Returned this item because the tech who came to install this was unable to do so at the time because it needed an outlet since this model has a cord. Existing garbage disposal was wired. I found a slimmer model for half the price with same specs. at another company.

I installed the Smart Choice 1.25 Horsepower Disposer to replace my smaller hp unit that was at least 8 years old. The 3-bolt mount design appealed to me as I had high hopes that it would be a pretty simple installation. Just in case it wasn't, I bought a garbage disposal installation kit with miscellaneous fittings from one of the big box stores. Fortunately, none of the extra parts were needed and this was a simple swap using the three-bolt mount. The three foot power cord came pre-attached and was plenty long enough to reach my under counter outlet. Even though this unit was physically larger, and more powerful than my previous one, the insulated design makes it very quiet. It operates smoothly and seems to be well-balanced so there's no vibration. The 1.25 horsepower provides all the power you need to grind up even the toughest table scraps. It includes a removable splash guard/protector that's easy to clean and allows you to see down into the unit easily. It can be removed to clean or retrieve dropped items. Also included is a magnetized collar that wraps around the neck of the unit keeping dropped silverware from falling into the blades. I did notice that drainage through the rubber splash guard was very slow, so you might consider trimming the piece to make the hole a little larger - we did. Some folks might not mind this so it's hard to call it a complaint! Overall, a great product and an easy replacement disposal. It wouldn't be too bad as a new install either!

From a slow, noisy, inefficient garbage disposal to a fast, quiet, and ultra-efficient one. It upgraded my kitchen. That’s how I feel. Just imagine moving from a ¾ to a 1 and ¼ HP. But power is not all. Although this is more powerful than what I had, it is also quieter. Excellent quality. Not too complicated to install. I did it on my own and other than going to Home Depot once for a piece of pipe that should have been replaced a long time ago, I had no issues. It was just a replacement anyway. It did take more than an hour to install, but I was not in a hurry and took the opportunity to fix other things under the kitchen sink. I tend not to comment on pricing, but I feel you are getting more than you’re paying for. Although I can’t remember the exact price I paid for the last one, I know I paid more and got a lot less. Again, I’m impressed with the quality. It looks and feel solid and sturdy with great stability. Everything I threw in it was handled nicely and quieter than I expected. With a warranty to back up what I’ve experienced so far, I highly recommend it.

This is a the God of Foods, it destroys everything at the flip of a switch! The Smart Choice Garbage Disposal has 1.25 horsepower of stainless steel blade turning destruction. I already had a 15 year old disposal on its way out so it was time to upgrade. Install was unfortunately for me not a quick swap, I ended up having to bring in a plumber to redo everything, my hopes were dashed but at least it was not too expensive to have everything updated to todays codes as well. The motor is quiet, like whisper quiet compared to my old unit. We have 6 of us in the house and my kids are horrible about throwing everything in the sink instead of scraping it out in the trash first, Well, know this, the 1.25 hp motor with take on whatever your kids throw down there, including a plastic knife, found that out already, I did try out the small chicken bone size it says it can pulverize and yes, it does with ease just a little raise up noise during that. Normal everyday foods like noodles, veggies, fruit peels and more are just zero match for the power of the Smart Choice disposal. Waterflow is still good with this unit, making the draining of your sink just as fast without it, my left and right sinks drain exactly the same speed with this disposal, my old one did not. The warranty of this unit is another great feature, most do not have much of anything in the way of warranties, Smart Choice stands behind their products from what I have read, making the purchase a "Smart Choice." I highly recommend this Smart Choice 1.25 horsepower disposal, to may you cannot beat the quality, the power or the value in total when looking for a food pulverizing unit of destruction like the Smart Choice!

The smart choice food waste disposer is a smart choice. Straight out the the box it feels heavy duty. Solid and well made. I don’t feel any cheap metals or plastics. Which makes me have confidence in how long it will last after we’ve installed it in our kitchen. We have a smaller kitchen than normal but we use our food waste disposer a lot. It is able to handle all the normal things. We clean out plate over the trash can slightly and the rest goes in the sink and I have no issues when running cleaning water and putting dishes in there with food because when I’m done cleaning I’m able to chop all the little things in the water. And safely dispose. It has a simple 3 bolt mounting system. We don’t have a lot of space under the sink which was our main issue with this setup. It’s quite large in comparison to others. make sure you pay attention to the order of the melting system parts. Other than connecting it to the dishwasher this system is fairly easy to mount you just have to make sure you have plenty of space for the proper tubing and connections.

Need new, powerful disposal, this is the one!

For being homeowners for 23 years or so, one thing we've never had to think about was the garbage disposal. Our current one was a 1/3 HP builder grade that was almost 7 years old (yeah, our builder couldn't splurge to get a little more powerful one). It had worked OK, even with one of the grinders being stuck in place after getting some rubber jammed, but felt like a newer, more powerful would serve us better. That's when we chose the Smart Choice 1.25HP Corded Disposer. I've worked with plumbing before (replacing faucets, cleaning out drainpipes, etc.), but just looking at the disposal and how it looks to be installed, I've always been a little wary of doing anything with it. Be aware that the instructions (at least the version we got) don’t follow left-right flow on a page. It will go down first, then up the to the top right of the page to continue (initially was confused on the flow of a couple of the steps until realizing this :). Following the instructions, the removal of the old disposal was simple enough. Although I could have reused the same installation mount as it was similar to the new one, I opted for a clean start (did I mention the old was almost 7 years old?). So, I removed the entire mounting assembly, scraped out the old plumber's putty, and then got to work. The installation was easy, just not entirely quick. Since the new one was much wider at the top where the drain comes out (and much taller, about 4" than our previous one, so definitely check all the dimensions and verify it will fit first before getting this one), I did have to do some slight rearrangement of the drainpipes and also had to cut off the pipe coming from the other side of the sink. Connected the dishwasher drainpipe (which there is a plug that needs to be removed first before the installation process starts). It was nice that this already had a power cord connected, as the previous one did as well and plugged into our air-activated countertop push-button switch system. Please verify how the old disposal was connected to the power, where some are hard-wired to a switch. If needing to reconnect the new one with the hard-wire connection, there are instructions included. Finally, it includes Silver Guard, which is a ring of magnets that is installed underneath around the mount. This is great as it will basically grab any magnetic metal items before it makes it into the splash guard. This will hopefully reduce to zero the number of times one of our small spoons slips in and gets banged up when we turn it on (yeah, it unfortunately has happened quite a few times). When we finally got to using it, we were impressed! Overall, it is much quieter that the previous, with the padding around the unit helping with that (now, we're not saying that it is noiseless, but we would be more willing to turn in on really quick late in the evening when other family members have already gone to sleep). When it is empty, there is an initial quick "clank" where the anti-jam swivel impellers swing into place. Since this new one is almost 4-times as powerful, the difference when using it is quite noticeable. There hasn't been any bogging down and most of the time, we can't even tell there was anything in there. It mentions that it handles small bones, which we have never, ever tried with the old one (and probably still won't be with this one). It even mentioned that it could grind the plastic dishwasher connector plug if it wasn't removed after being knocked out, but it might take a little while. Of course, there are many things that shouldn't be put into it, and it give an initial list of things it will not grind at the bottom of page 11 (which also includes… feathers??!?). The only thing we're not fond of is the design of the splash guard/baffle. Water doesn't seem to flow down as easily, unless you have the water stream going directly into it. I basically hate the sound of water, so I position it to hit down the side of the center divider, which makes it quieter for me. Doing it this way, the water builds up and swirls. Since we really wouldn't want to modify it, such as cutting bigger holes, I've found some other replacement that have the staggered design we liked from our previous one. Luckily, the new one is removeable, so it would be easy to replace. So, if you're ready to replace your older and/or less powerful disposal, measure under your sink, and if it will fit, definitely put this one on the top of your list!

    Powerful and easy to install

I have seen in the past that apparently most garbage disposals are made by just a few entities even though they are generally sold under different brands. Opening the box for this Smart Choice 1.25hp unit gave me substantial evidence that may well be true. The now 8 year old disposal I am replacing with this one is actually identical to it in every way except the exterior color. Same physical design, same size, same power, and even the sound and function are identical. That’s actually a good thing since I really liked my old unit, and it makes me sure that this one will last many years and function very well. Install is incredibly easy, it uses the same 3 bolt flange that is commonplace on garbage disposals, so much so that you can potentially use the existing one on your sink or the one it includes. You then hook it onto the flange, insert the splash guard, hook up the drain pipe, and plug it in. If you are using a dishwasher, punch out the dishwasher drain plug and hook it up. As far as install goes, I found it unfortunate that it only included a 90 degree drain line attachment rather than a straight one which is what I needed for my drain line setup, but I had one already so I reused it. This disposal is also very large and may require some reworking of your drain lines to make room for it to fit if you either don’t already have one of a similar size or are installing one for the first time. Otherwise, it was easy and it works exactly the way it’s predecessor did. Fairly quiet, and does what it’s meant to with plenty of food grinding power.

Our old disposal that we replaced this with is what came with our house 32 years ago. We still used it but it was so noisy and loud and weak that it would often stay clogged up. It got to the point where we just don't use it anymore and have a 'catcher' instead to then dispose of in the garbage bin. This Smart Choice garbage disposal has changed our lives for the better, and forever. I wish we had this 32 years ago. First off, the sound difference is scarily amazing. It's really really quiet in comparison to the roaring of our old disposal where you know that it's on because of how loud it is. So this can be both a good and bad thing, because since it's so quiet, one may not realize it's even on! But that's where the magnetism takes place. I did not know something like this could exist, and I don't even think it's noticeably advertised. In the past, a utensil may accidentally fall into the sink hole and I'd have to carefully pry it out. Now, it's possible that the utensil will be caught along the side to prevent this from happening. I know that the description of this says you can grind even small bones, but I don't know if I want to test that. We still have the mentality of using it the last amount possible, but it's nice knowing that we have something new that we can rely on. Afterthought: installation was also a breeze. Didn't need to hire anyone, was able to figure it out myself. They made it really easy to replace.
