Customers are saying

Customers recognize the Roam Smart Portable Speaker's impressive sound quality, portability, and surprisingly large sound for its compact size. Many appreciate its ease of setup and Bluetooth connectivity, along with its water resistance for outdoor use. However, some users point to inconsistencies in battery life and occasional difficulties with charging. A few also mention that the volume could be improved and that the price point may be high for some consumers.

    Super Convenient Portable Speaker

I love this Sonos speaker! It is such a convenient size and lightweight to take with you wherever you go! It’s waterproof so you can take it to the pool, and it has decently loud volume as well! One of my favorite features of this Sonos speaker, is that it has Wi-Fi, so you can stream your favorite music services without having to use Bluetooth from your phone, and you can control it with your voice. Bluetooth is still an agaioable option as well, of course.

Move over Boise there' a new kid in town

Not much to not like about this speaker. Easy setup and sound is excellent. The ability to have stereo mode by pairing two is excellent and improves the already good sound to another level. Distinct stereo sound separation is very noticeable greatly enhancing music enjoyment. So far I have pairs in kitchen, family room and office. Really cool walking room to room never missing whatever is playing. We stream all day long and they never drop the music source. We effortlessly bounce between SiriusXM, YouTube Music, Pandora and Amazon Prime music sources. Nice we can setup separate streams to different rooms too. We recently hosted an outdoor party spread across our large backyard with these speakers spread around in those areas too. The Sonos app made it easy to DJ music selections during the party. The beauty of these Wi-Fi speakers is they aren't beholden to your phones blue tooth connection with it’s distance limitation. I should mention a solid wireless network setup is a must to take advantage of this speaker’s capabilities. My setup is a Netgear Orbi Tri-band Mesh Wi-Fi 6 system with two Satellites. The Sonos Roam speakers connect on the 5Ghz band which provides more than enough throughput. Lately I’ve been into home automation using Google Nest Hub Max, EZWIZ DB1C video doorbell, Kasa smart switches and light bulbs. This means lots of network connections (56 and counting). Even with all of these devices hanging out on my network, the Sonos Roam speakers don’t skip a note. There isn’t any perfect product but some come close. That’s the way I feel about Sonos Roam. My wish list would be purchase included a charger and the stereo pairing wouldn’t break when the speaker senses loss of charging power. With portable speakers, sound, size and features are king. Look out Boise, there is a new kid and town and it’s a bully compared to your aging product capabilities. You might be wondering if I was paid to write this or benefited by this review. The answer is no. One of my hobbies is exploring new technologies and products and I like to share my findings with fellow enthusiast.

I bought the Sonos Move 2 weeks prior to the release of the Roam... Once I realized that the Sonos-Roam was more resistant to weather conditions I returned the Move. I'm testing the Roam now.... Great sound from this little creature!!! I have all the Sonos products or have tested them. I bought a pair so I could create a Stereo Pair. Just Beautiful Sound. This one easily compares to the Sonos One, but I can take it with me Outside with no worries!!!! I love Sonos!!!

First day playing different songs and styles. For the size, the sound is awesome! All the reviews from various tech sites were pretty spot on. I'm amazed how good this sounds. Set up was super easy like any other Sonos speaker. If you already have a Sonos speaker, this is a no brainer. I've included some pictures to provide size scale against an Arc, Beam, Move, Ikea Symfonisk lamp, Sony SRS-XB32, and Starbucks Venti cup.

I mainly use this as my computer speaker. I had a Bose mini Soundlink II, but it has finally died. RIP. I wanted to have a desktop speaker that was roughly the same size but with equal sound. Overall the sound is pretty good, but the Bose sound much better with deeper bass. As for the Sonos app. It just stinks. I have a pair of Sonos One, Move (DO NOT BUY) , and now Roam and there's always an issue with the app not recognizing them. Even now with the Roam. It still can't connect and I've tried everything.

This is a great little portable speaker. Sounds a lot cleaner than my Sony X23 and Bose SoundLink Color 2. May not get as loud as them, but very loud for its size. Can take it anywhere in the home on Wifi. The wireless charging is great. Can place it on any of my pads at home and it will charge. Love the voice control set up on it. Can use either Alexa, Google, or it’s own Sonos voice assistant. Bluetooth is great, but was a hassle to first set it up. Cons for the speaker is you need the app and be on wifi to first set up. Hope on future updates will change that.

Familiar Sonos Sound in a portable speaker

Overall, I am very happy with the Sonos Roam. It sounds great with a nice depth in the audio quality that you don't usually get in Bluetooth speakers of this size. We have 5 Sonos Ones placed throughout our house and the Roam sounds just like the One. It's just a heck of a lot smaller and more portable. I'm using the Roam mostly as an everyday speaker in a small home office and I really appreciate the sound and ease of use when using Spotify and the Roam. I can go back and forth between my phone and laptop seamlessly to change music adjust volume etc. In a large group setting others are able to also access the device in Spotify, so DJ'ing can be done pretty easily. Because it is Wifi enabled, I can access this speaker along with my other speakers and link them up as necessary. I have two do things I don't like. The vagueness of the power button. I wish it was more mechanical or had an audio beep or something to let you know it was on. Half of the time I can't tell you if it is on or not when trying to turn it on. Secondly, I wish the USB-c plug it came with, was a magnetic connector, not a plug-in to the device. The plug is a 90-degree plug that gives it a nice low-profile look when plugged in, but this is the same design as many of the magnetic plugs. Because it looks like it is a magnetic plug, I try to "unplug" it like a magnetic plug. When I add a wireless charging pad, then this will be a non-issue. Color: I purchased the Best Buy "white". Sonos calls it "lunar white". Don't be confused, it's really just a light gray. I think the Roam is a good speaker for someone who wants great sound out of a small speaker with the advantage of it being portable and durable. I think it excels in small group or solo listening sessions where background noise can't overtake the device. If you expect a premium sound out of your Bluetooth speaker and are okay with a premium price, then the Roam could be a good speaker for you. I plan to use it every day in my office and it will be my grab-and-go speaker for outdoor adventures.

Sonos knocked it out of the park with this portable speaker. Great sound and excellent quality. I will say this is perfect for a small portable speaker for the deck, by the pool or the beach. I wouldn’t recommend this for in your home for music. Other speakers will fill up the room better. My only complaint is that I wish it came with a case or jacket when transporting it.

I have Sonos speakers throughout my house. I already had one Alexa-enabled one in the main living area, so I put this one in my bedroom. It's really nice to be able to use voice control in both areas. The unit itself is lovely. I appreciate the smaller scale and the light color; it looks very nice in the room. It was very easy to add to my existing Sonos system and it works exactly as I knew it would. I'm a big Sonos fan anyway, and this was a great addition.

Great sound, deep bass but balanced highs make it very easy to listen to all genres of music! Makes a great job site speaker, tough exterior shell with no exposed buttons makes it easy to use if wearing gloves. Clear crisp sound. Five Star Rating here!

The Sonos Roam is a very versitile addition the the Sonos system. It's small but packs a decent punch for its size. It is solidly built and is water resistant. You can use it off grid on bluetooth on the go and at home on wifi integrating into the rest of your Sonos speakers. Considering getting two so I can pair in stereo on wifi. Wireless charging is a great feature, but the QI charger is sold separately. No problem I have plenty of wireless chargers laying around that work. Another interesting feature is the bluetooth bridging. On bluetooth you can stream the bluetooth source to the rest of your Sonos speakers. Can't wait to use it on upcoming trips! Picture is the Roam next to the Sonos Move for scale.

The speaker is great when it works. However, there is a known issue where the speaker will not charge. The bottom light stays orange while charging but will not turn on. I own two Sonos Roams and this happened to the other one as well. Unfortunately, the second one is outside the warranty period so Sonos will not replace it, even after a series of diagnostic tests with them stating it is defective. I use the Sonos wireless charger & Sonos charging brick. This happened with Sonos OEM products. Not sure I'll purchase a new one to replace this one. Do your research online as this is a known issue. How Sonos is managing it is not in loyal customers best interest in my opinion. Buyer beware. Purchased Oct 2021 & stopped working Nov 2022.
