I purchased this lens as an upgrade to my 1.8G FX lens. I was looking for the professional 1.4 look and it's there. This lens is a little heavier/meatier than it's 1.8 counterpart. Picture quality is great, I'd say it tends to shoot a little more on the warmer side than the 1.8. Now, I have seen reviews online that the 1.8 is technically sharper. I haven't personally done any side-by-side comparisons, but if you're shooting at 1.4 it's going to be a little soft. If it's between this lens and the 1.8 I think it comes down to how much you want to spend. If you've got the money, go with this lens. If you're on a budget, the 1.8 is a great lens.

My wife and I were expecting a newborn so I got this for her birthday. The images are stunning for portraits even in low light. This is a must have for family portraits. I am a hobby photographer and don't have a lot of time to edit so I want pictures that look great off the camera.

I bought this to upgrade the lens that came with my Nikon 3300, spent a little more than I was budgeting but I wanted something to work well when I decide to upgrade my camera. What an amazing difference it makes even on an entry level camera. Fantastic clarity in low light and concert lighting (my primary use) I recommend it for anyone looking to take a step up from a basic lens.

Great walking around lens. Low light is no longer an issue. Have it mounted on a Nikon Z6 with F mount adapter. I suspect the Z lens would be even crisper but this is a nice item for your camera kit.

This 50mm 1.4f is the best lens I own. I have a D3200 and instead of upgrading to a D750 or D780 I bought a lens. Out the box I was taking great pictures sitting on the couch watching the Oscars. I took it to work and shot pictures of my coworkers, then I realized why I paid the extra money and got the 1.4 over the 1.8. It’s given my pictures a new professional look that I feel justified spending a couple bucks more on. If I had to do it all over again I would make the same choice. I hopes this helps anyone who’s undecided.

I need a 50mm lens on my full frame camera and this is just the lens I was looking for. f1.4 makes manual focus at close distances a challenge but being able to focus at infinity makes focus much better for video use. I use this for documentary films and it does great at capturing action and does even better for interviews. If you want to use this with auto focus and you camera lets you choose the focus speed, I recommend the slowest setting. This will give you smooth looking focus, very close to what you would get if doing it by hand. The out of focus areas at 1.4 look amazing.

This is an amazing portrait lens. I'd buy this lens over and over again. 50mm is close to what the eye sees and the f/1.4 makes for some INCREDIBLE depth of field. Out of the box this lens feels totally solid, the autofocus is ridiculously quiet. Out of the 4 other lens' I have it's the fastest focusing. This is most definitely a portrait lens, but don't be afraid to use it for some landscape. That f/1.4 makes for some cool effects.

I am relatively new to the world of true photography, so the 50mm lens is taking a little getting used to. I tried working with it for kids photos, and have to figure out the "sweet spot." I have a D7000 body and am still learning that, too. Yet despite my newbie status this lens has given me some great images inside and out. I'm very glad I picked it up!

I was going to get the 85mm 1.8G but, oh boy I'm glad I bought this one. Since the lens is 1.4G it makes the photo a lot sharper on the thing or person you are focusing and everything else comes about blurred out like if you had a 5,000 dollar camera. Worth it all the way.

I have used this lens in a variety of lighting conditions from bright sunlight, low light and with flash and it has produced crisp, well balanced photos.
