Love the Lamp and Hue System – Needs Tweaking

When I opened the package I first took out the instructions. The instructions are three steps, turn on your light, plug in the Hue Bridge and connect to Wi-Fi, and download the Hue App.
Could not be simpler to get the product up and running and only takes a few minutes. That said I find that the system is lacking in instructions and information.
That said, we love the light system. Will use the adjective “Fun” to describe our experience using Hue, as well as quite convenient. If you are kicked back on the couch at night watching TV and have several lights on in your room group you can simply turn on or off lights, or dim with commands to Alexa or with the app on a tablet or phone. If you are getting drowsy you can turn the Table Lamp to “Relax” or “Nightlight” scene to put you in the sleepy mode before bedtime. Love it.
Great fun when away from home or in another room to change the lights, to everyone’s surprise the first time. Friends saw our lighting system and went straight to Best Buy the next day to purchase. First thing the wife did was to go into the next room and turn off the lights in the living room on her husband.
When you arrive home in the evening you can give a simple command to Alexa and turn all connected Hue lights on throughout your home, a nice warm fuzzy feeling. If you are away from home in the evening or on vacation you can turn lights on with your phone app for security. After getting kid(s) into bed you can leave a light set to “Nightlight” and later simply turn the light off with a command to Alexa.
Hue does have some maturing to do with availability of information and developing the Alexa Skill Set further. The Alexa Skill Set needs to be able to manage lights by name in each group of lights. What I mean by this is that you can set groups up in the Hue App, i.e. Living Room, Bedroom, Kitchen, etc. and then assign names to individual lights within a group. At present I could not turn off or on a given light in a room (group) by name, Alexa will only turn all the lights on/off or adjust all to same setting. It would be great to command Alexa to dim light “one” in living room and not adjust any others. Additionally, have yet to find a comprehensive Alexa command set listing, which of typical of Alexa Skills.
You can easily manage all individual lights within a group or groups with the Hue App.
My experience with Alexa Skill Sets is that they are typically refined over time so I am confident that Alexa will soon have the Skills for managing the Hue system fully developed.
Another issue I have with the Philip Hue is that the company did not see fit to develop a PC or MAC based application to manage the system. That is a key gripe that I personally have with many of todays devices. We have computers running throughout our home, but I must go find an Android or IOS device to mange my lighting.
The lights are rated to a Maximum of 25,000 hours of use. If you use a light for three hours a day and reached the maximum possible lifespan it would be slightly over 22 years! My take is with typical use you will find the lifespan somewhere between 2-4 years. If the lights do have this life expectancy it makes the system highly cost effective.
The Hue App for Android is well done, easy to follow, easy to use and manage the system. Kudos.
The Hue system works well and has great potential for the connected home.
Torn on my rating of the Hue Lamp, want to give the review a 5 Star as I really enjoy the lighting and look forward too many years of service. On the other hand, want to give it a 3 Star review for lack of information PC/MAC software and the lack of full Alexa control. Therefore, in compromise I have given 4 Stars.
My family loves this system and we will continue to expand our lighting configuration. Knowing the quality of Philips products, I feel confident that Hue will continue to expand and mature into a marvelous system well into the future.
As it’s said the Proof is in the Pudding. When our friends saw the system the other day in our home they fell in love with it on the spot. Went straight to Best Buy the nest day and had it up and running that afternoon. My friend is not tech savvy and told me it was absolutely simple to setup and enjoy.
FYI: if you add additional Hue Lights to your Hue System keep in mind that the individual lights are not developed to work with lamps with dimmers.

Design
I was a bit surprised to find that Wellness Lamp by Philips Hue is just a table lamp with a white Philips hue bulb included. The metal base attaches to the frosted glass top with, what appears to be, small silicone "fingers" that hook the two pieces together. You can therefore pick the lamp up by the top and the bottom should not come off (but I would still hold on to both just to be safe). The frosted "lamp shade" provides a nice, ambient glow for the bulb inside.
Features
To use the Philips Hue Wellness Table Lamp, you'll need a Hue bridge to connect it to your network. The Hue app makes the setup process easy: just plug in the lamp and then open the Hue app and use the "add" function to find the light (it will show up as just the bulb). Once it is connected, you can set the table lamp between a cool white ("energize") and a warm white ("relax") setting. You can also adjust the brightness level as you see fit and make it part of "scenes" you may already have setup.
Please note that this lamp does not light in different colors (other than white) as many of Hue's other products do. However, there is nothing stopping you from taking a Hue color bulb and using it in place of the white bulb that comes with the lamp.
The lights gives off a nice glow and makes for good "mood" lighting. The light also gets fairly bright and can be used to light a small to medium-sized room.
Value
As this is just a lamp with a regular white Hue bulb included, you could probably achieve something similar by purchasing a Hue bulb and your own table lamp. There are no controls on the lamp itself (for example, no touch controls or dimming switch).

I hadn’t used any Hue products prior to receiving this light, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. The light itself consists of a wooden base, a smart bulb and a frosted globe. It is very simple, somewhat modern, but subtle in appearance.
I had to order and install a Hue Bridge before I could use the light. Be sure to note that before ordering this light. It also requires a mobile app, in my case from the Apple App Store. I had no problem installing the bridge, but it took a few minutes. Once the bridge was installed and updated, I was able to search for this light and add it to the Hue device list. Since the new Bridge is Apple Home Kit compatible, I was also able to add the system to Apple Home and control it from there.
The system offers control over brightness and color temperature. Color choice is from bright white to warm yellow. Brightness from full to nightlight.
The Hue app also allows you to choose from various “Scenes” that offer preset for color and brightness, The app also supports “routines” that offer support for home and away, wake up, sleep, and timer. I haven’t played with these too much yet, but the look like they offer quite a bit of flexibility. The lights can also be controlled by other apps as well.
It was a positive first experience and I will likely expand my Hue system now that I have the bridge installed and can just add components to the system.

Brighten Your Morning

The setup of the Philips Dimmable LED Smart Table Lamp was extremely easy. This was my first venture into smart home lighting. It’s a lot simpler than I anticipated. This product is a lamp with a bulb that can connect to a Philips Hue Bridge. Without the Bridge, you won’t be able to use the lamp. However, the app (labeled Hue on the iPhone) immediately recognized the bulb after pressing the add light option within the app.
The key feature of this lamp is that it is voice controlled. For this to work, you must set up Siri (on iPhone) through the Hue App. The process is rather quick and painless and it works flawlessly. Another great feature is the ability to have the lamp turn off and on based on GPS location. If you forget to turn the light (or lights, if you have several of these bulbs on your Philips Hue Bridge) off at you home, upon leaving your house, they will turn off for you. Upon your arrival, they will turn on if you’ve set up that feature as well.
The performance of this lamp is a great experience. Using voice control is very responsive and accurate to what you want the light to do. By simply saying, “Hey Siri, turn the light on,” the light will turn on without being near it. The app is a great complement to the lamp. Through the app, you can access pictures that you’ve taken. After selecting a picture, you can set it as the ambience and the lamp will do an amazing job at replicating the lighting in that photo you took. I took a picture of blue Christmas lights around my neighborhood. The lamp didn’t struggle at all matching the blue ambience in the picture and it gave off soothing and relaxing tones.
The lamp exceeds my expectations. I didn’t know why smart lamps were necessary nor how customizable they can be. It comes with pre-selected images for various ambiences but you can set you own with any picture from your phone. You can also schedule the lamp to turn on and off at certain times simulating a sunrise, facilitating the wake-up process. You don’t know what you are missing out on until you try one.
I highly recommend this product for people who want to add nice decor that can be controlled with your phone or voice. The lamps base and cover colors blend well with most environments and its customization makes this product a unique and welcoming piece of tech into any smart home.

Unique lamp kit

The Ambiance GLOBE is a unique lamp kit. In a world where almost everything is made of plastic, its neat to see a product that is made from organic parts.
First a stylishly hand made glass globe covers a Phillips Ambient bulb. This special HUE lamp allows you to set the mood via light. Restful, Alert, Concentration, Readings and more. The black painted base is turned from natural wood.
I was able to link to both the Phillips HUE hub, WINK and Amazon app in a few minutes. The app helps select the different moods the lamp can be set to.
I plan in using this in the bedroom to wake me via soft light this winter to simulate the summer sunrise. No alarm clock blast needed.

Lifestyle Lamp

Design/Setup:
Upon opening the box, there are instructions, the lamp, and a Hue Ambiance 60-watt light bulb. Setup was quite simple since all that is required is screwing on the light bulb and lampshade, plugging the lamp in and connecting it to a Hue Bridge (not included). The lamp has a modern design with white matte glass and a black wooden base. It does seem well built compared to other lamps of this size and the tight seal between the base and glass cover prevents dust collection on the inside. Overall, I appreciate the simple setup and like the design of this lamp, but since the design is very modern looking, it might not fit the decor style of every home.
Features:
What I like most about the Hue Ambiance Wellness lamp is that it can mimic a sunrise in the mornings and even replace an annoying alarm. This can be set up in the Philips Hue smartphone app. Similarly, warm ambiance lighting is perfect before bedtime. Because of this lamp, I have realized that lighting can make a significant difference in my morning and evening routine. Getting up in the mornings is more pleasant because I am gently awakened by sunrise-like lighting instead of being jolted awake by a loud alarm, and it is easier to fall asleep at night because I can have the lamp on a warm, dim setting. During the day, the lamp can be put on a bright white setting that is great for being productive. As with the other Philips Hue products, this lamp can be controlled with your voice (Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa, or Google Home required), which is an added convenience.
Verdict:
The Hue Ambiance Wellness lamp has made a positive impact on my lifestyle. I would encourage you to try it out for yourself to see how ambiance lighting can impact different activities and moods, such as waking up or going to bed. This is more than just a lamp. It is a lifestyle changer.

Novel, glass globe lighting fixture.

It may be fair to say the HUE glass ambient globe may be the latest novelty in lighting since the lava lamp. Since it can be programmed (via voice or smartphone or tablet) to change brightness and white color intensity. The mood in any room of the house can be set depending on the occupant's activity.
I found setting it to warm, soft glow is perfect for watching TV. Then, set to bright white when I am trying to do a task like sewing a button on my shirt. Then again for reading a magazine or book, the globe's color and brightness can be adjusted to your preference.
The glass globe is the size of a soccer ball. Small silicone stickers act like feet to protect your furniture from scratches. The only thing I had to do was unpack it and screw in the ambiance bulb. The cord is roughly 6-feet long.
Programming it into the HUE bridge through the app is simple too. ALEXA found it easily as a device and learned skill.
I have it set to a timer function in the living room so the lights are on when I come down stairs for breakfast and go off at sunrise.
Try the wake up function in the bedroom and wake up to the 'morning sunrise' Ala hue.

Modern Look with Modern Technology

The Philips Hue Wellner Lamp hits the mark. It has a simple, modern look but is actually far from simple. What you get in the box is a lamp dome that plugs into the wall and a light bulb.
The lamp can be controlled in several different ways: with voice commands through Alexa or Google Assistant, through the app on your smartphone or through a Phillips Hue accessory like a dimmer switch, motion sensor, or tap switch.
Control is not limited to turning the lamp on or off. You can use any of the above methods to dim the lamp, change the hue from warm to cool white, change the light "recipe" (i.e. different hues suited for reading, concentrating, relaxing, etc.). You can also use the mobile app to set timers or to control the lights while you are away from home.
The reason I gave this four stars instead of five is because of the expense of the product. The LED light bulb is much less expensive to operate than an incandescent light bulb, but other costs of ownership are more expensive. You will need the Phillips Hue Bridge if you don't already have one, which is a significant one-time added cost. You will also need a smartphone and wi-fi.
Another knock is that there is no on/off switch on the lamp or power cord so you can't control the lamp manually.
I should note that the bulb only gives you shades of white as opposed to the tons of shades of color that other Hue bulbs will provide. This is supposed to be a lamp for wellness, so the different shades of white are the best way to accomplish that.
Bottom line is that if you already have some Hue lights in your home and are looking to expand, this is a really nice looking product that I think you'll like. If you are wanting to just start out with Hue lights, you probably want a starter kit first.

Really nice smart light. You have to make sure you have the Phillips Hue central hub or you will not be able to use the smart features of the dimable included bulb. If you do, you can dim it, switch from cool to warm color, make a schedule etc. You can also add your Hue central unit to google home app to control it from there by the way.
The footprint of the glass stand is very wide. I was thinking on putting this on my night stand however due the massive size of the base, I just moved it to my coffee table on my living room, so consider that! Other than that its a nice light that I can dim or turn on while watching movies etc so I can see. Some people use it for light therapy but I haven't, no need, but you could. Great value with the included smart bulb!

This lamp is stylish, dimmable, and a nice addition to any room. It can be activated with voice commands, but I wish that it also had a physical on/off switch.
The bulb cover is easily removed with an innovative rubber apparatus allowing you to twist it on and off. The light itself is perfect to read by.
If you are looking to upgrade lights in your home, this smart lamp is a great choice.

I have chronic headaches and migraines, so to me this lamp is amazing. It can get really bright or very dim. I love the versatility of it and how I'm able to control it with my phone or echo dot. This lamp helped to brighten up a very dark room and is more powerful than it looks. Awesome lamp!!

This is an excellent lamp. The number of light hues available is outstanding and my ability to dim the light keeps my husband happy since it's on my nightstand and he invariably falls asleep first. I've also been pleasantly surprised by how much I appreciate being able to turn on the light when I head to bed - so I'm not bumping around in the dark to get to a lamp while my husband sleeps.
This light lost a star because it has no manual on/off switch. If someone in the house just needs to use it quickly, that isn't possible.

I ordered this light for store pickup in case I didn't like it but it is beautiful and made of nice strong frosted glass. It's very unobtrusive and works great on end tables where you don't want a tall lamp but need some lighting. You can also easily change the bulb to a colored one if you prefer that.

This la,p doesn’t put out as much light as I’d hoped, but the positives outweigh that one negative. The lamp is a nice addition to our bedroom when we don’t want the full lights from the ceiling fan but aren’t ready to be in darkness. He fact that it has settings for reading, relaxing, etc. makes it a good purchase. I wouldn’t have thought that the relax setting would actually be beneficial, but it is. Nice way to lay in bed when you’re not ready to sleep but need to just chill. The lamp at full cost is a bit pricey, but since finding the right lamp for the bedroom was such a chore the price isn’t so bad.
