We apologize for the frustration you're having with the remote setup, and this is typically an easy fix. Please try a simple remote reset by removing the batteries, pressing and holding the Power button on the remote for three seconds to discharge any remaining power, and then inserting a fresh set of batteries. If the issue persists, the remote may need to be formally paired: try pressing and holding both the Volume Down button and the Mic button simultaneously for about three seconds to initiate Bluetooth pairing.
