This thing is GREAT!... Except battery life.

I friggin love everything about the NEW 2DS XL except the battery life. My old 3DS XL lasted for what seemed a lot longer, and my DSi XL seemed to last forever by comparison to that. The screen is A LOT crisper than the 3DS, I never liked to blur effect I got even when in full 2D. Yes you do lose some of the novelty without 3D but that's all that really was anyway, a novelty. Of course, the build quality is right up there, because Nintendo. After getting a cheap case with a decent grip it fits my hands really well. The 2DS XL is, imho, the quintessential current gen handheld.

I have only one complaint. The speakers are worse than the original new 3ds xl. The speakers on this new 2ds xl can be blocked by your hands while holding the unit, while the new 3ds xl’s speakers are on the top screen. Battery seems to be better and the unit is a lot thinner and lighter.

I bought my 3DS when it first launched back in 2011 and held off on upgrading until now. This is a pretty fantastic upgrade over the original model -- it sports a faster processor, a second mini circle pad (super handy for controlling the camera in games like Monster Hunter), a much slicker design, and, of course, a larger screen. I've had zero issues with it so far, and all of the buttons, sticks, etc. feel fantastic. The screen also seems more vibrant and colorful than my original 3DS, though it doesn't appear to be an IPS screen. (Disappointing, but not super surprising.) All of my games also load much faster than they did on the original model. It does lack the 3D feature of the other models, so if that's something you care about you'll want to look into buying the New 3DS XL instead. I never played games in 3D so it's no loss for me. The 3DS has a massive collection of fantastic games at super affordable prices, so now's a great time to buy one of these. Highly recommended.

Well guys, this is it. After nearly 28 years since the original Game Boy, Nintendo has (presumably) released its final hurrah. With the advent of the Switch, there's no longer a reason to keep Nintendo handhelds and consoles separate from one another. With that said, if you snoozed on most of the entire DS's life cycle from Day 1, this is a MUST purchase. This is the time to clear your backlog of DS games you were always interested in but never made time for. The 2DS XL opens a door to hundreds of games and is compatible with all DS games, regardless of generation. It's a sleek, pretty little piece of hardware, and the screens are huge. Overall, it just feels good in your hands. Battery life is great. Granted, there may not be a reason to upgrade if you already have a 3DS XL, but for someone like me who was never interested in (and on the contrary, averse to) 3D gameplay, this thing is a no-brainer. Pick one up now so you can play Metroid: Samus Returns in September! Personally, I have some Castlevanias to play... For more video game previews and reviews, check out 2v1 Podcast on iTunes!

Bought as a gift for my child. I currently own the New Nintendo 3DS. My child would play in it a few times, and always with 3D off. The New Nintendo 2DS has all of the same technologies for processing and features as the 3D counterpart, except for the 3D parallax screen. Ironically it still features a 3D camera. That means it plays exactly like the New Nintendo 3DS with 3D slider to off. Same great controls, but actually better. The 4 triggers are now larger and more comfortable to reach for either big or small hands. Same great library of Nintendo DS and 3DS games play in the console without issues. Also the great Virtual Console of upscaled NES, SNES, and Game Boy games is accessible from eShop. Console is actually a bit smaller and lighter than the 3DS. Build quality is also on par. Battery life also seems to be on par for my child's play time, only needing to charge once or twice a week. It already includes a 4gb micro sd card for save data and eShop game downloads; this time card is easily accessible from front covered slot next to cartridge slot, making it safe and convenient to remove. Also includes the charger, which is compatible to all other 3DS consoles.

My wife had the old 3dsXL and the hinge broke after some years of repeated opening and closing. She didn't use the 3d very much so she just wanted a 2ds and she loves it. A lot of the design has been improved and she has very few complaints aside from the stylus being smaller.

Recently purchased two of these, there are a ton of great games available. Wanted the larger screen but didn’t care for the 3D feature. Could only be better if it included a game like its cheaper counterpart.

Bought this for my youngest son. We have bought the 3ds xl for the oldest last year and I have to say really like the 2ds xl. If you don't care about 3d then for the price I would pick this up.

Very good upgrade to an already excellent system. Lighter and more responsive than previous models without the unnecessary use of 3D. One of the best DS systems Nintendo has released.

The original 2DS was so radically different from the 3DS it's almost kind of odd. This unit is not just a non 3D 3DS. It's actually a very different light weight design. It looks like a 3DS, but it's more comfortable. For those who don't like the 3D or want a lighter version this is perfect. Comes with a charger as well.

This is so worth it. The only difference from the 3ds xl is the 3ds effect. No one actually plays with it on so it was worth it for the cheaper price!
