Works, but app could be faster and slicker

After having a nest protect hardwired into my small house I decided to add two additional smoke detectors in each bedroom for added protection but wanted something cheaper than a nest protect so this was the answer, only issue is, you can’t easily test that the battery is working with the app since it takes it a long time in my opinion to ding your phone that the smoke alarm has sounded. It still works but is a 15-30 second delay sometimes. My alarm company calls quicker than 15 seconds on a monitored smoke alarm, and that’s from it sounding to a person calling you to check on it. For what should be cloud based with no human intervention it should be almost instant maybe 2-3 seconds, but have literally tested them and the alarm sounds for 30 seconds before the app sounds the alarm. Nest is way quicker, litterly instant like a cloud based or internet based system should be. So that being said, the ability to install a cheap connected smoke detector is nice but I wouldn’t rely on this as your only monitored protection since it isn’t that fast in relaying the smoke alarms going off plus if your trapped in the house it doesn’t call for help like a good monitored home alarm system with smoke detectors would. Always have both in my opinion.

Basic Home Monitoring, Nest Protect is Better

After purchasing these to monitor two basic smoke detectors for bedrooms, I can say they serve their purpose in alerting you of a fire, but they seem slower than a Nest Protect after the alarm sounds for the alerts to come to your phone, and they don't actively test the alarm since they are just batteries. Great for getting into home monitoring but still think Nest Protect is superior and also a good monitored home alarm system to back it up.

a good & cheap way to make your regular smoke detector smarter. Wish it had an option to give ownership to your significant other/spouse.

After easily setting up this battery with the iPhone app, I plugged it into my smoke detector and it worked exactly as advertised. Excellent innovation.

Bad company behind this

I purchased a Roost battery, new in package, recently. The battery turned out to be a 1st generation module. Roost would not entertain any ideas of sending the module and retaining the battery to receive a 2nd gen module, or any form a refund/return/worthwhile discount.
USE CAUTION IF BUYING! I'm certain BestBuy would have only the newest devices, but if you receive a 1st gen device, IT WILL NOT WORK! Roost customer service confirmed that they switched iOT infrastructure and effectively bricked all original batteries, regardless if they are brand new or not.
My opinion: stay away from a company that doesn't value its customers enough to retain them. My nest purchase will be a Nest Protect.

Roost Smoke detector battery

Product works pretty good except it only lasted 23 months. My smoke detectors are powered by 120 v therefore the battery should have lasted longer.
The literature 23 months ago said it would last up to 10 years. No that the battery says it needs to be replaced and that will cost me another $15.00. This is not worth the cost.

I looked at many smart home products but did not want to pay lots of money to try things out. This seem like a good idea, to put a smart battery into a smoke detector. The set up was a bit weird, but I got the battery up and running in about 10 mins.
So far so good. I going to try it out for a month or so and buy another. one for

WORST PRODUCT EVER

TERRIBLE PRODUCT. The battery trips based on sharp loud noises. I own an Airbnb and I get alerts EVERY TIME there are renters playing music. I also get alerts any time any construction would be done. When I spoke to customer care they said that the product isn’t defective because this is the way it operates.
DONT BUY IF YOU PLAY MUSIC, USE POWER TOOLS OR JUST HAVE LOUD NOISES ON OCCASION.
