I remember playing Shenmue 1 on the Dreamcast when it came out. It was such an amazing open world experience for the time. Sadly it didn't sell well and the sequel didn't make it to the U.S. until it came out on the original xbox. The collection here looks and plays fantastic. Both games look even better in HD though you can see it's age. The games run well on this compilation and I haven't had any issues so far. Definitely worth a look if you are interested in Shenmue. The price is also fantastic!

I can still remember playing shenmue 1 & 2 back in highschool and enjoying every bit of it. It does start a bit slow and the voice acting a bit cheesy but now we have the option of jap voice with subtitles. If you enjoy story games and exploring this game is a must for you. Cant wait to jump back in. Lets get sweaty (all shenmue fans will understand that quote)

A definite masterpiece classic. 2 games in one package at such a great price. Wonderful story and lots of fun to play. Can’t wait until part 3 comes out.

It was a sweet surprise that Shenmue 1 & 2 HD became available on XB1 almost two decades after they came out on Dreamcast. This is not a remaster version but a definitive version of both games you should get if you are a fan of the OG—only for $30. Can’t beat this deal! Better graphics with modern features will be sure to draw new fans to this classic!

I've been a Shenmue fan since it was first rumored to be in development for the Sega Saturn as a Virtua Fighter RPG. To say I am a fan of the series is an understatement. As great as this collection is, just remember to play this with an early 2000's mindset as some aspects of the game didn't particularly age well.

Going area to area, loading fights, changing days - that used to take forever on the DC. Now you can actually do stuff without the pain. It was an introduction for many to an open world of sorts and very cool. Graphics seem to be the same, at least they are as I remember... DC was great. It's fun but... It's been passed by. But I play... To experience it again is a nice memory but more so bc I want an ending to a story I remember.

It's a nice couple of stories, and a fun trip back in time if you had them on the Dreamcast growing up. The games can be a little hard to understand from the translated dialogue and cultural differences. It's still a fun package, be sure to pick it up during a sale.

In 2018, I would have never imagined that I'd have the chance to play both of the Shenmue titles on a platform other than my original XBOX. The first two games in the trilogy have been remastered, and I'm incredibly excited to finally play these games, in lieu of Shenmue 3 which I backed on Kickstarter and am also looking forward to play. (I purchased this game on both PS4 and XBOX One, and copied the review I wrote for the PS4 version here.)

Thanks Sega for finally releasing both of these classics. Hope you like controls that are like driving a tank. But hey we got Shenmue finally however a remake would have been stellar.

Shenmue and its sequel were groundbreaking games on the Dreamcast back when they first released. This compilation/rerelease for modern consoles is worthy of your time. If you have ever wanted to know where to find sailors, race forklifts, complete a capsule toy collection, play Space Harrier & Hang On, or experience what are the first open-world games look no further. The story is can be mundane/predictable compared today’s video game storytelling, but if you can look past that you will enjoy experiencing the daily life of Ryo Hazuki. Go back to that day the snow turned to rain and avenge your father!

i have been waiting for this for years and it is finally here. the remaster looks amazing, takes me back. cant beat the price, well worth it.

This is a franchise that I wish had been kept up more than it has. These games were ahead of their time. You can feel the Shenmue DNA in the Yakuza franchise. The game wasn’t redone so it does will feel dated. The fmv will look older than other modern games and the controls may feel a little sluggish. The game was made based on controllers that only had one analog stick. If you have never played the game it might not be great for you but if you are a fan of the franchise it will be nice to replay on your HD TV.

I gave these games 5 stars because they are a great set of games that brought me back to my youthful days as a gamer. Do keep in mind tho these games are not a super jump up in graphics from when they where first released. I would recommend them to either people who played them in the past and would love to play them again on modern consoles and/or retro gamers. For its time, these games are amazing and helped pioneer great stories in today's games.

Played the Dreamcast and Xbox versions when the both came out a long time ago Great reliving these two games with an graphic upgrades are minimal. Still a worthy purchase.

For better or for worse. Same mechanics, a little clunky and really should have been a complete remake. Tough to go back to playing.

This is a great throwback to the original, but much better. The gameplay is the same but you will notice an enhancement to the gameplay mechanics. Not much for graphics though. That wasn’t the point in playing this game the first time. This will be an excellent introduction for those that didn’t play the first ones. Definitely get this to see how early day open-world games played.

Played these games when they first came out and was surprised to see them being released on the newer generation systems. They were fun when they were first released and I had a blast from the past experience playing them again. For first time players they might find the games a little slow and boring.

Now I may be showing my age a little but I couldn't get enough of this game especially Shenmue 1. I had that Dreamcast. Part 2 came out on Xbox 360 & it definitely was a must have especially after playing part 1. I'm still looking forward to get Shenmue 3 after I beat Shenmue 2 to see where else the story takes me

These two games are stone cold classics. While their tank controls may take a while for some gamers to get used to, if you're willing to stick with these games, you will be rewarded with a meaty, immersive experience full of exploration & excellent storytelling.
