Bye Bye Frozen Pizza!

I’ve been wanting to try a pizza maker for a couple of years and was glad to finally get my hands on one recently with the Ninja Artisan Outdoor Pizza Oven. I was torn on going wood, electric or a combo and can report that this oven, which is electric, will certainly be my new pizza maker going forward.
The oven came well packaged and includes the oven, a 12” cooking stone, 12” Baking Tray, Quick Start Guide and Owner's Guide. Set up is very easy, simply unbox, review the start guide, plug it in and it’s ready to go. The build is top-quality as one would expect from a brand like Ninja, and the grey color matches our exterior color scheme on the deck where it will be used. As I’ve never used a pizza oven before, the included guide was a welcome addition, as it explains the different kinds of pizza, how to prepare the ingredients and which settings to use for each style pizza (or other tasty treats).
We decided to try our hand at making two different style pizzas – a Neapolitan and a thin-crust pizza Margarita. Using the guide helped in preparation, but a bit of advice is using less dough for the pizza than you think is needed! Also, get a pizza peel as it’s a necessary with this, and any pizza oven. Ninja makes a peel, but it was not included with this package. They also make a cover and stand, which we already have on order from Best Buy.
Cooking – the Ninja Artisan Oven couldn’t be any easier to use, there are five preset pizza styles, and the oven sets the temperature and the cook time automatically. Either setting can also be adjusted manually if needed. For the Neapolitan, the oven sets to 700 degrees and took about 10 minutes to preheat. Once ready, the oven signals that it’s time to cook, simply put the pizza in and hit the “start/stop” button and the time (set for 3 minutes for this pizza) starts. When done, the Ninja signals it’s time to remove the pizza. We had definitely used too much dough on our pizzas, so I ended up putting it back in for 30 seconds to darken it up a bit. The results – not the greatest looking pizza, but it was delicious, way better than the typical frozen pizza most people eat.
Other Features – although my review focuses on the pizza making aspect of this oven, the Ninja Artisan Outdoor Oven also offers settings for baking, proofing, broiling and warming on top of making pizzas. We plan on trying some of the dessert/pastry recipes listed in the included guide. There’s also a window on the door, so you can check on the progress without opening the oven. Along with the window, there is also a light when cooking in a darker environment.
Overall Impressions – The Ninja Artisan Outdoor Pizza Oven is a great option for anyone looking to start making their own pizzas. It’s very easy to use, looks great on the deck and Ninja offers several add-ons like a stand, peel and cover. The controls are laid out well, easy to read/understand and the build quality is solid. This oven feels like it will last for many years to come. We plan on making a pizza night get together with the neighborhood a weekly event as cooking with this oven not only provides great pizza but it’s also entertaining to prep and cook your own pizzas!

We tend to eat a lot of pizzas so I had been thinking of getting a pizza oven for a while. We did have a pizza cooker about 10-15 years ago and it was OK, but only had a heating element on top so the bottom never crisped up. You don't have that issue with this oven with a pizza stone.
First, getting the oven ready is really quick. After unboxing, all you need to do is put the pizza stone in the oven, take it outside and plug it in. It took less than 10 minutes to get it setup even with me taking pictures and reading through the quick start guide. The package comes with the pizza stone, oven, metal cooking pan, and instructions/recipe book.
I did buy a pizza peel since I didn't want to put my hand in a 700 degree oven to try to pull out the pizza...I consider this a must have addition for this pizza oven. Other than that, nothing else is really needed.
OK, the most important part...how did it cook the pizza. I've made three pizzas since getting the oven and two were a big success and other was not so great. The first one was a frozen thin crust pizza and turned out great. I did note that it says that the oven will preheat in 5-7 minutes. I found it took a lot longer than that, closer to 10-15 minutes. It only took 4 minutes to cook though, so overall it took about the same as cooking in the oven.
For the second pizza, I decided to make one from scratch. This one didn't end so well, but I blame myself for not using enough flour on the peel and stone prior to trying to put the pizza in the oven. The pizza stuck to the peel so I had a tough time getting it into the oven. Then the raw dough burned onto the stone so I had a really tough time getting it out of the oven at the end. Needless to say, a lot of burned pizza stayed stuck to the pizza stone and I had to wait for it to cool to scrape off all the burned crust (and toppings that fell off the back trying to get the pizza out).
That brings up one caution that was highlighted regarding the pizza stone. The quick start guide makes it very clear that you should never get the pizza stone wet and never clean with soap. If the stone does get wet, make sure it is completely dry before using it again or you may end up cracking the stone.
The last pizza was also a frozen pizza and turned out good. There are 4 pizza settings (Neapolitan, Thin Crust, New York Style, and Pan Pizza) and you can also use custom settings to set temp/time separately. For the first pizza I used Thin Crust, the second used Neapolitan, and NY style for the 3rd. Cook times seemed right for the first two, but the 3rd pizza could have used another couple of minutes.
Overall, I would recommend this pizza oven and plan to use it extensively...probably more frozen pizzas than from scratch though.

With the Ninja pizza oven you can make your own restaurant style pizzas at home with healthy ingredients! I’m a huge pizza fan specifically thin crust New York style pizza, so having something that I can make my own at home is nice. The included recipe book gives good instructions on how to get started with creating your pizza with detailed instructions on making your own dough or using store bought. The one thing I wish Ninja included was the Pizza Peel, this is optional, but it’s really essential and almost a pain if you don’t have one. So if you’re a novice at making pizzas, I’d recommend getting a pizza peel before making your first one, especially if you’re making one with a lot of toppings.
My first pizza was a simple thin/NY style cheese pizza and it came out awesome. Making pizza will be the main thing we will use it for but I like that it has other functionality also. My girlfriend wants to start making homemade sourdough so having the ability to make homemade bread with this is a definite plus.
If you’re a pizza lover and like to be able to make your own with fresh ingredients, the Artisan pizza oven is a great addition.

We are novices at outdoor pizzas. So we had to make quite a few pizzas before writing this review. The oven comes with a Quick Start Guide / Recipe Book, pizza stone and baking pan. The guide is only so helpful and it warns you to never allow the pizza stone to get wet. No pizza peel is included – it should be.
Just insert your pizza stone into the oven. Before your first use you will heat for 20 minutes. Then you can set to the desired setting and preheat.
I do know about cooking and pizza dough. We opted for the Artisan Pizza Dough recipe to make Neapolitan pizzas. Pizza flour makes a nice crust with some chew and good flavor. What it doesn’t tell you is that some semolina on the bottom of your crust can help it slide better. We didn’t have a pizza peel, so we made do with the bottom of a pan. Much harder to use.
If you follow the recipes in the book and make your own dough, the process adds 60-90 minutes. I made the dough and cold-proofed it in the fridge and then warmed it up at room temperature the next day.
The hardest part is getting the dough shaped into your circle. You cannot have any holes in the pizza crust and it must not be too thick. This is where experience comes in play. We were much better after a few days. We also put too many toppings on. The booklet warns you not to, but we didn’t listen the first time. The issue is that it is hard to slide the pizza if it has too many toppings as they will start to fall off in the oven when you transfer the pizza. You have been warned.
We used the oven on our deck and set it on a Polywood table. I was worried the bottom would be too hot and damage the table so we set the unit on cardboard. The bottom, surprisingly, doesn’t get that hot. The top of the oven does. Ninja also sells a stand for this oven.
The pizzas cooked very fast – 3 minutes. It needed to reheat for about 6 minutes between pizzas. It was cooked perfectly and tasted great.
The unit weighs 30 lbs. Pick a spot to keep it. Ninja also sells a cover and says it can stay outdoors. We live in Minnesota and don’t leave much outdoors year round. I would be worried about cracking the stone if you start from freezing temperatures.
We like the oven. Better instructions would have helped but we searched online for assistance. You need a pizza peel with holes. Highly recommended.

Electric better than gas

The ninja artisan outdoor pizza oven is incredible! I’ve used other outdoor pizza ovens, including those that are woodfired and propane gas, I think I am hooked on electric.
Woodfired ovens give a great taste, but are hard to control the temperature. Often times you end up over cooking or charting your pizza.
Gas powered always manages to leave a little bit of a strange taste.
With the ninja, that’s just not a problem. It heats up quickly and cooks evenly. Pizzas come out tasting phenomenal and cooked perfectly. You don’t even have to turn the pizza while cooking. Right around 3 minutes cook time is perfect.
The build quality of the ninja artisan outdoor pizza oven is really impressive. The door feels heavy in a good way. It gets a great seal to keep the heat in. The display is easy to read, even with the setting sun shining down on it.
I just love this thing and can’t wait to try cooking more things on it. It comes with a pizza stone and a metal pan, so the possibilities are endless!

There's nothing like a fresh pizza out of the oven, even the pre-made ones I usually buy, so I was really excited about trying to make my own pizza. Being new to making my own pizza, I didn't want to spend a lot of money on other pizza ovens that costs hundreds, if not thousands more. Looking at reviews across the internet, the Ninja Artisian looked like a good choice and I have to say, I agree. First off, this unit is very heavy and a lot bigger than I thought. Definitely something to use outdoors unless you have a really large kitchen with a big counter top. This unit did not fit anywhere in my average size kitchen. The unit comes with a deep dish pan and a ceramic tile, which is meant to cook the pizza on. The cord is very short, but very thick, leading me to believe that it draws a lot of power. As for cooking pizza's, my first couple of tries didn't come out well so I didn't post any pictures. LOL. I can say that the oven got really hot so I think it's going to take me a few more tries to get it right. I totally see once I figure this out and can show the family how to do it, it's going to make a great family night. Just for the fact of making pizza's with the family is worth what the Ninja Artisian cost, imo. The added instructions are helpful, but again, doing different types of pizza requires trial and error. So glad I got this.

Picked this up for $180. PROS: small, easy to use, gives pizza a texture and flavor that you dont get from a regular oven. CONS: outdoor use only, single purpose only, doesn’t get as hot as some competitor electric pizza ovens, price adds up if you need to buy a stand, 12” peel, weather proof cover, etc

This thing works great! The only downside is how difficult pizzas are to get out even with a pizza peel. If the unit was about an inch or so wider overall, it would be much easier to get the pizza out. The oven does definitely make a better pizza and so quickly!

Works pretty well for what it is. He gets kinda close to a regular pizza oven not quite there. There are some things that feel a bit cheap and I wish there was a few discounts or things to at least get some of the accessories or at least order them if they’re not in stock also I wish it came at least with a pizza spatula.
