The Samsung 990 PRO 2TB is an absolute beast. Crazy fast, super reliable, and dead simple to set up. My system boots almost instantly, and everything just feels snappier. Whether it’s recording, editing, or gaming, this drive doesn’t flinch, pure performance from start to finish.

A great SSD! Works exactly as intended. It doesn't come with any heat sinks, so just make sure your motherboard comes with them, as it does get quite warm.

The SSD works great. It is fast and reliable. Works great as a boot drive. The only thing to be aware of, if using windows, is you will need to set up the drive in disk utility.

Just picked up a second one after a great experience with the first! I wanted some extra space for games and was waiting to see how the first one held up. I saw some people reporting issues with temps, reliability, and life expectancy; this seems to be a resolved issue with any of the more recently produced ones. Just grab the Samsung magician app for free to double check that it’s running the latest firmware, and it allows you to benchmark, check temps, and a lot more. If you’re looking for a fast and reliable, and reasonably priced nvme you can’t go wrong with this one.

Built for speed and that’s exactly what it does. Downloading/ transferring data is a breeze with the newer M.2 models Samsung has recently dropped. Managed to get this one during a sale and glad I spent the extra money to get the additional storage. Set up is a breeze. This was an easy decision.

I purchased this drive for a computer I purchased in 2016. The original SSD was a 2.5" drive and had a very small capacity, so I was stuck managing files very closely. This drive gives me more space and better performance, extending the life of my PC. The installation was easy, but I needed special software to clone my OS to the drive. My only issue was with BestBuy, not the drive. I tried to purchase the drive in store, but after twenty minutes of searching, the person helping me could not find the drive - even though the website said they had a few in stock. I had to order it for pickup, and magically it was available in an hour. This caused multiple trips to the store instead of one and I would have been better off just ordering and having it delivered to my house.

There is an unwritten law that says, 'work will grow to fill whatever time you have to do it.' I'd say the same is true of data files and memory. Get a 16 terabyte solid state disk and some day, you'll be looking for more. If I were emperor, everyone would be limited to one terabyte. That's it. Delete your old 96 bps music files that you downloaded back in the day and pick one of your 20 almost identical pictures and be done with it. Seriously, you kids don't know how good you have it. When I was young, we had 12, maybe 24 shots per roll of film. That's it! And we had to wait weeks to see if they even came out. Forget taking videos, let alone videos with sound! We had to be selective with our shots and what we kept. You think book shelves to fill with photo albums are just everywhere? Heck, my father in law likes to show off his 20 gorgeous wildlife photos. He only had to take over 2,000 to get those 20. In one trip! He does this all-the-time! He's uses up more disk space in RAW photos he'll never use than installs of Cyber Punk, Crysis, and all versions of Medal of Honor, combined! Ansel Adams is turning over in his grave. He's yelling from beyond "Are you freaking kidding me! How many shots do you think I took to get 'Yosemite Valley'? One! And you guys are taking multiple pictures of your casual dining chicken tenders!? Just bury me deeper, please!" Anyway, thank god we have quality solid state drives like the SMSNG 990Pro to store all the monuments to life in the early 21'st century. It's reliable storage and speedy read/write will ensure that no one needs to wait an extra millisecond to see 50 versions of the same cat photo. (aside: you see, he was looking slightly left there, and here down, I kept clicking until he finally just rolled over. But I saved them because I might use one some day. But yeah, they're all pretty awful). I opted for the 2 TB version to make sure that I had plenty of space to keep my novels that i'm writing. I have 20 that I've started, 10 are beyond chapter 1, and well, that's it. But you see, it doesn't matter! Because I have all the space I need to completely hinder my kids and co workers with "He's no longer here, is any of this important? Who wants to go through it all? No one? OK, just copy it over to our new 200 TB disks. We'll get to it someday". God help us all.

I've only had this for about a month, but it's been running wonderfully. My past experience with Samsung SSDs has been excellent in regards to reliability. I anticipate the same with this one. Also, it's simply plug-in-play. I'm using it as a boot drive, and the initial installation went as smoothly as possible. The speeds are comparable to advertised. Windows 11 Pro loads quickly. Pretty much all app are near instantaneous. If you've never tried an NVMe drive, this is a great one to step into that world with.

Just here to describe the elation i felt after checking the price point for the 990 pro a month later... (so, late January 2026, and see that it's now selling for $300!) I had a hunch that storage was about follow the price trend that Ram was undergoing, and jumped on it when I found it here for $220. The 990 Pro has onboard DRAM (which also made me happy that the cheaper 990 "Plus" had been sold out at the time I bought this, as the Plus doesn't have onboard DRAM). The Samsung Magician software is super intuitive and easy to use to clone your preexisting, probably smaller, SSD. I've used this software before and knew I'd get through it without much issue. And my laptop has the same bus speed for both SSDs so it was fine to make the new drive the booting drive. Almost gave my self a heart attack installing it when i had to manipulate some tiny wires in case in order to allow the SSD to seat properly after inserting it, and the wires disconnected from a component (wifi card?) and i thought i ripped the traces off. Turns out there are very tiny U.FL/IPEX connectors that are designed to snap together, and managed to reconnect them to the board of the component. (They are sooo small.) (Make sure your laptop uses this version, without the bulky heat-sinks.) [Use an AI tool to find the correct method to reformat the old drive and turn it into a single storage drive, as you'll probably want to wipe the multiple partitions it had from the original O/S install.]

This is one of the most realiable and fastest 4th gen drives you can buy and when on sale for 130 its cheaper than the 980 pro! Temps are great too, my only suggestion is to update the firmware with samsung magican, it will not only bump speed a bit but also stop the very early on drive problems.
