Don't have to break the bank for a good dash cam

So I have unfortunately been in a situation when a dash cam would have saved my butt and thousands of dollars...but I did not have one and it ended up being the worst-case scenario for me. Never trust people. Trust objective evidence. Trust video. Enter the Nextbase 322GW. Right out of the box, I was pleased with the build quality. I have used Nextbase products before and was satisfied them in the past. This time was no different. The 322GW feels fairly sturdy. Set up was easy enough. The design looks ok. It's not the sleekest or best-looking dash cam. The mounting system is magnetic and is strong enough that you don't have to worry about it falling off spontaneously. The important part is the video quality. In case you ever need it, you want your video quality to be good enough that you can actually see what is going on. The 322GW boasts 1080P resolution at 60 frames per second. This is exactly what you want. You want the clear image of full HD while also have a smooth video. I think higher video quality kind of hits a diminishing point of returns at this point. 4K video is nice but files are massive and especially if you want decent frame rates. This is the sweet spot. Don't get me wrong, video quality isn't determined just by resolution and frame rate. The 322GW won't blow you away but it gets the job done. All in all, the Nextbase 322GW is meant to offer good quality without breaking the bank. I think it accomplishes that.

Good Dashcam with Tons of Features

FEATURES 1080p recording at 60fps Emergency SOS feature GPS Ability to connect to your insurance provider or loved one. Ability to add a rear-view camera. Amazon Alexa support This is not a full feature list, just highlights. SET-UP The camera can be configured via the MyNextbase Connect app that is available in the iOS or Google Play store or by its 2.5” touchscreen. Either option allows you to adjust the many parameters of the camera: resolution, GPS functionality, speed tracking, audio recording, SOS notifications, etc. Initial set-up went fairly smooth, even though there were some bugs. I used an Android phone to configure the camera and had very little difficulty. Once installed, the app immediately recognized the camera, established a connection, and downloaded the latest firmware. Though I got errors saying my phone couldn’t establish a wi-fi connection to the camera, everything went without issue. After a successful firmware update, I never received any additional errors. USE The dashcam has performed without issue and appears to be very rugged. It has never failed to work even in the 100+ degree heat. Video recording is very clear, even if restricted to only 1080p resolution. The ability to record video at 60 frames per second goes a long way in video clarity, especially when driving at highway speeds. The camera has a 140-degree field of view and has no problem seeing three lanes of traffic starting about halfway down the hood of my car. License plates and street signs are legible. The lens has a polarizing filter to help cut down on glare when facing toward the sun or other bright objects. Camera videos can be viewed in 1 of 3 ways: the MyNextbase player app for the desktop, the 2.5" touchscreen on the device, or by the MyNextbase Connect app on your phone or tablet. When viewing on your phone or tablet, the dashcam establishes a Bluetooth connection for low resolution video playback, but can also link to your phone or tablet via a wi-fi connection for high resolution video download or playback. I must add that the switch between Bluetooth and wi-fi has proven seamless since the dashcam’s firmware update. The software automatically saves clips at a user-selectable 1, 2, or 3-minute interval. Each 1 minute, 1080p, 60fps video clip occupies approximately 125MB of space. Choose your microSD card (not included) wisely, if you want to retain videos for longer periods before having them overwritten. The camera can be configured to call emergency services in the event of a detected accident. The camera gives you a warning on your phone and if you fail to reply to the warning on the phone’s screen, the camera will initiate a call to first responders with your name, location, and any medical conditions, should you program the information in. Thankfully, I have not had to test this feature. The MyNextbase Cloud website is a cool feature. This is a secure site where you can upload any dashcam videos you would like saved. It is a free service and Nextbase will save your files for 30 days. Once you have uploaded the video, Nextbase emails a secure link to that video. This link can then be shared with whomever you deem necessary: insurance, authorities, etc. Again, thankfully I have not had the need to test this feature either, but can definitely see the benefit and give major credit to Nextbase for offering it as a free service. The GPS is very accurate. Playing back videos recorded on the dashcam splits the screen on your phone or tablet. On the top is the footage from the camera and on the bottom is the GPS information: speed, direction, coordinates, etc. It is a really cool system and the GPS information is in sync with the video playback, even showing your position on a map overlay. Playback is smooth and has never stuttered or been choppy. NEGATIVES Nextbase app. The app is buggy. It gave me errors during the initial set-up process. Though, the app worked through any errors, it was not a smooth, issue-free experience. The app freezes during video playback. After viewing several videos on my Android phone, the app will fail to connect back to the dashcam and retrieve any additional information or videos. A reboot of the app and camera re-establishes the connection. Alexa. While this appears to be a good idea, it falls flat in practice. The dashcam can be linked to your Alexa app installed on your Android or iOS phone. Once linked, the mic on the dashcam can be used to access Alexa and make requests from her. This is better in theory than in practice, as the mic on the dashcam does not record audio all that cleanly or consistently. To be fair to Nextbase, this may be able to be improved with repositioning the dashcam, but at just off center of the top of the windshield, every sound is muffled. CONCLUSION I really like this camera. The 2.5” touchscreen is easy to use and very responsive. Both the app and the direct menu of the dashcam are intuitive and easy to learn and navigate. The dashcam has a ton of features and safety systems built-in. I even appreciate the sleep mode where the camera will record video if it detects a jarring movement while powered off. Like I said before, the camera itself has worked flawlessly, even with interior car temps well over 100+ degrees. Even though the apps are a little buggy, Nextbase appears to have put a ton of effort and thought into their products. Based on all the built-in, thoughtful features, free cloud storage, and overall ease of use, I give this product 5 stars.

For reference, I opted to have Geek Squad install the camera, so I can't speak to installation, but reading through the quick start guide, it appears relatively easy. The video is crisp and the touch screen is very responsive. There are lots of options to customize your readouts and video stamping. From speed to GPS, you're covered. I installed the app, and had no issues synching. It provides a live view, a direct wifi transfer of videos if needed and access to the library. I do not like that app needs to run all the time, but I understand the necessity. The field of view is fairly wide, although a few degrees more would have been appreciated. I like to see the more peripheral in my screen. Auto on/off works flawlessly and I have not had any issue with failure to record upon turning on or efficiently powering down. This is a great unit, and I will be purchasing the matching rear camera in the future. No complaints thus far, and I hope it remains that way.

If I had only known how great a dashcam could be I would have had one in my vehicle years ago. I didn't know how useful it would be, but the Nextbase - 322GW Dash Cam shocked me. It's a fantastic camera! It is super simple to set up. The large touchscreen on the back helps with that. It's very responsive. It comes with a variety of mounts, and cables. My camera sits right below my rear view mirror, and the cable was tucked away with the handy little tool they included to help hide it along the edges of my headliner. Video shoots in 1080p 60fps, it looks amazing. It automatically powers on when I start the car, and immediately begins filming. If you have a clip you want to save from being overwritten as the camera continues to record you just press the big red button on the back, and the most recent clip is protected. I took it on a trip to Alaska, and ended up saving a lot of the footage from it because the quality was so good as it captured the surrounding scenery. As a more practical use you always have a set of eyes of the road everywhere you go. Were you the victim of a car collision that wasn't your fault? You will always have proof. I really can't say enough good things about the Nextbase. They have found an excellent compromise between price, and quality. If you are considering a dashcam check it out.

I’ve had experience with a few inexpensive dash cams, and this is one of the first time I’ve had a more advanced one. First of all, mounting was dead simple. Included is their Click and Go GPS mount. The box isn’t very clear about what this is, but it’s a mount that sticks onto the inside of your windshield and has a GPS device inside. Your new camera just sticks to it via a strong magnet and passes along power and GPS data. Plug in the included power cable, and you’re ready to go! The video is extremely clean and it’s easy to make out license plates. If you’ve ever used a cheaper camera you will be very happy with the difference in video quality. The built in display is amazing and may be a little overqualified for a device like this where you won’t use it much, but it’s a welcome addition. You can set up the camera through Bluetooth, which is a vast improvement to doing it on screen with other cameras. You can also transfer video wirelessly to your phone should you need to. When you play back video in the app there’s a cool function that shows your position on a map below the video in real time along with information about speed and heading. I’ve been extremely impressed with this camera so far and am considering purchasing the optional plug-in module to record out the back of my convertible.

First off, it does not come with the MicroSD card that it needs. I had a MicroSD card from another device, but it was not the right type of card, so I had to get a new one (about $20 or less). I've never had a dashcam before, so it was interesting figuring this one out. It's pretty easy to set up, it comes with a power cable for your car (cigarette lighter type) and a couple of different types of connectors for mounting the cam on your windshield, either a sticker or a suction cup. I opted for the suction cup for now, so it's not permanent. Mounting it up by the rearview mirror seems to work well and keep it mostly out of sight. I was able to download the software from the Nextbase website to view and manage videos on my computer (it comes with a USB cable to connect the cam to your computer), plus there are Apple and Android apps available for phones or tablets. You can connect to the cam with your phone via Bluetooth or Wifi, whichever is available. With the computer or phone software, you can view and edit the videos and it shows you (because of the built-in GPS) the route you took, direction, speed, etc. Be warned, the cam also records sound inside the car. The videos are good quality, especially given how small the cam is. The display screen on the back is pretty small, people with less-than-perfect vision may need glasses to go through the cam menus. Recording is pretty simple though, press the red button on the screen to start recording and press it again to stop.

I have had 3 dash cams and this is by far the best both for the angle provided, the ease of mounting, the build quality and the options to view your recordings. The mounting options are excellent and so to when once mounted the sturdiness of the mounts holding ability. This is my first dash cam that I can connect to my phone and see my recordings. The park lot mode is so useful to see all the bumps and jostles your car gets from other cars parking in front or shoppers banging into your car with their carts. The gps module works flawlessly and provides accurate gos coordinates and speeds. The wide angle lens is really a great value and provides the best view if any of my dash cams. I will be getting the rear camera nextbase to connect to the front unit to provide complete coverage.

Great dashcam for the price. If you are familiar with removing a few panels in door jams, finding and connecting to a source of power typically found in automobiles, then this is a piece of cake. Adhesive mounts make it the actual mounting process the easiest part. I would recommend using the hardwire kit available from Nextbase if you do not have, or do not wish to use, a cigarette lighter/charger in your vehicle. Outside of a firmware update, setup is straightforward. I haven’t had any issues yet. The information you get from the application is fantastic. Having the option to pull video from the device via the app, from the camera itself, or from the MicroSD card is very convenient. One concern I have though is the heat. It’s the middle of winter now and this is installed on a car that is mostly garaged. I’m very curious if it will perform as it does now in those conditions.

I have had a Nextbase dash cam prior and they have made some improvements from the last. It has more clear video. It has touch screen functions and we get a year of an SOS program that it can contact emergency services if it detects the vehicle was in an accident. After it is I believe $5/month which isn't a bad price if you don't have a vehicle with that feature. It was fairly easy to setup and you do need to add an SD card. This camera is easy to setup and use. You can purchase a rear camera but we did not do that yet. If you are looking for a dash cam this one is a good choice.

Wow, 1 word: overwhelming! I’m talking about features, and this is not a bad thing! This camera does a LOT more than you probably need it to, but these features are intended to give you all the information you need, if you ever need it. Aesthetically, it is a beautiful looking touchscreen camera, and it weighs enough that you know it’s durable and not cheap. I could probably write an essay on the features, so I’ll try to give you some of the highlights. It can connect to your phone wirelessly, where you can view live video, and download live or recorded video to your phone. The magnet that attaches to the mount is very effective, and it is very easy to mount and dismount the camera alone. The temperature rating for it is -4 F to 113 F so in really cold winters or really hot summers you need to put it away when you leave the car. I’ve lived in both so while it’s a bit inconvenient, I can’t really see many camera products really holding well outside of those temperatures. Mounting options are good, as you can mount directly to the windshield or use a suction cup to mount to. It even includes a tool to tuck the wire from your cigarette lighter. The ONE drawback I was a bit disappointed with, is that the cigarette lighter plug does NOT include an additional USB port. This is important to me because if you are going to take up my valuable cigarette lighter port, I need options to charge my phone or other devices. Because of this, I may have to buy a cigarette lighter splitter and then my setup starts to look ugly and messy. This brings my rating for it down half a star for me to a grand total of 4.5 stars out of 5. The nextbase dash cam program allows you to replay your video with all kinds of information, such as speed, location (coordinates), time, dashcam model, and your license plate number if you enter into the camera settings. It is a beautiful looking setup, something like you’d see if you were a cop. Speaking of cops, you can upload your video to a hub and then use a code to download it from anywhere. I didn’t actually try this feature, but I read about it. Apparently in the UK it can go directly to their police department, and if they had that feature here in the US, it would be very handy. Overall, I would recommend this camera simply because it does everything you’d ever need a dashcam to do, besides probably record the rear, which you can just get an additional one and link them up. It does use your phone and app for some of the features but frankly if you don’t have a phone, you probably don’t need a dashcam :-) so go get yourself a phone first. Highly recommend! By the way, grab a 64gb mini sd card while you're at it so you have plenty of space. A 32gb will get you about 4 hours worth of driving before having to write over it. The end.

    A Must Have

The Nextbase 322GW dash cam is really a must have if you drive anywhere regularly. For less than $200, this camera can provide a great deal of peace of mind for you or a family member. Even though this camera isn't the top of the line model, it still features 140 degree 1080p resolution and a really nice suite of features via the app/computer software. Out of the box, the Nextbase 322GW is smaller than my cell phone and comes with a nice suction or adhesive mount and plenty of 12v adapter wiring to run from the source under/around the dash, up the A pillar and under the roof trim to the rear view mirror which I think is the ideal location to keep the camera discreetly located while still being accessible. By connecting your phone to the camera or directly via the VERY MUCH appreciated touch screen display, you can adjust the settings on the camera. You can change the video clip length (1, 2, or 3 min), resolution, frames per second, etc. As with most cameras, once the memory is full, the oldest video is overwritten. What I love about the Nextbase 322GW is that it has an automatic (if selected) option where certain G-forces/shocks can trigger a file to be protected. There is also a button on the camera where you can manually protect a file or take a snapshot picture. With the default 1080p and 60 frames per second setting, you will get the best quality. I found this to be more than sufficient for everyday commuting uses. In fact, I think the 30 fps would do just as well. That being said, your settings should reflect your available storage and individual preferences with regard to how long you want/need the video saved. You're going to burn about .5 GB for ever 3 minutes of 60fps 1080p video collected. One major downside of this camera is that it doesn't include a SD video card. As cheap as these cards are, it really would've been a positive if one was included rather than forcing buyers to likely get home and then run back out or order a storage card. They could've built this into the price and I don't think it would've turned anyone off. If you have a 30 minute commute, that's 10GB for a round-trip commute. For me, I'm comfortable with the 32GB card that Nextbase provided to aid me in this review. If an accident happens, I'll most definitely save the video or it will automatically be protected so I'm not sure why I would want older videos when no incident occurred. The parking mode feature that is included with this camera could be a benefit. It operates on the built-in battery and automatically activates when the camera senses any kind of shock/vibration. While this initially interested me, I'm not sure how useful it is. My testing showed that even a loud rumble from a passing vehicle/truck can trigger the recording. At 1 minute each, it can quickly eat up storage. In addition, it only records after a vibration/shock. Unless someone hits you from the direction of the camera, you won't see anything. Even then, you would only see the vehicle/person leaving so you're not ever likely to catch someone with this feature or at least with any usable evidence. In conclusion, I think every responsible person should have one of these cameras...In fact, they should be mandatory in vehicles on all four sides. Think about how many traffic incidents that it would resolve. For this specific camera, I can't recommend it enough. Once viewing on your computer (which you would likely do for court/insurance), the software overlays lots of metadata (Speed, GPS coordinates, direction, map, g-force, etc) which is extremely helpful. Driving with this piece of very very reasonably priced equipment would give me so much peace of mind and proof that I would not otherwise be able to have. Pros: -Price -Video quality -Features -Meta data overlay -Size Cons: -Setup

    Great little dash cam

I love having a dash cam. I like the idea of having a record of what happened that is more accurate than the memories of those involved. The Nextbase 322GW is a great little dash cam for recording what happens on your daily drive. Setup is very simple and relatively quick. Simply download the "My Nextbase" app from the Apple App Store or Google Play store, insert the Micro SD card, and power up. Next, connect the camera to your phone following the instructions in the app, and complete the setup process via the app. The only issue I had was the app providing an error message while connecting that initially made me believe the connection didn't work, so I started the process over once or twice. Just be patient and the camera will connect to your phone... Video quality is very good, and the wide angle lense captures a huge arc in front of the vehicle. Interestingly, after hitting a deer, I was sure I should have seen the animal and had time to stop, but I then learned that the camera was seeing things much further to the left and right than my eyes can see, so the deer was visible to the camera well before it came into my vision. The camera comes with 3M with mounts that use 3M VHB tape to attach to your windshield. This tape stick securely and stays. It works much better than the suction cup mount on the that came with my older camera. The suction cup sometimes loses it's hold, and the camera falls and hangs from its power cord. I fear that this will eventually damage the cord or the jack on the camera, so the double-sided tape mount is a big upgrade. The camera also comes with a nice long power cord, which makes it easy to route it out of the way, and even behind door post trim and headliner if you wish. Obtaining captured video from the camera is very easy using the free app as well, so if you need to hand it over to the police you can do so in mere seconds. The camera also allows for a second rear-facing camera to be connected, providing nearly 360 degrees of coverage. If you're inthe market for a dash cam, this would be an excellent choice.

I have an iphone and it never wants to connect via wi-fi. No customer service in the US. It shuts off while downloading to my phone when it works so I cant save anything. Picture quality is great but that doesn't matter if I can't get it off the cam onto my phone or pc. I have tried several different settings and my cam is hard wired to my car so there shouldn't be a power issue. I do like the fact that it will go into screen saver mode while I'm driving and show the current speed.

The GW322 is the mid-level version of the new line of high quality dashcams from NextBase. The GW322 combines a high quality 1080p camera with excellent software and features for great all around dashcam experience that clearly leverages their experience and customer feedback. Pros: - Attractive, high quality construction for all components, including mounts and cables. - Excellent video quality (plus a simultaneously recorded lower quality version for easy preview and file transfer). - Mounting hardware is stable, easy to use, and includes options for an adhesive mount (with spare adhesive pad) and a suction cup mount. - The cam-to-mount connection is magnetic for easy removal. - Bluetooth + Wifi connections give you the best of both worlds: easy pairing and (reasonably) fast data transfer - High quality GPS and accelerometers add telemetry and map locations into recorded video files. - S.O.S function combined with Bluetooth allows the device to initiate emergency service calls in the event of an accident. - Files play back via standard video players, but when loaded into the custom desktop or mobile software (I tried the Windows and Android versions) you can also simultaneously via map progress and telemetry such as speed, acceleration, cornering forces, etc. - Parking mode can detect collisions while parked and record the offender - Touch screen makes for ease of use Cons: - Downloading videos, even over Wifi, can be time consuming. I got transfer speeds of about 1-2MB/s, with a typical 1 minute clip being about 180MB is size. Plugging into USB makes the transfer much faster. - Depending on your phone, the Bluetooth connection may or may not interfere with your hands free Bluetooth connection to your car. In most cases this shouldn’t be an issue. Other Comments: This cam has been performing well and generally requires little to no user intervention once set up. It continues to record in 1 min increments and will replace older clips when required. There’s also an easy-to-trigger red “protect” button that ensures the current clip will not be overwritten later. The playback software is truly impressive, simultaneously plotting map location and telemetry information as the video plays. You can also have the unit “burn in” an overlay of speed, location, etc. on the video itself. I also appreciate the addition of the S.O.S. functionality in this unit. While many newer vehicles come with an emergency call feature, these often require paid subscriptions and are seldom available in older or lower priced cars. By building this in to the dashcam, NextBase has provided an easy path to add this great safety technology to almost any car. The system does provide multiple opportunities for the driver to cancel the call, so false alarms should not be an issue. Setup was easy and the device checks for and installs any available firmware updates when first paired with your smartphone or plugged into your PC. Overall this is a very well designed device that will look at home in even high end vehicles (a tool to assist with concealing wires is provided in the box) and will provide an excellent and detailed independent witness to anything you encounter on the road.

I was thoroughly impressed with the NextBase dash cam, it is a well built well functioning device that works great and looks good in your vehicle. Depending on your skill level and confidence it is quite easy to install on your own without having to modify anything in your vehicle, otherwise you can take it in and have it installed quick and easy. The ability to connect to my phone and review the footage makes it a breeze to look through any footage if you need to rather than trashing the camera off your windshield or trying to toggle through it on your window. Overall a great dash cam that I would recommend to anyone looking for one.

I have been wanting a dash cam for some time and I think I have found one that meets my needs and price reasonably. This is the first time I install a dash cam in my vehicle, and I am pleased to say that installation and downloading the software took less than 15 minutes (including a firmware update for the camera). I recommend this camera for anyone wanting to record their driving logs and be protected with video evidence in case you need it. Really though I am hoping that I use it less for this but more to capture cool and random things that can happen in the roads. Here is a breakdown and my rating on the features of the dash cam: Video Quality – 5/5 I am content with the 1080p that this small dash cam puts out and it works great at night time as well. It is bright and I have no issues with the visibility. Very happy with the results! 2.5 Touch Screen – 5/5 I like that the camera is small and so this screen size is perfect. I have no issues with the touch screen. It’s responsive in Colorado cold weather. Included Attachments– 5/5 I appreciate that the box included two different attachments. I found one that works for me and keeps the camera hidden right below my rear-view mirror. NextBase App – 3/5 The download and syncing of the app and the dash cam was faster than I expected. However, the app can use some work. I don’t like that there are ads on the app and the features are very limited. Honestly, I won’t be using the app much unless I want to download video that the dash cam capture, so this is not a deal breaker for me. I just think NextBase can spend some time on improving the app an make it more intuitive and useful for users.

This is a great and affordable dash cam. If I had to give them a ding it would be in the setup instruction. They are not the best however if you a little tech savvy you can get through with no problems. I didn’t fully install as I wanted to test it in multiple vehicles however it come with a toll to help hide the wires. I did user the magnet base and suction cup and they work really well. You typically have problems with the suction cup mounts however once attached this one was very firm. I ran through most of the feature and they are easy and straightforward. The GPS and MPH were very close to actual. Fortunately I did not use the auto crash notification however based on everything else I would assume it works as stated. One thing that I did notice was a bit of reflection on a slanted widow with bright sunlight. It wasn’t overwhelming but noticeable in playback. Playback was really good. The ability to use your phone is a real plus. The device work well for play back but the screen is a little to small for my eyes so either the phone or removing the card and using the browser on the pc would be the best option. Also if you download the files they are aid a standard former so no conversion necessary. Overall this is the best dash cam I’ve seen at this price point based on all factors from design to setup to ease of use.

Nextbase may not be a brand you've heard of before but when you know their products, you'll know they're quality products at a great value. Take the 322GW model - it's based on another stellar model but adds a touch screen and the ability to view and control it with your smartphone. The 1080p camera is crystal clear for recording your trips through traffic and everything both works and is easily controllable from your phone. The only negative is that it does not come with a MicroSD card and requires that you buy a U3-capable card because it does record high-quality video, but I was able to put a 512GB card into mine and it recognized it right away. If you're looking for a dash cam, look no further than the Nextbase 322GW unless you feel you need 4k recording, which if you do need that, Nextbase has another model with a similar feature set and 4k that's just for you, too!

Dash Cam is awesome, the app is crap

Glad I skipped the 522GW and 422GW, did't need the extra resolution or Alexa listening in. 1080p at 60hz is perfect. Snapshots are also good. The phone app on the other hand is complete garbage. Multiple failures to connect, connections dropped, then when it works only transfers the low resolution video. Would be nice if the Dash Cam could be configured to record 1080p only. Nextbase has instead chosen to record both 1080p and low resolution, mistakenly believing that people will use their useless app. This just takes up extra space on the SD card and overwrites old video sooner.

This is a quality dash cam and a big step up from one I got on Amazon. It feels more solid and I like the sticker attachment to the windshield instead of a vacuum suction cup that falls off. The cable was long enough for me to wind it through the interior covering of the car and under the floor mat. I was able to turn off the beeping and startup noises in the settings which is nice. I can tell with a glance from the drivers seat that it is recording thanks to the lights positioned on the sides. The screen is remarkably clear and has a fast framerate which makes playback easy to see. The app is trash. I don’t recommend it. I had constant connection problems and couldn’t download or view clips on my phone.
