    Bumpy installation

Due to the heavy volume of sales, Best Buy had to contract the delivery and installation out to XPOLogistics rather than use their own very professional Geek Squad. Unfortunately, XPOL scheduled too many installations for the day and I received a call at 7 pm saying the installation (scheduled for 12 - 6 pm) would not be until 8 pm and would not be finished until 9:30 or 10:00 pm. We rescheduled the delivery/installation for the following week and I was told it would be in the 7 am - 12 pm time slot. That day I received a call saying it really would be 12 - 6 pm as previous. When I complained that the same thing could happen as the previous week I was told that because I was located near the installers I would be last on the schedule so they could go home after my job. Much to the credit of the installers, they decided to deliver my ovens out of sequence. They were not able to complete the installation (through no fault of theirs) because there was a junction box in the cabinet that prevented the ovens from sliding in. I ended up having to hire an electrician ($430) to relocate the junction boxes and complete the installation. It is important to note that the electrician, not the installers, realized that the electrical lines had 40 amp breakers when the manual specifically calls for 20 amp breakers so that the ovens will not be able to draw too much power. The installers had not even checked that. Once installed (by my electrician) the two ovens work perfectly.

I was very impressed with the installation of my wall oven. The installers took great care in my house, described the installation process and answered all my questions. They were exceptional! I am a very satisfied customer!

The Geek Squad coordinated with us in advance, showed up on time, did the work perfectly, demonstrated the result and answered my questions. What more could a customer ask for?

Interior size and lighting are great. Overall exterior design is sleek and attractive. Installation went smoothly once my husband made the necessary cuts in our existing cabinetry.

    Worst appliance install experience

I wanted a Kitchen Aid oven and they were offering through Best Buy a free installation if you bought two Kitchen Aid appliances. We spent $2,600 for a gas stainless steel cook top and 24" stainless steel built-in convection oven. We scheduled the delivery for between 8am and noon on a Tues. At 12:15pm I called the store to see why no one showed up yet. The Best Buy geek squad call center forwarded me to a company called XPO that does installs also for Home Depot. The girl at XPO knew very little, and put me on hold. She called the install guy David and then came back to tell me he was running behind and wanted to reschedule me for between 3pm-5pm. She said my only other option was to reschedule for another day. I agreed to the 3-5pm appointment change. At about 3:15 he called to say he was about an hour away. He finally arrived at 4:10pm. No apologies except to complain he ran into a problem locating a water line under a trailer that was needed for an ice maker. After unboxing the stove top, he disconnected the gas line but said he could not get the old stovetop up. No screws were holding it in place that he could see. He did not want to help me remove the old one because it was a glass top and he said he broke one before and got blamed for it. I had to end up using several kitchen knives and my putty knife for more than 5 min to slowly pry up the old stove by myself as he watched. Come to find out it had been installed with a bead if silicone to hold it down. Note: I'm not a handy man, but here I was doing his job for him. I cleaned up around the opening to make sure the new unit would lay flat, while he stood and watched. When he went to drop in the new unit in, was about about 1/4" too large for the opening. He looked at me with a lost look. I thought the Bestbuy installation included these situations, especially since Bestbuy had me call them the measurements of the old units so they could have the information for a smooth install, as they said. The installer said Bestbuy never calls him with that information. After starring at me as if I was expected to cut the opening myself, I asked him if I need to return the stovetop to Bestbuy because it didn't fit. He finally said he had a saw and he could use to cut it. After returning and cutting the opening he informed me that normally he has to call XPO and get permission to cut and they allow him to set his own price for each cut he makes. He said he normally charges $40 per cut. This cut was about 20" long, so that would have been more than $20 per foot and about 40 sec of time it took him. I bet he charges that all day long to ladies and who have them come out to do the "free" installation. I found what they call an installation is nothing more than unboxing and sliding the new one in place and plugging it in. Now when he goes to do the 24" oven, he has taken the old one out and moved it outside and has the new one unboxed and siting on the kitchen floor before he states he would not be able to install it today because the new one is not as tall as the old one. He says I will have to have a shelf build in the opening and he is not allowed to do that. Maybe that's information Bestbuy should have shared with him and with me. I called the store Manager and let him know how bad both this XPO company is and this installer is and now I have an unfinished install. This was a Tues install and the next day on Wednesday I stayed home and built a shelf to place to the new oven on inside the opening. On Thursday I stopped by Bestbuy after reading the install information provided by Bestbuy and it indicates that some installs might take two trips to finish the job. Ok, I said, no one told me that when I bought to oven, and the installer did not say that when he took the old unit out. I wanted to give Bestbuy a chance to make it right and finish the install, but my request was for them to send out a different tech person to finish the Kitchen Aid oven install, since I didn't trust the guy to do it right. This is on the Thur two days after my scheduled install date. I told him the oven was still on the kitchen floor but we had to go out of town for the weekend so try and let me know something Monday. I tried to be patient and see if or when he would call me back. No follow up on Monday or Tues from Bestbuy. On Wednesday after lunch I gave Bestbuy a call and the manager Marcus was not able to take my call. He told the girl to tell me he had someone checking and they would get back with me. At that point the new Kitchen Aid oven is still on my kitchen floor 8 days after my scheduled install date. That Wednesday afternoon a geek squad regional person called me to get more information and I explained I want the oven installed as promised, I have a shelf built now, but I lost trust in the first installing given his bad work ethic, and would like a different person to complete the electric hookup needed. He said he would contact XPO and see if they can arrange for a different installer. About 5 that afternoon I get a call from an XPO representative who seems to think I had a problem with an install that afternoon. Bestbuy had not shared any of the details with this person, so I went through all the problems again that I had with the first install person (which was news to him) and that the oven is still on my floor. He thought his installer was the only one they had for this whole area. As of today (Saturday) neither XPO or Bestbuy has contacted me and it is now 11 days past my installation date. What was also a surprise to me was that when I mentioned to the installer that I was expecting him between 8am and 12 noon, he said Bestbuy does not know what his scheduled will be that day because he makes his on route that morning before he leaves so he can get the farthest location first so he can back and end his day close to his home. That explained why I was at the end of his day instead of the early morning like Bestbuy scheduled me for. I will not be buying any large appliances from Bestbuy or Home Depot since I found out XPO does the install for both of them. Note sure if the Kitchen Aid oven is good since it's still not installed. If I ever get it installed I will try and do a fair review of the oven itself. I always try to support my local Bestbuy but this experience is plan and simple, poor customer service.

The 24” built-in microwave and 30” trim kit was easy to install. However, be careful when tightening the screws to fasten the trim kit to your cabinet as it is plastic.

    Door Spring Hijacks Oven- Unusable

This microwave is a replacement for a similar GE Profile with a door that popped a spring in the door opening mechanization. Am kicking myself for purchasing a similar model, because this new one has the same issue. It heats and cooks to perfection, but only if you can open the door. The spring inside the door popped out of place in our previous model. Called company recommended by warranty. What a joke. First technician mumbled something in Tagalog about ordering a part. Weeks later, after several phone calls, a second technician asked us where the part was. We said the 1st guy ordered it. In thick Russian accent, he said the 1st guy quit the company and that they were not authorized to order parts. (!?) He got frustrated and left. The warranty company stopped answering our calls. Ordered new microwave from Best Buy; same brand, similar model, same size as original so it would fit our space. Unfortunately the BB delivery guys who dropped off the new microwave took away our face plate. That was a horrible experience- called BB right away and were sent on a wild goose chase to an address that does not exist. 3 hour round trip along a previously unexplored route with steep cliffs on one side. Yikes! Ordered new face plate for $200+. Installer eventually arrives. At this point we’ve been without a microwave for 2 months. Getting good at reheating on stove; thinking maybe we don’t need a microwave after all, but the hole in the wall is ugly. Happy until we try to use microwave. The mechanism inside the spring-loaded door opener is so tight, the door refuses to open. To avoid damage to fingers, have taken to using a can opener as a tool to press on door opener. (See photo.) We keep a jar of disc bearing grease (hubby is car guy) by the microwave to grease the hole where the door latch catches and releases. Grease only lasts a day or two; the blasted hole will be packed with grease soon. (See photo.) Not happy with GE. Disappointed in microwave. Not sure what to do now other than send the whole blasted contraption to the dumps and start over. Hesitate as we have now invested over $1,000 in this piece of junk. Recommendation: Do not purchase this microwave if you expect to cook in it.

    Worst install ever

Best Buy install is the worst. I have had 3 kitchen appliances delivered and installed so far and all three were horrible experiences. 2 of the 3 “charged” me cash on top of what I already paid Best Buy to actually complete what needed to be done. For example, I paid to I stall fridge, but I had a fridge there and needed them to put it in garage, they said they couldn’t touch it unless I wanted to pay them $30 cash. Now for this microwave, the installer also “charged” me $75 to install a plug for the microwave even though I had told them there was no plug there and needed to be hardwired before they came out. He scratched the microwave, my cabinet in 4 places and also ripped the back of my cabinet when he drilled a hole for the electrical. I pointed it out to him. Dead silence. He didn’t even say sorry. I called Customer Service and they didn’t offer me anything. They said they will send someone to look at the cabinet and possibly repair it, but they don’t know when they will come out. Huh? They offered me a $150 store credit for the damaged microwave. What? I don’t want to buy anything else from you, you can’t even fix or make right what I did buy from you.

Nice people but the wiring could have burned my house down. I had to pay 200 dollars to get a licensed electrician to come fix the mess. The oven worked twice and then I got a message on the screen about bad wiring.

Service crew showed up an hour and a half late, but DID call. Once here they tried to install the microwave wave by using attachments included for a 27” opening when it was only 24”. Nick, the lead worker said for an additional $150 they’ll cut the opening. I said no thanks and they high-tailed it out of here. I started reading the directions for install and all they had to do was install it without any attachments. Took me all of 10 minutes and I was done. Never again! The product itself works fantastic and My wife and I are very satisfied with it. Fit perfectly in our opening and started using it right away. Love our Kitchen Aide!

Best Buy hasn’t delivered or installed my purchased microwave that was purchased last December. I’ve been promised the moon but at the last minute something happens. I could go on about the refrigerator, oven and dishwasher but why bother. When you outsource deliveries, installations and lose control over your own products something is wrong. You think you’re saving money by outsourcing but you have lost so much more, customers like me for example. Do you see a microwave in the picture? It is still my twenty two old microwave that came with the house.

Unfortunately, Best Buy used a delivery service that drilled a screw in at an angle and cracked through brand new cabinets. The issue was never resolved. The first oven didn't work, so they returned to remove the oven and ended up cracking the cabinet on the other side where the frame meets the cabinet. There should not be a seam visible between the front trim and the cabinet itself (note pic). Again, the issue was never resolved. They also refused to install the new oven, so I had to pay an electrician. Best Buy refunded the install. Best Buy and their insurance does not cover repairs when their people don't make the delivery and the delivery service has ignored requests from me and Best Buy to make this right.
