This Ring floodlight camera is a major upgrade from the 2K Ring Floodlight Cam. The advertisement is a bit misleading—you can not see the man’s face as clearly as the promo shows but that’s expected since it’s an ad. Overall, it’s a great purchase. I’m impressed enough that I’m planning to buy another one for my rear and side entrances.

This camera works as described. Clear videos continuously recording with the upgraded plane. Clear image at night. Make sure you have a good Modem and Router to keep up with wifi demand. The reason why I purchased this camera was for the 24/7 continuous recording

This is my 2nd purchase on the Floodlight Cam Pro. This has been a game changer when someone is knocking on your door in the late night or catching critters in my yard. Would definitely recommend.

I’ve used a bunch of outdoor cameras and motion lights over the years and most of them are either dim, slow, or just too smart/complicated for their own good. This Ring Floodlight Cam Pro 2nd Gen finally feels like all the required features are present– bright, sharp, and predictable. It’s the first one where I don’t feel like I have to babysit the settings every week. It is a high tech camera that doesn’t feel overly complicated to use. The app is very intuitive and lends itself for new users. INSTALL/SETUP The installation is very straightforward if you already have a wired floodlight on a box. You shut off power, take down the old fixture, and this basically mounts in its place using the included bracket and screws. Once it’s physically up, the Ring app walks you through the rest: scan the QR code, name the camera, connect it to Wi-Fi, and then set up your motion and light preferences step by step. VIDEO & LIVE VIEW The big upgrade here is the picture. This is a 2nd Gen Pro with “Retinal 4K” style video and up to 10x zoom, and it really does show tiny details you’d normally miss – think license plates, clothing logos, or what someone is actually holding in their hands. Live View is exactly what you want it to be: open the app, tap the camera, and you’re watching your driveway or backyard in real time with almost no delay. Color night vision keeps things usable even after dark, so you’re not staring at a grainy black-and-white blob trying to guess what’s going on. LIGHTS/MOTION The floodlights are no joke, it is very bright. The two big LED heads easily cover a driveway, side yard, or garage area, and they come on fast when motion is detected. Bright enough that anyone walking into that beam knows they’re lit up, but still adjustable in the app if you don’t want full “stadium mode” all the time. Under the hood, it’s using Ring’s radar-based 3D Motion Detection and Bird’s Eye View, so it’s not just “anything that moves” like classic motion lights. You can tell it how far out to watch, which path counts as “coming toward the house,” and which areas to ignore. That means fewer random alerts from cars on the street and more alerts that actually matter, like someone walking up your driveway or cutting across your side gate. APP/EXTRAS Everything lives in the Ring app, which keeps it simple. The app itself , like I mentioned, is very easy to use. It has not glitched while I have been using it. The 4k feature is awesome but it is very dependent on the strength of your cellular signal to take full advantage. You can: – Turn the floodlights on and off manually. – Jump into Live View, talk through the camera, or hit the built-in siren if you need to make a point. – Adjust motion zones and sensitivity so you’re not getting messages every time a leaf moves. If you add Ring’s subscription plan, you also unlock scrolling back through your recordings and using smarter search to find certain events over the last days or weeks instead of just watching things live. Even without the plan, the everyday “who’s outside right now?” part still works fine. DOWNSIDE/WISH My one real complaint is that this is not a “screw it into an outlet and you’re done” type product. It has to be wired into your house power, and Ring itself suggests using existing wiring and even a pro if you’re not handy with electrical. If you don’t already have a light there, you’re either paying an electrician or doing more work than a normal DIY camera. Once it’s in, it’s great but that first step might be a hurdle for some people. OVERALL If you want a floodlight camera that’s bright, reliable, and shows 4K-level detail when you zoom in, this Ring Floodlight Cam Pro 2nd Gen hits the spot- easy day to day use, reliable live view, accurate motion alerts, and BRIGHT light coverage that actually makes you feel like the outside of your home is being watched and protected. I definitely recommend this product for those that want the newer high tech product with more app options than a regular security camera.

I mounted the Ring Floodlight Cam Pro (2nd Gen) Retinal 4K right above my garage, and the first thing I’ll say is: this thing feels like a serious upgrade from the standard smart floodlight cameras I’ve tested. Before I even screwed it into place, the setup process in the Ring app did a good job laying everything out clearly. It walks you through wiring step by step, shows how to secure the mounting bracket, and even has prompts that double-check whether you’ve cut power at the breaker — small but appreciated touches. Once the camera was physically installed and powered on, the app immediately found it on my network. Connecting over Wi-Fi was smooth, and from there I built out my motion zones, tuned the sensitivity, and set the floodlight brightness. The customization is instantly useful; above a garage you want wide coverage, but you don’t want every passing car to light up your phone all night. Within a few minutes of dialing things in, it was behaving exactly how I wanted. The star of this camera is the 4K lens, and the detail is legitimately impressive. The first night I tested it, I pulled up the live feed and zoomed into the far end of my driveway — not only could I make out clear facial details, but street signs across the road were still readable. Without the lights on, the low-light image stayed surprisingly clean, and when the floodlights actually kicked in, the whole driveway looked like someone set up a production shoot out front. It’s bright, but not harsh-white bright — more like a controlled, evenly spread beam that fills the space naturally. Motion detection also felt more refined than previous Ring gear I’ve used. Mounting it high above a garage door usually means you get a lot of overhead motion or weird angles, but the Pro’s 3D radar system locks onto movement in a smart, directional way. Instead of ten notifications every time someone walks a dog across the street, I mostly get alerts only when someone steps onto my actual driveway or approaches the garage. The radar mapping makes a difference — you can see the “path” of a movement in the app, which helps you fine-tune zones even more. Audio is solid as well. Two-way talk is clear, and the mic cuts out wind noise better than I expected. I tested it by standing under the garage after sunset and talking through the app — my voice sounded natural, not tinny, and whoever answered me on the other end said it was cleaner than most doorbell cams they’ve heard. The siren is loud enough to matter if you ever actually need it. In day-to-day use, the camera’s been dependable. The hardwired setup means I don’t have to think about battery levels, and the Wi-Fi connection has stayed stable. Nighttime detections have been consistent, and the floodlights come on fast — there’s no lag between motion and illumination. For a spot like a garage, that responsiveness really matters, especially if you’re pulling in late at night. The tradeoffs are mostly what you’d expect from something this powerful. The 4K footage eats bandwidth, so if your Wi-Fi isn’t solid, you’ll feel it. Installation isn’t as quick as a battery-powered Ring; you have to commit to wiring it properly. And the floodlights are extremely bright — great for security, but you’ll want to angle them carefully so you don’t blast the neighbors’ windows every time a leaf moves. Still, after living with it above my garage, I’m impressed. The clarity is miles ahead of standard 1080p floodlight cams, the lights make the entire driveway feel safe and visible, and the motion detection feels a lot smarter than the older Ring models I’ve used over the years. If you want a camera that can actually capture useful detail — not just grainy shapes — and you don’t mind a more hands-on install, this is absolutely worth it.

I can’t believe they released such poorly implemented product. The 4k camera quality is beyond awful. I can’t even make out my next door neighbors car license plates which are less than 20 ft away from my driveway. When you view the video feed it starts high mbps and then it drops below 1mbps. I tried connecting via 2.4ghz due to range and that didn’t fix the issue. The RSSI was 54 for me so the signal strenght is good that it should not impact picture quality. Ring engineers should really consider reviewing this product because it clearly wasnt ‘t ready to be released. Also I have fiber internet and the router is one wall away from the camera. They need to release a firmware update asap to address this issue. If they do not then im going to be returning this.

OVERALL Ring, a brand that's recognized by most, whether you like or dislike it. Out of the box, this has a quality metallic build with some decent weight to it. The light fixtures seem of a durable quality and the coat of paint gives it a finish that'll keep it looking good for years to come. If you've got an existing floodlight, adding this will be a simple process. If you don't, and you're not technically skilled with the logistics of wiring it in, get an electrician. Ring makes it fairly simple with all necessary hardware to get this thing installed. The Ring app provides a guided setup to get it paired afterwards. This made getting it connected to my network a simple process. By default, the initial setup activates Sidewalk, I had to turn off this double edged sword. SETUP & PERFORMANCE Once installed and accessible from my phone, I had the chance to witness the 4K retinal lens quality, and I've got to say, I'm impressed. Daytime viewing is sharp with great color accuracy. Nighttime viewing is alright. With the floodlight being mounted in my backyard and under a patio, nighttime doesn't get great moonlight so the area immediately in its vicinity is very dark. However, the remaining yard space that sees light reflecting off the moon is impressive. Zooming in on objects is ok. Max zoom gets somewhat pixelated. Panning around while zoomed has an annoying effect that generates the area surrounding the zoomed object as you move around. Oftentimes, you get a blank black section of the cameras peripheral vision that generates after a short delay. There really should be a landscape supported mode with this camera. It's range of view is wide, but the resulting video feed is always small. But maybe this is more of a Ring app issue. The floodlight is bright and supplements the cameras vision well. At maximum brightness, the light reaches about 15' with adequate clarity. Motion detection is an interesting one. Radar-based 3D motion detection is an upgrade from traditional pixel based motion detection. Zones can be defined for video detection and light activation areas. Birds eye view, while I feel my setup makes this feature less reliable, it still proved to be quite effective. It combines the visual image of the camera with mapping data you configure so it only detects within your specified areas. This gives your camera spatial context from where to look for movement, reducing false alerts. Two-way communication is clear with virtually no lag, making real time communication with visitors viable. Presets make quick replies simple ranging from greetings to simple instructions. They can be combined with motion detection to let detected persons know they are being watched as a deterrent. PROS & CONS * Great video quality and motion detection. * Annoying blank video when panning while zoomed in * Subscription first camera system that carries limited functionality without. * Cloud recording only. * Sidewalk is on by default, this should be an opt-in function with the level of privacy concerns it brings up. * Hardware quality is as good as it gets CONCLUSION If you're already invested in Ring products, this is a must have as it adds a plethora of functions integrating various Ring products under the Ring app to function in unison. It offers intelligent motion detection, great video quality, sports grade A hardware, and powerful lighting creating a more effective and user-friendly home security solution. The black video is slightly annoying but since it's a very short delay, manageable. As a subscription first product, with no real alternative options, the moment you stop that sub, the camera turns into a slightly better paperweight. Whether it's financial woes, security breach pushes you away, or supporting a boycott. However, my biggest deterrent is Sidewalk, it's privacy concerning functions and integrations/partnerships that opt-in by default. This is worth 4-stars.

Excellent spotlight, even better camera. Several years ago, my first video doorbell cam was a first-gen Ring cam's. I remember that it was a great cam, with a really clean, and efficient app. Over the years, the family gradually moved our in-home integration intomthe Nest eco-system. This was in no way an indictment against Ring, but having the one eco-system for all smart-home is nice. Having said that, when the opportunity came up to get this, I jumped on it. I am not dissapointed. Out of the box, the flood-cam has the expected high-quality that Ring has delivered from the get-go. I downloaded the app, and again, I was not dissapointed. It had a simple, but rich offering. Just as I remembered. Don't get me wrong, it was not the exaxct same, but an updated version. Clean, accessable, and intuitive. For my installation, I had an existing old-school eve mounted floodlight, so I already had the existing junction box, and wiring, so a ladder and a screwdrive was about all that was needed. While I am not the mandiest guy in the world, installation was simple. If you don't have the confidence to work with ellectricity, trade a friend, or local handyman a $20 bill and a 12 pack of beer. It should take no more than 25 minutes for most experienced handy-folk. Once installed, set-up in the app was a breeze. I have this placed in my backyard, and it is working great. I won't get into the techie stuff becasue that is easily accessable from both the Best Buy and Ring websites. But suffice it to say, this is a great choice, and I would reccomend toa friend.
