I bought this Neatgear DSL modem/router to replace a Centurylink C1000A modem/router. The reason for doing so was that the Centurylink router was incompatible with the Intel Centrino Wireless-N wifi adapter used in 2 of my PCs. They could connect, but would frequently drop the connection. Centurylink support would not even discuss that issue.
When trying to install the Netgear device, I got an error stating that no DSL line was attached. This was false, my DSL line was plugged in to the proper receptacle. I called Centurylink support. They told me that my DSL 12mps service came through fiber optic cable and that Netgear modems could not read that signal. The only solution offered was to reduce my service to 7mps, and a technician would have to be scheduled to move my feed to a copper wire network. Then the Neatgear modem would work. I did not like that solution.
I knew that I could turn the wifi radio off in the C1000A, disabling the router. I'd still be using the modem portion. I needed to find out if I could bypass the modem part of the Netgear device - but use the router portion. My first attempt was a chat session on the Netgear support website. After taking the pains to describe what I needed to do, the gal came back with - maybe I needed to go buy a different wire or cable or somethig (and have a nice day) - at which point she terminated the session. Pathetic.
I next called the customer support number that came with the modem. That transported me to a call center (in India I think). I concisely stated that I wanted to use my Netgear device as a router only, and explained why. The support person completely ignored my request. He insisted first in guiding me through the process of registering the device. I told him I didn't want to, because I'd have to return it if we couldn't get it to operate as a router only. He said not to worry about that and made it clear that we were going to register the unit before proceeding further. After device registration, he walked my through trying to use it as a modem - numerous times - and of course we kept getting that error msg about no DSL wire attached. He then told me I'd have to take the modem back and get a replacement, because maybe the DSL wire jack on the modem was bad. I absolutely refused, and told him that we had just repeatedly demonstrated what the Centurylink tech had told me - that his Netgear modem could not translate the DSL signal over fiber optic. He went off to see a supervisor. Coming back, he said OK, we would set up the device as a router only, taking the signal in from the Centurylink modem. Finally! We had wasted more than than an hour to get to what I had requested in the first 2 minutes of the call! It only took several minutes to get that done. So objective accomplished. But the call took 1 hour and 15 minutes - it should have taken less than 10 minutes (even with registering the device).
It took me longer than it should have to pair up my equipment to the new router because the WPS button did not seem to work. I had to set up each device manually. After all was done, I discovered that it does in fact work, but you have to press and hold it for several seconds before releasing it. The manual simply said to press and release the button (which is how it generally works on other routers). Likewise the Wifi on/off button has to be pressed and held for a few seconds before releasing it - also not adequately explained in documentation.
I basically ended up with what I'd hoped to achieve - those two PCs now hold their wifi connection with the network. But it had taken about 6 miserable hours to get there. And I still have to run 2 devices (a modem and a router) since one function cannot be handled properly be either modem/router device.
I should probably return this Netgear DSL modem router and buy the simpler Netgear stand alone router, which would save me about $40. However the wifi network is all up and working well, and I've got better things to do with my time for the next several days. So I'll defer that decision.
The 3 star rating balances "mission accomplished" vs inefficient technical support and the inability of the modem to handle my Centurylink DSL signal. I think it is more than fair.

I purchased this router due to its ease in setup. Unfortunately, these routers are not durable and do not last. This is my 4th one in 3 years, and this time I purchased the 2 year extended warranty so that Best Buy can help absorb the cost of the next one. A product should outlast the packaging that it came in.

Works great has its own software and imulates for Mac and windows to use iPad and phone to print pages from net. The dual band is handy as can keep family on 2.4Ghz and use 5Ghz carrier for personal devices. Limited only by providers line speed not user devices overall very happy with wireless hub.

I had to replace my ATT DSL Router and found this one in the store. The price was reasonable so I decided to give it a try. Set up was a snap an I was up and surfing the web in no time. If it holds up I would consider giving it five stars

Bought this to replace a leased (why does anybody lease them anyway?) modem/router combo that kept causing grief. And the heartache of dropped internet has gone away! Easy setup, decent range (although I had hoped for a little better), and excellent speed made this a good choice.
I haven't decided how fond I am of the Genie app. It's very easy to navigate,so I can't knock it. So far I haven't found anything missing that I need, but I get the impression that at some point that will be the case, hence the indecision...
I did set up a network printer via usb on the router. Initial setup was simple, but since then I get error messages when attempting to print to that particular printer. I haven't had a chance to explore the issue, but I suspect that it lies somewhere in the sharing software required for network use.
All in all a nice modem.

The DSL modem router exceeded my expectations. I was able to install the device without assistance. It was extremely easy to connect to the existing DSL line and get online. The telco provided DSL modem router was more expensive but of lesser quality compared to this device. The telco device did not last one year. I expect that this will exceed that.

This router works great and saves us from renting a modem and router from the cable company. We had to exchange our first one because it was dsl only and we needed a cable hookup, but once we got the right one it was great. Has a decent range, too. We often have two laptops, two phones and an Xbox hooked up to it and have not had any lagging problems.

Overall I was pleased with the range provided. Solved our connection issues. Was much faster than our previous setup. The biggest negative for me was the fact that you can't simply set rules for parental controls without having to set up an open Dns. Our previous router made it much easier. On it we could select the I device and the times we wanted and it was done.
