Works great. You do have to download software to make it work, but once done its easy to set up dual 4K monitors on my MacBook Pro M1 Pro chip.

I would love the product if it worked correctly all the time. Unfortunately it randomly disconnects my screen while using. Everything is stationary and not moving so the cable isn't physically disconnecting. I may have to return the product.

Works great on M1 Macs - dual external monitor

. Satechi USB-C Multimedia Adapter M1 SUMMARY: In a blink, my video output crippled M1 iMac went from only supporting one external monitor, to supporting two. Simple. Works great. Made me wonder why Apple didn't do it. CONS: None if what you want is Dual Monitor output from M1 Macs. WARNINGS: Gets hot. No direct ethernet port. Bigger than most Satechi ports, you will think twice about traveling with it. Only 1 USB-C data port and 2 USB-A. Pricey? FULL STORY: I had been running a three monitor set up on my Macs for a number of years, one to work on, one to the side to have my calendar and email, and then a plasma tv on the wall to throw up charts and presentations when people come to my office. When the M1 Macs came out (MacBook Air, then iMac) I tried to convince myself I would not miss that third screen. I lied. So when Satechi released their USB-C Multimedia Adapter M1 with dual 4k HDMI output (60 Hz and 30) with the promise it would work with my M1 Macs... I had to try it. You plug it in. Download the software. And it works. Just works. Far simpler than I thought it would be. I haven't looked back and it handles anything I throw at it.. photoshop, games, MS office, you tube, nary a problem. One interesting thing, it seems to get confused when I move it from my MacBook Air to my I Mac... as if its trying to use the previous settings. Easy to fix in preferences. WHO IS GOING TO BUY THIS: I can't vouch for PC's, but if you have an M1 Mac, and you want two external monitors, the price is right. If you are looking for a more generalized hub, there are better choices out there, more ports, less cost.

I purchased this adapter. I used it but it kept losing connection. I would have to reboot. I thought the problem was for every reason except the adapter. Finally, had our IT department at work to help me. They suggested I purchase another adapter. The new one worked exactly as it should. I would like to return for credit even though I am 1 day beyond the 60 day return. window. We purchase everything from Best Buy. Never had an issue before.

I purchased this to run two monitors off my MacBook and it's had constant issues with monitors cutting out. Satechi sent me a replacement unit, we've replaced cables, swapped monitors, and updated everything. It's $150 and unfortunately it and the replacement are going in the trash. I've spent a lot of time fiddling with stuff since I purchased it and I've finally given up.

    A solution for adding ports

I am using this hub with the M1 Mac mini so that I can have dual 4K monitors and have easier access to ports. My monitors both run on 30Hz. I had no trouble running both of my monitors. During initial setup, one of the monitors had black and white pixels across a black screen but it was only for a few seconds then the normal Apple logo displayed. No issues after that. You have to install Siliconemotion app for both HDMI ports to work. The left HDMI port runs at 30Hz and the right runs at 60Hz. If I use the left port with my Samsung 4K-30Hz monitor, the image is not clear, text is jagged. It works as it should when I connect it to the 60Hz port. I also noticed a little delay in the boot up process where I think it loads the Siliconemotion app. I was kind of concerned about the app asking permission to allow screen recording. This is needed so enable HDMI 2 port. It also asks to allow access files on removable drives so that it can access support files on the adapter. Hmmm? It has two USB-A 3.0 ports and two USB-C ports; one is a data port and the other is a charging port with PD (up to 100W). I didn’t notice much of a difference in file transfers so that’s good. Charging up my 2020 iPad Pro was no different to the Apple 20W charger and I’m almost sure it was slower. Having the additional ports is why I got this hub and for that purpose, it works good for me. However, I thought being it a multimedia adapter that it would have an SD slot but nope. It has an 8” cable which is long enough for use with a notebook but for my use with the Mac mini, it is not long enough. It would have to sit on top of the mini or just off to the side of it along the back side. The hub stays pretty warm even without any peripherals connected to it so having sit on top of the Mini might not be a good idea even though the Mini stays fairly cool. Dual monitor and charging an iPad Pro got it a lot warmer like a nice hot, freshly poured mug of coffee. I give it this much. It is built solid, it looks good, it has dual monitor support and gives additional USB ports. I’m not liking on how it gets hot, the image quality on the 30Hz port and that it should have included the SD ports.
