UMMMM who would return this?!?!
I’m so thankful I got this at a discount because it’s awesome. I rarely buy anything full price, but knowing now how much it’s changed my home experience, I’d probably buy it full price because it’s that worth it. It’s my current favorite thing to use while stuck at home. I used to see at least one movie in theaters a week. I almost feel like I can again when it’s movie night at home.
The only thing I don’t like about it is that it requires its own app rather than being blended into the original Hue app. Also obviously it works better at night if you’re using it in a room with windows like I am.
It’s intuitive, I love that I don’t need a remote to switch inputs. I just turn on what I want to use and it (usually) senses it and goes with it. If not, no biggie, it’s on my phone. I now have a ridiculous 5 lights synced to my TV and I have no regrets.
I was originally worried about how to hide wires when mounting my TV on the wall. Thanks to this, I only had to hide one HDMI cord in my wall to go to my cabinet, which made room for the other cords for the 3 lights mounted on the TV. Now I have everything hidden nicely in my cabinet below because it plugged into the sync.
It’s also great because you can label each item plugged in, switch, roku, etc. and you probably won’t need an additional HDMI extension, as it has quite a few ports to leave things plugged in and hassle free.

If you’re buying new and at full price you’re doing it wrong. I bought this as well as the gradient lights for a 65” TV as refurb items during black friday sale. The lighting, aside from leaving your home in a color glow, is extremely customizable and syncing with music or movies or games is completely immersive. If you supplement your theatre room with hue bulbs in the overheads and lamps in addition to your tv, the sync option does overheads like spotlights, flashovers for explosions, and accurate light source locations from the film or tv show you’re watching. All told it was a $500.00 investment for the hub, the sync, theatre tv lights, and 9 additional bulbs.

Pros:
-When it works (more on that later) it's AWESOME.
-Music mode is very cool
-Relatively easy setup on the front end
-Sleek design
Cons:
-CONSTANTLY blacking out the signal to the TV which sometimes comes back and sometimes does not and requires resetting. From what I can tell this is due to a some combination of Game Mode settings, HDR issues, certain HDMI cables and certain HDMI ports on the device and on certain TV's, refresh rates, auto-on settings, and on and on. The end result is a product that is highly unreliable and cutting out constantly with no surefire way to troubleshoot the issue. This is all INCREDIBLY frustrating. JUST MAKE IT WORK ACROSS THE BOARD!
-INCREDIBLY EXPENSIVE especially given that it doesn't work half the time. For $230 this thing should work flawlessly AND do my taxes, It works maybe less than half the time and my taxes still need to get done.
-No 8K support so NOT future proof.
Bottom Line: It's a $230 paper weight unless they get around to ironing out the issues which may or may not happen. Phillips should issue refunds for this brick. They should be embarrassed they released this.

So obsessed I buy multiple and get my klurb on all day and all nite! I purchase whenever they come in stock as many as i can as all my guests who visit are amazed at the quality, vivid colors, depth and how it simply gives your entertainment areas so much character! Only minor issue is the app should add more features that the 3rd party apps i use do! It also gets a bit redundant having to toggle between the basic hue app amd the sync app, needs merging!

This is my third hue sync box I think, if you enjoy movies, or TV that this is highly necessary, and once you purchase, one TV will never be the same until you purchase them for all of your TVs

If you have Philips Hue products, this item is a necessity to get the most out of your setup. The setup is as easy as pie. I’m a big Hue fan. I wish I could upload a video so you could see how amazing the sync box works when paired with a good setup. Buy it. You won’t be disappointed.

Really cool and on if you already have your hue lights. Way easier than doing the rasberi PI setup
I wish there was a way to reuse the cut strip lights from here with seems like such a waste of money to cut them
Please note that the device has a very hard time connecting to mesh network
that was the one of the biggest stumbling blocks. The app for you could be better but overall simple to use

I want to start with information I wish I knew before buying the product:
Does not support 1440p at 60 or 120hz. Works with 1080p120.
Does not support VRR/Freesync. (Even though it shows up on the Xbox menu, but the video will just constantly flicker and go to a blank screen)
Only 2 HDMI ports that support full 600Mhz bandwidth signals (Ports 2 and 4, marked as Dolby Vision ports in the app).
Supports ALLM, but only if you have a XBox One X/S or PS4 hooked up and active when the sync box first turns on.
CEC seems to be working with my Samsung Q9FN QLED. It auto switches the inputs on the sync box, turns on when one if the inputs becomes active, turns on the TV, and passes commands from the TV remote to the devices connected to the sync box. It does not switch inputs on the TV to the sync box automatically, and I believe it sort of works like the XBox where is uses IR for some of it's commands.
From what I've read in the forums there is no EARC support. At least there is no mention of it in the app or manual.
I bought the Geek Squad Certified Refurbished sync box and from what I can tell it looks and works just like new.
As for how it syncs with the light bulbs and bars it's pretty cool. I have another setup in a different room with HDFury LED strips, and the hue bulbs are much brighter, and more versatile. The lights can be configured to emit all kinds of color and brightness variations while not syncing to the TV picture. But unlike the HDfury LED strip each light can only emit 1 color at a time. I have 3 light bars at the top of my 65" TV and depending on the scene it really makes you feel like the ceiling is like the color of the sky in the video. Although, there is something weird going on with the algorithm that makes the center top light less saturated then the lights on the edges. Might be a firmware issue. I plan on adding more lights to better mimic the individual addressable lights of the HDFury LED strip.
Overall I am happy with the setup. For movie watching in SDR and HDR the ambient lighting really adds to the mood and immersion. And for regular HDR 4K 60hz gaming like on the PS4 Pro it also works really well, as long as you use the right ports. But with more advanced consoles like the Xbox One X and the upcoming PS5 and XSX I do not plan on hooking up those devices to the sync box directly. There is a Music preset in the app, so hopefully I can use ARC from the TV to synchronize the lights to the sound from the consoles connected directly to the TV. Although, unless a future update adds EARC support I might have to find a way to split the signal going to a 8K EARC AVR.
I say go for it if you can find a good deal for the box and at least 4 light bars.

This product is really cool, and there isn't really any way to achieve this other than the newest models of Samsung TV's that have the functionality built in. And it is too expensive, so the huge refurbished discount made it easier to swallow. But it isn't seamless. It doesn't work across VLANs and doesn't have an ethernet port (only Wi-Fi), which are frustrating. It's also picky with how it handles broadcast/multicast traffic. Kinda like working with Sonos. But the effect of having lights properly synced to what's on the screen is pretty darn impressive. The Spotify integration works well, as does the computer app. I had a problem where it just stopped being able to start an HDMI sync session and had to factory reset it using the instructions I found on the Phillips twitter: unplug the device, press the button, then plug it in, keeping the button pressed until the light flashes.

Works as advertised, had no issues setting up and the accuracy of lighting / colors from content are great. Definitely a bit pricey imo, but I tried the samsung hue sync built in app and it wasn't as precise as the hdmi sync box.

This is hands down the best thing you can buy to sync your entertainment to a lighting system that reacts and mimics it (Phillips hue). It makes movies and gaming so much more intense! Only downside is the lack of HDMI 2.1 support which means you can get the most of PS5 or Xbox Series X if you want to sync lights and run games at 4K 120. Small nitpick but since I have a TV that can do it, it’s a bummer that it can only do 4K 60. Won’t matter to most, but just needs to get HDMI 2.1 ports for future proofing and it’ll be 5 stars from me. But that requires a hardware revision, can’t just be updated by software

I have been wanting this since it first was announced and since the price was good on the certified refurb, I finally got it and was no disappointed! Worked perfectly! Setup was relatively simple and it actually did MORE than I thought it could. I thought the lights had to pass through physically so only 2-3 "play lights" behind the TV would work with it. I could use the entire movie theater of multiple HUE lights I had react to it - AMAZING!!!! Lightning, explosions and more just really took it to a whole new level. I love it!!!

I took a chance on a refurbished Hue Sync box after my previous sync box had died within about two years time. The light display and the syncing of the colors to the Hue bar lights and light strip are incredible. It perfectly accents the TV and matches the TV colors so flawlessly. It pulls off something you do not even see replicated in the world's best Dolby Cinema and Imax theaters. Yet, the issue with all of this is that this is the second unit that has died and the switching of inputs, especially with a soundbar or home theater setup, is far from intuitive. In the end, it is more hassle than it is worth and i can't see myself trying it for a third time. If this thing worked with ease the way it is advertised to, it would be a 5 star recommendation easy. It is incredible to look at, especially with PS5/Series X/Switch but it just isn't very reliable.

The Play HDMI sync box is ok if you are the type of person really into flashing lights. I thought it would be really cool, but honestly I barely use it and most people I show it to find it distracting. I would not buy it again, but it does what it says it does. I also had issues keeping it on my WiFi, but it may be my WiFi 6 router causing the issues with compatibility.

This works great, i had to buy because i saw the commmercial for the Hue Gradient Lightstrip and pre ordered it immediately in September only to realize that I would need this and the Hue hub to made the light strip match the display omn the tv.
Well these are normally are around $240 + tax, and the Hue Bridge is like $60 and the Hue Gradient Light STrip was $240 + tax so I tried top save money wherever I could.
This showed no signs of even being used and has worked ok. Not sure if its because it was used but I have a hard time connecting to it on the app to make changes to the intensity or brightness. SOmetimes takes day and ti have to reset it. Once again I am not sure if its with the hardware or the fact that its been used and recertified.
. Unfortuneately the Gradient Light Strip which started all of this then had the US release date pushed back a month so here I had all of the equipment but no lights, so I then found opened play bars and then nHue GO portable lamps so now I am invested nearly $700 into my set up and two months later still have no Gradient light strip. But thankfully this works and I get to have a light show around the room with my movies just not behind the tv yet.
Ok rant over!

When it works it is cool. It may be an operating error, but I am working through the settings. It takes you to the next level of immersion.
You need a Philips bridge and Philips lights (play bar, Hue go lamp, light strip, etc.). If you are using a receiver with it then you are limited to one HDMI port. The workaround is to use your ARC input on your TV to the receiver and plug all of your input devices into the sync box then to the TV's HDMI port.
