I've been playing Ratchet and Clank since the PS2 and have always enjoyed it. Rift Apart is no different and it plays great on the PS5. The game play is smooth and the graphics are PC like. Also, there's a great story line with reference to the past but not overwhelming done which is good. This game is a great addition to the series!

Really fun, plays like you're playing an action adventure Pixar movie sometimes. One of the few games I have ever bothered to platinum it was so addictive. Love the haptics and the graphics, and the game designers did a great job of giving players incentive to change up their weapon selection. There's also a somewhat enticing new game + mode where you can upgrade weapons further. So why only four stars? The worlds are beautiful but very linear and not very interactive: corridors leading up to a slambang action set-piece (albeit always entertaining), the story is very familiar and typical "save-the-world-from-bumbling-villain" fare, and I don't think they did enough with the multi-dimensional premise aside from a few admittedly cool chase scenes. The weapon diversity was good, but nothing really innovative for the series. There are about 25 and many feel like variations (do you want a melee sentry, a shooter sentry, or another shooter sentry? A rocket launcher that explodes, or a plasma stream that explodes, or how about just grenades that, well, also explode? A blaster that fires in a spread or like a mini-gun or with bullets that stun? Speaking of, stun enemies by freezing them or turning them into topiaries? Etc.), so there isn't much need to use more than about 6 or 7 of them, and since all weapons are effective against all enemy types, few if any reason to diversify unless you're a completionist. Still, remains one of the showcase games for the PS5 in terms of possibilities for the console.

This game is an absolute blast from start to finish. The visuals are stunning, the gameplay is fun and addictive, and the story is surprisingly engaging. I can't recommend it enough! The worlds are incredibly detailed and colorful, and the character models are top-notch. The next-generation gameplay: Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart takes full advantage of the PlayStation 5's hardware. The load times are lightning-fast, and the DualSense controller features make the gameplay even more immersive. If you're looking for a fun, action-packed game to show off the power of your PlayStation 5, then Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is the perfect choice. You won't be disappointed! The Ratchet and Clank PS4 game already felt like playing a Pixar movie at the time. Rift Apart on the PS5 kicks things up another level. The level of detail on characters, the environment, particle effects - it's hard to imagine this kind of graphical feat being possible last generation. By now, Ratchet and Clank games have a well-established formula. You'll traverse various planets using a myriad of gadgets, while blasting enemies and upgrading a creative assortment of weapons. In terms of innovation, the weapons this time around have great distinctive feels, especially with the PS5's adaptive triggers providing additional functionality. There's a weapon that bounces a projectile off the same enemy with each press of the trigger. There's one that shoots drills underground to jump out at foes from afar. There's another that turns enemies into hedges. The weapon upgrade grind is much more forgiving this time, so maxing out your entire arsenal isn't much of a chore if you're inclined to do that. I felt that having maybe one or 2 more planets to explore would've been great, but what's already here is also plenty to explore. Planets are large with optional objectives and areas. They're quite varied from one another. The Rift mechanic is essentially a glorified teleportation device, but nevertheless fun to use and handy in combat and platforming. You'll switch between 2 characters who play almost identically to each other. As with the PS4 entry, Ratchet and Clank are quite bland characters. The series has taken on a wholesome tone that caters well towards a younger crowd but may disappoint fans of the crasser PS2 titles. That being said, you'll still feel invested in the characters, and plot events will unfold that make it hard to put the controller down. I just hope the obsession with Dr Nefarious dies down. It's time the series introduced new compelling villains.

The game is amazing and fun in terms of graphics, gameplay, and story, but fairly short. For that reason, I would wait until there's a significant discount before purchasing (it seems to be on sale quite often).
