Not bad sound, but not as comfortable as preferred

So, I can be a bit picky when it comes to gaming headsets (well, any type of headset). For me, comfort is a bit more important than the sound quality. For the new Sony INZONE H5 Wireless Gaming Headset, I'm a little mixed on both. For the sound quality, it is pretty good once the equalizer was set the way I like it in the INZONE Hub app. Was a blown away, not quite, but for the amount of gaming I do, it would be fine. It could definitely portray directional sounds quite well (when listening for the direction that footsteps or other sounds are coming from). For testing the mic, I played a few games with one of my sons. His thoughts on the voice clarity were a little low. He mentioned it was a little muffled/distorted, and had trouble understanding all the words. I tried adjsuting a few mic settings in the INZONE Hub app, but it didn't seem to help. Still, with most of the gaming I do, I don't chat much or just play single-player. For comfort, I would prefer a headset that I could wear for an hour or two and not be bothered. For this one, it's not the worst experience I've had (at least it doesn't feel like I'm wearing channel-lock pliers because it is so tight), but what seems to bother me the most is the headband cushion. Even though the headset itself is pretty light, the foam is just a little too stiff and wish that they had used the same softer fabric as the earcups instead of the slightly stiffer leatherette-style material. It does seem to bother the top of my head, but still, not the worst I've tried. The earcups are definitely big enough, but the way it sits up against my head around the ears could be a little more comfortable to be able to wear for long periods. The design is just a simple, typical gaming headset design, with the normal "raise to mute" microphone. The volume control design on the left ear cup is interesting. There is raised plastic on either side of the wheel, and the wheel doesn't really stick out past it, which makes it slightly more difficult to use. The power button is on the right ear cup. It does have a 3.5mm jack (with included cable) to connect in wired mode to the computer. The charging is via USB-C port, with included USB-A to USB-C cable. One thing that is a little nice is that the headset can still be used wireless while charging. The instruction mentions that it may not be best to use it while charging when connected via cable. There is also a GAME/CHAT button that is used to determine which output is prioritized to listen to. CHAT increases the volume of chats, while GAME increases the game sound volume. The battery life is up to 28 hours, and you can get 3 hours of use with a 10 minute charge (but as mentioned, it can still be used while playing if charging near where you are sitting). While this may not be my favorite headset, it is still decent and will probably get some use.

Over the years I've tested numerous headsets, headphones and so on. Several for gaming several for not. The Inzone's I have to say are really nice. The price point is definitely in a competitor rich arena. What makes it stand out to encourage you to pick it up over another similar price headset? The features and integrations it has with the PS5. 3D audio, which carries over from the other Inzone's or the original Pulse Headset. You can tailor it to your hearing in the PlayStation settings so you can have a more personalized sound. The spatial audio works really well and you get that depth and sense in games. I mainly tested it in Spiderman and I also tested it in Final Fantasy XV, though the latter didn't have 3D audio support since it's a PS4 era title. That said though, they worked great for both. You could definitely differentiate the levels of distance of sounds. Comfort wise they're great. I fully charged them before using them and of the 8 or so hours I initially put in, they were still showing 3 full bars of charge so the 28 hours is likely more than achievable. Sound quality wise they're really nice. There's a bit of leaving towards the low end but it's not overwhelming. Mids and highs come through very well. I didn't test them with just music though, but game music sounded fantastic especially with Final Fantasy XV. The mic I have no issue with though I probably play single player titles on my PS5 so it didn't get much use. Of what it did, the quality was fine. You'll never get the quality of a dedicated microphone from a great of course. No one complained about beaing unable to hear me. The AI feature with the mic certainly helps to filter out unwanted sounds from being picked up. The flip to mute is always a welcome feature as it's less hassle that hunting for a mute button. You can also adjust your game and chat mix directly from the headset. I do wish there was a different volume adjustment method. The dial is nice and you can feel the steps when you increase our decrease the volume level. I think it gave been better to have either a touched based adjustment or even a different supply of dial. The other thing is I wish there was no need for the USB dongle when using it for the PS5. It makes sense for PC, but we're taking about a first party Sony device, so it would only make sense that the headset could connect directly to it but this is not the case. The 360 Spatial Audio app is quick and easy to use and helps give a more personalized feel to ears. Overall I'm very happy with these and I'm sure I'll get plenty of use from them over the years.

If I could only use one word to describe these Sony - INZONE H5 wireless Headset it would simply be - WOW! I am and have always been a HUGE fan of Sony products, all of our televisions are made by Sony. I have a pair of earbuds made by Sony that are my go to earbuds. So I went into this review trying to put aside how much I enjoyed Sony products. My son and I had just purchased new gaming headphones, he uses his w/ a gaming console and I use my on a laptop when I play games. The pair we had were working amazingly well and I was reluctant to change. I am so glad that I did. These are by far the lightest headphones I have used while gaming and the sound quality is by far the best I have ever used. I have asked on several occasions the other members that I game online w/ how my voice sounds as and if they noticed any difference? Most everyone did say that it seemed a lot clearer and no background noise. The setup w/ these Sony INZONES was so simple that it only took a few seconds it seemed to get them up and going. The battery life on these is remarkable to the point they really blow the others that I had had out of the water. I can’t imagine anyone can make a better pair of wireless gaming headset, Sony in my opinion sets the bar when it comes to gaming, sound, vision. If you are in the market for a remarkably made set of headphones to change your gaming experience, PURCHASE THESE Sony INZONE’S.

The packaging of these seemed premium. I like the White Playstation feel they have. As far as setup there was just a USB receiver with a slider for PC/Playstation. Download and install the inzone software. Then play. They were comfortable and the mic had the flip up to mute option. I found the battery life good as would be in this segment. A few hours of gaming the week every day and I did not run out of battery. As for the In Zone software it was pretty basic. More importantly the sound profiles did not change much. The bass boost and Eq adjustments did not really sound the same as typicall Sony wireless headphones. When I listened to music despite playing with all the settings from Bass Boost to Spatial sound. The headphones sounded flat and tinny. They did not seem to the performance of headphones in this price range. When playing Forza and Fortnite I did hear a fuller surround sound when gaming which was a plus. Everything sounded average but again for the price there are better choices with better sound profiles. Also the lack of Bluetooth lowered the options of devices I could connect these to. When chatting both in game and via Teams/Zoom there were often where the user said I sounded far away or would randomly cut out. I tried rebooting and changing every setting as far as the mic in the In Zone software, but nothing helped. So not sure if this is their limit of performance or a future update might fix them. I was pretty let down by the price point. I expected better from Sony.

Hi KKCNIck, We appreciate your detailed feedback on the Sony Inzone H5 headset. We take pride in delivering a premium experience, from the packaging to the design. We're very happy to hear that you like the excellent battery life and ease of setup with just a USB dongle and a slider to choose between PC/Playstation.
We're continuously working to improve our products and your inputs are valuable to us. Regarding the sound quality, we're sorry to hear that adjusting the bass boost and Equalizer using the app didn't meet your expectations. We'll use this feedback to enhance our audio profiles. We also understand the importance of a clear and stable mic performance, and we regret to hear that resetting and changing every setting in the Inzone hub software didn't improve the situation. Another "Meh" Sony headset

I will preface my review by stating that I am not the biggest headset guy. I currently play video games on my PS 5 through my 5.2 home theater system. But my buddies swear by headset gaming. Their endorsements along with how quickly the original Pulse headset sold out had me thinking that maybe I was missing out on something. I bought the Pulse but wasn't really impressed so I returned it. I decided to give headsets a second chance with this newer Sony model. I figured that even if it didn't work out for me with gaming at least I could use it for playing music. The headset arrived and I quickly unboxed it to try it out. As is so often the case with electronics these days, there are only rudimentary instructions included with the unit. It basically just shows you to plug in the dongle, turn on the headset and that's about it. Granted with a pair of headphones set-up should be pretty simple. But I'm really not happy with this trend of companies wanting to save a little money by NOT printing instructions. I guess they figure it's better to just let customers figure it out on their own or go online to get a manual. Anyway, the first thing I did was to plug the headphones in with the charging cable and charge the headset for an hour or so. Then I plugged the dongle into the front of the PS5 and turned the headset on. The PS5 did immediately recognize the headset as an icon showed up in the upper right of the screen of my TV. But while playing Jedi Survivor I had no sound from the headset. I went into "settings" on the PS5 and could see that the headset was set up as the input and output device for sound so that wasn't the problem. After trying to troubleshoot the issue, I called Sony customer service and the representative tried to stumble through solving the issue. First problem was that these headphones are so new, the Sony rep had some trouble even finding information about them. Then once he did he basically just had me do a factory rest on them and still there was no sound. After being on the phone with the guy for about 20 minutes he finally gave up and said that there must be a setting in the PS5 that was causing the issue. Unfortunately he didn't have knowledge of the PS5 and he wasn't able to transfer me over to them because of some sort of internal technical issue. But he said that he would have the PS5 tech people call me back. Surprise, surprise but that phone call never happened. I went back into the PS5 audio settings and finally found that the headset audio was set to "chat". What it needed to say was "all audio". Once I made that simple change, I got the headphones working. So how do the headphones sound? Meh. They sound OK. I wasn't impressed with the sense of space or directionality of the speakers. The sound basically just sounded like stereo. I didn't really get the impression of 3D or objects around me in space. My home theater speakers do a much better job of conveying realistic sound. So then I decided to try listening to music with the headphones. Again the sound was "meh". They basically just produce mid-range tones. They don't produce a lot of bass or treble. Very middle of the road, lifeless sound. At least the headset seemed to be very comfortable to wear. They're relatively light and they didn't hurt my ears. Wearing glasses with them was a bit of a pain though. One drawback to them is that you have to use the dongle with them so that means that you cannot use these headphones and charge a controller at the same time as the PS5 only has one USB connection on the front.

The Sony INZONE H5 is a fantastic gaming headset, especially for first person shooter games that need directional audio. The bass notes are clear and definitely send footsteps through to you in a way that you can feel so you have that edge that you need. The ear cups are definitely comfortable, my ears felt fine even after wearing this for many hours! The microphone is well placed on this headset, and it is very easy to maneuver to get into the best position for you. So far my only complaint that keeps this from getting 5 stars is the fact that I have a pretty big head (it's a curse!) and this headset does run a tad small for me, which causes it to fit a bit tighter than I would prefer. This is in no way a dealbreaker though, it is just a small concern that I have. I have also listened to movies and music and this headset does a great job in that area as well, with clear highs and enough low notes to bring in the full sound spectrum quite nicely. I have also spent some time on work conference calls and it brings my voice through loud and clear! Overall a great option in its price range!
