This is a great game for the game collection to play

Finally these classic games have been released on modern consoles.

Purchased as a gift, the person I gave it to really liked it, that’s all I have to say. You should not require 50 characters on a review!

I played the Dreamcast originals, the Xbox sequel, and now the HD port! This is the definitive version. Live an epic story of revenge, but also real life along with it's distractions in 1986-87 Japan and Hong Kong. Go for the main plot, get a job or gamble to make money, or get side tracked playing classic SEGA arcades of the era, talking with random folks of the city, or practice your martial arts as you prepare for the main fights, based on the move sets of the Virtua Fighter series! Can our protagonist Ryo find the villainous Lan Di with the help of the friends he makes along the way? Will he find the meaning behind the mysterious stone mirrors? That is up to you and the choices you make! In regards to the quality of this port, it is in fact a port, not a remaster or remake. This compilation is not emulated, but running original Dreamcast (Shenmue) and OG Xbox (Shenmue II) code optimized with some extra bells and whistles for modern consoles. The games have never looked or ran better. Now utilizing high resolution rendering in full HD (no 4K unfortunately), and far better anti aliasing for little to no jaggies at all. There were no moments of slow down whatsoever that I have found in either game. You now have your choice of English or Japanese voiceovers, the ability to turn off the controversial bloom effect from the Xbox code of Shenmue II, but still get the benefits of the Xbox upgrade with the higher resolution random textures, slightly enhanced geometry, and time of day shadows on buildings. The movie filters and snapshot camera from the OG Xbox are also present. The shortcoming have been and are still being addressed, from sound and graphic glitches, the game has improved leaps and bounds from its day 1 release, and even with a few remaining at the time of this writing, this is still the best way to play the game, even over original game hardware or emulation. My biggest gripe at this point would be that some cutscenes run in 4:3 aspect ratio despite the main gameplay being full 16:9 widescreen, and in Shenmue 2 most 16:9 widescreen cutscenes remain in a letterboxed window in 4:3 instead of filling the whole screen (I think there should have been an option to fill the screen since it was already in the correct aspect ratio). My final thoughts are, despite it not being a full remaster to make the game fit the modern standards of games (aspect ratio being the biggest, along with remastered audio, and tweaked gameplay of the first game to help pacing to the likes of it's sequel), at only a $30 launch price, this is as about a great of a value as you can get. Even as a curiosity its a fine piece of gaming art. It is at its core an RPG, so if you don't have the patience for that type of game, this is not for you. For everyone that likes a good mix of story and things to do, you should definitely give this a try, and look forward to the long awaiting sequel coming in 2019!

Couldn’t get into it, I didn’t play the original releases so I don’t have any nostalgia for it.

This game seems like fun but it keeps crashing and returning to the main menu. I have to save it every 5 minutes but, sometimes I forget. Then, after playing for a while, it'll crash, and I'll lose a decent portion of progress. If there's a patch that updates this issue then for sure I would give it a higher review.

I played these games back when they were released for the Dreamcast. Absolutely amazing games! The story line is incredibly deep and there is so much to do and see within these games. These games are the foundation for many of the popular game types today. Do yourself a favor and pick these masterpieces up and experience gaming history! My favorite games of all time, can't recommend highly enough!

2 greats games all in one package!! Shenmue took me out depression. It was a great escape with a great story and adventure to explore!
