of years ago ($100's to even $1000's), I was pleasantly surprised to find this Netgear gigabit switch fit all my criteria at what was an amazingly low price.
A quick swap in for my old switch and viola! Just like that speeds were testing back to their original peak 900-950mbps and everything was right again.
You can't beat the amazingly low price and the fact it worked right out of the box and swapped right into place.
Excellent!
