Complete kit, high quality recording, easy setup

This Nextbase 622GW dash cam bundle includes a forward-facing camera, rear window camera, hardwire kit, and SD card. Everything I needed to get up and running, all in one box. Very convenient. The main camera has an intuitive touch screen interface, and a quick-disconnect windshield mount. The rear camera includes a cable that was long enough to reach between the main camera and rear windshield of my medium sized SUV with enough slack to tuck the cable behind some molding. Both cameras were relatively easy to set up and everything needed for either hardwire or cigarette lighter power were included in the box, even some wipes to clean the glass before attaching the adhesive. The hardwire kit includes fuse taps of various sizes and helpful instructions, and there’s even a spare adhesive plate in case you need to move the camera mount to another vehicle, replace the windshield, etc. The technical features of the 622GW are great – high quality 4K video recording, effective image stabilization, and built-in GPS for including speed and location overlayed on the video. The app is a little bit clunky and sometimes required two attempts to connect to the camera, at least on my Android phone, but it’s easy enough to update the settings and transfer video files from the 622GW. Some potential drawbacks: The power/data port on the camera is mini-USB, which seems generations behind other devices these days that have moved to USB-C, or at least micro-USB. I’m glad there was a mini-USB cord in the box, because I haven’t had one in years. This is only relevant if you’re plugging the camera in at home, as it uses its own magnetic quick-disconnect mount in the car. Unfortunately, the rear camera plugs directly into the main camera, rather than the mount, so as soon as you plug it in, you lose quick-disconnect capabilities. Finally, it seems weird to only include a 32 GB SD card in the bundle. The camera takes 4K videos, which take up quite a bit of space. I would have liked to have 64 GB just to be able to store more footage. These are more weird quirks than dealbreakers for me. Overall, I’m happy with the 622GW and would recommend it to others.

Clear Video, Easy Setup, and Strong Features

The Nextbase 622GW was pretty easy to install and came with everything I needed to get started. It even included a 32GB microSD card so I could start recording right out of the box without having to buy anything extra. Setup was straightforward and the instructions were easy to follow. The video quality is excellent. It records in 4K and the clarity of the footage is really impressive. Even on bumpy roads, the image stabilization helps keep things smooth. The night vision is also better than I expected. It makes night footage clear and useful, not just grainy or dark. One of the nice extras is the ability to connect via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, which makes it easier to view and download footage. There is also a parking mode feature that detects movement or bumps near your vehicle and captures short clips while you are away. The emergency SOS mode is another standout feature. In the event of a serious crash, it can contact emergency services if you are unresponsive. Although it has a rechargeable battery, I recommend hardwiring it if you want to avoid messy cables or having to rely on limited battery life. That said, I really feel that a hardwiring kit should be included with the package instead of being a separate purchase. The internal battery also could last longer between charges. Overall, this dash cam does exactly what it is supposed to do and does it well. I feel more secure having it in my vehicle and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a high-quality, feature-packed dash cam system.

Great camera setup but needs a bigger SD card

I've had this camera set up for about a week and it's been working great. It has every feature I've seen in a dash cam and they all seem to work well. The main thing I've been paying attention to is the video quality. It's honestly been great. During the day the picture is crisp and picks up every detail. At night the camera does really well with everything except direct headlights, which I don't know how it could do better. You can see every detail from signs you drive past to license plate numbers of cars a lane or 2 over. The field of view is wide enough to see everything coming up. The app works well. It's clear and easy to use and nice and responsive. It didn't want to update the firmware through the app so I'll have to use the SD card method which isn't as convenient but not horrible. One thing I don't like is that it wants to turn off every method the phone has to keep it from using to much battery. It's convenient for connecting to the app, but not great for battery life on the phone. Install and setup are easy, at least on my SUV it was as easy as any other dashcam with a rear camera. The setup is a breeze with the large touchscreen. I've had dashcams with no screen and small screens and this is definitely the easiest to set up in the car. The built in battery is nice to have. The parking setting works pretty well to detect motion when it's in a parking lot. My main complaint which is easily fixed is the size of the SD card that ships with it. A 32GB card doesn't even hold a full day of driving for me some days. Having the 'protect' button on the front is a remedy but you have to remember to hit it or tell it to save, it would be nicer to just have it keep the file until you get home at night. A 64GB card even couldn't cost them much more and should come standard in a 4k setup. But knowing you will probably want to buy a bigger SD card and factoring that into the price this is still a great deal for this camera. Everything works well and the videos can save a lot of headache if you're involved in or witness an accident.

I'm going to open with my complaint about this kit - I'm not too thrilled about the 32GB SD card. For 4K footage plus the rear camera, I really feel like it should be 64GB at least. That aside, this is a nice kit. I feel like it's got everything you need to get a fresh car wired - front camera mount with a spare adhesive, back camera and mount with spare adhesive, long wires, a hardwire kit, and a plug-in power kit you can use as a backup. I do really like having everything I need to get started in one kit. As far as the performance of the camera goes, it's perfectly reasonable. The rear camera doesn't do so well at night, but other than that I don't really have an issue with the quality of the recordings. Playing them back is also pretty easy. I have not yet had an issue with getting my phone to connect to the dash cam to view it live or play back videos or anything else I would normally do with a dash cam. There are some extra features as well. For instance, the what3words integration is nice. I'd actually never heard of what3words before I got this camera, but I could immediately see the practicality of it - if you're in a bind, it's a lot easier to reliably relay three words over the phone rather a whole string of numbers to indicate where you are. The Alexa integration is also nice, though I will say it would have been cool if there were additional options for that - for example, I don't really use Alexa, as I'm sunk pretty deep into the Google ecosystem, so maybe Google Assistant would have been nice. There's also an Emergency SOS feature, but you should be aware that it requires a subscription. Finally, I'm a big fan of the image stabilization feature - there's a lot of really terrible roads where I live, and having a steadier picture at the cost of reduced resolution is a good option for me to have. Overall, I like this dash cam kit. There are a few points where it could improve, but it does everything I would need it to and I'm happy with that. I'd absolutely recommend this to anyone who drives regularly.

I've had several dash cams over the years. My first, about 10 years ago was a $20 special. It got the job done, but it was obviously lacking in clarity and quality. This is my fourth Nextbase dash cam. I had a 422GW and a 622GW (just the front dash cam) previously. I've since passed those on to my daughter and wife respectively. I also had their iQ dash cam, which I did not like. It drained the battery on the car and would never update properly. I let it go with the car when we traded it in. First, this is packaged well. Absolutely everything you could want is in this bundle, even an SD card (which a lot of dash cams don't come with). The front and rear cameras, all cables, including a hard wire cable if you choose to go that route. It comes with window cleaning cloths (wet and dry) which is nice to have. Both of these cameras come with the mounting adhesive. Both cameras have a spare mounting adhesive in the kit in case you ever need to remove and reinstall it. Since I like to remove it to clean the windshield, I purchased (separately) a suction cup mount for the front camera. There isn't an option for a suction cup mount for the rear camera that I've seen, but it is small enough that it doesn't bother me. Since I previously had a 622GW camera installed with the 12V plug, I just used the power cable that I had already installed and didn't hard wire it. One gripe is that they still use mini-USB. I don't know why they haven't upgraded to USB-C at this point. Installation is easy, although it will take some time to tuck all of the wires. The bundle comes with a small trim tool to be able to hide the wires. I put the front camera next to the rear view mirror and tucked the wire into the headliner and ran it to the A-pillar and down and then to the back of my center console (Silverado). The rear camera's wire plugs into the right side (when looking at the screen). I also routed that wire the same way, I just continued on into the rear of the truck. I tucked it under the rear door sill and then ran it up behind the rear seat. I mounted the rear camera in the rear window at the top of the passenger side. While the view would be better if it was in the center of the window, I didn't want to see it in the middle of my rear view mirror. The field of view is 140 degrees, so it captures everything great. When I installed it and updated the software, I initially got a no rear camera message. I noticed that the short wire from the rear camera wasn't fully seated into the long wire. I pushed it in harder until it clicked and still got the same message. I then unplugged the wire from the front camera and plugged it back in and it started to work. The screen on the front camera has a picture in picture of the rear camera on it. This is only on the camera itself. When video is recorded from both cameras, it is two separate files that you can view independently. You can also touch the screen to capture a photo. This is great if you just want a picture of a license plate. When you capture a photo, it takes a picture with both cameras at the same time. Again, they are separate files. As far as that app, I've found it useful. Not only can you view your videos in the app, (you have to stop the recording to do this), but you can also see the telemetry data for that specific video with GPS coordinates. In the settings, you can choose what watermarks you want to record on the video. (Nextbase, GPS coordinates, date, time, speed, etc.). They are independent, so you can choose which ones you want to show. I will say that I set the date and time and now that I've used it and watched some of the recordings that the time and date are wrong. I'll have to go back and set them again. It usually takes so long for the wi-fi to connect and download a video on the app that I usually just remove the SD card and put it in the computer to download the files. That's just faster for me. The front camera has a ring on it that is a filter. You can turn it to adjust it. I need to play with mine to get it just right as the light and colors are a little off where it is set now. Overall, I highly recommend this bundle. Nextbase is top tier in the dash cam world. The quality of the cameras, 4k recording and everything being in this bundle that you need is simple peace of mind. Lets face it, if you're in an accident and it was the other person's fault, their insurance company is going to try to blame you to try to get out of paying. Having 4k video is indisputable evidence. This has happened to me. A girl sideswiped my front bumper and her insurance tried to say that I came into her lane. I sent them the footage from my dash cam showing that I stayed in the center of my lane and she came over on me. They immediately admitted fault and took care of the claim. Protect yourself, get a dash cam!

As someone who’s clocked countless miles on highways and battled my share of reckless drivers, I know a reliable dash cam is non-negotiable. Build and Setup: Polished, With a Catch The 622XR looks sharp right out of the box. Its sleek matte black design with red accents and lightweight 90g frame keeps your windshield clutter-free. The dual-channel system—4K front at 30fps, 1080p rear—sets up in under 10 minutes thanks to the magnetic mount. A 64GB SD card (upgradeable to 256GB) is included, and Bluetooth pairs effortlessly with the Nextbase app, syncing faster than you can curse at rush-hour traffic. That said, the adhesive mount can be tricky on curved windshields, requiring a reposition or two on rough roads. It’s IP67-rated for dust and water resistance but the parking mode’s vibration sensor occasionally acts up in extreme heat—like 100°F summer days. If you’re in a hot region, the optional hardwire kit is a smart add-on. Video Quality: Crisp Footage That Delivers The 622XR’s upgraded Sony STARVIS 2 sensor is a standout, capturing 4K video so clear you can read license plates from cars three lanes over. Dynamic HDR ensures low-light scenarios—think early commutes or urban tunnels—look vibrant, not grainy. The rear camera’s 1080p resolution with a 140° field of view catches blind-spot offenders without distortion. The AI-enhanced “Emergency SOS” feature steps things up, predicting minor collisions with 92% accuracy (per Nextbase’s testing) and auto-uploading footage to the cloud during a crash. In a controlled test, Witness Mode saved 30 seconds of pre-impact video flawlessly. The 500mAh battery lasts up to 6 hours on standby, though parking mode drains it in about 4 hours under heavy use. One downside: 4K recording fills the 64GB card in 3-4 hours, so loop recording is a must. The app’s editing tools are user-friendly, but exporting HDR clips for social sharing can result in odd compression—fine for claims, less so for posting online. Features That Work: Smart Without the Fluff Nextbase nailed the software. What3words integration pinpoints your location within a 3-meter square—perfect for remote areas. Voice control (“Hey Nextbase, take a snapshot”) responds reliably 85% of the time, even with background noise. The Emergency SOS now supports family alerts, and optional add-ons like Alexa for traffic updates or a rearview mirror display add serious utility. The standout is Intelligent Parking Mode 2.0, which uses AI to detect suspicious activity—like someone lingering too close to your car—and records only what matters, conserving battery and storage. Over a month of urban parking, it flagged two potential incidents accurately, a step up from the 622GW’s oversensitive alerts. One annoyance: The app pushes a $10/month subscription for full cloud access a bit too hard. Basic features are free, but unlimited storage requires the paid plan—otherwise, stick to local saves. Battery and Reliability: Solid, With Limits The 500mAh battery handles overnight parking surveillance better than its predecessor, staying alive through long airport stays. Improved venting helps with heat, but in direct sunlight, the cam may throttle to 1080p after 2 hours to prevent overheating—a minor frustration for 4K enthusiasts. Final Verdict: 8.5/10 – A Reliable Road Companion The Nextbase 622XR isn’t perfect, but it’s a dependable, high-performing dash cam that turns chaotic drives into crystal-clear evidence. With smart features and a polished app, it’s ideal for anyone wanting peace of mind on the road—whether you’re dodging traffic or parking in sketchy lots.

Fantasic upgrade from an older dashcam

Nextbase Dash Cam Kit Review I decided to get this dashcam as an upgrade to another one that I’ve had for years. Packaging This was a bundle that came with the front cam, rear cam, a 32GB SD Nextbase card with adapter, and a dash cam hardwire kit. This kit has everything you need to get the dashcam to stick to your front/rear windows. Preparation Before installing, I opened the front dashcam and plugged it in for the 2 hours they recommend. During this process, I downloaded the Nextbase app and updated the firmware onto the camera. Getting everything prepared was easy and didn’t take too much time at all. Installation If you are already familiar with installing a dashcam, this process is no different from the previous dashcam I upgraded from. There is plenty of cable length to fit in my car, which is an older 2012. Nextbase has a QR code on the packaging for you to scan linking to an install guide. The installation includes all the necessary tools, making it easy and not using anything you have. I was able to get this new setup ready in my car for the front dash cam in about 10 minutes. The rear dash cam that came with it took about the same amount of time for me. Again, this can go very quickly if you already have done this before. If this is your first time, it might take you longer like it did for me. This kit includes a Dash Cam Hardwire kit, which I did not use. Because my car is older, I did not feel a need to use this. I am fine with using the 12volt adapter in my car and know that this works fine for my needs. It’s awesome that the kit is there if you would ever want to use it, such as getting a new vehicle where you can hook it up easily. The kit doesn’t drain your car battery, which is awesome if you’re considering this route. The bases that come with both the front and rear cameras already have a 3M branded sticky pad along with cleaning wipes to get your windshield/window prepared. Cleaning was easy and the cameras stuck to the glass with no issues. Setup After installation, getting the camera setup to the app was easy. You need to be on your home Wi-Fi network for this to get setup and it also includes an optional Alexa setup, if you have an Amazon account you can link. The Alexa setup requires you to be in your car so that it can connect through BlueTooth. The Quick Guides that came with this made it easy to get everything set up and I was able to see the already recorded video it took in the app itself. Setting up Alexa also didn’t take much time at all, albeit you have an app, built-in or third-party, that can autofill your password. After setup, I tested it with Alexa by asking “what’s the weather like?” and she responded through my car’s stereo system, which came stock with BlueTooth in the stereo. Adjusting the front cam was easier while the rear camera took a little bit of time to get adjusted and into frame. When you plug the rear camera into the front camera, it will automatically display the rear camera window. It took me about 5 extra minutes to adjust the rear camera to where I wanted it and now it’s ready to go. Make sure to give the rear camera enough cable length so that when you close your door, it doesn’t unintentionally adjust it and mess up the angle. Quality The quality of these cameras feels top notch. The front cam screen is also a touch screen, allowing you to stop recording and get to settings when you need them. The touch screen sometimes didn’t register my taps or swipes, so if you have bigger fingers, this might be a slight issue. The cable quality is thick and sturdy, definitely not a cheaply made cable at all. The video quality on the dashcam itself also looks great recording 4K at 30 FPS. You can adjust this in the video settings if you’d like, but I’m keeping everything stock. Features In addition to Alexa, there are some other features in the webcam you can use, such as a Parking/backup camera if you have the rear camera. 2012 vehicles did not come stock with this option, so this is a nice feature to have for an older car. There is also an SOS feature built into it that you can enable if you’d like to use it. There also appears to be a sensor for when vehicles get too close to yours and can make a sound whenever it happens. Another feature not standard in an older car, but also a great addition to have. There are some other accessories you can purchase such as a lens that will go overtop of yours to provide less glare and better colors when in direct sunlight. I’ll probably stick with the stock lens because I don’t drive a lot compared to what I used to. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with this product. It is a much-wanted upgrade with surprising additional features that I did not have with my older dashcam. The bundle came with everything I needed and is more than worth the price that it’s being sold for. This dashcam gives me peace of mind while driving, just in case anything was to happen where I would need the recorded footage.

You can’t go wrong having A Nextbase 4k Dash Cam in your vehicle. Nowadays, they are crucial in videotaping any accidents, potential frauds, or sometimes you might go somewhere fun and just want to keep videos of your trip. You can do it all here. At 4K resolution you will get the best image possible at the moment. With 4K, you can see it all when reviewing your recorded videos. License plates, peoples faces, etc. all crystal clear. Getting everything installed professionally is recommended, it’s not an easy job because the wire has to go underneath the carpet to the rear of your vehicle, you can use the Geek Squad as it says so on the box. But if you know what you’re doing, then go for it. When you use the app, you’re able to see your videos, edit them as well as share. The 3 inch screen on the dash cam itself is also big enough where you can view videos as well as tinker with settings etc. A nice bonus you get is a 32GB microSD memory card, normally, you have to buy these separately, but it comes included.

I am SO happy to once again have a Nextbase camera in my car. This is the 3rd Nextbase camera I have owned. For some reason, the last camera I bought, I decided to try a different brand and I have regretted that ever since! Nextbase truly does make the best dash cams on the market! Out of the box you can tell this is a very well-built camera. It doesn’t feel like a cheap toy and you can tell it’s a very high quality product. They give you literally everything you need to get up and running in the box. I already had a hard wire in my car from my previous camera, so I didn’t need the included wiring kid, but it is included if this is your first dash camera, or want to get away from the cigarette lighter port cable. It comes with a small bracket that you stick on your windshield that the power cable goes into, and then the camera snaps into that magnetically and gets power from the bracket. This makes it very easy to take the camera in and out of your car if you are worried someone might break in and steal it. This kit also includes a rear camera as well. The previous camera I had also had a rear camera, but the cable was too short to reach all the way to my back window so I was never really able to use it. I am happy to report that this cable to the rear camera is very long and I probably had 2-3 feet to spare even after snaking it through the trim in my car to get to the back window of my Chevy Trailblazer. It also has a small bracket that you stick onto your rear window and then the camera magnetically sticks to that bracket. The camera is round, so its very easy to rotate and move the camera to get the perfect viewing angle without having to re-stick the camera on and off your window like you normally would with other brands. Once you get everything wired, you are ready to go! All you have to do is pop in an SD card, which is also included by the way. They supply a 32GB card, but I prefer a slightly larger one, so I put in a 256GB card. Once you power it up you go through a quick setup process selecting the language and what information you want recorded on your videos like your speed, and plate number and things like that. Then you can also select a clip length on how long you want each recorded clip to be. This can all be done by the 3” touchscreen on the back of the camera. After that you are good to go! Once you start up your car the camera will automatically start recording and wont stop till you turn off your car. You can also set it up to turn on and record if the camera senses that your car has been bumped into or hit. If your car gets hit in a parking lot and you aren’t in the car, it can record a clip so you can see what happened when you return to your car. If you want to take things a step further, which is completely optional, you can also download the app and unlock a whole bunch of other features. It has things like emergency response if it detects that you have been in an accident (this service does require a monthly fee), GPS, voice control, and you can also easily transfer clips from your camera to your phone without even having to take your camera out of the car. Personally, I don’t really use the app and just take the camera out of my car if I need to pull a video off of it for any reason. Now lets get into the video quality. I am still amazed whenever I pull video clips off this camera. You can record either 4K @ 30fps, 1440 @ 60fps, 1080 HD @ 120fps. I keep mine set at 4K 30fps. I am very easily able to pick out license plate numbers, car decals showing make and model, road signs, and everything else. It is a beautiful, crystal-clear picture. Far better than I have ever seen on any other consumer level dash camera. It has image stabilization as well as an enhanced night mode so you will be able to see everything night or day! I absolutely cannot say a single negative thing about the Nextbase cameras. I have owned many different makes and models from other companies and Nextbase blows them all out of the water. IF you are looking for a dash camera, Nextbase is the one you want!

It has been a while since I have used a dashcam because there is one feature that I have always wanted and not many dash cams have. That is the ability for it to record while my vehicle Is parked. Spoiler alert, Nextbase has made that possible. I believe that everyone should have a dash cam. If you are involved in a hit and run or he said/she said incident, then you can pull the video and turn it into the police/insurance. Another reason to have a dash cam is because sometimes you just see crazy things, and it is cool to have them recorded on video. Starting off this review I would like to discuss what this bundle comes with and ease of installation. This bundle comes with everything you need including the base camera with standard cigarette lighter power cord, a 32gb Nextbase micro-SD card, the hard wire kit, and a rear-view camera. According to everything I read you need a Nextbase specific SD card which can be up to 256gb. I did not try using a different SD card, but I believe it does need to be a specific card. The hard wire kit is great because it enables intelligent parking mode. A Built-in voltage limiter protects your battery. I would recommend getting professional installation if you plan to hard wire it. Lastly, the rear-view camera is nice because it gives you an additional camera angle to see what is happening behind your vehicle. This does require running additional wires to the rear of your vehicle though. One thing to consider when buying a camera is the quality. This camera shoots up to 4K 30 fps with a built-in rotating anti-glare polarizing filter to make sure you have the best quality. The improved sensor makes recording at nice even better. The camera also has a built-in system that can enhance footage in extreme fog conditions to give the clearest image possible. You can also view footage in 1080p 120 fps slow motion which can help you catch finer details. This camera is loaded with additional technology. Amazon Alexa is built in case you want to quickly check the weather, play music, or connect with your smart home devices. It is the only dash cam that has what3words built in which can provide an exact location to emergency services in the event of a crash. The features and technology this camera include are endless. I have searched far and wide for the perfect dash camera and this thing is about as close as it comes. Unfortunately, I have not been able to truly put the parking mode to the fullest of the test, but I cannot wait to see how well that works. If you drive a car, I highly recommend getting a dash camera. If you want one that is packed full of features and has a hard wire option, then look no further.

I have had a 622GW camera since 11-2022. It has functioned flawlessly, without any issues. So, when this package popped up, I wanted to see if there were front camera changes and to add the rear camera. Physically the front camera doesn’t appear to have been changed. It is still a lightweight unit that is easy to install with very good video/audio recording. With traffic the way it is these days having a recorded account/witness of any possible issues that might arise is really a must. Front Camera Unit comes with everything you would need to install, whether using the provided 12v “cigarette lighter” (about 157-inch cable) attachment or wired into your fuse box (as I did using 197-inch cable). It also comes with 3 different sized “piggy-back” fuse sizes. All come with required fuse already attached. Since I already had the NextBase app installed I just uninstalled old unit and installed new one. Unit/app walks you through the connection process which is easy to follow. I did have issues trying to do a firmware update and after 4 failed attempts I gave up but will try later. 3-inch touchscreen works okay, not great. It still only comes with a 3M tape attachment for the window. As with prior unit I wanted to be able to easily move it around on windshield or even to another vehicle. The NextBase site does have a suction cup available – and having ordered it for prior unit it was easy to pop off the old and pop on the new. I would suggest purchasing this and as cheap as it is I can’t believe they still don’t include it with the unit. It comes with a 32-inch USB-A to USB mini plug to charge unit before installing. Still no USB-C. I charged for a day - not sure how long internal battery lasts but its only used when parked in case of break-in, etc. And it charges while driving. I decided to record using 4K 30 fps video (multiple options) and 2 minutes video length Recordings are clear and have minimal distortion with clear audio. Even night recording was impressive. Stability control works very well as recordings are pretty much jitter free. It comes with 32GB U3 micro-sd and an SD adapter. I had a 500GB U2 card in prior unit and new unit picked it up with no problems. Using 4K it will eat up a lot of space, but it does record over automatically. Also, it’s easy to remove micro-sd card and view recordings on a computer as well. Using app allows for SOS emergency response if in an accident. Also has parking mode using its battery in case car is hit or someone tries to break in while parked. Can also use Alexa voice control but I really didn’t try this as I don’t use Alexa. Lots of options in settings to customize. Back Camera Unit is very compact, so it doesn’t block your view out the back much at all. Again, it only comes with 3M tape for attachment to window. But I could not find an alternative attachment at site. 140-degree wide angle 1080P recording resolution. Over 20-foot 2-piece power/connection cord, but it is thick. This makes it a tad difficult to tuck into the roof, etc. to hide. I wound up just running it from back and attaching to front just to be able to test. Will “hide” it later. It works fine but reduces what you can see on the 3-inch screen. Believe it has a 1-year warranty. Overall, a nice light weight and compact unit that is simple to setup and use. I would recommend especially given seamless operation of prior unit.

The Dash cam You Need Now

I’ve got an awesome dash cam and I think this is a must-have! The 622GW bundle is a major upgrade to any dash cam system you may have. Out of the box you can expect 3 boxes; one for your front-facing camera, one for your rear window camera, and the last is your hardwire kit. Also included is a 32GB U3 micro SD card. Everything you need to add safety and recording to your vehicle. The front camera is a great compact size, small enough to completely vanish from your view as you focus on the road ahead. To make everything simple and easy, there is a 3” touchscreen on the back of the camera, eliminating multiple buttons to press on/around the camera. Let me pause here, my first gripe came immediately while simply handling the camera before installing it. On the front of the camera there is a small door/cover for the click&go attachment mount. While simply rotating the camera in my hand, the door slips off; no pressure or anything, it just came off. I think this can cause a problem for anyone who may remove their camera fairly often as the opening has exposed metal prongs and what appears to be a small battery. I’ll move on. The rear camera is definitely smaller, a sphere which attached to the window mount via a magnetic connection….a pretty strong connection I might add. Ok, gripe #2. Disclaimer, this may just be my own bad luck. The hardwire kit includes a power cable, multiple 2 amp fuses, multiple fuse tap cables, and a ferrite core. While getting to the installation portion, the instructions state that I need to remove a fuse and insert it into the tap fuse. But, I noticed the multiple fuse tap wires included in the kit are too big for my fuse. My cars fuse simply does not fit, completely different shape and size. Now I’m frantic, fumbling through the website for support, troubleshooting, etc. After a trip down Google lane, I found that I have a mini low profile fuse, and no fuse tap to match it unless I purchase one. Well, don’t make the same mistake I made without paying attention to all the boxes. There’s also a 12v power cable included. Yes, shame on me lol. Installation was absolutely a breeze. Before testing out the camera, I downloaded the app, paired it with the camera, and I was ready to go. No issues during the pairing process, only a firmware update. During my first ride with the camera I was thoroughly impressed with the built in image stabilization. The roads in my city have pretty bad potholes so seeing the image remain super steady with this camera is great! What really grabbed my attention was the immediate trial of recording and playing back the video. You can edit the video on the camera directly! This is very convenient as you may need to get the proper footage in the best form immediately. Next I tested out the Alexa function. The camera was very responsive and seamless in understanding my words. I also love the driver assistance options. You have the ability to utilize your rear cam as a reversing camera. You have emergency SOS which can be paired with phone to automatically call emergency services in an accident. You have the option to change the recording resolution, exposure, video length, whether or not you want to record audio, time stamp, speed stamp, gps stamp, model stamp, and what I think is pretty cool is dual files (hi quality & lo quality), time lapse, G sensor sensitivity level, image stabilization and extreme weather options. Overall, the camera is super easy to setup, is very friendly, and gives you full control of recording what happens around your vehicle while you commute. If you want safety with ease, this is definitely the camera for you!

When asked to review this product, I had already installed a Rove R2-4K Dual in my car, so I had some experience with installing one. I installed this camera in a 2024 Subaru Forester. My package included the rear camera, hard wiring package, and a 32GB SD card. I will note that my Rove came with a 128GB SD card. The camera fit well behind the rear view mirror, directly below the Eyesight cameras that Subaru has in their cars. Since it's behind the mirror, it's not really viewable while driving, and it really shouldn't be as it would be a distraction. The base attached firmly to the windshield with the adhesive tape mount (my Rove has a suction cup mount, but it takes much more space). The power wire connects to the base and passes power to the camera through the magnetic attachment. The rear camera still connects directly to the camera, so if you remove the camera you must still unplug the rear camera cable. The two wires were easy to tuck into the trim around the windshield (this might vary on different cars). I ran the power under the dash to the 12v accessory jack (what we used to call the cigarette lighter). The car's driver preferred using it this way rather than hard wiring the camera to the car. In the Subaru, this power is only on when the car is started, so the camera does not drain the battery when parked. The cable to the rear camera I ran down along the floor, through the trim pieces, into the rear hatch area. The length was about perfect for this car, so I didn't need to bundle any excess cable (like I did with the power cable). However, a longer car might need a cable extension. Positioning the camera using the phone app allowed me to aim them easily. The image quality looks very good. Normal viewing on the camera's screen is the forward camera as the main image, then a smaller window showing the rear camera. Touching the rear image makes it full screen, and then it can be switched back. Oh yes, the app. The install told us to download the MyNextbase app, but when you try to link it to the camera it says you need a different app (which it links). However, once you download that app and complete the setup, then you must again use the MyNextbase app to actually control the camera. And that's where the app is a bit of a pain to use. The camera initially uses Bluetooth to connect to the app, and it happens very quickly. You can make all the adjustments to the camera and recording settings now. But to view the realtime video, you have to connect the app via WiFi, and here's where I had problems. Multiple times I had to close the app and reopen it again before it would connect to the camera's WiFi. Even when it works perfectly, it still takes far too long to locate and connect. Once it's finally connected, you get the front camera image, and a small icon at the bottom right for switching to the rear camera. Touching this icon switches the view immediately, but again on multiple occasions I only ended up with a black screen. Fortunately, none of these app issues cause a problem with the camera's recording functions, and every recording is available on the app for download. The only reason I give this four stars is the app issues. The camera and recording functions are just fine. For the price, I think they should provide a larger SD card, though.

      Hello,

Thank you for your detailed and thoughtful review, we're glad to hear the installation went smoothly and that you're happy with the camera’s image quality and core recording performance.

We appreciate your honest feedback regarding the app experience and SD card size. You're right app connectivity should be more seamless, and your comments help us continue improving that side of the experience. We'll also be sure to pass along your note about the SD card capacity to our team, especially as we know many customers are using 4K recording regularly.

It's great to hear that the dash cam itself is performing reliably and delivering the protection and quality you expect. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience with us!

The Nextbase 622XR bundle is a perfect way to start using a dash cam in your vehicle. It includes everything you need to get started: a 32 GB micro SD card, a front-facing dash cam, and a window-mounted rear camera. It also includes a fuse hardwiring kit that allows the camera to be installed in your vehicle.   With a 4K 30 frames per second resolution, you will be blown away by the footage from the cameras. The 3-inch touch screen is very nice. You can easily access your footage with the Nextbase app, which is really cool. So, you can save and share footage without going to an actual PC. For connectivity, it has Bluetooth 5.0 and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. The GPS is 10 GB, which moves very quickly and responsively. The parking mode safeguards your vehicle while you're away. I also checked on the website, and they have a cabin to which you can add a camera, which was also cool. I might look into that at a later date. To sum it up, if you're looking for a very nice dash cam package with image stabilization and remote functions through an app, check this out.

One of the better dash cams!

Unfortunately, it seems dash cams are a huge must in today's world, especially to help reduce/remove your liability if a situation occurs. And after one of our sons was recently in an accident (in a fun traffic circle), where the other driver was very insistent that my son was in the wrong, the dash cam footage left no doubt that he was not at fault. While I have had dash cams in my vehicle for 7 years now, and have footage of way too many close calls, that accident finally validated my point with my wife that we will always have dash cams in our vehicles, and she is in total agreement. When it comes to dash cams, there are so many brands and formats/designs to choose from. I've used 3 different brands, and by far, the Nextbase ones have been my favorite. Starting with a 320XR and then adding a 522GW. Unfortunately, we did start having trouble with the 320XR one my son was using (probably way too many days being out in the hot Texas sun), so we were needing a replacement in the family. I decided to go with an upgraded 4K resolution and felt the newer 622GW would be great to go ho with. One of the many things I like about Nextbase dash cams is their standard powered mount design (Click&Go Pro), which allows any of their models to be installed on it. With the power connecting to the mount instead of the dash cam itself allow it to be removed (with a little extra effort due to the strong magnet that holds it in place) to connect to a TV (through the Mini HDMI port, which is also used to connect the rear camera) or to your computer (through the mini USB), For me, I find it a little bit easier to pop out the microSD card and plug it into a card reader (just be careful when putting the card back in as will launch it across the car if it doesn't get clicked in place). The 622GW comes with their Click&Go Pro GPS mount to provide the GPS data. The screen is a 3" HD IPS touch screen and has only two non-touchscreen buttons: power and protect video. Be sure to check the microSD card specs that will be used. It needs at least a Class 10, but it will need to be U3 in order to use a rear camera if you decide to purchase one. It comes with an extra full pad mount (which the Click&Go Pro mount attaches to), which would allow having a pad mount in two vehicles, and can switch the Click&Go Pro mount and camera between the vehicles as necessary. The Rear Camera that is included is a decently sized sphere that is also attached to a strong magnetic mount (different design than the front). The main front camera has a 140º Wide-angle lens. The top resolution is 4K (3840 x 2160) @ 30fps, 1440p (2160 x 1440) @ 60fps. The final option is 1080P/120fps. With the 4K setting it does provide better image details when pausing compared with my 522GW at 1440p but still isn’t quite extremely smooth looking while playing the video. Unfortunately, even with 4K, it still won't get a visible shot of a license plate unless it is really close to the vehicle. I'm still not sure on which resolution I will keep it at, but not matter what resolution is used, it should still provide enough details of any incident. For the file sizes, at 2 minutes (which can be set at 1, 2, or 3 minutes in length), the 4K file is 400MB to 650MB. There is also a setting to have it record a lower-resolution video file in addition to the main file (Dual File mode), which is recorded at 480P/30fps. That is required if you want to view recordings when connected via the phone app. It does handle driving in the direction of the sun quite well, especially with the help of the polarizing lens filter. There isn't as much glare and can still the other vehicles and surroundings clearly. Night videos are not as grainy as my other dash cam, but with the less lighting, most of the objects around moving past (such as street signs) are fairly blurry. The Rear Camera records at 1080p. While not 4K, it will still help with providing details of anything that happens behind the vehicle. With the 128GB card, with the rear camera not recording, but with Dual File turned on, it will only be able to keep a 5, maybe 6-7 hours-worth of recordings (maybe 315 High and Low quality files), so be sure to get any videos copied off as soon as possible. One feature it has is Intelligent Parking Mode, where it will record a 30 second video if it detects physical movement of the vehicle, and will go back into standby after 5 minutes of no additional movement. With its G Force sensor using a very low amount of power, it is mentioned that it can remain active on battery for possibly over a week. Even with that, it is probably recommended to install a hard-wire kit if using the parking mode as it will turn off the parking mode when the battery is drained to 11.2V. The 622GW has built-in Wi-Fi (to allow managing, viewing, and downloading video files directly to your phone through the MyNextBase Connect app) and low-power Bluetooth (needed for MyNextBase app and/or Alexa connectivity). With the Alexa capability that is included, it will use your phone's active audio output (such as bluetooth or AUX cable to your car speakers) for response. For the dash cam related features, you can ask Alexa to stop or start recording, protect a recording, or send a recording to your phone. The Wi-Fi downloading feature is nice to have, but it does take quite a while to download the large files to the phone. As I mentioned earlier, I normally bring in the microSD card when necessary to copy the video files I want to save. A safety feature that is also available is Emergency SOS. When enabled and set up, If it detects a crash (by the way, a low-speed incident will not activate this), it will start a 2-minute timer. If the time isn't canceled (by tapping the "I'm OK" button on the phone), it will send your personal and medical Information (that you have configured) to Emergency Services (not sure what exactly that entails in the US, though) through the MyNextBase app on your phone. The PC app, MyNextBase Player, is a nice little app that retrieves all the data stored (GPS, compass and shock sensor data, if those are turned on in the settings in the dash cam) and displays the "realtime" data as you watch your video. It also shows the route taken along with an indicator of the current position in the video while the video is being played in your choice of map application (Google Maps or OpenStreet Maps). You can also click on a point on the route in the map, and the player will automatically go to that point in the video (nice feature if you are looking for something specific and you know around where it was in your drive). The app also has Snapshot, video editing (including trimming and annotating) and video sharing (uploading to MyNextbase Cloud or YouTube) capabilities. You will also be able to update dash cam firmware from the app (I was propmted to update the firmware the first time I connected). The only issue I have with the PC app is that you have to manually add a video to the list to be able to play. I would prefer that it monitors specified folder(s) for available videos to play. There are accessories that can be purchased separately, such as rear-view (cabin) cameras. While possibly any dash cam would do, I think this 4K dash cam is definitely great and one that should be considered!
