It’s fast!

My son uses his in conjunction with MacBook Airs (M1 and an older model). I tested the read and write speed using Blackmagic speed test; it was in the 830 Mbps range. He also uses a Sandisk SSD rated for 550 Mbps which returns speeds in the mid-300s on Blackmagic’s test. My son stores his Photos library with images and videos taken on a Sony a6000.

Transforms Mac mini 2012
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.This ssd transforms a Mac mini 2012 into a modern computer running Catalina without even opening up the Mac mini. All you need to do is to connect it to a usb 3 port on the Mac mini, create a boot drive for Catalina or another version of the operating system, and you're off and running. To boot into the external drive, you need to hold down the option key on the Mac mini. Speeds are around 400 read and 400 write which are much better than the internal Mac mini hard drive and roughly equivalent to an internal ssd in the Mac mini. In addition to the USB port, I also connected the drive to the Mac mini thunderbolt port with the appropriate Apple cables but I could not get it to work. If anyone is capable of getting it to work, I would appreciate knowing since the current limitation is the USB port and the drive should be even faster connected to thunderbolt. I also connected the drive to another computer with a more modern USB port and the test speeds were around 800/800. In summary, this is a great upgrade for very little cost and effort.

Works great when using it as a external bootable drive running Mac OS X Catalina. To get best performance, make sure you connect it to a high speed port I.E. Thunderbolt or USB 3.
