The songs on the first disc are very personal with better lyrics than the last U2 effort, strong vocals and some good guitar work from the Edge. The bonus CD gives you a couple of studio tracks, accoustic versions of the tracks from disc one and a hidden version of Invisible.

The songs are every bit as melodic and punchy as other U2 releases. Good one to own. Why did it take 5 years? I just don't hear it, but I'm not U2 either. Get the deluxe. You actually get six songs in the "Acoustic Sessions" track. Also "The Crystal Ballroom" is pretty good.

Songs of innocence is a different album from U2. It has lots of energy, both emotional energy and physical. The delux album offers acoustic songs from the original album which are fantastic. The new songs are worth it on there own.

Although it may be tainted in some people's minds by the Apple giveaway, this is U2's best album since at least All That You Can't Leave Behind. Just an amazing collection of songs that I can't wait to hear live this year!

As always, the band is mindful, poetic, brilliant.....stands alone, even after all these years. Timeless, epic music, songwriting...this is what music is all about.

Songs Of Innocence does not go to places U2 has never gone before, but I like it. I would rather have this collection than no new U2 music at all.

There is some good to great music on the release..it does stand up to repeated listening..but not sure if there is any real "classic" U2.

U2 continues to write and perform music that meets expectaions. Some differences from vintage songs, but still classic U2.

U2 just continued on, from where they left off after the last album. Give it some time and you too can enjoy it!

Best U2 album in 14 years

U2's "Songs of Innocence" has been unfairly maligned by many music critics and the public at large, I think likely due to its controversial initial distribution. Which is a real shame, because "Songs of Innocence" is easily their strongest album since their 2000 classic "All That You Can't Leave Behind." While U2 sound no longer concerned with revolutionizing the musical landscape, they seem much more interested in revisiting the violent environment that informed their "Boy" through "War" era and drove them to be the band they became - which the band does with unsettling focus and tight attention to lyrical detail. U2 is still the ultimate postpunk band at heart, a concept mostly frowned upon nowadays but needed now more than ever. Though "Songs of Innocence" was initially distributed for free, it is well worth every penny (though this 2-CD deluxe edition is more for serious fans). Do U2 and yourself a favor and buy the album.

My personal review of U2's Songs of Innocence & Songs of Innocence +. There are songs on the album that are immediate favorites, such as The Miracle, Every Breaking Wave, Volcano, Raised By Wolves, Lucifer's Hands, and Invisible, which had been released earlier as a single. I loved each and every one of those instantly. The rest of the album is equally amazing after a few listen throughs, until it gets to where you aren't sure which are your absolute favorites anymore. I'm fairly new to the whole U2 thing, not really having listened to anything since the Joshua Tree, until I met my spousal unit. Now I'm pretty familiar with U2. This album really speaks to me. Honestly I think Invisible has replaced With or Without You as my favorite U2 song to date. If you haven't ever been much into U2 or were thinking about checking them out, I highly recommend this album. It's awesome!!!!
