Utterly Stunning TV - Samsung Rocks!

We’ve owned Samsung TVs for years and have never been let down. We just replaced our nearly 5 year old 55” 4K (not HDR) 6 series, which served us well. But times, my how they have changed. First we wanted Apple TV and we didn’t want to buy a $200 Apple TV adapter from Apple. 2018 and 2019 Samsung TVs come with Apple TV and AirPlay II built in. Add in Quantum Dot technology with HDR and the screen resolution on the newest TV’s is simply so much better than anything we’ve ever had.
We didn’t want OLED. It’s true that OLED probably has the best blacks you can get, but OLED isn’t refined enough yet IMHO. OLED won’t get as bright as a high-quality LCD. OLED also can suffer from burn-in if a static image is left on the screen too long. Sorry, but I’m not spending this much money to get a static image burned into the screen. Samsung Quantum Dot technology rivals OLED and in many ways surpasses it. It’s LCD technology on Steroids and it’s amazingly great.
Enter the Samsung QN65Q70RAF. We wanted to move up to 65” and we thought we were going to buy the 65” 60RAF, but after seeing the difference between the 60R and 70R with Direct Array Backlighting (48 areas), the difference was significant enough to justify the 70R. We also looked seriously at the 65” 80RAF, but other than slightly better off axis viewing (not important to our viewing needs), we could not justify the added cost for what to us seemed a limited value over the 70R. At some point the value of diminishing returns kicks in and the 70RAF was all the TV and more for our needs.
The TV is really well built. The bezels are super slim and are framed in real brushed black aluminum. The 60RAF bezels are plastic, so the 70RAF is a step up in construction. The screen employs a layer to minimize reflections from lights. The 80RAF has an even better layer than the 70RAF, but honestly, in most living rooms, the differences would be minimal. In years past Samsung included a One Box with their Q Series TV’s. The One Box let you connect one cable to back of the TV and plug in your electronics, such as receiver, DVD, Cable box, etc., to the box. The 70RAF does not include the One Box, instead you plug devices into the back of the TV. You get 4 HMDI’s, cable and optical connections, which is likely more than most anyone could need anyway.
Full disclosure, we did not set the TV up ourselves, though I’m sure we could have. We chose to pay Geek Squad to deliver and set it up as well as have them reprogram our Harmony Home Hub to take full advantage of all the features this stunning TV offers. They were terrific and took a great deal of time ensuring everything was set up for the best resolution possible and ease of use.
The TV comes really well boxed. I’d seen enough unboxing reviews to know Samsung took great care to ensure the TV comes out of the box in perfect condition. The metal feet (the 60 RAF has plastic feet), just slide and click firmly into place and look terrific with a slide off groove on the back foot for cable management. You can only really get one cable in each foot, but our TV is in a huge entertainment center and the feet weren’t needed to hide cables anyway.
While Geek Squad did the setup, I watched carefully and it is really well thought out. There are multiple video viewing modes, and we chose Standard Mode as the best for the lighting conditions in our room. This TV get’s BRIGHT. REALLY BRIGHT. Signing into Apple TV, Amazon Prime, YouTube, etc, was so simple. We did listen to the built-in speakers for a moment, which with 40 watts and 2.1 sound is OK. But it’s really recommended to use a sound bar or better speakers to enjoy true surround sound. Ours is running through a 7.1 Channel Surround receiver system with multiple dedicated speakers.
The 70RAF offers as I mentioned above, full array multi-zone dimming. This in combination with HDR provides amazing blacks, which can’t be accomplished with edge lit screens (the 60RAF is not multi-zone dimming). An LCD TV which is edge lit lights along the edges of the screen (usually the side edges), whereas multi-zone backlit TV’s such as the 70RAF have an array of LEDs directly behind the screen with 48 zones, which permits much better definition of dark and light. The difference is positively stunning!
All the TV’s in Samsung’s Quantum Dot line are powered by an advanced Quantum Processor 4K Chip, which instantly upscales content to as close to 4K as possible without any unwanted effects. We’ve watched several movies weren’t filmed in 4K, but the resolution was fantastic. Throw something in 4K to this puppy and it’s beyond awe-inducing. You can see detail like you’ve never seen before and we’re coming from a TV which was 4K. This Samsung TV offers the following HDR formats: HDR 10, HLG and HDR10+. Samsung does not offer Dolby Vision, but I’m not sure I would be able to tell the difference.
How about color on this TV? Simply amazing is all I can say. The 70RAF has what Samsung says is Quantum HDR 8X. It fine-tunes color and black to bring out the most realistic and vivid picture details and it does its job fantastically. With Intelligent Mode, the sound (if you use the built-in speakers) and picture adjust to match the conditions of the room.
Integration with devices such as Alexa or Google Home is simple. We use Alexa and now I can just say Hey Alexa, turn the TV on or off. The remote provided by Samsung is simple enough and includes dedicated buttons for Netflix, Amazon or Hulu. It also has the Bixby voice assistant, but he doesn’t seem to understand me all that well. We use a Harmony Home Hub anyway, it does everything I could need from a single unified remote.
The interface for changing apps on Samsung TV’s is powered by their Tizen Smart TV Operating System. From my perch, it’s the very best there is. It’s simple to use and very intuitive. If you want to download apps, you need a Samsung Account, which you can easily create using the Smart Things App when you set up the TV.
One interesting, but I’m not sure how important it is feature, is Ambient Mode. You can use the TV screen when the TV is off to display a photo, or news, weather, time, artistic images or you can even take a photo of the surrounding area, which can be on the screen when it’s off. If you mount your TV on a wall, I can see the value in this. If your TV is in a large entertainment center like ours is, Ambient Mode may not be all that important to you. Still, it’s great it’s there and you have the option. I don’t think any other TV manufacturer offers such a feature.
While we’re not gamers, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that the 70RAF is rated as one of the absolute best T’'s for gaming. It’s the first TV with FreeSync, which reduces lag time and tearing to give you amazing gaming speed and greater visibility in the dark.
Well there you have it. To say we’re simply blown away by how far TV’s have come in the last 4+ years is an understatement. We took advantage of Black Friday pricing, which makes this 65” Samsung 70RAF an even more impressive purchase. There is literally not one thing I would change about this TV and that’s mighty high praise. If you’re looking to upgrade your home TV, I suggest you get in our car and go over to your Best Buy Store right now and get this amazing Samsung TV. You’ll really be happy you did. So will your family and friends!
Ps: Photos taken with iPhone 11 Pro Max. All are of a 4K broadcast directly viewing the TV and off axis. Here’s the only area where the 80RAF surpasses the 70RAF. It’s still much better than the TV we replaced as off axis viewing on this TV is solidly good.

I read other reviews warning this tv doesn’t come with tv mount bolts. I ordered a set of M8 x 45mm bolts online before buying. This tv was priced at $1200 but when I checked out on the Best Buy app I was pleasantly surprised to see it was on sale for $1050. Home delivery required waiting 4 days. They put my tv on the front porch and did not ask for a signature.
The tv comes with 4 spacers to be placed thru the mounting bolts between the tv and mount plate. If you don’t use the spacers you will quickly realize like I did the bolts are too long. They won’t snug and tighten all the way down unless the spacers are used.
Set up was very easy. The tv shows various screens asking you to set up devices, look for a WiFi network, etc.... The tv recognized my Directv receiver and automatically added a Directv app to the other apps listed on the bottom of the screen. The remote control is very small with no number buttons. Having no numbers is only a concern if you are using a rabbit ears antenna to watch free over the air channels. Learning to use the remote happens quickly. All functions have an app at the bottom of the screen. Input source, settings, Netflix, Hulu, YouTube etc are easily accessed by clicking on the app.
The first thing I noticed is how bright the colors are compared to the 6 year old 55 inch set being replaced. 4K TVs have come a long ways in the last 6 years. You can go into settings and tweak the motion blur settings by customizing it or simply turn it off. The default setting of Auto made my iPhone movies look distorted so I turned it off which looks much better.
The internet browser works great. I was able to stream our Sunday morning service with no problems. This tv plays family iPhone movie mp4 and mkv files with ease on a usb flash drive. Now I just use my iphones airplay to look at pics and movies by connecting to my tv with Bluetooth. No more copying iPhone pics to a flash drive to see them on tv !
We’ve only had this tv a short time but everyone loves it. I haven’t noticed any bad pixels or other defects. Black screens look ink black. I agree with other reviews spending more money on a Q80 or Q90 won’t get you much more quality. This Q70 has a great picture for the money. Samsung doesn’t have as many apps as Roku. You can easily add a Roku streaming stick or box if you gotta have those apps. Highly recommend this tv !!!!

This tv looks amazing. The interface is fast and responsive. Able to keep place of shows and movies as you switch apps or turn tv on and off. Integrates with google so I can control it from anywhere in my home. 4k content looks like im watching the show being filmed live. I was actually worried about the "soup Opera" effect, but now find it memorizing to view. Only negative is Bixby is terrible! I had to turn it off because it would constantly trigger on accident and when I did try, it never could understand. Not a huge problem cause we have a JBL speaker with google integration behind our seating.

Purchased this TV for my bedroom. Originally was going to buy a 55 inch but best buy had a great sale going on that I couldn't pass. Great picture, great sound, easy to use and setup was a breeze. Only issue I have is that sometimes I turn the TV off and a few seconds later it turns back on. Not sure if it's a glitch that needs an update or what the issue could be but still enjoy it

i set it up and mounted it myself. two well dressed young men from Best Buy delivered it early in the day just after Covid issues locked us down. they were gone in a flash, no small talk! i am really glad we got it in early March.
the remote from Samsung is hard to use without a keypad. i had two cheap universal remote controls left over from a two year old failed LG TV and set them up to work with the Samsung TV and control our 16 year old Pioneer home theater at the same time. The Pioneer has good sound, an equalizer and can decode either PCM or Dolby 5.1. i purchased an optical decoder from China for the lousy LG TV and use it between the Samsung and the Pioneer. the decoder can pass-thru either PCM or Dolby. i have MPOW Bluetooth headphones with ANC that work great with the TV. it makes taking classes easier since i can move around.
i just used the TV settings out of the box which seem adequate for my 70 year old eyes. there is a lot written about custom settings-ain't got time for that, too busy studying oceanography at NSU and other interests to mess with settings.
on the slightly negative side the OTA receiver seems to be less sensitive to broadcast stations than the previous TV? the HDMI port gets glitchy with the same plug as the previous TV? i hope the port does not fail as we rely on it! nothing is perfect.
i would buy it again, we were lucky to get it at .950KUSD from Best Buy.

Didnt think I'd notice such a difference in tvs. Ive always been one to just go with whatever works but my husband had been eyeing this tv for a long time. Now i cant imagine going back. The clarity and color is perfect. The functionality of it and all the smart features make it even better.

I was initially debating between the Q60 and this model and for an additional $200 I got the Full Array Local dimming which makes a HUGE difference in picture quality!! This is the best compromise between quality and price, not the highest end but not the lowest either and fit my budget. The next step up Q80 is another $500 which to me was not worth it. Very happy with my purchase.

Finally had to replace my existing 55" Samsung that I purchased back in 2007. After a bit of research I decided to go with the Q70 series 65". All I can say is Wow! The picture is absolutely stunning! Set up was super easy and I was able to do it with no problems whatsoever. Great value for the price.

Great quality fir the price point. First QLED for me after retiring my Vizio after 10 years. Picture quality is very good and has a lot of features that I probably won't use but there if ever needed. Set up was almost too easy using HDMI ARC with my Yamaha AV receiver. It was essentially plug and play. My AV receiver is advanced so I was worried about technology quirks that hasn't presented itself, the two items have been working flawlessly. This is a great value for under a grand and I'm very happy with my purchase. Thanks Samsung and Best Buy!

Great size for any large living room. Picture is crisp, clear and vibrant. Full LED panel display, thin bezel design, QLED picture quality makes this model extremely enjoyable to watch. The apps available are outstanding. Spectrum, Showtime Anytime, Apple TV+, Samsung network, Tubi, Vudu, Netflix, and many other popular network apps work flawlessly. I was able to get rid of the cable box and stream all my programs. What’s really impressed me was that I also purchased the Samsung Q60 soundbar which I connected via Bluetooth and it’s sounds incredible. Better than using the fiber optic cable. Sounds emulsive, depth and loud like a theatre. I couldn’t be happier with this TV. The remote is voice activated and extremely intuitive. The TV allows you to control all devices connected to it. This also has air play built it so I’m able to connect all my apple devices to it. Screen mirror works flawlessly and there’s no latency. Again having this TV setup in the living room where there’s windows all around you don’t have be concerned about glare. The brightness auto adjusts based on how much lighting is in the room. I only have pros and zero cons with this TV. It’s simple to setup and just works. It’s the first time I’ve ever been this excited about a product and have nothing bad to say about it. I can’t think of a thing I’d change or do differently.

I've had the tv for almost a month and it looks great but takes a little tuning to get it just right. I haven't found a default setting that looks just right so I had to tweak the color, contrast etc. But overall very pleased with the tv. Setup was a breeze and the Samsung sound bar linked perfectly with no hassel via the HDMI arc. The ambient mode is truly stunning and makes the tv look like a piece of art on the wall. Added bonus my kids love to take turns picking what will be displayed if we are in the room but not watching tv. I would definitely recommend this tv especially if you find a sale, I waited and waited and got it for under a grand in mid April! Can't be beat at that price.

I had been looking into upgrading to a 55’ 4K TV for my game room. But decided to go with the Samsung 65’ LED Q70 after going to my local Best Buy and comparing the 55’ vs 65’ for the different Samsung series models. I’m so glad I went with the Q70 65’ vs. the Q60. The price is a bit more for the Q70 but the 4K picture quality looks so much better. I also purchased the definitive technology slim studio 3.1 sound bar to pair up with the TV. The whole family is enjoying the new set up and we look forward to having many movie nights.

We have it paired with the Samsung Q80R sound bar and we could not be happier. It has an amazing picture, and the apps are easy to use. The only thing we don't care for is there is no way to turn off the automatic source switch. If you turn on a Wii U to play on the controller while someone is watching to it automatically switches over to the Wii without asking. Seems like it could be a simple software update to put the option in there for manual or automatic. But that's the only complaint we have

Simply beautiful tv. Easy to set up and use. Price became affordable on Black Friday pricing. Did a lot of research before getting this tv. I compared this tv to the new Sony 950g 2019 model. I chose this one, the Samsung Q70R because it’s color accurate like the Sony but for less money.
Historically, Sony only makes video and audio equipment that is at a broadcast production level. And Sony still only makes for movie and television industry. The cameras and the studios that all tv shows, news and movies are made by using only Sony equipment to produce, record and broadcast.
This Samsung and the entire qled line is extremely close to that same production level. So I brought it.
Now I have owned Sony TVs since the 1970’s. This Samsung Q70R replaced a 11 year old Sony Bravia that sill works but occasionally had audio issues.
This Samsung was set up by geek squad and delivered by them. I got the protection plan and I also got the Best Buy tech support. They came to my house and assessed my internet and made recommendations as to how to amplify my WiFi signal since I live in a 100 year old house with very thick walls. My Samsung works perfectly thanks to them.

Great picture..blacks look amazing for lcd...the only real next uograde would cost more then double for the q70r model..what a waist just gone oled if ur gonna drop that kinda cash. I have a bright living room and it's great. Build quality is kinda crappy for a tip of the line..the older 2011 samsung was way better quality I had, but made in China is guaranteed crap as everything is now.

For the first time, I purchased this TV on-line and had it delivered. It was easy to install myself on the new wall bracket (took two of us to place it on the wall bracket)! The size is perfect for our room. Took a little time to figure out how to set it up through the Bose System; but, I did figure it out.
Additionally, this is the second Samsung Smart LED TV I have purchased. The first 48" SMART LED TV was purchased in 2011 and was moved to the bedroom. It still works great with a great picture after all these years.

First, this tv looks absolutely gorgeous! I have received many compliments on the picture since I bought it in April. The TV was meant to be an upgrade from an older Samsung for our living room. We love sports and our movie nights. The issue I have with the TV is the network connection. It seems to always need reset. No other devices in our home have network issues the way this TV does. It is mounted in the same place as the previous TV too. My daughter even complained I shouldn't have upgraded tv's. Im considering a wifi booster in hopes it will rectify the problem but should not have to based off the specs of this tv. I wish I could recommend the tv because the screen is second to none but the continuous connection issues are off putting.
