I was in need of a new Blu-ray player at home (my Samsung Blu-ray player stopped connected to any computer). This one had good reviews on Best Buy, so I purchased it. It has worked great! I've used it connected to my mac and windows laptops. I built two computer's this summer and it worked great on those as well. Would definitely buy again.

I purchased this Blu ray drive so that I could play Blu-ray movies on my laptop when I was traveling. There is one huge problem with this drive...it does not come with ANY software of ANY kind to operate the Blu-ray player. In order to play Blu-Ray movies, you are going to have to purchase a media player software that supports the Blu-Ray format. I had to spend an additional $40 to buy a copy of CyberLink PowerDVD 16 in order to play movies. Once that was installed, I was able to watch blu-ray movies on my laptop, which has an HD monitor. The picture quality is truly outstanding, but the drive should have included software from the manufacturer. The second issue is the laptop has to be on and powered up in order to eject a movie from the drive. If the laptop is off or if it is asleep with the lid down, the blu-ray drive will not open to eject the movie.

I purchased an iMac and it does not come with a CD/DVD drive. This external disk drive is awesome. It is so easy to plug in and ready to use. I just don't have the time to spend learning a complicated system. It was so easy to put my music on the computer from CDs that I havereviously owned. And I burned a DVD of my son's wrestling events. I love this product!

I use this with my mac to "rip and return" blueray discs. Works just fine. There are a few tricks you have to add into the mix but they are all software. Overall, I'm happy with this drive and my plex library keeps growing and growing!

The small form factor and lightweight nature of this unit makes it very portable but it's durable enough to be tossed in my backpack without any padding. It's also powered by USB so there is not clunky power adapter to carry around.

USB 3.0 & the Pioneer name behind it. Reproduction is faithful and clean, no electronic background noises. Small enough for desktop, however you will need a longer USB 3.0 A Male to Micro B Male Cable to make the reach. Keep the short supplied cable for portability with a laptop..?

To get the most out of that gorgeous mac screen this is the Best Buy, the apple drive looks good but doesn't read blu-rays, this BDR-XD05S is straightforward, light and minimalistic design, the only gripe is that doesn't come with any software, try the free version of MacGo mac media player ...

I have been searching for an external DVD burner for my PC laptop. I wanted a USB 3.0 burner to take advantage of the faster transfer speeds for backing up my DVDs for the kids to use. The selection for USB 3.0 DVD burners that are portable is limited. So I was thrilled to find this at Best Buy. My laptop runs Windows 10 without problem, using my DVD burning software. It is supposed to work with Macs as well, but I have not tried that yet. The burner runs fast and quiet. I am happy with the purchase.

Since Apple never made an internal Blu-ray Drive (or external for that matter), you need to get a 3rd party drive. The Pioneer drive is a solid working drive and reasonably priced. Be warned though, you'll need extra software (not included) to playback commercial Blu-ray discs.

This product was functional and did what it said it would do. However, I found difficulty with dvds and cds being read with any reasonable amount of speed. What bothered me most was the top of the drive. While we like things light and portable, I am constantly moving around from place to place with my equipment and the top cover was just too flimsy to me. I could see it easy being bent and unusable. This would have been better as a slide in product instead of opening up a light metal cover and clicking the media in place. It was also a bit too open and allowed the elements get dirty too easily. It delivered as promised when I first ordered it but I was not confident in the least that for the money I paid that it would withstand the test of time. I ended up returning it after I could see how easy it would be to break it.

I was hesitant at first regarding the purchase of this item. I initiated product research and reviews and constantly came up with above average comments and considerations. I'm glad I elected to purchase this DVD/BLU-ray player. The construction is quite good. The top cover opens up to reveal the disk and is made out of plastic however, the bottom chassis portion is metal and very well constructed. It's not as heavy as the Apple DVD player, but the primary reason I purchased this particular model is because it can play and burn BLU-Ray disks as where the Apple external unit cannot. I was considering to wait until Apple decided to release a BLU-Ray version but after much research and speaking with Apple, there are no future plans to manufacture one for release. This drive is very quiet and reliable. I have archived large amounts of data and quite satisfied with the unit's performance. If you decide to purchase this DVD/BLU-Ray drive you WILL NOT GO wrong. Also add to the fact that it's a Pioneer item and they have been in this industry for may many years. In my opinion, it's one of the best ones out there and it sells at a good price point!

I bought this for my computer to have the ability to play Blu Ray on my computer and it works well. It does not come with any playback software, so keep that in mind before you buy. Also if connecting to a laptop, you need two available USB ports, as this does not have its own power adapter.

Easy to install, and works well with Blu-ray movies.

Bought this unit to be able to burn Blu Ray Discs while on the road. It has worked very well for that purpose. Just after purchasing it my older LG Blu Ray burner, died, and now it gets used on the desktop for video burning as well as on the road.

This drive allows me to do anything I want with BluRays. The drive being portable means that I could also use it on whatever machine I needed to. I like that it was one of very few I could find that was USB 3 and the only one that I could find in my local store that was this way.

I was in search for an external DVD/CD drive for my macbook air. I was planning on getting the superdrive by Apple, but when i could spend $10 less, and get a Blu-ray burner included, my decision was easily made. The only negatives are: pop up cover; and you have download the driver online.

I both this to replace my superdrive for my iMac, and I couldn't be happier, especially for the price. It reads DVDs incredibly fast, a little bit slower for Blu-Ray but that's to be expected. A little on the loud side as well, but I can't complain on it's function!
