This Blu Ray Drive is fantastic! It’s sleek and attractive and matches great with any Apple products as the silver is the same color as MacBooks or Mac Mini. I would definitely recommend this drive if you are looking for a fast, portable drive. It uses USB power, no AC power needed!

I've been looking for a Blu Ray burner for awhile, and this particular model works well for my basic needs. Allows storing large amounts of information on blu ray discs, while also being backwards compatible. Mac friendly

I got this when my internal lightscribe Blu-ray player was rendered useless on my laptop with the windows 10 upgrade. This connected quickly and I updated my software (Nero). This drive worked well. It also worked for an Asus windows tablet I have. Very pleased with this item.

Even though CD is getting phased out, I got this just in case someone wants to play or sing a specific song on CD, burn a DVD full of pictures, or even burn a Blu-Ray. This gadget is lightweight and only needs USB for powering up, not to mention it's compatible with Windows, Mac, Chromebook, etc.

A compact and portable drive that does everything expected in a nicely packaged drive that matches the Apple Macbook Pro and Minis very well, while reading and writing all disc types available today. What more can be desired as it performs as expected.

Pioneer 8X blue ray DVD writer is an amazing drive which is fast and quiet. It connects quickly to the device and is compatible both with Mac and windows. The installation is very simple and works well for all disc formats like CD, DVD and Blue-Ray

This replaced an ancient DVD/Bluray burner I used with my Macs that finally died. This Pioneer works fast and flawlessly. Its use for me is about 80% playing commercial bluray movies and about 20% burning DVDs. It will burn blurays as well, but I don't have a need for that.

    Excellent external Blu-ray burner

Pioneer's BDR-XD05S external drive is a quality burner at relatively inexpensive selling point. I've used it primarily as a Blu-ray player for my Mac since Apple's own SuperDrive doesn't support the Blu-ray format due to the company's stance on it. However, there are workarounds to burn content to Blu-ray on Macs.

This is in addition to my LG recorder and it is much easier and faster to use. I would recommend it to anyone looking to record video or data to Blu-ray media. There are even discs available for archival storage that claim to last 100 years. Of course, none have been tested that long yet.

I use this with a 2015 MacBook Pro and it works great for reading CDs, DVDs, and Blu Rays. Burnt a DVD with it and it worked great for that too. It comes with two USB cables in case you need more power, but I tried it with one and it worked good. I like the fact that it opens from the top.

Great buy, my son uses it on his new gaming laptop for watching movies and for burning discs for work. Quiet and fast. Only issue was that blu-ray software was an additional purchase, which the sales person said was included. We just bought and downloaded the software and ran great.

I bought this drive instead of the Aplle Superdrive. It is not super fast, but gets the job done. Recording on blue-ray disks was a breeze with software that was not included. This is a really nice drive, especially for desktop(blue-ray), laptop, and carry along.

I needed an external drive for my laptop, and the Pioneer Blu-Ray drive was in stock at my local Best Buy. It also had great reviews. It was simple to set up, is easy to use, and, one month later, it's worked beautifully with no problems at all. Great purchase!

Very happy with this drive so far. I especially like the fact that the door just pops up instead of having to deal with the front button and then ejecting the front door which tends to get stuck often. No sticking on this drive with the door etc. Very practical and slim.

I bought this to rip my movies for use with a Plex Media Server. I’ve ripped almost 200 discs so far, so I’ve had plenty of time to get a feel for the drive. It has a utility that allows you to set it in Performance Mode instead of the default Quiet Mode. When it works, it’s fast–I can rip a Blu Ray in about 30 minutes and a DVD in about 10 minutes. The problem is that sometimes it reverts to Quiet Mode for no apparent reason. When it does, sometimes the utility will put it back into Performance Mode, but more often you have to suffer through ripping a disc or two in Quiet Mode, which takes over an hour for a Blu Ray and 30 minutes for a DVD. It will then usually go back to Performance Mode, but the wait is painful. (I know, first world problems.) Even with this issue, I’d still recommend it.

Needed to free up space on my HD occupied by video. Didn't want to lose 1040 resolution (as with DVD), so I burned to Blu-Ray. Freed up 250GB space using 10 Blu-Ray discs and retained high definition quality! Affordable solution with no loss of quality.

It really does it all. It reads, writes, blu rays, dvds and CDs. I got this for the my Mac desktop. I am very pleased with it. I like that there is release feature then it is not plugged in. Also the top leading feature is better I think then the front loading.

I wasn’t expecting to like this drive as much as I do. The primary reason for purchasing it was to cut Blu-ray DVDs. It is quick and quite. I’d be happier if the drive was front loading rather than a hinged top. Other than that, a great device.
