The best ac router to buy!

I have owned three Netgear routers over the last several years. The WNDR4500, the R6250, and now the R7000. They have all come from Best Buy. The 4500 was a n speed router that was good but quit before its time. I traded it in for the 6250 and it is a great ac speed router. I got a very good deal at Best Buy on the 7000 that I could not turn down. I gave the 6250 to my nephew. The 7000 is just fantastic. I have had no problems with it and of course it is extremely fast. I have 10 wired devices running from it plus one wireless ac device. I plan to add two more wireless devices in the near future. Everything works just fine. Everything from the simple pc use to Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, Hulu desktop, and You Tube 720p and 1080p video. The audio is great also. If you choose the R7000 you will be pleased as I am with its performance.

Setup was very easy and fast. The range of coverage is 100% in my entire home which is 2800 sq ft and 3 floors even though it is situated in the back far corner of the 2nd floor. I have on average more than 12 devices (computers, laptdops, tablets, phones and TV) connected at one, and there's never been a problem with performance. It solved the problem with the iPhones constantly dropping off on my older router - those dang iPhones are a pain with most routers, but not this one! There are a lot of advanced features which I've taken advantage of to fine tune performance for gaming and downloading. I also like and use the family security feature via OpenDNS.

The Router To BUY

Had a not so old router that I thought was great, but with added wireless devices in my home, all my family did was drop connection, it was frustrating. At least till I purchased this router. I went to Best Buy was greeted by a helpful employee who kept me from making another bad decision in buying too small of a router and too slow of a router. He directed me the NetGear, he did tell me I could probably get by with the step down from this model, but told me he had this Netgear himself and had no problems or complaints. This one rocks. I run 2 smart TVs, 6 cell phones, 5 tablets, 4 laptops, an Xbox one, and that is just a normal, not to mention when company comes over and adds more wireless devices. This thing handles them all at once, I know, I have tested to the max

Our old router barely allowed things to connect to the internet from the back of our house. This one has a very strong signal and a much longer range. Set up was very easy.

NETGEAR Nighthawk router has excellent performance. Both bands have high-speed and cover large area - no issues with wireless device being to far away from the router. I most definately recommend this product to others.

Not quite sure if this is ideal for people without netflix and only use it for email. You have to have at least a good internet speed from your ISP. It is a little big and ugly but does the job better than any router I've ever used..

Wow this router is truly a thing of beauty. It was a bit spendy, but I was sick of dropping wifi signal with my previous router. This router is fantastic and I would recommend it to anyone. The speed has kept superior and I am getting wifi signal in places of my house that I never used to get before! I haven't had any lag skips since purchase and am absolutely thrilled with this router. I would highly recommend this product if you don't mind forking out a little more dough for performance!

Pros: Fast, good range, easy setup, USB 3.0 port, looks decent.
Cons: Expensive and can be had for less than full retail if you shop patiently.
If you don't mind USB 2 port, Costco version (AC 1750) is a better deal when marked down.

Bought this new router to replace a netgear router we have had for about 7 years. We run 10 or so devices over the WiFi and this has worked great. We would have to stop using wifi when we watched Netflix but have had no problem with the new router. Also had to use a wifi extender with old device but this one covers our whole house all 3 floors. Also like the router has a 5g band and a guest partition so you don't have to share password with visitors. Netgear make great products this is my 3rd in the last 20 years and have only replaced due to technology moving forward. The software is easy to use and allows you to monitor how many devices are using your network. Only negative is it takes up about 2 ft of counter space.

I was planning to upgrade my router for a long time because it kept locking up. I finally decided to buy the Nighthawk after reading all the great reviews. I'm so glad I took the plunge, it was the best decision I've made in a long time and worth every penny. I have a fairly large, odd shaped house that always required a router extender to reach all parts of the house. This router does it with power to spare and reach the yard as well. Fantastic streaming with no pixilation anymore. Kudos!!!.

setup for this router was much easier than i thought it would be. once i had all the wires attached correctly it worked fine. i did make a mistake in the order in which i turned everything on and that is critical. you must follow the instructions step-by-step for the wireless signal to function correctly. once i found my mistake and reset my cable modem, the netgear router worked and has been working with no problem. i have a two story 2400 sq.ft. brick house and the wi-fi signal works everywhere. i am very happy with this unit. i must say, however, that my wife and i are not "gamers" or "streaming movie" types and only use the internet for basic stuff. i do not know how this unit functions as to movies or other more complex "internet" stuff.

I got this router to replace a Linksys router whose parental control features would not work reliably.
This router has great range and throughput. Setup was easy and the Genie smartphone/tablet app is much more usefull than what Linksys offered.
My only issue I had with this router was connecting a 4TB Segate USB3 drive. I could no longer access the drive after a few days. I checked support forums and saw a few others with the same issue. Rebooting the router would allow it to work for another few days, but then it would repeat. The web admin interface would also hang when trying to admin the USB storage functions.
One forum post suggested reformatting the external hard drive with a Linux ext3 file system. That did the trick. The drive has been working for the last three weeks without issue.

This router is compatible with an AT&T modem. No problem with connections as it's virtually plug and play. A nice feature is the ability to separate various Wi-Fi channels and to set the signal strength. You can turn on or off your guest network as needed independent of your main Wi-Fi service. There also is no problem with a hard-wired desktop to your modem while the router handles your Wi-Fi traffic. Range is excellent and so far there has been no reduction in performance with multiple (4 plus) devices drawing Wi-Fi service. Settings are handled via the website, which can be a little tricky to navigate so take your time. All in all a solid performer so far.

I was having trouble with my old router (Cheap one) and purchased this one. I was surprised of how fast it made my connections. I went from 90 Mbps to 187 Mbps wired and almost 40 Mbps thru out the house on Wifi. I pay for 150 Mbps. Easy to set up especially if you use same password and network name so everything hooks back up automatically. I have a single story house but wifi speed is pretty much the same everywhere in house including my garage in the backyard ( 50 ft away). Highly recommend this router.

Quick and easy to configure. Dramatically improved my coverage area compared to my old N router, eliminating the need for my range extender. Easily handles all of our streaming video needs on numerous devices.

The router that my Internet provider installed is ok, but not capable of giving reliable signal in the basement, the first floor and upstairs in the house. A second router under a hundred bucks almost did the job, but not until I went with the Nighthawk could I get all systems running at decent speeds. With the Nighthawk, my wife could finally run iPad Air videos to the Apple TV connected to an HD tv in the living room, while the router is upstairs in the Dad playroom. And while the basement signal is not super fast, its plenty good enough for back up use. I would buy this and not bother with so-called boosters (none I have tried did very much) or lesser routers that cost less but do not have the umph needed.
