Overall decent camera
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Rylo 360, as the title suggests is an overall decent camera. It is truly remarkable that such a small camera can offer such features that Rylo has offered. All over the internet, this model is being called the (other brand camera) killer. The size and feature-set alone prove that. Upon opening the box, there is a battery, a (nice soft!) carrying case, and a handful of cables to ensure you will have no problems syncing the camera to your phone. Included is a micro usb, a usb-c, and a lightning cable. Also included is the charging cable (of course!). A 16gb microSd card is also included, which offers roughly 30mins of 360 degree HQ footage storage. Upon testing the actual quality in my home office, at first I was underwhelmed. Even though it was shooting instant 360 degree video, the quality itself was poor and pixelated. This was until I noticed that the setting was not on high quality. Once switched, the camera now provides much higher quality footage (4k!). This is why I docked one star. In my opinion, standard settings in this day and age should't produce pixelated images. It's just...Wrong! The actual transfer/sync of video to the phone via the (Playstore/Appstore) provided app was instant, and the variety of tools, aplenty. You can have the software automatically follow any subject in your video - giving a very professional looking result. The image stabilization is also TOPS! I have (very!) shakey hands at times, and with the Rylo, you would never have guessed it! And it does NOT sacrifice any part of the video. Before I forget, also included is a hardshell case (reminiscent of a full body, snap on phone case) - and a "stick" which aids even further in stability. In tinkering with the "stick", I noticed the bottom of it can be unscrewerd revealing what could very well be (actually, I'm pretty sure it is!) a tripod mount. So, Rylo has really thought of everything it would seem. So, is it truly a "(other brand camera) killer?" --- After tinkering - I would say, and give a resounding YES!

Very dissatisfied, never worked
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. In October I purchased 5 of these rylo cameras and upon opening 1 of the cameras it froze and never worked. I never thought that I could buy a brand new piece of equipment from a big time merchant and there are no guarantees that it'll work. It's like buying a brand new car only for the thing not to run and being told well you didn't get a warranty. I emailed the manufacturer a week ago and haven't received a reply.

Fun, But Needs Work
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Rylo 360 is a compact 360 degree video/still camera. First, I should note that this model does NOT come with an iPhone sync cable. Rylo makes another model that is the exact camera with the iPhone cable included (but no Android cable). I really have no idea why Rylo couldn't simply include both in the box. After all, we are talking about a $500 camera here. I attached the camera to the included case which provides a hand stick to hold it. I then installed the app on my Sony Xperia XZ2, plugged in the camera, and was off to the races. From that point it is pretty simple. There are two buttons on the camera, one for power/record and another for mode (360 or 180 degress and stills). Hit the record button and go. I walked around my neighborhood to get a sense of what it can do. Once back I synced the camera to my phone and watched the resulting video. Another important note is that while the camera does have a tiny display on it, it is purely informational and you cannot see what you are recording until you sync the camera to your phone. As the video plays you can pan anywhere in a 360 degree field of view by sliding your finger around on the screen. The first time you do it feels surreal. You can also run a picture-in-picture mode that shows the forward view at all times while you are panning around. There is also a pretty neat 'follow' mode that you can tell the software to focus on and it will automatically pan the image as it plays. Very useful if there is something you need or want to track. Overall image quality is decent out of the box on 'Normal'. The compression is noticeable as detail gets smeared. Colors also seemed a bit washed out as well. It is still a very useable image though. There is a 'High' quality setting as well, but I couldn't really tell any difference in the resulting quality. The software also enables to turn on and off the image stabilization and is also quite good. A real plus if you are going to use the camera more like a Go-Pro and take it on a wild adventure. The camera comes with a 16GB microSD card and that gives around 35 minutes of normal quality record time. Durability is an unknown. It certainly seems well built and it is very compact so taking it with you everywhere is a almost a no-brainer. The lenses do protrude from the case so I doubt it would survive a drop to a hard surface very well. Fortunately, the camera does come with a soft pouch case. It also isn't waterproof without purchasing the optional case. While I like what Rylo is doing here I would really like to see an improvement in the one function you buy a video camera for... picture quality. As I said before it's certainly passable, but could use some real improvement to make it an everyday shooter. The other catch is the price. Yes it is cheaper than the Go-Pro Fusion, but it is also missing the wireless communication, GPS, and water resistance too. I can't speak to the video quality of the Go-Pro, but for what Rylo is offering there are cheaper alternatives out there. At this price it moves from being a toy or casual shooter to bordering on a piece of pro gear. It's tough to recommend when you look at it like that.

Not WORTH THE $$$$$!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Product stinks on so many levels. Not true 5k, Does not support live stream nor bluetooth connection to a device. Requires a cord. Stabilizer is great, but Gopro 7 way more advanced. Rylo App is great! But camera is definitely not worth price. Samsung Gear 360 camera still more advanced and way cheaper!

Very cool way to take pictures
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Rylo 360 Action Camera There is a lot to like with the Rylo 360 camera. First thing I noted was the aluminum build quality and very nice packaging. Rylo gives you pretty much every cable you need. Mine came with the Apple connector in a separate box. Included with the camera box was a cable for USB type C, type A and on the camera end is a micro USB, also included was 32GB SD card and a small carrying pouch. I had no problem with the software installing and downloading movies on my S8+. The camera and software are very easy to use and the camera showed a run time on the OLED screen at around 35 minutes. It just so happened my grandson was having a birthday and this seemed like an excellent time to see just how much difference a 360 degree camera shot would be than all of the smartphone cameras that were being used. I set the camera up on a central location and just let it run. It was a lot of fun to go back and look at the movie. Not only was the birthday boy in all of the images but so were all of the other people in the room. It was a completely different experience than any other movie I have ever made. Later I took it on a walk around my house to take pictures before a repaint that is coming up. The image stabilization this camera can do is simply amazing. The software is extremely easy to use and you can pan in the picture or look at any individual frame. It is very powerful for being so easy to use on a phone. With this build quality and the uniqueness of the kind of pictures you can take make this just a totally new experience. When you go back and see things in the movie you have created that were not even the main focus of what you were shooting it is hard to explain. It completely opens up a whole new way to make and watch what you might have captured that was a complete surprise. Great build quality, fantastic image stabilization, powerful and easy to use software and a camera mount to put on a stand or selfie stick, there is just so much happening here. And one can only wonder what pictures you might end up with that you didn’t even know you were taking.

Overpriced junk
||Posted . Owned for 10 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Never worked well. Shuts itself off everytime I try to use on my motorcycle. Uses a lot of memory of course, only can modify movies on iphone or ipad, cannot use desktop PC. I had hoped it would be useful and cool to use, but it's really just junk.

Pretty decent 360 sport camera!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The camera is solidly built, but not quite as rugged as I expected. You'll hesitate picking it up off the floor after you drop it or it falls, hoping nothing broke. The video stabilization performs extraordinarily well for only being digital. The software app that really makes this camera shine does need some minor improvement, and would be nice to have a desktop version of the app, but overall, the editing experience is pretty smooth. You can pan, tilt, and set up auto panning shots all in post edit after you've shot a 360 video that makes you feel like you shot the video with way more expensive camera equipment. The image sensors do a decent job capturing the video, but once you blow it up on a bigger screen, it does leave a little detail to be desired. The video seems to be more processed, kind of sharpened more than it should be. The video stitching between the front and back lenses varied between acceptable and quite distorted, so keeping your subject angled correctly does matter. Overall, I think this is a great product, and is certainly on its way to solving some issues. It functions as a great compact action/sports camera, but if you're needing to capture video better than a consumer grade camera can, you'll need to look at a better rig.

Great 360 camera with awesome editing
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Rylo 360 Camera is a very solid camera, it looks lighter than it actually is, Very well built. Start off by downloading the app for your Apple/Android phone and connect using the supplied sync cables. The app opened immediately When connected to the Rylo and checks for updates. This is a very seamless and user friendly process. You just follow the setup steps on your phone. The unit comes with a battery (good for hrs.) and a SanDisk 16 GB micro SD (upgradable to 64+gb using Exfat formatting first) Also included is an Everyday case that doubles as a mini selfie style stick with a wrist strap. Upon unscrewing the bottom of the stick it reveals a nut that you can use to attach to a monopod or a longer selfie stick as seen in Rylos videos to get above the action. The mount will also let you use many (brandX) mounts. The specs review quite an awesome little camera, starting with 6K panorama, 4K video (30fps), a great 2.8 fixed aperture for great lowlight capture, Seamless 360 stitching, Stabilization, auto horizon leveling. The Rylo 360 is not water proof, I plan to purchase the water proof case, if for nothing else a nice protective feature for the dual lens’s (the lenses protrude from the camera so you have to be sure and protect them as they may get scratched when laying the camera down. It is pricey, but possible to replace the lens’s, included is a felt case for the camera, I highly suggest using this as to not scuff up the lens. After powering up and recording your video, just sync it to your phone (plug in the sync cord) The app start and loads the video, from here you can edit your video. NOTE: if you have an older Samsung or Apple phone Check on the site to see if you phone is totally compatible. My S7 does everything but EXPORT a 360 video for Facebook or YouTube. Bummer!! The Video I did was from a car. I could adjust the lighting, pick a spot and follow it, stabilize and finally upload the video. The focus was perfect throughout the complete video. Everything went smooth. Saving the video took about 10 minutes for a 5-minute video at 1080P. (if you upload to YouTube from a cell phone it will only load a 720 video, export to a pc then up to YouTube for best result.) The latest update provides you with the ability to shut off 1 side camera, like when you mount it on your chest for biking and skiing. A plus is that Rylo sends out updates quite often, they are listening to their users and keep the software on the cutting edge. I love it and can’t wait for my trip to Havasu Falls in October to film everything!!

I'm convinced - like it better than GoPro
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far I have been very impressed with this unit, including the overall 360 degree view capability in addition to what is really great video stabilization. I tend to compare this to my experience with a GoPro for which I am already leaning towards the Rylo as my go-to portable video device. I highly recommend this unit for those who are taking personal videos while in action...

Fantastic But Flawed
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was never really interested in owning an action camera but upon learning about the Rylo 360° camera with dual wide-angle lenses I was intrigued by the unique software capabilities which set it apart from other action cams. I immediately appreciated the Rylo’s quality packaging. You get an immediate sense that something special is inside. Opening the box reveals the Rylo camera, a battery, a charging cable, an android micro usb phone sync cable, an android usb c phone sync cable, a carrying pouch, and a very basic instruction card. The 16gb micro sd card was already installed in the camera. Packaged separately was the IOS lightning sync cable and the everyday case. I pop in the battery and as instructed I connect the Rylo to my iPhone via the lighting sync cable. I quickly find this cable awkwardly short at only 12 inches. I would have expected at least a 3 foot cable. Once connected my phone immediately directs me to the App Store to download the Rylo app. After installation the app prompted me that a camera update was detected. It downloaded and installed quickly. I was prompted to enter my email address to stay in touch but there was surprisingly no requirement to sign up for an account. Refreshing! The app tells you to shoot some content to get started. I eagerly comply. The Rylo is nicely constructed of metal. Actually it’s an anodized aluminum alloy. It feels solid and substantial. Really nice! I pop it into the everyday case which offers great protection for the camera and a handle to more conveniently shoot video. One controls the shooting options with a button on the front of the camera. The camera can shoot panorama photos, 180° video, and 360° video. I decide to start with some photos. I shoot about a dozen and connect the Rylo to my phone. The images download to my phone as a 360° panorama photo. Here is where Rylo becomes special because within the app you can now edit and manipulate images in a multitude of fascinating ways. However, I have to say I’m quickly disappointed by the image quality of the photos. The specifications state 6K panorama photo capture capability so I’m initially baffled by the bad photo quality. I then realize that those 6k of pixels are the total for a 360° image which in total is a lot of pixels but inadequate when viewing any 180° section of the image. I would describe the resulting images as unusable and unsharable. I nonetheless forge forward and shoot some 180° and 360° video. I do a few test videos in the back yard playing with the dogs and I anxiously get them loaded to my phone. Again, the app is where the Rylo surpasses the competition. The app is intuitive and easy to use. Rylo’s first remarkable ability is it stabilization feature which makes your amateur videos appear professionally shot on an expensive gimbal. The motion of walking or running disappear. It’s shockingly good. Next and equally impressive is the Rylo app ability to track a subject through the entire 360° image. You simply load the video and click on a subject within frame that you want to track and select “follow this”. The video will follow the subject throughout the video. I did not that at times it loses the subject at times but you can simply select to follow it again. My test videos of the me playing with the dogs were truly slick looking due to the tracking and stabilization. Like something out of a movie. I love it. Within the app you can additionally edit your video by trimming its length, adjusting its speed, leveling it, and cropping it. You can also tweak the image from light, contrast, highlights, vibrance, etc. Very nice. Just remember that if you edit it in landscape view on your phone then your final result will be landscape. Likewise, if you edit in portrait mode it will result in a portrait mode final product. While the resulting video looked professionally filmed I again found myself disappointed in the video quality. Again we’re talking a 4K spec for video but that’s for the entire 360° video. If viewed on your phone these images look good enough but when viewed on any larger screen the lack of pixels becomes evident. No doubt I’ll have loads of fun using the Rylo. The build quality is exceptional. The software is amazing. The videos are easy to edit and the resulting footage is astonishing. Unfortunately the video and photo quality are disappointing. In the end I’m ultimately conflicted about this fantastic but flawed product.
