I am in my mid-70s and the Philips Norelco - Shaver 5500 - Super Nova Silver is MY FIRST ELECTRIC SHAVER. I have been using it every day for a little more than 2 months. Using the "wet" mode (with shaving gel) for 3-to-4 minutes per shave. I a get a shave nearly as close and thorough as I did from using a cartridge razor for 4-to-5 minutes per shave. The "dry" mode is good for a quick touch-up shave before a long evening, but I found that if I try to make the shave too close, my skin gets irritated. I get 12 to 15 shaves per charge, and the shaver clearly indicates when it is time for a recharge. So far, the only negative feature is the separate trimmer. I found that it does a poor job trimming sideburns compared to a razor. Perhaps if I had a beard or moustache, I would find it more useful? I keep my old razor (with a new cartridge in it) around to trim my side burns 2 or 3 times a week. It will take another 9 or 10 months before I know if the heads last a year as advertised.

I've been buying Norelco shavers since I was a young shaver (Many decades ago ;-) This is easily the best one yet. Smooth, close shaves and a long lasting charge. What more could an old shaver ask for?

For the price, this razor delivers a smooth shave. It is easy to clean, and the battery lasts several days.

This is the first electric razor I have had in a long time that really shaves my beard. Not only that, it is extremely easy to clean, and has an amazing battery life. I still have not had to recharge it since my initial charge, weeks ago.

I have owned several Norelco shavers over the years. Not as good as the old days, but still a good product. Takes a bit of getting use to based on other Norelco models. Battery life is pretty good and cleaning is as easy as always, rinse under running water and your done. Charging is easy as well. Overall a good razor.

This is my first Phillips/Norelco Shaver. Been using Braun Shavers for years. It's comfortable to use and shaves pretty close, but seems to lacking the power of the Braun Shavers.

Pretty close shave for an electric razor in this price range. Charges fast. Easy to clean

This shaver does a great job, is easy to hold, and can be cleaned by running hot water over the cutter assembly. You can even use shaving cream or gel with it which gives a very smooth shave.

This shaver replaces another Norelco my husband had that broke. The neck shaver accessory does a much better/cleaner, quicker job than the one that was attached and just popped out on his old shaver. He shaves every morning and he commented that this gives a decent close shave. It also charges much faster than his old model. An intermediate priced shaver, good value for the money.

There are many Philips Norelco Shaver's ranging in price all the way to $400. This 5500 model is a wonderful compromise and shaves as good as my 9700 model which was 3x the cost. The battery life is decent.

Nice shaved I use it on my head. It charges quickly and last about an hour.

Pros: Comfortable, Holds Great Charge, Easy to Clean Cons: Close Shave Takes Long Time, Trimmer Inconvenient. First, to be fair, I have used a Braun foil shaver for years, and this was my first purchase of a triple head. I have heard that shaver users tend to like what they are used to, so I may be biased. However, after hearing for years about how great the Norelcos are, I decided to give one a try. I was very disappointed. As I noted at the start, this shaver is VERY comfortable. I found it to be more comfortable than my Braun was. It really does just float over your face. Apparently, though, it floats so well b/c it does a rotten job shaving. I never used it it wet mode, as I bought an electric shaver for the convenience of shaving away from a sink. So, my experience is all about using it in dry mode. The shaver has 2 power modes, regular and turbo. The difference is the blades go faster in turbo mode, so you can get a quicker shave. I guess the regular mode is for when I want to really take my time and take as long as possible to shave? For the life of me, I cannot think of why I would want to take more time to shave than is necessary, so the 2 speed thing is useless, I always put it on turbo. I will say that the shaver really holds a charge and allows for multiple shaves, even when using it exclusively in turbo mode. However, if I want a close shave, I have to spend about 20 minutes going over and over the same places on my face. I estimate that it takes about twice as long to shave w/ this shaver as it did w/ my Braun. I have never used the trimmer, because you have to keep the separate head handy and swap it w/ the regular head. To me, electric shavers should be all about convenience, which that is not. It does clean easily w/ a simple rinse under water. To me, shaving is something I do b/c I have to if I want to look groomed. I don't do it b/c I "enjoy" the shaving experience. If you want to savor a comfortable shaving experience as long as possible, this is the shaver for you. If you just want to shave and be done w/ it, get a foil shaver, as they shave MUCH quicker.

Use it for travel mainly. Razor shaves pretty close on first pass long as you patiently rotate it on face as you go. So far, very satisfied with ease of use and ease of cleaning. Bit more power than your lower end ($50-80) range and also has that booster speed which helps in a rush. I compared two other razors (one lower and one higher end) and like this one better.

Order for Christmas and it was delivered on-time! And it gives the closest shave I have ever gotten from an electric shaver

By far my favorite thing about this razor is how easy it is to clean. The battery lasts long too. Only thing I miss is the pop up trimmer my last Philips had.
