the game is huge vast beautiful Konami is a dumb company period for getting rid of kojima he is what makes beautiful works of art and games! But God gave him another journey and no this was not written by a 12 year old boy I'm 23 and I love my imagination stretched by these vast open games and how they make you think they really have a lot to offer because there is no boundaries this game is off the charts!

I have played every Metal Gear Game ever made. This is THE best one to date. Amazing graphics, wonderful story and all the metal gear weirdness. :) It's nice to see a game with this much attention to detail. I was a little concerned when I first heard that this was an open world game, but they make it their own and it works wonderfully. I can't recommend this enough! If you want to go in guns ablazing, you can play that way. If you never want to kill anyone, you can do that as well...quit reading this and go buy it.

tl;dr explanation of rating: Phantom Pain would be five stars if it weren't for the fact its not finished (-1 star) and the story quality takes a nose dive half way through (-1 star)
The internet's general impression about MGS5: Phantom Pain is that it starts off great, but falls apart and reveals itself to be an unfinished mess. This is 100% true and proves to be Metal Gear Solid 5's biggest flaw.
The first chapter hits all the right notes. The prologue mission is incredible; does the perfect job of pulling the player in. Even the very first mission does an excellent job giving the impression of how amazing the game is going to be. The first chapter as a whole mostly lives up to what you would expect and want in a Metal Gear Solid game.
Then you hit chapter 2 and MGS 5 goes off the rails and explodes into a burning train wreck. The story becomes super absurd. Most of the new story missions are exact copies of chapter 1 missions with special restrictions. It all just falls apart becoming unsatisfying and inconclusive. The end product would have benefited if chapter 2 was scrapped altogether.
It would've been wiser for Konami to release each chapter individually at a reduced price instead of push an unfinished product. Its clear development was way in over its head unable to come close to meeting its goals by the September 1st ship date and they had to gut chapter 2 and cut a lot of content because of it.
In spite of this the actual game itself is mostly good. The play is great for the most part, but there are lots of rough spots the player will run into as they play. For instance Snake has lots of trouble getting over ankle high rocks without sliding back down them. The game's variable difficulty also tends to make it super obnoxiously difficult at times as well.
The other unfortunate aspect about MGS5 is that its secretly #6 in the series. Peace Walker was unofficially 5, and if you're familiar with the MGS series, they're like the Star Trek movies. Except its the even # ones that have terribad stories. Phantom Pain comes close to breaking this trend, but ultimately fails. Starting almost as soon as you run into Code Talker. He essentially ruins the story single handedly.
This is Hideo Kojima's last game with Konami. Konami also appears to be abandoning video game development. And, personally, I feel MGS5 is a last hurrah for Japanese developed AAA video games as well.
Overall, I do feel that MGS5 is worth $60. Despite its shortcomings, the game does deliver enough content to live up to that price. The first chapter alone takes between 40-50 hours to complete and is very good. Unfortunately the rest isn't as long or good.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is simply amazing. There is so much to do in the all new open world setting. There are so many customization options and weapons to unlock. The Mother Base feature remains fun and gives you more incentive to play the game more strategically. Graphics are top notch and the story is Metal Gear at it's best. The opening scene is one of the best experiences of 2015.

Metal gear solid 5 is itself a work of art. It sucks you in from the very beginning with its introduction of what happened to Big Boss nine years after ground zeros and immediately puts in the action of what Big Boss and his crews main objective is....revenge! The gameplay in this game is a very unique one. Unlike in previous Metal Gear games where its more of a linear tactical game the fifth installment to the series is full open world and you have the choice to be fully tacticful to get that S rank on a mission or go full on Rambo. The action in this game is so addicting that even the most repetitive missions in this game are amazingly fun every time thanks to full freedom of choice. You can have a buddy with you scout the mission area while you just recieve the target without any enemys spotting you or you can take out every enemy there with helicopter support. The graphics in this game is another plus thanks to the adaptable Fox engine. There is tons of stuff to do in this game and the fact that everything you do has a purpose is just great. The story and its charcters is so inviting and original you will feel like your in a movie. All in all the game is a must buy for 60 dollars. It really does deserve your attention.

This by far has been one of the most fun games I've played in a long long time. The attention to detail in this game is typical Hideo Kojima. It plays wonderful and the cutscenes are very Metal Gear Solid 4 and are beautiful like a movie.
Storyline takes place after Peacewalker from the PSP (or 360 HD collection/PS3 Legacy collection) You should be able to get the PSP game also on the Sony Market place iirc.
Anyways I do recommend playing Ground Zeros if you get the chance to play that first. Its a short stupid game but it actually ties Peacewalker and MGSV together and explains what happens despite how short and disappointing Ground Zeros was.
Metal Gear Online (MGO) Has been offline since I got the game on Day One. Still no sign of repairs yet. Thankfully I'm focused on the offline at the moment but if you are looking forward to playing online, you might need to keep waiting though this game really was built for the offline campaign.
If you enjoy Stealth and Action where you can choose how you want to play and enjoy an amazing storyline series. Please do yourself a favor and treat yourself to this game.

I never played a single Metal Gear game and I was sort of cautious in starting the last one. That being said, I bought this game anyway and began to play. Instantly, I was blown away. It's gorgeous, badass, hilarious, engaging, and overall amazing. The combat suits all play styles, from charging in guns blazing to stealthily crawling around enemy territory. Side missions are plentiful, sometimes repetitive but always worth it. This is an epic game for the ages. As far as the story goes, it's an original and very interesting, full of twists has two chapters (I highly recommend doing the Quiet missions). There is loads customization, from forming Mother Base to even putting an eye patch on your pet dog. It isn't quite an RPG, but the ability to build your own guns for certain missions and putting on different suits really makes it have it's own elements of one. You can even play as your own staff members if you want. I spent a lot of time just goofing off and trying to fulton a tank full of C4, then blowing it up mid air to destroy a helicopter. It's special moments like those that make this game so great. There were no glitches since release that I found and the frame rate is the best of any game I have ever played, being perfectly fluid with no drops of any kind. Finding creative ways to take over a base is always fun. It has an open world setting, which I hear is uncommon for these games. It has two huge maps in both Afghanistan and Africa, each with very different aesthetics and details. It made me feel as if I was actually there.
The online mode for the game is unique and amazing, with different maps and game modes to choose from. It reminded me of Uncharted's multiplayer, except much better and more defined. Customizable characters and classes are again available in multiplayer online, allowing for a different style of play for every situation. Definitely a game newcomers, regulars, and hardcore gamers can all enjoy. It's a must have even if you haven't played other games in the series.

I'm currently around 40 hours into The Phantom Pain, and I'm still not sure how the story will end up stacking up to other entries in the series. That being said, it's been a wild ride. One thing that is clear to me though is the depth of the gameplay. Mechanically the Phantom Pain is the most satisfying stealth game I've played. The control fluidity mixed with the RPG elements of building Mother Base have engrossed me thoroughly. Kojima's final Metal Gear gives you all the tools you could ask for to explore and infiltrate the lush open world maps, and make this an easy recommendation regardless of story considerations. Whether you're a Metal Gear fan or not, this is one of those essential games that anyone interested in the medium should try at the very least.

The game so far has been awesome, Im about 18% through the game. I haven't played any metal gear since the first one but this one is just crazy man.. The graphics on it on the xbox 1 really stand out, and the game play is really smooth.
The multiplayer has not come out yet, to me thats not too big of a deal seeing as the single player is great and it seems to take awhile to actually get through.
You can create different squads for your base, and level those up so that you can achieve different weapons and Items. You also have a team you can send out and do missions, its just overall pretty good.
Pros:
Good game
Smooth game play
Story line so far has been great
Crazy action
Good Graphics on X1
Cons:
multiplayer has not been released yet.

The new Metal Gear redefines it's tried and true gameplay by going open world. The graphics are top notch. The storyline is good, if not overly stuffed, this is Metal Gear after all. This game is Hideo Kojima's magnum opus. He goes out on top, as if he had any other way to go. The new base-running mechanic where you recruit new soldiers and divide them up into different units (combat, intelligence, R&D, etc.) is a big bonus. The game is extremely long too, but could be sped up depending on how you play the game. An average mission lasts me about 3-4 hours. After each mission the game completion percentage goes up about 1%. There are over 100 missions in the game. I have dug into the multiplayer yet so I can't comment on that.

MGS:TPP is an excellent installment in the MGS universe, you play as Big Boss who is the main villain in the widely loved Metal Gear Solid (1998), As big boss you are trying to rebuild your Base that was destroyed in MGS:Peace walker, The open world take on what used to be a one level at a time, works so well, you feel like a solder in this large world and you can take on missions however you see fit and collect resources for your base that you can actually visit make this game feel very immersive and makes it feel like you are responsible for everything and not just the game guiding you down a Liner path. if you love open worlds and the game letting you how decide how to run the show then this game is for you.

I tried to get back into Metal Gear after a long Hiatus. Beautiful game, very detailed and lots of cool things that can be done in the game. However after a week of playing it, I realize it's not really a pick me up and as you get into the harder missions you have to plan half a day out of your schedule if you want to do the mission right. So I ended up trading it back in. If they had more frequent checkpoints this wouldn't be a problem but the fact you can spend 2 hours on a mission, and fail and have to start all the way from the beginning - it's just not a realistic time commitment for me.

This game is clean. It's the type of game those who appreciate story and cutscenes over guns blazing action would enjoy the most, obviously. Kojima is famous for his 10 minute long cutscenes, but they really don't disappoint. The customization in this game is incredible, and the gameplay itself is smooth once the controls are mastered.
There are lots of little features that make this game one of a kind that I won't spoil here, but if you're debating whether or not to give this a try, I say go for it you won't be disappointed.

I preordered this one before reviews came out because it's Metal.Gear Solid and I was expecting the story driven gameplay I'm used to. I saw that it received perfect scores and was confident I was getting what I wanted. It's not quite as story driven as I was expecting but the open world nature of the game and being able to play the game anyway you want helped me to enjoy it more than I would have without that story element .Metal Gear has basically become a choose your own adventure and I have to say I love it.

I have an Xbox, my metal gear history goes like this, never played one, played sons of Liberty(the 2nd one) on the original Xbox when it releases with more content, coincidentally calling it substance.
Played snake eater(the 3rd one) when it was a dual combo that came out with the 2nd one on the Xbox 360. Never played the 4th one, which as I far as I know is exclusive to the PlayStation. I don't really care.
I like the series and I love the character, but having been introduced to the series with the 2nd one just ruined me. I went through it completing the game many times, not to mention going %100 on the VR missions because I read that there was a skateboarding mode. Which come to find out was possibly an Aprils fools prank or is just exclusively for the PlayStation. Again.
I honest to god believed that you could unlock akuma in resident evil 2 by beating the game twice in less than 3 hours with each character, getting an S ranking? And not using any herbs or saving. Not sure on the specifics but runs along those lines. I believed that when tips n tricks magazine released it in their Aprils fools edition in I believe 1999. I believed that until last year! When I looked it up because akuma ran through my mind. I was so mad. It wasn't like finding out Santa Claus isn't real, because this was plausible.
You could have access to many doors without keys you didn't need weapons since you could hadouken zombies in their face. Because both street fighter and resident evil were made by capcom or they own it or something I don't know I don't care.
Not anymore. They had screen shots of akuma in the game being all cool and stuff. And I didn't have a PlayStation at the time so I couldn't play it and as I got older it just subsided. But it was something that was near to my heart. Especially considering I read that magazine after a typhoon hit the island of Guam during my Christmas break.
Anyways I like this game it's cool.

I'm writing this as a non-MGS fan. In fact, I've never played one of the prior games at all. However, the general hype and potential that I heard as the game was nearing release caught my attention.
After putting in nearly 50 hours of time into the game, I can say it's truly a work of art. The graphics are stellar, the gameplay is near flawless, and the overall story is gripping.
If you're a fan of open world games and/or stealth games, you owe it to yourself to get this.

This game is simply great. The game play is solid, the graphics are beautiful, and it is a classic Metal Gear story. MGS5 has a ton of side options that will quickly become addictive. The game is filled with so many small details it is reminiscent of GTA5 in this regard. One should remember this is mentioned to be a stealth action game and it is here the game truly shines but also offers actual different plans of ingress to location the game feels quite multi-talented.
