Customers admire Sid Meier's Civilization VI for its addictive and engaging gameplay, offering numerous possibilities and extensive playtime. The game's portability is also a significant plus, with many praising its convenience on the Switch. The smaller screen size on the Switch is also noted as a potential drawback by some players.

Great game and fun to play but the difficulty level for even the basic level is a bit much and not as fun as previous installments of the Civilization series (I have played all 6+). It is a bit clunky to maneuver compared to PC but you do get the hang of it. Decent for travel but then your screen gets really harder to work with on the Switch small form factor.

I have over 1000+ hours player on pc with all the DLC. I know this one doesn't come with the DLC but I'm betting it will come. Runs great for the switch. Fun and easy to play. Small getting used to difference in controls if your coming from pc. Best strategy game on the market and I'm so happy it has come to consoles. Late game isn't as bad as you'd think it would be, I havnt tried over a standard map size on the switch. Ps it doesn't have Hot seat so that's kinda lame.

The game is great. Been a civ fan for as long as I can remember and it's an excellent addition to the franchise. Must get the expansion packs to really get everything this game offers. Took a few play throughs before I finally put away my lab top and civ 5 for good. Love the portability playing civ on switch brings as well. My only beef is the switch really struggles in the end games. Long wait times between turns, even with animations turned off. Missing some menus you get with the computer version (really miss the demographics information) but overall it's still civ and I still find myself playing just one more turn...

I was very skeptical that a game with as complex controls as Civ could be made to work on Nintendo Switch, but gave it a try after reading positive reviews. They mostly pulled it off, I must say. I don't even play switch that much, but I've been able to for the most part play this game just fine with the pair of joycons. There are a few cases of inconsistency or just plain confusion, and I've sometimes ended up selecting the wrong option, on some screens, but I suppose that's some what inevitable. The graphics are decent, yet it's reasonably snappy. Pretty good, overall!

I'm new to this series but but I do love strategy games and this game has had me curious for many years so I decided to give it a try once it was announced for the switch. The game plays really well and the Switch has no problem running the game. Its different from rts games and games like XCOM but it plays really well. You aim is to conquer as much of the map and decide how you intend to win the game either through science, religion, or domination. You start off as thousands of years ago and watch as your civilization becomes more advanced into the future. It is a long game but its very interesting. Recommend to anyone who love a good strategy game.

Most Comfortable Way to Play Civ

I've been playing Civilization since the first installment. I even have Civilization VI for the PC. I bought this version with some concern about how well the game would transfer to console button controls. My hope however was having the game on the Switch would make it much more convenient and comfortable way to play. My hopes were pleasantly confirmed. Although it takes a bit of getting used to it is clear a lot of thought was put into the button mapping and control scheme of the game. Less than half way through my first game everything was second nature for me. I even used buttons in handheld mode over the touch screen. Playing portability on the switch is super convenient. Playing docked with split joy-cons on a large screen is very relaxing and comfortable. I'd play Civilization this way over using my computer every time. It should be noted this version of Civ 6 does only supports local wireless (2 Switches, 2 games, same place) multiplayer. I've never been interested in multiplayer for this game, so that doesn't bother me.

If you've played a Civilization game before you know what you're getting into. For those who haven't it's a very diplomatic Strategy game. You're building up your country and trying to win in a number of ways. That's just the brief way of describing the game. It's very good and I suggest picking this game up. Especially on the Switch the fact that you can play this game on the go makes it even better. You can get lost in this game for many hours without even knowing. The only problem I have is that when you're playing in handheld mode, the quality(resolution) of the game goes down. But it's kinda unavoidable with many games on the Switch.

Got this game on sale for under 9 bucks. Been a big fan of the Civilization franchise since the early PC days. I was actually looking for a good strategy RPG and I say Civilization fits the bill. Playing on the Switch, I have to say it is a decent port. However, if you really want to play it and don't like playing on a small screen, make sure to play it on the TV. As for the performance, I didn't see any real lag issues. If you have never played Civilization, there are videos on Youtube where you can learn how.

The console version of this game is quite fun, though the time between turns gets lengthy in the late game. The portability is fantastic but if you plan on playing this always hooked up to a tv and have a capable pc, it is a better experience on the pc. The controls are good and you can do everything on the switch without too many clicks, but it is just a little bit faster and more intuitive on pc. Great game though and again, so nice to have portably!

This is the first time I have ever played a Civ game but I have always been interested in the series. I tell you this because I do not have any knowledge as to what has been improved or what new additions have been added to the game. This review is specifically for those that are looking for a strategy game to play. This game plays from a top down view although you are allowed to zoom in very closely. I'd compare this game similar to a board game but I want to be careful with that description as its really not like that. You start off with a choosing which leader you want to play as and must claim land to which to build your civilization. Every turn you make decisions as to what you can research to expand your knowledge of new tech or policies. Your cities must be expanded through addition of various buildings that grant benefits such as increasing science. You select what characters to create much in the same manner as rts games and must wait a set amount off turns before you can use them. You can move them around the map to either scout, claim land, or battle cities or other infantry. The game is a very long game though as you start off in BC and go well into the 2000s. It has lots of complexities, which I believe adds many exciting things to do within the game. I'm sorry if I'm confusing or not providing lots of detail but trying to explain how this game works is best left to a video. If you are looking for a game that has lots of replay ability and lets you build a civilization from nothing and see how far you can take them, then I recommend this game.

I love this game! I bought this game for my kids with myself in the back of my mind just in case they didn’t like it, as I’ve played some of the other older Civilization games and in the past. I highly suggest you do the tutorial when you get the game even if you have played previous incarnations of this game. It can be a bit complicated at first having so much information to assimilate but once you get the hang of it you’ll have a blast. My 14 year old loves the game but it’s too much for my 11 year old. He’s not really able to take in the nuances of the game yet. I deducted one star not because of the game itself. That, I give 5 stars! The 4 star rating is because the game does not save correctly and I’ve lost many hours of gameplay. This is as I understand a problem only on the Nintendo version. I’ve researched it and tried every suggestion to correct the problem but to no avail. I went out the other day and purchased the game for PS 4. So far so good The graphics for the game are a bit simple but enjoyable, especially as you interact with other leaders through history. I would definitely recommend that if you enjoy turn based strategy games get this one! Just maybe not on the Switch unless you have no other choice.

It's a great game held back by not the greatest controls. The controls aren't a deal breaker but no where as smooth as controlling it on PC. If your wanting portability that's where this version shines if not I suggest maybe sticking to the computer version.

My biggest issue with this port is that it's missing out on all of the expansions that the PC version has, at least last time I played. That said I can't really deny the charm of Civ 6. Having it on a mobile device is nice. And eats up a lot more of your time as you take just one more turn.

*Warning! Make sure you are willing to give up your precious time for this game!* In all seriousness, this is a fun, if not seriously involved, civilization/simulation. Observing and guiding how the world develops is very entertaining. There is no online element, so if that is your thing look elsewhere. Being on the Switch means it's portable and this is a great feature.

Addictive city building game, but with steep learning curve. This is not a pickup and play sort of game. The gameplay is fun and deep, but all the different menus and options can become very confusing. However, once you get the hang of how to play, it's hard to put down.

The game is really fun and as a long time Civ player it is really nice to be able to play it on the go. However, it still is just not as smooth and fun as playing it on the PC. But, I would say they did a terrific job of bringing it to the switch and rather you are new or returning to Civ if you own a switch this is an excellent buy!

I have been playing Sid Mier’s Civilazation since it was first released in the early nineties. I absolutely love this series. I was very skeptical at first when I saw it had been ported to a console, particularly Nintendo since they are mostly kid like games. But, I was also somewhat excited. I have transitioned from pc gaming to consoles for many reasons and was excited by the possibility of playing Civ on a 55inch tv. But would it be good or flaky? Well, it’s not good, but amazing!!!!! Very easy controls, very simple to navigate, beautiful graphics (especially in 4K HD), and the depth of play is definitely there. All the reports, statistics, information, choices, everything is there and fairly easy to find. I can now sit and relax on my couch or gaming chair in the living room and play my belov d Civ series game. I’m a very happy camper. By the way, it is well worth buying the Nintendo Switch just for this game alone.

This is a fantastic game on its own. Having the ability to take this game on the go makes it even better. I've caught myself on multiple occasions losing all track of the day when I would play for 6 straight hours and it felt like only 30 minutes had passed by.

Love the game. Switch screen is a bit too small to handle all of the menus and it does become quite cluttered from time to time. Still worth the sale purchase price in my opinion. Going to download the add-one sooner or later.
