I'm obsessed with following the plot line of games. If there are prequels to the game I actually want to play, my OCD compels me to play them. Bioshock 2 is much like the first, just you are playing on the other side if the good guy/bad guy divider. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with that. It's still a great game.

I did not buy this game on the day of its release, as so many people were complaining Bioshock series lost its magic in Bioshock 2. The Rapture city doesn't feel as novel anymore. But now that I have played through with it TWICE, I have to say these folks were dead wrong. Yes, the city, some of the villians and gameplay are similar, but that is why this game is labeled Bioshock 2 and not a new IP. Either way below are the pros and cons for the Bioshock2 PROS: -CHOICES, CHOICES, CHOICES: One of the aspects, gamers loved about the original is how you have to make choices in terms of litter sister throughout the game and how it affects the ending. In this one, they have taken a step further and improved this choice system. Not only for little sisters, but also for some other things you will have to make choices. This choices will affect the story (dialogues, cut scenes and ending) to a great degree and add decent replayability to the single player mode. -MYSTERIOUS STORY: The story is suspenseful. It is not as good as the first one, but is still pretty good and will really drive you forward in the game. If you played Bioshock 1, it is certainly a plus; however, certainly not a requirement. Even if you did not play the original, you will be able to understand most of it. -AMAZING UNDERWATER VISUAL ANG GRAPHICS: The city looks as stunning if not better as Bioshock 1. Better yet in this one you get to play UNDERWATER. While it may not sound as thrilling it truly adds great deal of feeling to the gameplay experience. -PLAYING AS BIG DADDY: Initially you will be somewhat confused, but this gets to be real fun. You can still use plasmids as in the original, but you get access to heavy duty weapons as you are playing as big daddy. I won't spoil much for you but YOU WILL LOVE THE SPEAR GUN :) -NEW WEAPONS, PLASMIDS and TONICS: In this game, you get access to all the cool plasmids from the original, but you also get to use some new mysterious plasmids and tonics. Expecially, if you decide to go for good ending, you will get some really cool plasmids. As for weapons, you will just love the big guns. Trust me on it. -NEW ENEMIES and BOSSES: I don't want to spoil it so I will just say big sisters will make you wet your pants. -FOUR ALTERNATE ENDINGS: Again refer to choices section -EPIC MULTIPLAYER: This game offers a very unique multiplayer. It was a wonderful break from games like Modern Warfare 2. The modes such as capture the little sisters can be fun. Just wait till you play as a Big Daddy. The power you get will truly be intoxicating. Oh did I mention you can use very different plasmids than single player in multiplayer mode. My only complain for this one was instead of focusing on multiplayer, they should have just focused on single player and made it longer. Don't get me wrong , it will still take you a while to go through it (8-12hrs depending on how much you decide to collect). In summary, to me, Bioshock 2 lived up to the standards. It was enjoyable and has great replay value.

The second is as good almost better than the first. The suspense is still there and if you play like I do with the lights off wearing a pair of Turtle Beaches, you will definitely enjoy the game play that much more. Highly recommended for anyone that is looking for a good story and challenging game.

I love me some Bio Shock. I love playing the game in the dark, with the surround sound turned up. The game will get you every time. BS2 continues to impress me with the large levels, great graphics, and eric music in the background. Though, it is a little to similar to the 1st in my opinion. I feel like a bunch of the missions are repeated from the 1st. Still a must play for any role play/first person fighter gamer.

Video Games Are Just Amazing This Year!

It's hard to please a lot of the video game crowd being that they can tend to be a bit snobby about GAMES. Obviously I love video games but I'm not a snob about them. If something is fun, I will play it and usually love it. I'm not easily entertained but I can admit when something is downright amazing. Some people from the claimed that Bioshock in general is overrated only because it is such a universally loved game. It's like something can't be cool because it's too popular or something. Well I have to say this year is a great game for video games! 2 Of my faves (Mass Effect and Bioshock) have come out with sequels and both completely exceed expectations. With Bioshock 2 it is definitely and surprisingly better than the first. I think what made the 1st so intriguing was the fact that you were thrown into this new world you knew nothing about and it was just plain freaky! But now with Bioshock 2, you kind of are familiar with everything making it easier to connect with the game's storyline. It's like you're not so freaked out about turning a corner and having a splicer jump out at you because you're used to it and I think the creators used this to their benefit to focus more on story and characterization this time. Basically this game is catered to people who played the 1st and completed it. Which why would you buy this if you hadn't played the first ya know? Not that the story was at all bland or anything with the first, it's just this one is better in a more FUN way. The graphics (again the first were amazing) are also a bit improved and I wasn't sure about playing as a Big Daddy but really it's not that different than Jack, you just get a drill this time. I'm someone that depended a lot on my wrench in the first one, if this is also you, make sure you brush up on your firearm skills because you are going to need it. These splicers become much more challenging early on, especially when you are waiting for a little sister to get her ADAM and people are attacking you left and right. But don't worry it's not TOO difficult, more of a fun challenge really. I also am enjoying the missions so far as I think they're more relevant to the overall storyline moreso than the first. A few of the missions in the first kind of felt like they were just having you do things to keep you busy. But in this one you can kind of look at the big picture as to why it is actually important to participate and succeed at the missions. One thing that I've always thought that really sets this game apart from most others is the amazing voice actors they bring in! These actors are fantastic, particularly whoever does Sinclair's voice! Most games neglect these things but it's really an important detail because it pulls people right in and makes them feel like they ARE in Rapture. The Environmets are also much more eleborate where you have a lot more places to explore and find hidden things but it isn't overwhelming. Anyone who doesn't give this game a perfect review is probably nit-picking on something stupid like claiming the color of the electro-bolt plasmid is a shade liighter or something ridiculous like that (which it's not lol). If you're like me and love to play video games that aren't JUST about amazing gameplay but also about an amazing story with beleivable characters then go buy this game. It is worth every penny! ...Also on a side note, a lot of people complain about the first one's replay value. I can tell you this one especially with it's multiplayer mode will not have the same problem. As soon as I finish it, I'm def gonna play it over and over! It is THAT fun!

The sequel to one of the best games ever really delivers. As soon as you step into the suit of Subject Delta, you feel like a real Big Daddy. The game play is hyped up this time around. Battles are a lot more fast paced and interesting due to the introduction of many more kinds of traps, plasmids, and the different weapons. Other additions/improvements: the research camera is now a video camera, more levels of upgraded plasmids, the Little Sister protection adds a very fun and challenging aspect to the game. The only thing I didn't like about this game was the story. While still extremely creative and complex, I think the developers focused more on game play. Again, that's not saying the story is bad, on the contrary, it's amazing, just not as good as the first.

    Return to Rapture

I heard a lot about Bioshock 2 before actually playing it. The main complaint that kept me from playing it for so long was that it was too much like the original. Once I actually began playing, however, I was pleasantly surprised by how much fun I had with the game. I had been away from rapture for quite a while and it felt good to be back again. Adding to the fun is the fact that you are now a big daddy from the first game. Being able to wield a plasmid and a drill at the same time is awesome. The guns in the game are a blast to use still and setting up traps for splicers is as fun and pretty much as necessary as before. True, this game is a lot like the original. It's the same setting and your fighting the same enemies. What sets this game apart is the story and the context why you are there. Learning about the history of your big daddy character and how you fit in the world is a very interesting topic. The gameplay as a big daddy is also very fun and rewarding. Right off the bat you are charged with finding little sisters to help you harvest adam from specific splicer corpses in rapture. This is helpful because you need adam to upgrade your plasmids to make them stronger. That sounds easy enough but while the little sisters are harvesting the adam splicers are automatically attracted to it sending them right to your area. This is where setting traps and knowing how to defend yourself really pay off. This is something you'll be doing throughout the whole game while unraveling the story. Thankfully, it never gets old and is always pretty gratifying to see your adam count go up. The story in this one is also pretty darn good. Its pretty basic but i liked it a lot. I really like how good this game makes you feel every time you decide to do something like save a little sister. If you remember the ending of the first game after saving all the little sisters you'll have a pretty good idea of the feeling it tries to instill in you. The first game's ending is one of my favorites. Anyways, if you loved the first bioshock and still haven't played this one then you should definitley give it a go. It's a lot of fun and will bring back the good memories you had with the first.

    A game worth playing

A year has passed since I played the original Bioshock, and I've played many good, innovative games in the intervening time, so if I replayed Bioshock 1, my impressions of it may change; I will write a review, however, based on my memories of the first Bioshock. I bought Bioshock 2 not expecting to like it very much. The story in Bioshock 1 was well-done and complete. A sequel seemed unnecessary and an attempt to cash in on the critical success of the first Bioshock, albeit by a different developer. The gameplay was not changed much from the first, although there were a few innovations in guns and plasmids (or scientific spells). If you die, certain settings still allow re-animation with the Vita-Chambers, and enemies are still slicers and Big Daddies, although there are a few new slicers and one novel enemy. The story-telling was performed as in the first game, with tape recordings that your character finds laying around Rapture. The number of these tapes far surpasses what was found in the first game, almost ridiculously so. The first half of the game builds a mystery, and upon playthrough, although initially satisfactory, the storyline does not resolve the initial setup. Still, the gameplay is fun and where the story takes you is interesting and a nice juxtaposition of the political views examined in the first Bioshock.

    Great Follow-Up to a Hit

So far my experience with Bioshock 2 has been great. Making a sequel to a great game that had a wonderful plot and provided twists along the way was not easy to do. And I'd say they did as good as they could in this sequel. They were never going to be able to one-up the first one, but they did a great job nonetheless. The graphics are improved upon, but they were already great in the first. The story is good thus far (not great). The gameplay is really fun. I play on hard difficulty and it seems somewhat difficult. You have to plan out your attacks even though you are a Big Daddy and they take a ton of damage when you fight them. Even splicers take a ton of body shots if you have trouble getting headshots. So, that makes up for the fact of the regeneration after death. So, we'll see where it goes from here but I definitely am enjoying it. It won't grab your attention as much as the first did, but they defintiely did a great job of building the environments and changing up weapons and plasmids to give you a variety of ways to play this game. It's definitely a lot easier to get new plasmids and abilities by the amount of Ryan you can get fairly easily. In the first one, youreally had to think what route you wanted to go before spending your Ryan. But, great job, I am really happy with the purchase...

Rapture is back to entertain and scare you again!

WIth Bioshock 2, we get to return to Rapture once more, but this time seven more years have passed by wreaking havoc on the underground distopia and the years have had a dramatic effect on the splicer's overall appearance and they are more macabre and more frightening than ever! Still, what has stayed the same is the amazing gameplay, the amazing story, and it is still the most intelligent game you can find on any system. The game really dives into the idea's of Ann Rayn's books such as the Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged which discuss objectivism and the ideas of communism and capitalism and both system's inherent problems and benefits. In Bioshock 2, we get to experience this through the good doctor who is forming a "community" within Rapture and is constantly bashing Andrew Ryan and his "great chain" or in other words capitalism. The doctor and her cohorts seem to think that they are one big family and that Ryan's attempts to create a society without the inherent morals and ethics of religion, government, and to a different extent, communism, are flawed and utterly pointless. Still, you can see that Doctor Sophia Lamb's philosophy is fundamentally identical to Ryan's in that they both are after absolute power in a society that has been torn apart by greed and they both found vast amounts of opportunity in addicting people to ADAM and also controlling people either directly with the tonics and plasmids, or indirectly in Lamb's constant announcements which conditions her "family" to do exactly as she says. And in the middle of all this madness, you find yourself immersed inside of a world that never fails to impress and never fails to entertain. In Bioshock 2, you really are playing out a great story, a great play and you are the lead character. You are the Big Daddy, and you are a force to be reckoned with. In the last game, you barely survived, but in this game you are large and in charge and the experience is extraordinary. I must say, I was looking forward to this release more than any other game this year, and I was not disappointed. Bioshock 2 is not only the most intriguing and most interesting game you will find on any system, but it will make you think about society as a whole and make you consider what is really important in life. It really is an epic adventure.

For me this game had everything I liked in the first and improved on it, although there wasn't much that could be improved to begin with. Dual wielding plasmids & weapons, better tonics, stronger plasmids and multiplayer. Walking outside Rapture on the ocean floor and flooded rooms was something I wished I could do in the first game. Nothing can compare to the revelation in the first bioshock but this stand alone story was still well written. Multiplayer was really fun as well.
