Awesome Easy-Entry 360 Camera
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Rylo has created a highly-competent GoPro competitor, and they've just given DIY marketers a very powerful video platform. This 360 camera connects directly to your smartphone to transfer the video and see pictures; when it first connects, it sets up some sort of Bluetooth connection and from then on out, you can control the camera with your smartphone. Let me say that again because it bears repeating: You can use your SmartPhone as a remote (!) so you can set it up, run away (or hide behind some scenery) and then capture your 360 video/panorama. The battery life seems to be pretty good (they claim an hour of continuous shooting, my math indicated about 1.5 hours). The battery does not charge through the smartphone as far as I can tell. The camera charges using a standard USB to micro USB cable. It comes with a lot of different connection options (USB, USB-C, Micro, and Lightning) to connect to the camera's MicroUSB, the case does not interfere with the connection point. The battery is replaceable (WOO!) and the included 16gb microSD is augmentable (YES!). The images are sharp, crisp, and the 360 merge point is incredibly thin (somewhere around 1-2* total). The 180* high-res video is a nice touch and the panoramic photo mode is pretty sweet. One tap and the entire scene is captured. The camera itself seems to auto-stabilize to some extent and you can toggle between high-res and normal-res to extend your storage. You can switch off the camera's beeps and buzzes if you want, too. Two big negatives: - Audio quality is not stunning (especially in the "everyday" case - the case blocks a major microphone); it's not bad up close but you'll need to have an alternate source for your audio if you intend to do more than hobbiest productions. Hiding an audio rig in a 360 shoot is... difficult at best and syncing audio in post is so not fun, but that's what you've got. - The camera produces a LOT of artifacts in a low-light setting... the daylight and bright light quality is very high, but when you get down to low-light, you're almost out of luck. OK, so it "only" works via an app - major bummer, right? Heck no. The app makes viewing and on-the-spot editing easier, but you do NOT have to rely on the app to edit/manipulate your video (although you can) - the footage exports direct to your device and then can be imported into your editor of choice. The app itself is pretty handy for quick, basic edits on photos, but video editing is where it REALLY shines. Holy moly; the effects you can get out of the app itself are no joke. Yes, you can do the same thing on fancy desktop setups, but an all-in-one, stunning-video-content-ready-to-go-straight-to-Social-Media setup with literally about 5 minutes of editing? No way. This is a no-questions-asked purchase for DIY content creators who want cooler video content.

Good Action Camera
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I think this Rylo 360 camera is actually a really good camera. The images are clean and the sound is decent for an action cam. My only really big gripe is there is no Rylo software for your computer. Sometimes it would be a lot easier to be able to do what you can with the Rylo phone app with a computer app instead. Also you have to plug the camera into your phone with the provided cable to be able to transfer the video to the phone app so that is one more thing you need to have with you if you want to work on the go. Also it is nice that they include a memory card with the device, but I would suggest getting a larger capacity card as soon as possible as the one that comes in it can only do 30 minutes or so of recording. One big thing to note is that the video files that you have to transfer to your phone to work on are full size so if your phone does not have a lot of memory available (for those people with lower end Iphones or androids) you might want to make sure you have lots of free space if your going to be working with the app and the videos. Overall though this is a very good camera.

Great camera, questionable support
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My rating for the camera itself is four stars. It takes great action footage. Just put the camera on your favorite mounting location and record the footage. You don't need to worry about the angle of the camera. You can frame the shot in the app after you have transferred the file to your smart phone. The app is where it loses a star for me. The process of editing footage is tedious. You transfer the file to your phone. Then you can edit a clip from that 360 degree file. If you want to edit several clips together on your editing software of choice, you then have to transfer those video clips from your phone to your computer. The full files take up a lot of storage space, as well. My review for Rylo the company is one and a half stars at best. Their web store appears to be shut down. The purchase link from their website redirects here. Maybe they've got something in the works, but it appears that they are struggling. I hope I'm wrong, but I would not expect much support from them.

Amazing action camera
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This camera is the epitome of set and forget since you can use their amazing software to focus on where the camera is looking. With my other cameras, I was always worried about where I was relative to the subject I was recording, but not with the Rylo since I can change where the camera is viewing with the mobile app. There are a few cons of note: - Bad low light performance. - Battery life for me isn't that great. - The required cables are easy to lose.

DONT BUY THIS
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Don't buy this product. This company does not stand by their product and they do not have a warranty that is fair. We purchased the 360 camera and their Adventure Case. We made sure to use it correctly. The case leaked in surface water while snorkeling. ONE TIME and the camera is ruined. So we figured we could get Rylo to help. After all, they make the camera AND the case. But not, they don't actually guarantee the waterproof aspect of the case. AND to top it off, it's basically impossible to get in touch with them. Email and then wait. So yeah, don't get this. Get a GoPro. They are super helpful. and you can call them and they stand by their product - they have waterproof cameras so they don't require a case and have a 1 year warranty. Makes sense to purchase from GoPro and NEVER Rylo!

No Windows app and none planned for the future
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this camera in 12/2018 for a trip I had planned. The Rylo website did not have a Windows app available but stated that one is coming soon. Only an app for a Mac was currently available. I made this purchase specifically because of this and learned several months later that the company "decided to focus our development efforts on other features and product offerings". Now the only way to edit and view my videos is on my phone and spend hours transferring files back and forth to my PC. I would return it in a heartbeat if it was offered to me. Now it is just a camera taking up space and reminding me of the how expensive it could be to trust that certain companies would follow through on what they "Plan" for the future.
