Oh my god. This game was amazing! The music is phenomenal and Yasunori Nishikk stays true to the sound of the series. The Octopaths are all such great people each with a heart of gold. I have cried(a lot), laughed, and geeked out screaming at so many moments. The stories were engaging and left you wondering at times. I just started the final chapter involving all the characters but I know the game does not disappoint! It’s based on old-school turn-based RPGs so you have to GRIND. But it’s worth it if you have a love for the game.

Outstanding game through and through. The art style is truly one of a kind and brings me right back to retro game nostalgia. Great deal and comes with the steelbook, would buy again!

Octopath Traveler II for the Nintendo Switch is an absolute triumph that earns a well-deserved five-star rating for its captivating storytelling, stunning visuals, and immersive gameplay experience.
The sequel to the critically acclaimed original, Octopath Traveler II, continues the tradition of delivering an epic and engrossing narrative. The eight distinct characters each bring their own unique tales, weaving together a rich and complex storyline that keeps players on the edge of their seats. The depth of character development and the intertwining narratives contribute to a truly memorable and engaging role-playing experience.
Visually, Octopath Traveler II is a masterpiece. The unique HD-2D art style, combining pixel art with modern visual effects, creates a mesmerizing world that is both nostalgic and cutting-edge. The attention to detail in the environments, character designs, and dynamic lighting elevates the game's aesthetic appeal to new heights.
Gameplay mechanics remain a highlight, with the return of the innovative Boost and Break system. Strategic turn-based battles demand careful planning and execution, adding a layer of complexity that appeals to both seasoned RPG veterans and newcomers alike. The inclusion of new job classes and abilities enhances the depth of customization, allowing players to tailor their party to their preferred playstyle.
The musical score is nothing short of enchanting. The sweeping orchestral compositions perfectly complement the game's emotional beats and epic moments, creating an auditory experience that adds immeasurably to the overall atmosphere.
Nintendo Switch's portability shines with Octopath Traveler II, allowing players to embark on their epic quests anywhere, anytime. The seamless transition between handheld and TV mode ensures a consistently enjoyable experience, whether played on the go or in the comfort of home.
In conclusion, Octopath Traveler II for Nintendo Switch is a worthy successor that exceeds expectations. Its compelling narrative, breathtaking visuals, strategic gameplay, and unforgettable soundtrack make it a standout RPG title. Whether you're a fan of the original or a newcomer to the series, this game is a must-play, and it unquestionably deserves a perfect five-star rating. Square Enix has once again delivered a gaming experience that sets the bar high for the RPG genre.

Amazing game. It looks beautiful and has a wonderful soundtrack. The characters are great and had very interesting stories. I also did enjoy the gameplay and loved that there was vwry little grinding.

Octopath Traveller 2 had a lot to contend with going into its release. Fans of the original saw the first as a great proof of concept, but wanted to see if it could be taken further, while those who were disappointed by the first wanted to see the game changed enough to be as good as it looks (and it looks VERY good). Without a doubt, Octopath Traveller 2 delivered in every regard. Every aspect of the original is improved upon (with the exception perhaps of the soundtrack, though both games are phenomenal in that regard), from the updated combat system which now allows characters to use unique signature maneuvers to change the tide of battle, to perhaps most crucially, the story and characters themselves. Perhaps the most frequent complaint about the original Octopath was the lack of character interactions in each character’s story. Octopath 2 doesn’t quite change much in that regard, but it does have the characters interacting far more frequently. Characters will call out to each other in battle now, and of course, the travel banter from the first game makes a return as well. Side stories were also added to the game, in which pairs of travelers experience a unique storyline separate from their own that will ultimately have larger consequences down the line. Without saying TOO much, fans hoping to see the travelers interact in the story will definitely be satisfied once they reach the final arc of the game, so stick with it! For fans of classic turn based RPGs, and even for those who don’t have much experience with the genre, Octopath Traveller 2 is an absolute must-buy. Try it for yourself and see why the game is an instant classic, and easily one of the best games of 2023.

When I first fired up Octopath Traveler II, I was struck by how beautiful it looks — the “HD-2D” art style combines nostalgic sprite-work with lush, modern backgrounds. On the Switch, it runs smoothly whether docked or handheld, and it’s a visual treat every time I load a new area.
Story & Characters:
I loved that the game offers eight distinct protagonists, each with their own storyline and motivations. Some stories really pulled me in — the emotional weight of certain chapters, plus the way different characters’ paths occasionally intersect, kept me invested. That said, not all character arcs felt equally compelling; a few endings seemed a bit rushed or less memorable compared to others.
Gameplay & Mechanics:
Combat is solid and strategic. The break/boost system adds great depth: timing your actions to break enemies and then unleash boosted skills makes each battle feel tactical without over-complicating things. I also appreciated how, even if I loved one character’s story, I could still gather a full party from across all eight — offering flexibility and variety.
Pacing & Replayability:
Because each protagonist’s story is separate, there are times when the pacing drags — after finishing one character’s arc, you sometimes feel like you’re starting over with only loose connections between the next storyline. But on the flip side, this structure rewards replay: trying different characters with different moods, or making different choices, gives the game real replay value.
The Downsides:
Some of the “side stories” or smaller quests feel repetitive or filler compared to the main plotlines.
The game doesn’t always explain optional mechanics clearly, so it’s easy to miss out on bonuses unless you look things up.
Occasionally the story tone switches too abruptly (from lighthearted to serious), which can break immersion depending on your mood.
Verdict:
Octopath Traveler II is a gorgeous, heartfelt JRPG that delivers a unique experience with its art style, character variety, and strategic combat. It’s not perfect — pacing and uneven story quality keep it from being flawless — but if you’re a fan of story-driven games or want a great RPG to play on Switch, this is absolutely worth your time.

This game is a big step up from the original game. There are new stories and characters within the game. The soundtrack is well above the awesomeness from the first Octopath game. To me the graphics are a lot better than the original game head. I’m not knocking the first game down. All I’m saying is that this game has so many improvements from the first. This is really worth playing if you enjoyed the first game. I truly hope they come out with a third Octopath in the future.
