That being said, it's also great for street .photography and provides an interesting approach for landscape if you're looking for something a little different that then traditional wide angle shot

This lens renders such beautiful images, especially portraits. Although its not your typical walk-around lens, I always carry it around since it's nice and compact (also well built), as it offers a different look and challenge.

Price doesn't always determine how good a product

Quiet, responsive, edge to edge sharpness and for what you will probably use this lens for, more than meets the need. Especially for the price. 1.8 is about a stop and a half faster than the 1.4 in real life terms. Most times you don't need it. It's one of Sony's better values. Buy it while you can. They always find a reason to get you to buy the new lens when what you have is perfectly good.
