I'm a fairly technical person. I've been in systems/networking for 15+ years. The initial QuickStart setup failed so I called SONOS customer support. It took ~45 minutes to get a support technician on the phone. He was good and a decent fellow, but the remediation protocol consisted of factory reset, power cycle, un-plug, replug ethernet, uninstall, re-install application on the phone, etc. Several iterations of each. This feels like not even a "beta" product, but more of an "alpha" product. FYI, the QuickStart setup instructions are a simple 1-pager, with no further details. That leads one to believe that either a) this is a dead-simple and flawless product to set up or b) they are being eco friendly and provide the actual instructions online. I found theory A to be absolutely false. They may have good instructions online, but I didn't easily find them by searching Sonos' support site. I let the support guy off the phone once I seemingly was able to connect to the Play:1 speaker, and I thought i was in the clear. But then, it prompted me to update the firmware (a 30+ minute process, which ultimately failed). Mind you, I have this speaker hard-wired (cat 5e ethernet cable that came with the speaker) into my router, so we can't blame 804.11/WIFI protocols for the update or setup failure (note, some WIFI is not supported, e.g. 5 Ghz bands). Here's the rest of the message that I emailed to SONOS support (which I NEVER received a reply from): setup did not complete successfully. Once I was able to connect to the Play:1, and label it as "living room", the controller application prompted me that the firmware on the Play:1 needed to be updated before first use. I went through the wizard to update the firmware on the Play:1, and it downloaded and started to update the firmware. After several minutes, it gave me a message "update failed" (or similar). I was not able to connect to the speaker again after multiple attempts. It is still ethernet-wired into my router at this point. I also re-enabled the legacy 2.4 wifi on my FIOS router and connected my iPHONE to that network, which the Play:1 is also hard-wired ethernet to that router. I went through the factory-reset and tried to connect and setup the Play:1 as a new device to no avail. Multiple resets later, I can't connect to the speaker at all. I'm really disappointed. Sonos had come highly recommended to me, but this device I got is a buggy piece of excrement. I'm not going to bother trying to configure the second Play:1 I bought, I'm just going to return them both to Best Buy.

Speakers were not crisp, clear, and have very limited sound range. I wanted to like them but at the end of the day the Bose sound touch 10 for the same price has way better sound. I first saw these speakers in the parade of homes. I thought they were so cool. I than kept seeing commercials for them and after they went on sale I finally decided to get a pair. I set these speakers up, one on the first floor, and the second in the downstairs and both on their own echo dot so that I could wirelessly control them from either room. I really liked that feature. It made them at first seem really cool. That is until I started actually listening to the sound quality. I was really disappointed. Espesically after reading about the "great" sound quality others spoke about. Not true though. They must have never invested in nice speakers because these Sonos sounded terrible. More like low quality desktop computer speakers. My headphones, computer speakers, and car speakers are way better than these. Even my tv puts out a better full range sound. I returned the Sonos and exchanged them for the Bose Sound Touch 10 to try and see if they were any better. Now I am very happy with my decision. The Bose proved a richer fully range sound with crisp high range, super clear mid range, and even enough base to confuse you on were it's coming from. The Sonos doesn't come close. I would not recommend wasting your money on the Sonos and instead get some other speakers you really like. After all you are buying them to listen to right. They better provide a great sound than.

    Terrible Sonos App

I have about a dozen Sonos speakers Play:1s, 3s, 5s. They sound great. Sonos makes great hardware. That's not the problem. I've used Sonos for a few years now, and for the longest time I was an evangelist. I would tell anybody who would listen what a great product it was. Those days are over, and it's not the hardware. Before you buy, go read some of the reviews of the Sonos app. It has been in a steady decline for about a year. It is now just plain terrible. On top of everything they are now requiring you to setup a Sonos account to use it. It would seem everybody is complaining, I just don't think Sonos cares. They are now in the business of chasing information about their users. It's very disappointing. I think I speak for a sizable percentage of the population when I say. Guys, we don't want dumb features, we don't want you using our information, we just want great music and we want it simple.

Two days later I returned it. Easy set up yet took me 35 mins to get at least pandora running. Issues/cons: 1Difficult to set up unlike Bluetooth connection 2Won’t work with my downloaded music apps 3 Won’t work with internet stations I listen to daily ( instructed to use PC and use URL bla bla bla ) 4 last when I finally was able to play my iPhone music list (songs purchased through iTunes) every song jumped/skipped to the next song in the middle of the playing song. To test/compare this, I turned off my sonos and use my other brand speaker (via Bluetooth) and not once dealt w this issue. This product is a big disappointment. If only it was Bluetooth compatible and not wi fi I think we’d have a winner hear. Was totally pleased w sound and price by the way. Hey sonos check out the boss sound touch 10, it is wi fi AND Bluetooth. Hope you take notes!

Not sure how everyone claims these speakers are great. 1. I have two Sonos Ones. The one in my kitchen gets dropped by Sonos every month. We add in back in and it works fine and then magically gets dropped. We talk with their customer service and reboot everything from scratch and still have the same problem a few week later. 2. The Alexa works only 30% of the time and we are talking about the most simplest commands like "turn off", "turn volume lower", "play xyz station" or "shut off". Because of this we gave up using Alexa. 3. The sonos App is not easy to add stations onto. A lot more work than it should be. I give the app a two star rating as well.

After having my $2500 worth of Sonos speakers for 2 months now, I cannot express how much I hate the Sonos ecosystem, especially after having used the Amazon Alexa system. Ease of set? Ha! Customer support? Hahahahahaha!!!! The only support is on weekdays (to afford these speakers most of us have to work during those same hours). Price? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Other than the sound quality, there is absolutely nothing good to say about Sonos. The app is the absolute worst and at least weekly I am plagued with issues. Today's issue: I simply updated my wifi router keeping the same login name and password but the Sonos ecosystem cannot locate or allow me to reset. I shall not shed a tear when Sonos goes out of business.

For the better part of a year Sonos has known about the problems with streaming from your phone and done nothing to rectify the issues. They sell these products and claim that you can play music straight from your phone and still take phone calls and use your phone as you normally would. This IS NOT the case. Music will constantly skip your songs while playing from your phone. There is no fix for this and Sonos will just offer excuses when you contact support. Sonos speakers are VERY EXPENSIVE and DO NOT OPERATE the way that they claim they will. Don’t get suckered into these products and flush money down the toilet. DO NOT BUY SONOS!!!!

Very long arduous process to setup initially, including waving your phone around the room like an idiot while the speaker plays sci-fi noises. Then I discovered that although it is technically compatible with Apple Music, you can’t play your music directly from the Apple app at all. You have to play using the Sonos app which is NOT the same at all and does not echo all the same functionality. This is a very clumsy kluge at best. The final kicker is that there is entirely too much low end (bass). I had to turn the bass all the way down just to make it tolerable, and it’s still too much. There’s a lot more to complain about but these are the major things . This junk goes back to Best Buy tomorrow. Looks like I will have to buy real audiophile speakers after all.

I will start with saying that I have been a huge Sonos fan and own 6 different speakers for around my home. For many years I would passionately tell my friends about this great company and product. Over the past year or so I started having problems with the music randomly cutting out and skipping tracks. I contacted customer support (which in the past was awesome) and they were totally inadequate at solving my problem. I still have the issue with no resolution. Additionally, I started researching the problem on the internet and apparently I am not the only person complaining of this issue. As a result, I can no longer recommend this product.

Let me start by sayibg the soubd quality is great. However, the app and control of the system is terrible. The music selection interface is difficult to use and confusing and you can't access what you would like to. You should be able to connect to Sonos from each individual music app, kind of like the chromecast, but they put it all in one and not very well. And no matter what music I put on it always skips backwards and replays the last 30 seconds. I haven't been able to listen to a full song through. The Sonos system was a good idea in theory but I think it's a huge waste of money now. Would not recommend to a friend.

I think a bluetooth speaker is much more flexible than the Sonos. Here are the issues that I had: Wouldn’t connect to my Wi-Fi extender, No direct support of AirPlay, can't stream any audio source like you can with Chromecast or AirPlay, you must stream thru the Sonos app, Sonos app UI looks clunky and if you use Spotify you need to subscribe to the paid version (can't use free version like you can with AirPlay or Chromecast or any other Bluetooth speaker). The sound was decent but the issues above caused me to return the speaker.

Sonos devices are controlled almost totally by wifi apps you have to install on your smartphone, tablet or PC. Before buying, go look at the ratings for the Sonos app in the Apple app store. It's very binary, Some high review then split to the bottom with a large number of low ratings. I bought this, ran great initially then had an mandatory update for the control app and system, now I can't control or even see the Play 1, apparently have to reset and restart totally from scratch entering all my data, music info and accounts again. If I can reset it. This appears pretty common; see the app store for other's experiences

BUYER BEWARE! If you purchase this speaker with the intent of playing music from your ITunes library be forewarned that any songs you purchased prior to 2009 will not play. I have googled the problem and there is a fix it you want to subscribe and pay for Itunes plus and go through a very complicated process. Otherwise, songs downloaded prior to 2009 appear greyed out on your song list. ALSO, the app that comes with this will not let you save a song list from your mobile device. Do your homework before you invest in this product or you will be sorely disappointed. I'm returning it ASAP......

When I moved into my new place I purchased speakers for three rooms and one for my TV. I have them for years. I wish I hadn't purchased them. About every six weeks I have to spend time resetting up the WiFI systems again so I can use the speakers. In addition, it never goes as it is supposed to, there is always some glitch in setting it up. It has gotten to the point where I just take my lap top from room to room. Look for my speakers on Craig's List.

Good Sound, but the worst software ever

Save your money. A terrible investment. Wish I never bought the System. More than half my library of music is unplayable unless you have latest iTunes compatible download. The software upgrade process is horrific. They should call it a downgrade then an upgrade as they lose good functionality with every new app update that the system forces you to download. Now they are pushing Spotify as the default music library. I Wish I just bought the Bose system.

Not sure why everyone loves Sonos. I bought the Sonia 1 and the sound is so flat it's not even funny. So I thought I have a defective one, before going back to v Best Buy for exchange I bought the Sono 3 and it also sounded flat, Lack of bass and the bass sounded distorted. So I returned the Sono 3 and end up keeping the Sono 1. However I am quite disappointed with Sonoas performance.

I bought this product believing I could connect anything to it and play media. Games, Movies and Music. However that is not the case It seems this is strictly for music. If you want to play Media you need a line going into it. So if you enjoy watching Youtube, Or want to use this as a computer speaker for things besides music apps that Sonos declares as acceptable . Than this product isnt for you... Im going to return it tomarrow.

The concept of this is great but for the price I really expected a lot more from this product. Setup isn't as easy as they make it out to be. The quality of the audio is fine for music but try watching a movie or some tv with this and you'll notice this isn't that great of a product. Especially with other options out there from Apple, Amazon and Google.

Works great if you barely use it. Under full use by six people as a bathroom speaker it is absolute crap! It doesn't even include bluetooth! At this price point it should. Wifi connections are spotty at best. We have an excellent router and several access points and the sonos still spontaneously just disconnects. Woiuld be 5 stars if it were priced right at $25.
