    Useful for Multiple JoyCon Sets

I am pleased with the controller grip due to its ease of use and clear plastic construction which is much more appealing to me than the solid black grip that comes standard with the Nintendo Switch console. I was worried that I would not have a USB-A to USB-C cable needed for charging the JoyCons in the grip as my other personal electronic devices are still back on USB-microB, but I was delighted to see that an A to C cable was included in the box (to both my and the BestBuy employees' surprise) even though the packaging does not indicate its inclusion AT ALL. If you like using the grip that comes with the Switch, and you want to be able to charge a second set of JoyCons in it, then you will like this product, like I do! I'm still not sure why the JoyCon grips come with a loop for attaching what I can only assume would be a wrist strap like the ones on the JoyCons since no strap is included with this grip or the one with the console, but it doesn't really make much difference to me.

When it comes to a new system, you always want to make sure you have all the accessories you'll need and possibly even get some accessories that maybe aren't needed but improve the quality of life. The latter is where the Charging Grip fits. The Charging Grip isn't necessary but it has the potential to improve the overall experience. The problem with it though is is outside of letting you charge your Joycons, it doesn't do anything else special. To add to that, Switch comes with basic grip already and the Joycons last about 20 hours on a single charge. Furthermore, unless you're playing exclusively on the TV and don't own a Pro controller, have a second person who actively plays with you, and/or can't remember to attach the Joycons onto the system, it's usefulness goes down significantly. I personally use the Switch portable half the time, I have a Pro controller, and I keep the Joycons attached unless I have somebody else over that wants to play, so this has been a pretty useless purchase for me. Maybe down the road I'll get more use from it, but, so far, I can't recall charging my Joycons using this. A word to the wise would be stick with grip that comes with the system unless you have a second pair of Joycons.

I hate anything to do with the joy con controllers. They are overpriced and feel funny with this grip. I try to use the joy cons for more than just Mario party, but these just do not feel right for any other game. They do work as they should with no issues. The pricing is insane for $80 joy cons, and $10 for the grips is just plain ridiculous. That's a $90 controller when assembled! My hatred for Nintendos pricing on their consoles, controllers, and games just gets worse with every day. They are trying to compete with top tier consoles Playstation and Xbox with less than half the power is just insane to me. Their overpriced products will be the end of this line trying to compete in a market line way above what they are offering. Get it together Nintendo, be you, not what the competition is. Make your own market and not depend on others pricing to make a profit.

Good quality grip that allows you to charge

This is a good quality grip that allows you to charge two joycons at once. The grip that comes with the switch doesn't allow you to charge them in the grip. I got this for an extra set of joycons, so I would have 4 joycons to play multiplayer games (either 2 with 2 joycons in this charge grip and the one grip that comes with the switch, or 4 players with each having a joycon). Well, I and my kids, don't find the individual joycons very useful playing multiplayer. So we have used the joycon grips most of the time, playing 2 player (each with a grip and two joycons). I recently got the pro controller and I wish I would have got it earlier instead of extra joycons and a charging grip. I played over 100 hours of Zelda with this grip and joycons, and I like the pro controller better. This said, this grip is nice if you play a lot on the TV as you don't have to keep taking off the joycons to charge them.

I've owned a Switch for a while now, and I can honestly say that I've never had my Joycons die on me. I thought that the Joycon's lifespan would be similar to the Switch's but that wasn't the case at all. So here I am with an extra Joycon holding controller that charges them if you so wish to do that. I mean, if you have a couple of lads or gals just coming over, maybe they bring their Switches as well, then you got an extra controller for someone who isn't too fond of the Joycons. And, it charges too! So really, if you have a lot of friends, this is a good pick-up. Also #joyconboyz

Best choice for 2nd Grip (right now)

This is your best choice for a 2nd Grip right now, because the $15 Comfort Grip is NOT made by Nintendo and is not the same as that which came with the console. It has design issues and doesn't feel solid like you would hope. That said, this more-expensive Grip feels exactly the same as the console-included controller. Just to be clear, there is no built-in battery (for $15 more than the alternative, you would figure they might design it with extra battery life, but not the case). The only difference is it has a USB receiver (USB-C, I think, but could be wrong) that connects to the console STAND (not the actual console for on-the-go) via 3-foot-long cord for charging. Not the best design for charging, but it's a solid controller and I've never run out of battery during long play sessions (probably 6-hours tested).

A must own for Nintendo Switch owners

The Nintendo Switch console comes with two controllers which are used simultaneously by one player. Reportedly, they have pretty decent battery life. The problem is, the controller grip that comes with the console does not charge the "joycon" controllers. So if you're playing on the TV with the switch unit docked and your controller batteries deplete, the only way to charge them would be to click them back in the unit and wait 3 to 4 hours or switch to portable (off-TV) gaming for several hours while they slowly recover. Your only other option would be to spend $80 on another set of joycon controllers and keep your spare pair clicked into the switch unit while you use the other pair, then swap accordingly to charge. Likely a design to get folks to spend more money on accessories, this particular accessory should have been included with the system which makes this item a MUST OWN for every Switch owner.

I was struggling to choose between the Joy-Con Charging Dock (as I have 2 sets of Joy-Con) vs getting this.. Ultimately, as I planned to get grip anyway, spending the extra $15 to get this one that charges is well worth the price... the Joy-Con already hold such a long charge and the initial set can just be charged when connected to the tablet. Instead of spending $45 (Charge Dock & Non-Charge Grip) do yourself a favor and just shell out $30 for this, whether you have 1 set of Joy-Con or even 2!! You really won't need the Dock and be 100% satisfied with this grip, even if you just use it for charging and nothing more. Can't recommend it enough. It also helps that this has the Nintendo Switch logo on it as opposed to the PDP grip which has no logo on it.

With an extra set of Joy-Cons, this thing is perfect. The only real change from the included Joy-Con grip in the box with the Switch is that this one has contacts and a USB-Type C cable for charging the connected JCs - Why the other grip was produced without the ability to connect the controller to power is beyond me. This one allows the controller to be used while charging and can act as a charging base for a connected set of JCs if another pair lives on the Switch. Just brilliant. Not sure why this isn’t the one in the box. It’s not a terribly complicated piece of kit.

A while ago now (way back when I first bought my Nintendo Switch console) I also purchased this fine item, the Nintendo Switch - Joy-Con Charging Grip (by Nintendo). I must say that I'm very happy with it. This item allows me to charge my Nintendo Switch Joy con controllers using an included USB charging cable, which I can easily plug in to the Nintendo Switch Dock. The item is really easy to use and I can even charge the controllers while I am using them to play games. This device really comes in handy if you buy extra joycon controllers.. because you can use it to charge them up.. while keeping the original two controllers attached to the switch itself to keep them charged. This is a very good product!

First things first, this is a Nintendo product. This is a high quality grip that is easy to use and handy to have. I find using the grip w/ joy cons is a very acceptable controller that will not hinder the gaming experience. My only issue is that I feel having a charging grip isn't a necessary feature to have. The joy con's battery life lasts forever on their own. Even if you travel w/o having the ability to charge your switch - which in turn charges your grips - your joy cons will outlast the switch's charge by a country mile with no need for a charging grip to help out. To wrap this up, good accessory, but paying extra for a charging feature that will, in my case, never be utilized.

I thought this was a bit pricey but it is definitely worth the investment if you have your Switch hooked up to a TV. It is also great to hold a second set of Joy-cons to play with friends. In my case it is particularly helpful since the Switch is not in an easy to access place and I play for extended periods of time so recharging the controllers by connecting to the console is not as practical. If you buy this, take into account that it comes with the USB-C cable to charge the controller but not with a converter to plug into the wall!

I ordered this item at launch along with the Power A Charging Dock. Well, since the charging dock was delayed I decided to open the dock and charge my extra set of Joy-Con. I haven't really used the charging grip since that first day. I'm hoping once Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is released that I'll have more of a use for this accessory. I did try using the Charging Grip during the Splatoon Global Test Fire, and the controls didn't seem as responsive as the Pro Controller. It's possible that it was the beta test itself, but after two turf wars I had to go back to the Pro. I think once I get the charging dock, I probably won't be using the Charging Grip on a regular basis.

    Unnecessary

Nothing wrong with the product but I think it's unnecessary. The Joy-con battery life is 20 hours. Even if you have one set from buying the console, you can simply put them back into the dock and charge. If you have two sets of joy-cons this accessory is absolutely unnecessary as one set can charge while the other is in the regular grip that came with the console. Unless you plan on constantly playing 4 player games on the go, you really only need two joy-con sets at home in any of the games available or upcoming, after that you can just buy a Pro Controller for a cheaper price and that holds a 40 hour battery charge and is far superior in comfort.

This attachment, not only should be included with the console at purchase, but it is completely self defeating in that the charge cable that comes with it is incredibly short. The point of this attachment should be to help avoid the interruption of play due to a controller battery dying. Additionally the joy cons used outside of being attached to the console are far better set to be held individually in each hand. The console comes with a non charging grip like this that just as useful because no one wants to sit 2 feet from their tv to play. Don't waste your money, save an extra $40 and buy a pro controller.

This should have been in the original packaging for the Switch, but instead we get one that doesn’t charge in the box. Anyway, be aware that this doesn’t have any built-in battery to charge the units; rather, it adds a USB-C port to the top of the mount to charge while you play. It is also a different material than the non-charging unit for some reason, which I’m not a huge fan of. Nevertheless, this is very useful if you want to play for extended periods of time with the Switch connected to a TV or otherwise separated from the controllers.

This is basically the same joycon holder that came with the switch, with the added bonus that you can charge the joycons as you play. I've never really had an issue with joycons running out of battery since I've always just plugged the ones I have back into the switch when I'm done (granted I only have the pair that came with the switch). It is mildly infuriating that this isn't the set that came with the switch from the start, but I guess that's another conversation. I can definitely see this coming in useful for people who have multiple sets of joycons and don't have a charging base for them!

Originally I was worried about my Joycons running out of power so I decided to grab this. In all honesty, I feel like I really shouldn't have bought it because my Joycons have never died, thus making this product collect dust on my shelves. It does do it's job as a Joycon charger for when you want to play on tv mode or play the Switch on it's kickstand. Like the grips that comes with the Switch it has an awesome grip so that may be another positive. I only recommend this to anyone who, for some reason, doesn't charge their Joycons or for anyone who wants to charge them while playing in the two earlier mentioned playing options.

The Nintendo Switch comes with several accessories for its Joy-Con controllers. Included is the useful Joy-Con grip, a plastic shell that holds both included Joy-Cons so you can use them like a conventional gamepad. It feels comfortable, but you can't charge the Joy-Cons while you're using it; for that, you need to connect them to the Switch itself. If you want to keep playing while the Switch in its dock, you need to get the optional $29.99 Joy-Con Charging Grip. It's useful, but it's the type of utility that should have simply been included with the Switch itself.

How do I even talk about this? This is exactly what it says it is and does exactly what it says it does so in that regard I'd say it's just a bit expensive considering it doesn't come with its own battery to add just a way to charge while in a grip. But the real thing is: why didn't Nintendo just include this style grip with the system? So taking both things into account I'd say 3 stars is about right. You'll know if you want to spend $30 on this. If it were much cheaper / on sale, I'd say yeah, sure, it's way more convenient than that other literal piece of plastic.
