The Philips Norelco 1100 series Electric Shaver is what one might call a no-thrills shaver. No battery (it’s corded), no turbo shave mode, and no built in blue tooth speaker or Alexa commands (would someone really want to talk to their shaver, anyway?). But at just under $30.00, it’s a very competent shaver well worth considering.
With the 1100 series, you get a cover for the tri-blade system, a power cord, and well, that’s pretty much it. Sorry – no carrying case. Due to a lack of battery, The black color is generically appealing, and it feels VERY lightweight… almost cheap. But the build quality is fine, and it shaves just as closely as some of the rechargeable models that cost three times as much, and is quieter than some costing more. A well-placed button pops the top open allowing for quick cleanings of the blades (or replacement when due), and when unplugged, it can handle splashes for that rinsing.
It’s worth noting that if you are trying this type of shaver and are coming from a hand-held razor or another type of razor, that Philips in their literature asks that you give this 3 weeks for your skin and beard to adjust to a new grooming system. They say at first, you may not think it’s cutting as close, or it may even irritate your skin a little, but again, ask for people to give it 3 weeks to adjust. I’ve known people who converted from a regular razor to a circular one who adjusted almost immediately, but also some who had to give it a week or so, so it’s worth pointing this out since again, it is in their enclosed booklet, and in my own use, I’m finding this to be true so far.
In an age where everything is rechargeable, using a razor with a cord can feel a little cumbersome. But lithium batteries wear out and are expensive. Given the fact this does give you a close shave for a low cost, it may well be worth considering this over more expensive options. My rating is based on what you get for the price, though I will knock off 1 star since they don’t at least include a cheap travel pouch for it (boo). Recommended for price.

So after reading up about this shaver I saw that this company tells you to give your beard around 2-3 weeks to adjust to its style, but I saw a difference immediately. I do suspect it may even be a closer shave as my face gets used to it. I initially thought it was the same as every other shaver I have ran through over the years, but a huge difference happened with this one. I usually get little blisters that look like a rash on my neck after I do my usual shave, but this was the first time I didn’t get those. To be honest, I think I still find the foil shavers still shave a bit closer, but this shaver does go on quite smooth, its easy to use, and has no vibration.
One other thing I found that I liked with the Norelco was the thin cord as I actually prefer thinner cords that don’t work against me while shaving. The best part about this is that there is no battery to charge at the end of the cord which is a definitive PLUS. One other issue I would say is a “con” is that there is no case. This is a more expensive shaver I’d say and I’ve seen cheaper ones come with a case, but that’s just a personal preference. It definitely gets the job done so I will see how it holds up over the next few months.

Traditional razor user unimpressed with electric

Evaluating this product reminds me why I’m not an electric razor type user. I just couldn’t get a close shave, and had to press firmly over the same area trying to get close to the skin.
My son gets rash with regular razor blades, and is a big fan of electric razors, though he prefers a rechargeable Li-ion battery, and other amenities like Turbo mode.
Unfortunately this unit falls flat for me. I normally wear a goatee but without the precision of clean straight lines I’m just not an electric razor guy, so don’t let my aversion negatively affect your decision on this product.

Brand response from Philips Consumer Care

Hiya, thanks for taking the time to write your honest review here. We appreciate your feedback on the features and functions of the razor and will make sure to pass it on to the concerning team. In regards to getting a close shave, we would actually recommend you to not press firmly but actually do the opposite. Only apply a gentle pressure which makes your facial hair stand upright and makes it easier for the shaver blades to catch and cut them. Gentle pressure also reduces friction between the shaver and your skin, resulting in a more comfortable experience. If you have any further questions, please feel free to get in touch via social media. We’re available 24/7 on Facebook (@Philips) and Twitter (@PhilipsCare). Alternatively, you can reach out to us via the contact page on our website. One of our colleagues will then try their best to help you further.
Hope to speak to you soon!
Kind regards, Philips Consumer Care

First of all this is a corded shaver, but it does provide a really nice clean shave. This shaver is washable which does make the cleaning easier. Overall not bad at all.

Finally- A shaver my dad would buy!

As a 67 year old man who is fat (- hey - it is what it is.) and has a flabby throat, I have a problem getting a close shave. I've used the "blade" system for years - 1 blade, 2 blades, etc. Still not a close shave and I had to keep going over a couple areas several times. So, I chose to only shave once a month. Grew the beard, then used a pro-style hair trimmer, then a blade in the shower. Obviously. not a good look. I had tried battery-operated and '"charged" systems, but I found them a pain. My dad's old Norelco was the best, but parts were obsolete. I wanted a plug-in that was inexpensive but gave a great shave. Well, try to find one. I DID!! The Philips Norelco - 1100 is wonderful. On my first shave, I hardly knew it was on as it was so quiet. Not like when everyone knew when my dad was shaving! It gave a great close shave. I then waited 4 days to shave again, Another great shave! Easy to hold, easy to clean, easy to reach those tough areas and easy to want to shave. I'm now allowed out of the house again (yea!), but with co-vid I'm not going anywhere!! But; my face is smooth! I highly recommend the Philips Norelco 1100 shaver! Us old guys gotta stick together!

Tired of replacing razors simply because the battery is dead, I bought this one. Sure, I tried to replace the battery on my previous Norelco, but I accidentally cracked a MOSFET, or something, and it didn't work out. Honestly, do I really need cordless? I shave in front of the mirror, two feet from the outlet, so...
Anyway, it works well and can be cleaned under the faucet. Assuming it holds up well, I plan on keeping this for a very long time. Frankly, I was shocked and delighted that a corded razor is still being made.

Quiet. Simple. Clean Shave. Corded so I didn't need to spend a lot of money on a battery I don't need. It's lightweight, but sturdy. I've used it every day for 10 months since I got it and it's still running like new. I like it.

I had always been using a cordless electric shaver. But this cord shaver gave me a different and good experience. I don’t need to worry about sluggish battery any more. Plus, the price is good, and it is a worthy purchase. It’s a good backup shaver.

I really like this lightweight Phillips 1100 shaver. It is inexpensive but still does a marvelous job on my face, which often has problems with electric shavers. The three heads are very flexible and get into the nooks and crannies that are hard to reach, and I can shave without feeling like I rubbed my face raw. My neck, for whatever reason, is very difficult to use an electric razor on. I almost always have to touch up with a traditional razor every couple of days, or I end up with a lot of irritation. The 1100 surprised me by getting a skin-close shave on the parts of my neck that a much more expensive other name brand electric razor struggles with.
The 1100 is not cordless, so make sure you are using it somewhere you're not worried about plugging it into a wall. It is relatively quiet, and you can hear it bog down while its cutting through some thicker whiskers, but it never pulls hair and does a fine job. It also does not have a sideburn trimmer or level adjustments, but honestly, for the price, you cannot expect it to have all the bells and whistles.
I like it because it is so light and easy to use. I take it when I travel instead of my cordless shaver because it is lighter and easier to clean. Just pop open the cover and shake it out, rinse with a little bit of water, and it is good to go. A great value in an inexpensive razor. I bought another one for my son, who is just starting to have to shave. Highly recommended!

Gives a good shave but the rinse it out to clean doesn't do the job as well as taking the head apart and cleaning with a brush. That is the reason I give it four stars. Suppose to make cleaning simple I guess - but not so much. I recommend it - but with that caveat.

Doesn't seem to spin as fast as my previous electric razors, but seems to get the job done. I like that it won't slow down with age like my rechargeables, but I do miss not having a trimmer on the razor.

I purchased this to shave my legs since it’s so much easier than shaving! There are better ones but of course pricier. For what I paid they do a good job and I will continue to use until I need a new one!

I prefer this over the Wet/Dry because I will always have power as long as it get plugged into the electrical outlet. The Wet/Dry version does have refined cutters which I like. Both are good.
