Broken Ice Maker in less than 2 years

The refrigerator is less than two years old and the ice maker is broken. We have tried every recommended fix several times. Both Best Buys and Samsung are very unhelpful. Trusted appliance repairmen won't touch Samsung appliances and say Samsung parts are impossible for them to get. I will never buy another Samsung appliance!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice looking but lacks usability

This is one nice looking refrigerator however that is where the compliments end. The interior space is poorly designed, making it hard to fit some of the most simple food items. The lever for water has gotten all scratched up using only plastic cups, as well as it is always dripping water. I've owned other Samsung refrigerators and they were great, I just think the counter depth provided a challenge to great to overcome.

Read issue 2 for the main problems. I WOULD STAY AWAY if you like ice
Writing on 7/23/2018 - Purchased on 9/1/2016
We (especially the wife) initially loved this refrigerator. It's beautiful / well lit, keeps food cold and overall met our needs. I read the reviews regarding the some of the issues regarding proper sealing on the ice machine, but I figured we take GREAT care of our items and we weren't going to have that issue.
Issue 1 - about 1 year into ownership, we came home and found a small puddle of water underneath the fridge. Luckily, we weren't gone for an extended period of time and many of the things inside the fridge didn't go bad, but somehow/someway the fridge automatically switched itself into DEMO mode (which means it wasn't going to cool anything). We didn't have a power outage, and nothing tripped, this just happened. Fortunately this issue hasn't repeated itself, but I thought it was worth mentioning.
Issue 2 and the same one I read about in many of the negative reviews - the sealant around the ice machine – more specifically (I think) outside of the ice machine (IT) and between IT and the fridge door. Although convenient, if you really step back and think about it, having the ice machine housed in the refrigerator vs the freezer is a poor design. If there is ANY failure with any of the manufacturing of sealants or improper use of the refrigerator, you can easily encounter issues with your ice machine.
Anyways - about a month or so ago, we started noticing water leaking each time we would start the ice machine. We realized that little pieces of ice would get stuck between the ice machine and the door (there is a trap door outside the actual ice machine and the exiting portion of the fridge door, that I’m assuming is supposed to be kept cold enough through the sealant). Since for some reason the sealant isn’t sealing appropriately, it’s not keeping the “freezing” temperature needed and when you start the ice machine, thus opening the trap door, a good amount of water comes falling out. If that’s not bad enough, I also noticed that our ice was coming out more crumbled looking than ever before. I turned off the ice machine and took out the ice bucket. There were clear signs of melted ice and icicles inside the ice machine. I emptied out the tub and cleaned out all of the icicles and mess that existed. I dried all components and I reentered everything into the fridge. I kept the ice machine OFF for a full 24 hours to ensure that I can let it get back up to temperatures. Afterwards, I turned the ice machine back on, hoping that my issues would be behind me. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case and the entire problem has reappeared. After doing some research, it’s clear that the issue has to do with the sealing piece on the outside of the ice machine and attached to the door – letting in non-freezing temperatures and therefore causing the ice to melt.
I will add pictures in the coming days to show how you can clearly see water droplets around the sealant and how the ice is being caught / melted in between the ice machine and the trap door. This needs to be fixed!

Seems ok so far except drippy water dispenser

Everytime I get done filling my glass with water, the water dispenser drips for a little afterwards. The other thing I do not like about this fridge is that there is no room for half gallon containers without having to remove a shelf. Other than that, it seems to be working ok so far. Will report back in a few months if there are any ice maker issues.

ice maker died after a little over a year

My wife and I have been big fans of Samsung so we purchased this refrigerator in late 2014, and it worked great for a little over a year - then the ice-maker started having problems.
Luckily we had invested in a Geek Squad protection plan, so we were able to have people come try to fix the problem, which included water dripping out of the ice-maker, problems making ice and noise associated with the ice-maker coming from a fan inside the refrigerator.
However, the repair man would come fix it, and in a matter of weeks or months would break again. This happened over and over to the point where the repair man, who was great, basically said the product is faulty.
I wrote Samsung and they said the one-year warranty had expired, and that we were on our own.
Safe to say I did not invest more than $2,000 into a refrigerator so it would work properly for just over a year.
So I encourage folks to try another company when it comes to buying a refrigerator.

Defrosting Required-Shut Off Compresser Needed
Posted .

I think most of the positive reviews were written right after installation. This review comes almost two years after I purchased it. From month 6, the ice maker would stop working. I purchased the maintenance plan, so the service people came out and told me I had to shut off the compressor so that the ice can thaw!! Apparently, this ice machine creates icicles all along sides of the ice machine and clogs up. They said I had to turn the refrigerator off each time to thaw!! And the ice maker makes loud noises when the ice is blocked, so it's very annoying. I just don't have time to deal with customer service since it was over a year before I figured out it's a design issue, so I've been defrosting every two months and the taking out the ice tray the following morning to break up all the ice that was frozen over. Frustrating to say the least with such an expensive unit!!!!

Do not buy this refrigerator. After approximately the ice maker continuously freezes up and will not make ice. Tons of reviews stating the exact same thing. Samsung is aware of this problem but would take responsibility for the design flaw. Customer service sent out an authorized repair company. Total cost to get ice was $706. Samsung will not cover their mistake. Really? That is ridiculous for a refrigerator that was only a couple years old and pricey to begin with. I will never buy a Samsung product again due to their refusal to own up to their design flaw.

The refrigerator was okay but the icemaker is a piece of junk. Icemaker didn't work within a month after delivery. Bought it just as covid restrictions started and couldn't get service. I've been buying ice every week for 3 years. Had a local repairman work on it and it worked for about a month. I bought a Frigidaire last month from Best Buy to replace it. Hope I have better luck.

Purchased on 10-4-2017 have had nothing but problems with this refrigerator. Now on 3-10-24 unit is giving me compressor error code and has stopped cooling and freezing. Should have went with GE or Frigadare. Samsung is good with TVs but that is about all.

We have had this fridge for 3 years and have been very disappointed in it. The ice maker has never been good and would freeze up quite a bit. After owning it for 2.5 years, the ice maker quit working entirely. We had it repaired and it then worked just mediocre. Now 6 months later again, the ice maker is not working and the fridge is making a horrible noise that is loud and annoying. I've called Best Buy/ Pacific and Samsung for help as i obviously have a lemon and there is no support. I know i'm outside the warranty period but a fridge should last longer than 3 years! And the way they have handled the situation was more than disappointing. We are now buying another fridge and it will NOT be a Samsung brand. I have a 10 year old GE side by side for a second fridge that works better than the Samsung. Samsung makes great TVs but horrible refrigerators.

We purchased this refrigerator about 3 years ago. we liked its sleek appearance. However it turned out to be the worst refrigerator we have ever purchased. We had a custom home built and this is the worst part thing we could have installed in our new home. Just like others have mentioned the ice maker is a joke. It freezes up at least every other week and is a pain to get all the frozen ice off so the ice maker can start making ice again.
Also the other day we bought fresh seafood and put it on the bottom shelf above the drawers. Unfortunately the water in the bah leaked out and is now between the glass on the shelf and the plastic bracing. Because the glass shelf was not sealed i can NOT get under it to clean it out and our refrigerator smells horrible not to mention even when it drys up it will be stuck under the glass to see every time we open the doors. What and embarrassment!!!! Such a poor design altogether.

Worst Ice Maker Ever

I bought this refrigerator in 2017 and already had 3 service calls on it. They had to replace the ice maker once already. This past time they sealed the ice maker saying the warmer air from the refrigerator was getting into the ice maker and defrosting it just enough to make everything have a frost build up on it. The repairman said the these refrigerator were the worst. There you have it. I really had a hard time deciding on a refrigerator because I read all the reviews and I couldn’t find one that didn’t have issues with it. I refuse to get an LG because I have a LG dryer that broke a couple times. The repairman recommended Whirlpool. But since I bought the warranty I guess I’ll ride it out another couple years. Again, I bought this in March 2017 and already had 3 service calls on the ice maker. Please do not buy this product.

Fridge is good Repair horrible!

This fridge does a good job utilizing space. We diligently researched all appliances that would fit into our newly renovated kitchen. Best Buy had great service. Our salesman was very knowledgeable, very accommodating, and really made this part of our kitchen renovation a wonderful experience. We got all appliances from Best Buy, but the refrigerator was the only Samsung appliance. We somehow missed reading about repair issues with Samsung in our research. Within a few months of install it started making a very loud sound (like an air compressor is on in another room) after we open any door or drawer. We called Samsung. Repeatedly. Over and over. Each time we call we get a new requirement we have to meet before they send out a repair person. First, send a recording of the sound. Done, twice. Next, you must make sure it's level. If it's not level and a repair person comes out they will charge us as punishment. Next we had to defrost it. Again if they decide we didn't adequately defrost it we are punished with a charge for the visit. What kind of a repair warranty is THAT? First, we both have our own jobs and neither of them are appliance repair. Second, being told we may have to regularly defrost our fridge to avoid that sound would work if it was 1950. It is NOT 1950. (And it did NOT fix the sound.) Next, you don't tell us these things all at the same time. We have to call. And do our assigned repair task. And wait and call again. Then we get another assigned task. You know why? They want us to phase out of the one year warranty time frame!! This noise is a common issue and apparently their repair policies are notorious. We somehow missed that in our research. This morning I finally started Tweeting @SamsungUS. Had a response in 30 minutes asking for a slew of information. I seriously doubt it will be resolved. So now it's time to let everyone know about our experience. Unless your retailer has a different repair warranty/policy that does NOT include the need for Samsung to authorize a repair, then I would say skip this appliance. (We did Kitchen Aid on everything else, very happy.)

The ice maker went out which is a known issue for this make and model. Samsung won’t help unless you like to give away more of your hard earned money. You can do a fix for the ice maker as shown in some YouTube videos. The part will run you and extra $200 and even if you do the silicone fix...it will still result in the same problem. By far, the worst item I have ever spent money on and Samsung won’t back up the money spent which is pathetic on their part considering the amount of money they charge for this item. If you are smart you will look for a different product. Preferably NOT with a Samsung label on it.

We've had service technicians out 4 times due to a dripping ice maker. So annoying to have to leave a washcloth in the refrigerator door to avoid a puddle! Now the ice maker is not making ice and is frozen into the refrigerator so I have to defrost my less-than-2-year-old $3000 refrigerator. Will never buy a Samsung appliance again unless the company gets back to me and replaces my ice maker with a perfectly functioning one.

We've had our Samsung - 22.6 Cu. Ft. Counter-Depth 4-Door French Door Refrigerator for almost 5 years now and we've had Geek Squad out multiple times a year due to the ice maker running very loud and leaking all over the place.
Every time they are out we are told it's a bad design and there's not much they can do other than replace the ice maker mechanism over and over.

I like the over all unit, BUT in 2 years I have had geek squad out to fix icemaker, it freezes up and stops making ice, each time replacing parts. The lo ast time they replaced entire unit, then said If that dont work it will be replaced. Now I'm told they dont replace unit cause of ice makers so I guess they will continue to come out and fix, I still have 3 years on it, that's about 6 more times

Steer clear-find a better refrigerator

Huge disappointment-owned for 2 years and 1 month. This thing is a real piece of junk, especially for the huge price tag. The ice maker is a joke (it's a well know Samsung design defect). It builds up ice around the ice maker and needs to be defrosted every month or so just like a 50 year old freezer and leaks water before dispensing ice (this causes mold to grow in the ice chute). It was "fixed" twice and replaced once. I had to fight with Samsung to have it replaced after the one year warranty, ultimately they replaced it, but the same issues exist. Now 2 years from buying it, the freezer has stopped freezing food, the compressor and dryer need to be replaced. Water has started leaking into the middle drawer (supposedly a clogged line) and there are small rust spots on the outside of the fride and one of the door seals has ripped (another design flaw in the french door style doors). This is an adult household so the fridge does not take abuse. I would have thought Samsung would put out a superior product, I was sadly mistaken. Take the time to fully research other brands and steer clear of Samsung.
