Though expensive and initial buyers remorse (for the price), this television has exceeded my expectations. With no adjustments, the picture quality, color and clarity is AMAZING. Watching 3D movies is a real treat and the picture is every bit as good as at the theatre.

Easy to set up, but requires two strong men to install on wall. Heavy TV, but is worth it. Picture is beautiful and speakers are wonderful. We do not use our home theater receiver when watching normal TV, so speakers were a must. Have had a 46" Sony Bravia for years and it is still going strong, which is the reason I bought another larger one, and put the smaller one in a bedroom.

Sony did it again. Another great line up was produced this year by Sony. The X940C is their flagship model for 2015 and although skeptical at first, I have been nothing less than amazed at what this TV can do. I was very hesitant at first with the Android TV feature but it is incredibly easy to use and hands down the best smart tv platform I have ever used. The full array backlighting makes this TV look incredible. The contrast is out of this world. It has all three of Sony's technologies from the XReality Pro chip and X-1 processor, the Triluminos display, and Extended dynamic range pro. If you are looking for an awesome 4K experience, I highly recommend this TV. I compared it to the top of the line Samsungs and Sony has this technology down pat.

The detail, color and contrast on this TV is amazing - if you love video you should buy it - don't let the speakers bother you - I connected it to my ATMOS system and haven't noticed them since

Picture and Sound Spectacular. Android a disaster

I've had the 940C for a while now and have enough experience with it to provide a review. The up front summary: the picture and sound are outstanding, while the Android operating system is a disaster. If it wasn't for the Android system, there is no question that this would be a 5 star review. Before I bought the TV I researched the daylights out of high end 4K TVs and came down to the Samsung 9000 and this TV (I did not consider the LG OLED TV because it wasn't big enough). I ultimately decided on this TV due to the sound and it's highly rated upscaling engine. Picture I have Comcast cable and high speed internet, Netflix, Amazon Prime, and a Roku model 4 streaming unit. Have watched movies in both the Netflix and Amazon apps, and YouTube 4K videos (at 60 fps), and a limited amount of 4K on the new Roku unit. Picture quality is nothing less than astonishing. Contrast is excellent and saturation is superb. A few of the 60 fps videos streamed on YouTube are just jaw dropping in clarity, color and smooth picture. Unlike my old big screen that had a 60 MHz clock, the 120 MHz clock results in no pixelization while watching sports. Given that more than 90% of what we'll be watching will be in 1080 for some time, I was particularly interested in a good upscaling engine. The 940C does a terrific job in that regard. Of course it's not 4K, but it's at least as good as my old 1080p TV. We watched Transformers on Netflix in 4K not because we were all that interested in the movie, but just to see how 4K looked. We just stared at the TV, and it wasn't the movie. I've played around quite a bit with the picture settings, and would say that the out of the box settings are quite good, though others may prefer other settings. I've also played some 4K home video recorded from my camera, via a USB thumb drive plugged into the TV, and the video streamed without difficulty and looked good. Note: the Roku model 4 does a very good job of streaming 4K, but it needs a firmware update because there is way too much magenta in the skin tones. Sound Most big TVs have poor sound, because there is no room for speakers on flat TVs. This TV is famous for its giant size, built to accommodate the speakers it has. I have a home theatre system but don't want to turn it on all the time. Since I got the 940C, I rarely turn it on,, because the sound on this TV is just so good...even better than than my home theatre system. The sound on this TV is just awesome! The TV has a neat feature that allows you to stream audio while having the picture turned off, which is pretty cool and very usable. If you are thinking about this TV because you want the highest quality sound you can get out of a TV, this has to be it. Android TV A TV that costs $7000 should not be a bug magnet. Well, Google's Android TV is an unmitigated disaster. There have been problems with some apps like YouTube or Amazon Prime not launching, supposedly due to a poor internet connection, while the Netflix app will work fine, and while I could run them on the Roku. I even added a Wifi extender and that made no difference (even with the wifi extender my internet clocks at 45-50 MB, and over 100MB without it). There have been occasions when my cable signal won't be recognized at all, even though some other inputs and apps will work. FYI, I have brand new high speed HDMI 2.0 capable cables all around. I have had to restart the Android operating systems on many, many occasions, enough that it is beginning to drive me crazy. Hence, the 4 stars on this TV, which would unquestionably otherwise be an enthusiastic 5 stars. I almost didn't buy this TV because it uses Android ("Google, where we sell you to others at our profit" and yes I get the irony of the 4K videos on YouTube), but was sold on the picture and sound. Now, I've had my doubts, the operating system is such a mess. SONY - you need to fix this decision to use Android now, before it's too late. One other point. I've experienced problems with the remote control not working all the time, which is silly on a TV in this price range. The touch remote works fine but has limited functionality. This is not a TV to use without a remote and I'll have to get it replaced.

I have had the Samsung JS9500, Sony X930C, Panasonic X800U, and the LG EF9500 OLED. I can tell you that this TV tops them all. They all had their great points, but Sony has taken them all and made this TV great at just about everything. The OLED had great Blacks, but it's upscaling and motion were very bad. LG is not on par when it comes to those things. The Samsung was great, but the curve reflected to much light for my living room, but the upscaling was great. The blacks were very good, but far behind the OLED. So I finally grabbed the X930C and was amazed. It took all of what I was liking in the others and combined them into one. Yes blacks were not as dark as the OLED, but darker than the Samsung. The only reason I took back the X930C was to go for this bad boy. I got the X940C for such a great price I couldn't pass it up. Full array local dimming and 75"!! All this TV did was make the blacks even better than the X930C which were not even close to bad in the first place. I professionally calibrate TV's and have calibrated each one of the TV's in this post. Calibration did this TV wonders. If Sony would have incorperated a Color Management System it would be dang near be perfect. For price vs. size vs. features, you can't go wrong with the X940C. Sony finally got their 4K full array sets right with this one and on par with what they had done in earlier years with their 1080p full array like the XBR HX950. You won't want to return your set once you've bought this one.

I had the 79inch XBR UHD, but after a year I got some ghosting effect on dark scenes. Sony improved this with backlighting instead of the side lights on the prior model. The picture and sound is a big improvement over last years model. I've had the new model for 4 months. It has been fantastic.

Purchase the Sony x940c after researching 4k tv's for almost 3 years. I was hesitant to buy because of the rapid change of technology in the 4k world. Finally decided on the Sony over comparable Samsung models and LG OLED sets. Could not be happier with this TV. Previously I owned a Pioneer Kuro HDTV which is still considered one of the best tv's ever made. The Sony, despite being an LCD/LED tv, matches the Pioneer plasma in terms of the deepness of its blacks and it blows the Pioneer away in terms of richness of color and overall clarity. I am deeply impressed with virtually all aspects of this TV with one exception: the user documentation available from Sony totally sucks! You pretty much have to figure things out on your own and do a lot of research to realize the full potential of this set.

This is a 75" beauty whether on or off. I love the all black finish. Really looks upscale as it should at its price point. Black levels are superb and is to me the closest to the black levels on the LG OLED. I original purchases a SamSung 65 inch but returned it as it was not large enough plus the pic quality was not up to my standards. The Sony on the other hand is excellent in all areas as far as color saturationis, screen uniformity is excellent, future proof as it is HDR compatible. Words cannot describe how impressed I am with this set. The full array back lighting works really great in preserving the integrity of the picture when there are scenes in a movies you see the deep black shades without the picture washing out. Colors are rich with great separation. Best tv on the market.

I had shopped for more than one year for a television upgrade and this model makes it all worthwhile. The picture quality on HD video is absolutely amazing due to the upscaling by Sony. The biggest surprise was the sound on this television. I have also upgraded by home theatre system, but the sound on this tv is more than adequate for normal viewing. At this point, after a couple of weeks, I am very satisfied with the purchase.

Sony Sony what a tv. The android system is incredible. The updates are time consuming. But I can live with that. The picture is incredible. The sports are like I'm right there in stadium. I have had Panasonics, mitsubishi and Samsung tvs . none of those tvs come close to this tv. Sony has a new customer for life. With tvs like this.

No exaggeration best image quality on a TV I've ever seen and I have owned other "top of the line" sets and high end projectors. Color reproduction and blacks are beyond amazing. HDR content (available via amazon prime, new Ultra HD blue rays coming out in 2016) makes 4K really stand out and gives this TV a "better than OLED" picture quality. Future proofed with the latest HDMI 2.0 (18G) level A standard, HDR (Hihg dynamic range), FALD (full array local dimming) , VP9 decoding (the new google standard and now used by youtube and potentially other streaming services in the future), VA Panels... i could go on with the technical details but in reality just do yourself a favor and go see it in person in a properly calibrated set (best buy sets usually arent). Its not cheap, but its the best.

After reading online reviews about the Sony XBR-75X940C and going to the BestBuy store to do more comparison with other TVs, I'd figured if I'm going to get a 75" TV, I should dish out the extra cash to get the best on the market. Let me tell you, this TV is worth every penny and doesn't disappoint. Right out the box, this TV's color calibration was perfect. Setup was extremely easy and navigating through the menus were a breeze. The speakers on this TV is amazing. Good balance of highs, mids and lows. Makes me wonder if I even needed to buy a soundbar. At the end of the day, it's a good feeling to have knowing that this is the best that it gets.

This is a truly spectacular television that comes with one of the worst manuals for any piece of electronics I have ever seen. The television menus are complex. Set up is complex. Options such as the blue tooth keyboard are complex. The controls are less than intuitive including the oddly named “Wide” button. The bottom line here is that a purchaser is very likely to need phone support for even basic operation of the TV. Telephone support from Sony is not available 24/7. The manual available online is far less than helpful. If you buy this television (and you probably should) you need to be prepared for a rather frustrating first month of ownership while you figure out what button corresponds to which function and make repeated calls to Sony to address >>>BASIC<<< issues like native formatting and why there isn’t a setting called “Native Formatting”. This is a magnificent television. Using it ought to be so simple and Sony, though inadequate documentation, has made it so hard.

This TV is incredible. I did lots of research and had narrowed it down between this and the new Vizio. Seeing them side by side in the store it was a tough call, but I trusted the spec sheet. Seeing them calibrated in a home environment (mine and someone else's) I know I made the right call. Even 1080p blurays are better than ever with the upscaling the TV does. Blacks are absolute, colors are just right. Couldn't be happier with this TV.

The key to this tv is while a plasma kuro is a great display, and it has a picture as good as any for years and years. That said, the new Sony 75 inch beauty is from a different place, it basically has a brain that helps it update itself with the best new technology available. Thus, it will always be able to improve itself, as well as fight off weakness. The picture is crazy good. The sound is easily the best of any TV I have ever heard, but they are Hi res speakers, and i use the wireless subwoofer. Plus the sound gets better every day as does the picture, Guess now it will come down to reliability and tenure, but if it gives me 8 to 10 years, then it will keep its five star rating. Yes the operating system is a bit buggy, but nothing too bad, and no bloom or weird spots, that has been 100% solid, and why I give it five stars as i was afraid it would have some, but none so far, knock on wood. So keep updating it Sony, and lets get sports going in 4k. Shark week now, and football in a month, oh yah, TV may not be the best for a person, but it certainly is enjoyable. And seeing the GD's final concerts is a bittersweet joy. Hope this does not jinx the tv, hahah, better not...

Got this beauty as a replacement for my 70 inch pioneer Elite that had a red line down the screen. Thank goodness for the warranty! .I paid more but you get what you pay for. We had people over for Easter and they were amazed at the picture on this tv. Tried out Avatar in 3d and was amazed at the picture .The Elite was good but this one is even better seemed like we missed half the effects. Great tv!
