I wanted to buy my kids a video game and the Nintendo Wii U was just the best option. Easy to set up and navigate and it is great for the whole family. I love the fact that we can all play and have an awesome time together. I would definitely recommend this to all my friends that have kids, and even those that don't have kids. They can still have fun with some of the games for Wii U.

I bought the Wii U because Best Buy had it on sale for $25 off, and gaming consoles almost never go on sale. Plus, it came bundled with Mario Kart 8, which my kids love. I like the fact that the Wii U is backward-compatible with older Wii games and controllers. The Wii U gamepad also has a built-in screen, so we can play games without using the TV. Now, if someone is watching TV or playing on the PS3 or Xbox, someone else can play the Wii U at the same time.

Our original Wii was dying & it has gotten to the point you can no longer get new games for them. So we bought the Wii U as a Christmas 2015 present for our teenager. Our 16 year old had no problem getting right to setting it up & playing games. We have never had any other gaming system (like PlayStation or Xbox) so the adults are totally confused on using the game pad. But of course we haven't been able to even play with it since the teenager monopolizes it. Lol We are just very happy that all of our other games & accessories (like guitar hero & band hero) are compatible with the new system. The really cool thing with it is that since the Wii U is hooked up to our primary TV you can play the Wii U games on just the game pad & change the TV input so we don't have to listen or watch someone play a game the entire time. However, I took a star away because it only comes with the console & the game pad, no Wii remotes. The old remotes do work but for some games you need the motion plus remotes or the adapter to turn the old ones into the motion plus, which we do not have. So that means we will have to buy another set of remotes & probably another charging station (& the remotes are not cheap). If it had a remote in addition to the game pad (even though the adults do not how to use it yet) then I would be giving it 5 stars. Boy I feel old now! Geez

I absolutely love the Wii U. After seeing Super Mario Maker being played online, I knew I just had to get my hands on the Wii U. I loved that the games comes bundled with the console and includes an amiibo and helpful game booklet. For all the reviews complaining about the price being more than $300, I went on Walmart's store and wanted to check the price, and after tax, I think the Amazon product is like $5 more than Walmart. It's not actually that big of a difference. As for the Wii U itself, it is perfect. The console works well and I love being able to play games on the tablet while other family members can watch TV without interrupting gameplay. Even though a lot of the wii games do mirror content on the gamepad, I think that it is fine as it functions as a semi-portable Wii console. All of my previous Wii equipment is compatible, including all of the games. The Super Mario Maker Game itself is, in my opinion, the best game available for Wii U to date. I could just spend hours playing through all of the fun and challenging courses that people have created, and being able to make Mario courses myself is also super fun to do. The game itself has a great multi-day tutorial. It gradually introduces the various level design features day by day, without intimidating the user with a ton of features all at once. The amiibo, when placed on the Wii U gamepad, unlocks a retro mario feature of the game and is a fun hidden feature of the game. The game booklet also includes some neat tips on making game levels even better, and it includes photo examples inside. I have seen some complaints about wii gamepad range, but have not experienced any issues when using the gamepad in another room, even with walls, wifi, and wireless phone signals throughout the house. The Wii U mario maker bundle is an overall great buy, and I would recommend it to both experienced gamers looking to fulfill their desire to finally be able to design custom mario levels as well as someone who is new to gaming and wants to get a taste of what it is life to play mario levels. With custom levels ranging from super easy, to impossibly hard, this game offers something for everyone.

I was worried about the Wii U at first due to the gamepad, but it's actually really nice. You can easily set up the Wii Remotes and gaming controllers to work with it, though the gamepad does stay on. Not a problem, though. It comes with two stands for the gamepad, one that is just a stand, and a second that works as a charger. However, it can get tiring holding the gamepad for extended periods of time, so I would highly recommend investing in a normal controller. Overall, I am -so- pleased!

My son lamented the fact that he didn't have a game system and he said Wii was what his best friend had. I researched other game systems and thought this was the best family-friendly system that didn't completely break the bank. On our new 4K TV the Wii graphics are amazingly vibrant. He loves the variety of characters he gets and we have now bought accessories so we can do the sports--love the golf. Great fun for the whole family and very easy for our 7 year to use on this own.

To start, this console is great! Full 1080p graphics and the next generation of Nintendo brand games that are reminiscent of old N64, in a positive way! *I'd like to point out something important about this console that was the deciding factor of whether or not I purchased it... The only reason I bought this console was because after doing some research, I was able to confirm that the games I wanted, and most others, DO have the ability to be played WITHOUT using motion controls! Personally, I did not like the original Wii because it did not have the option for playing without motion controls. Now for Wii U console, you don't even have to plug in the motion bar and within the game options you can turn off the motion control for any individual controller. If you are into "Nintendo" brand games, which are the only games I will most likely buy for this console, then I highly suggest it. At 25 years old, most of my friends and family grew up with N64. Now we have the ability to play most games with 4 people while all sitting in the same room like we did as kids- something you CANNOT get with any other console!

Wii've been playing the Wii since it launched in its original version years ago. The WiiU is by far the best iteration of the console. Being able to take back the TV and let one child continue to play using the included Wii pad is a game changer. Up to 3 additional controllers can be linked to the system for up to 4 total players head to head. Buy it and get the service plan, if it breaks they'll fix it or replace it. Cheap insurance.

It doesn't matter if you're a gamer or not if you don't have one of these in your house, what are you doing?? Extremely easy to set up and play. Wonderfully smooth user interface, and the game pad was an excellent touch from Nintendo. The game pad it self should be worth $300, because it does so much, and on top of that they include a game. All-in-all excellent work Nintendo excellent work.

I bought this system for my kids (9 and 12) to replace the old Wii which had died. This is a major upgrade and they LOVE the controller with screen but make sure you keep this controller safe because if you damage it you'll have to purchase a whole new system (not available separate). So: Is your floor carpeted? My daughter said she does think that the set up of some games: multi player, levels, etc can be a little confusing so if you're kid is 9 or younger and not a die-hard gamer get ready is sit in front of the TV and be confused with your kids for a while... But once you play, all is great!

So far me and my partner have loved the Wii U! We got Mario Maker with it have been having a blast! A must-have for any gamer!

My kids (and I) love the original Wii. But while it was a great system allowing us to play games that got us off the couch, it had some shortcomings. The controllers were not suited for playing non-sports games (like Lego Star Wars, Mario Galaxy, etc.) and it was released in standard definition (something that disappointed me). But the game play made up for it. Now we have a Wii that is HD, you can get controllers that are similar to Microsoft controllers (but better) for playing non-physical games, and the standard controller with the screen really does add to game play for certain games. And as a bonus all of your old Wii games will play on it, and your original Wii controllers can synch to it as well. This is what an upgrade should be. You should not have to pitch all that you had before when you get a new system. They did this one right. And this one came bundled with Mario Kart 8. Wow - this is a more than worthy upgrade to the Mario Kart that my kids and I played for countless hours. All the color and graphics in HD are mesmerizing. When it first came out I thought it was strange, and wondered what the big deal was. Now that I have played it, I totally get it. It's Wii to the tenth power.

I like to play video games (I am 20) as does my 8 year old brother. The Wii U is a fun system but it has been out for a while and it still costs about the same as brand new xbox one or ps4 with a couple games. This comes with one game, Mario kart which is a good game but really old. I like the wii u, I like the games on it like donkey kong and legend of Zelda but it just a really expensive price for a console that came out 4 years ago. If it weren't for my little brother I would have just waited for the next Nintendo console to come out in 2018.
