So far so good -- this smartphone that cost as much as my last laptop is sleek and fast and has already demonstrated better reception and better battery life than my Note3 (as it should).
Before I go on, I do want to say that while all THREE customer service reps who helped me were lovely, polite, super helpful, and good looking, in the end I got a black phone, although I had many times emphasized that I wanted to purchase the grey version. We discussed unlocked and branded phones, cost, etc. I purchased the phone outright, and for a thousand dollars you'd think BestBuy could have sold me the correct color !!
But I digress... this new phone will take some getting used to, as one would expect, but it has been a fairly smooth process so far. If you had an android phone already, it should be just the sort of intuitive but bumpy ride that all these toys put us through. If you're migrating from Apple or Windows, or it's your first smartphone, I can't say.
The Edge business is aggravating IMO. I know some people think it looks smart, but I just find that it's harder to connect with keys and touch spots near the curvature of the screen. There are a bunch of options for the edge-y extras, so between that and the Stylus (which is what really makes this phone), those who like all sorts of complicated customizable extras should be happy.
For the rest of us, it's nice that one can leave it all on default and things will go along nicely.
I didn't use any special migrating apps, and they did not transfer my info. The phone came with a SIM card, so I didn't have to transfer my old one. I do plan to add a micro-SD -- CAREFULLY . That teeny little drawer that comes out of the top strikes me as all kinds of delicate and problematic. I liked it better on the old phones where one pops out the battery and there the cards are underneath. Much better! More durable. But hopefully one only accesses it rarely.
There aren't many cases for this phone, which is a bummer. Currently I've got it in an overpriced leather case (Nomad), which I do not recommend, not because of the price, but because it doesn't close properly. But that's another review.
The S-Pen doesn't just pull out like it did with my Note3, you have to push it and then it pops out. Likely that change occurred sometime during the interim generations. There are more options for use, as well -- that thing is wonderfully handy!
Anyway, super expensive little toy, but so far it's gearing up to be quietly powerful, and I'm really looking forward to using it for a few years.

Its definatly alot faster and smother than my note5 could ever hope 2 b... but Im still exploring features n only just starting 2 play so I can give a more or less confident opinion at a latter date... I can absolutely say I am very happy with the deal I got from Best Buy! I looked for a deal with my Carrier and also other competing Carriers I, and most had deals on the note 8, becuase I loved my note5 so much I wouldn't upgrade 2 anything else but another galaxy Note... all the good carriers here had some good deals on the Note 8, but Best Buy gave me $300 off full price for a verizon Note 8 without requiring me change my'lite n managable 2g+ rollover plan from verizon instead of having to pay for un-needed data like Verizon, t mobile,n the rest wanted me 2 do five stars just for that,Bravo Best Buy!

The phone is pricy, and for 99.9% of users, it's probably overkill, but it's hands down the best Android phone on the market. The camera is fast and takes great low light pictures, it's responsive, has an incredible screen for viewing media, and the S Pen is helpful. The screen-off note feature is worth the bump in price from the S8+.

When I saw the Note 8 on sale at Best Buy on Black Friday, the guesswork was all gone! Purchased the phone with a $350.00 discount off the purchase...on Verizon...which got me 3-4 bars of signal at home where I never got better than one bar of signal with ATT.
The screen is amazingly clear...I updated from a Note 5, so I was used to the features of the Note device.
It is so fast and I love the wireless charging! I never plug the phone in, I just sit it on the charger and let induction take care of the rest. No worries about plugging the phone in and wearing out the charging port.
The size is great for watching videos and the sound is great.
The ability to take photos is above my expectations. I take pictures of the sunrise...everyone says "Wow"! You should make a print of that and put it on the wall!
If you are looking for an awesome phone, look no further, this is the One!

Higher precision S-pen make finer hand writing tool for notes. Get the Samsung LED Wallet cover with it. Shows time, caller ID and alerts right through the cover. Swipe to answer or dismiss without opening it up. Volume up and down as well as Bixby controls right through the cover!

It's an understatement to say that the Galaxy Note 8 is an incredible phone.
It's packed with so many features there's too many to count. It's fast as lightning and simple to use.
Great sound, great build quality, incredible camera, incredible screen resolution.
There is really nothing bad I can say about this phone.

Here is a long review for people who really want to know about how a phone performs for a normal user (rather than a tech website)
As someone who uses her phone everyday A LOT, the Note 8 really delivers. The quality I care most about in a phone is speed/lack of lag and I'm happy to say that the Note 8 is extremely fast with no lag whatsoever. I used to have an S8+ and this was a enough of a problem for me that I traded up to a Note 8 instead (I was a Note 5 user previously and I noticed this same difference in speed/lag between the Note 5 and the S7). Although the S8 and the Note 8 use the same processor the added RAM in the Note 8 does actually make a noticeable difference in loading webpages, scrolling, switching between/reloading apps, etc.
The dual camera performs exceptionally well, particularly in low light and is VERY fast. Being able to take wide angle selfies is nice (I don't use this a lot regularly, but its come in handy at big friend/family gatherings). The pro mode really lets you get your pictures exactly the way that you want them and I've gotten a lot of compliments (and I'm far from an excellent photographer) on some of the shots I've taken when using in this mode. I'm happy to see that Samsung preserved the quick launch camera feature (although now its via the power button). The live focus feature for bokeh shots works only so-so, but if you're patient with it you can get the shot you are looking for. The stickers that let you have bunny ears or a sheep's head or whatever are cute and fun...for a day, and then you kinda move on. I really like how Samsung cameras produce brighter pictures with more vivid colors as compared to iPhones which arguably produce photos with more true to life color reproduction, but its really a matter of taste I think.
The OLED screen is big, bright and gorgeous. It lets you see lots of detail in images and is everything you'd expect from a Samsung panel. It gets very very bright for looking at images or video outdoors. It can also get reasonably dim for night-time use and has a blue light filter, but the iPhone has it beat here with its Truetone display and warmer color output for reading in the dark.
The S-pen is as good as it ever was for note taking, quick lists, screen capture/writing, etc. When I first started using the Note line I thought that this would be a gimmick I would never use, but I actually ended up using it a lot for jotting down shopping lists, or things mentioned by my professors in passing, phone numbers, etc. I don't use it for drawing at all, so I cant speak to that. Its very responsive, but the tip of the pen has changed slightly from the way it was on my Note 5 and sometimes it feels a bit overly pressure sensitive. Its nice that you can make animated gifs using it, but this isn't a feature I use all that often.
Random other things: it has a headphone jack, yeah! The fingerprint sensor is up high next to the camera. I don't really find this to be a big problem (tech review sites make more out of it than is warranted imo), particularly if you have a case on your phone. After a week of getting used to it I consistently hit it when I need to, and for some reason it's actually easier for me to reach it than it was on my S8+. The speaker at the bottom is not great, but I never really listen to anything on my phone without headphones. Also, size-wise the Note 8 is BIG (obviously), but if you're used to/like big phones its not problematic at all. In fact, because the sides of the Note 8 are more squared off compared to the S8+, despite it being taller and heavier I find it wayyyy easier to grip and less prone to getting dropped. In general it just feels sturdier. Maybe it not as pretty design-wise as the S8-lineup (the S8 and the S8+ both look and feel more sleek) but its more functional.
Overall, I think its "worth" the money (although there are usually so many sales and discounts that you should do everything in your power to avoid paying full price). I'm super happy with it.

I love the display screen, colors are rich, very bright outdoors, and very sharp text. Easier to hold in my hands than my prior iPhone 6S+ because it's a little less wide. I'm using the orchid grey S View folio case and it makes my blue Note 8 look so sleek and sexy! Would be 5 star phone if it had a better battery.

The battle continues between Samsung and iPhone. This phone is better HANDS DOWN.
-It costs less than the iPhone x
-It has more features than the IPhone x
-It has better hardware than the IPhone x
-It has a stylus, the iPhone does not.
-It has an IP68 (waterPROOF) rating. The iPhone is only IP67 ("water resistant")
-It has a fingerprint scanner, the IPhone x does not.
-Even though the screen on the iphone x is made my Samsung, the note 8 has more ppi (pixels per inch) or in simpler terms, more resolution.
-The note 8 has a bigger battery with longer run times.
-The note 8 comes with expandable storage via a micro SD card up to 256GB. So with the phones 64GB built in memory that's a total of 320GB of storage. More than any iPhone.
-The note 8 has more ram, a faster processor with 8 cores instead of 6 like the iphone x, and a better GPU.
-The iPhone 8 has already been plagued with several different problems, the note 8 has not.
Decide for yourself which is the better phone, and if you're an iPhone sheep, God help you.

This is my second Samsung flagship phone and first Note phone. I bought this phone because of the highly rated dual lens camera, always taking pictures, and the giant screen to display the many photos I take., The big screen and the camera are both really awesome. Also, apps pull up and perform very speedily-its obvious right away that this is a power phone.
This is my first stylus pen experience, and don't need it for a fully packed schedule or for work, but I use it a lot to send handwritten notes as texts, and like you can use a pictures as the background of a note. Allows for a lot of personalization and creativity if you like to text.
Although I never thought about this feature when I made the decision to purchase this phone, I am very surprised and impressed by the virtual assistant Bixby. I really don't like having to dig into apps and hitting all kinds of buttons/icons, so to just tell Bixby what I want my phone to do with my voice, is something I really like a lot. Another thing I like is when you have the camera open, you can hit a single button and camera optically 2x zooms in just like a telephoto lens, with no loss of quality of a digital zoom. As a picky snapshooter who zooms in alot, I always hated the loss of quality of digital zoom, and this solves a big problem in my picture taking. Also, the phone call quality is very clear and sharp, although I found it to be a tad "tinny", the clarity and crispness really stood out to me on my first voice call.
The only negative in my opinion, and this has been noted by every professional review of this phone, is the fingerprint scanner on the back of the phone. I would like to see it further down, towards the middle of the phone. But the Iris scanner works pretty well as a substitute.

This phone is powerful. I wanted the larger screen size and thought I'd never use the stylus but I use it all the time. Multitasking is super easy with no lag in performance, battery life is incredible, camera is the best I've ever seen on a phone, display is beautiful, and thus far, I have not found anything I don't like. 10 out of 10, best phone I've ever owned.

Lets face it... samsung messed up big time with the Note 7... but they really made up with the Note 8. Ive had the phone for a month now and it still impresses me. Picture quality is amazing. And the camera is pretty versatile with a lot more tweaking controls similar to professional DSLRs. CPU is pretty fast and the expandable memory is back wich should be a must on all smart phones. The size is just right. I wouldnt want anything bigger. They can always go thinner though. Another aspect of it i really like is the battery life. My Note 5 would need a recharge after half a a day of normal use. Phone calls and some web surfing. The Note 8 can go a day and a half with above average usage. Plus it has a stylus which im so used to and its waterproof to about 3 feet. Im happy with it.

I have had this phone for a few days now. It is a huge upgrade from my old phone. The features are amazing and the phone seems to be very high quality. I was looking for a phone that was easy to use, had good battery life, and had decent reception. This phone seems to fit the bill nicely. My old phone would have had a little better reception in some of the areas I have been, but I can't really complain too much. I live in rural North Dakota and no one else I was with was getting reception when I wasn't. So it was a service issue more then anything. I would recommend if you're looking for a new phone. Also, the stylus works great, and although I was used to a different PDA, Bixby seems to work very well. there are certainly different commands to learn, but its easy, and Bixby seems to learn the way I talk fairly fast.

I'm a long time Apple user. You can find several verified purchase reviews written by me here within the past year for iPads, iPhones, and Macs. Apple was already angering me with their apparent abandonment of certain Mac lines like the Mini and their heavy-handed approach to others, like when they assumed we all don't need any ports other than USB-C on MacBooks. The latest iPhones were the last straw. First, I need a big phone. Second, I need more than a paltry 64GB to support my music and photo content needs. The 256GB iPhone 8 is basically a $950 ever-so-slightly improved iPhone 7. It should honestly be named the 7S, not 8. The truly "new" iPhone, the X, is absurdly priced for the 256GB version at $1,150. I saved hundreds (nearly $500 in the case of the most expensive iPhone X) and purchased this Note 8. I already have high-end micro-SD cards that give me the capacity I need. I was initially apprehensive about switching to Android. However, after nearly a decade as an iPhone user, I am now kicking myself for not making the move away from Apple sooner. This phone is so much more capable and better than the iPhone, it's not even funny. I'm not talking about in a geeky fringe app way nor am I referring to apps at all. I'm referring to basic functionality. I don't play games or use any weird apps, so I don't need a ton of processing power although this phone has a lot of power to spare. I do use my smartphone as my personal everyday assistant. It has to help me schedule, keep track of people and things, take photos when needed, remind me when needed and basically function as an extension of my laptop when I'm mobile. This Note 8 is far more capable at that than my iPhone 7 was. Also, it is absolutely stunning to look at. The sleek lines, handsome body, gorgeous screen and included S pen all combine to make a very attractive package and a sweet bargain to boot. It only took me a day to get accustomed to Android and I now see that Apple has definitely lost me as an iPhone customer and very likely as a MacBook customer as well if they keep insisting on a single-port capability laptop. Apple couldn't care less because they know there are more than enough people who are willing to continue buying their stuff regardless of how badly Apple treats them or how little Apple innovates. I just will no longer be among them and I couldn't be happier with my new Note 8. Even Android Auto is much better than Car Play in my vehicle and I can now use Waze for navigation. Sweet!

Arguably the Best Android Phone!

This is arguably the best android phone right now, best value for money too if you manage to snag one of those nice Best Buy deals! I purchased the Note8 using DPP (no bill credits!) and have been using it for almost a month now and feel confident to say that I made a great decision by upgrading my Note5 this time around!
This phone like any other Note series phone is loaded with way too many features and it's up to we users to take advantage of all the functions this smartphone offers.
To begin with, screen is amongst top two, undoubtedly best in my opinion as there are at least four ways to customize display tone. I switch back between Adaptive Display and Basic Modes but prefer the punchiness of the former. We spend a vast amount of time staring at our smartphone screens so to me the display a phone offers is always the top priority.
Another huge aspects of the phone; speed and RAM managment are also quite smooth. Touchwiz has gotten lighter over recent years and I personally will never trade the functionality it brings for anything else. With plenty of RAM and powerful processor on board, I don't feel any lag during common day tasks. Touchwiz however crashes on me sometimes and needs to be restarted.
Another important feature, the battery is surprisingly great. It lasts me all day even though actual mAh capacity is smaller than the S8+, all thanks to better RAM and overall software managment. Just don't let your battery hit 0% ever if possible, in light of recent events..
S pen is super functional, gone are the days when I use to sign my leases on paper.
Speakers aren't great but AKG tuned headphones included in the box are quite decent. I haven't used Bluetooth 5 feature just yet.
Lastly and most importantly for a smartPHONE, call quality is phenomenal. I have the Verizon version and can't be any happier.
Camera isn't the best in market, more like top 5 in the market. My low light pictures aren't always great even with the "Pro" mode that this phone at least allows you to use.
Bixby is something.. but I have made myself to use it as why disable a button if it's there. It does bring some cool features onboard but Google Assistant is way ahead.
Overall, I would totall recommend this phone, especially if you grab it on a good deal. Based on my experience (previously Note3, Note5), Samsung phones age well over time even though resale values are nowhere near iPhones. Samsung and other Android manufacturers (barring Google) really need to up their games as far as software update and support goes. With all that being said, I would totally buy an iPhone X if ratio of functionality and features to price was a bit higher. Pixel 2 is also great but Pixel 2 XL worries me just a bit due to those display issues. Cameras and software on all these phones are just amazing. Technology is getting so much better these days and all the companies are doing a great job in bring all these cool gadgets at a hefty price.. Good time to be alive!
