For anyone looking to upgrade from the XM4s— These are *much* lighter and more comfortable if you wear them constantly like I do. I've worn the XM4s just about every day for the past 14 months, for at least 4 hours a day. From day one, the cups hurt my ears after 3 or so hours. I've been wearing these XM5s for nearly 5 hours now and I have no outer ear pain! They also hold a charge like a champ. Noise cancellation is the #1 priority for me, as everyday sounds at home set off my anxiety. I want the sounds of my neighbors, passing cars/sirens, AC, etc. dulled to near non-existence. These do the trick! The XM4s are fantastic, but these are better. There's less sound leakage, for one, due to the new design/shape of the pads. That being said, I wouldn't have upgraded from the XM4s if noise cancellation wasn't my #1 need. These have better sound without any equalizer needing to be set, but the price point of these XM5s are steep considering how good the sound of the XM4s is, especially with the equalizer. That being said, if you don't already have the XM4s, or want the top of the line ANC, these are worth it in my opinion.

Great headphones! I have owned the XM2,XM3, XM4, and the XM5. I have enjoyed these headphones for their phenomenal noise, cancellation. They have amazing adoptability in the app on how much or little noise canceling you would like how you would like the headphones to sound if you would like the headphones to adjust automatically to your surroundings or you adjust it manually. The app and headphones are designed to be easy to use yet. Give you complete control. I use these headphones every day and having it be a large 30 hour battery life with ANC on is incredible. I am a very heavy user of the headphones and love the battery life, comfort, ease of use, solid connectivity, great sounding audio. I’m a student and do a lot of video editing work, these headphones, allow me to focus on my work and not get distracted by all the noise in activity around me. One minor complaint is the previous models of Sony‘s wireless headphones all were collapsible, and the earmuffs folded in this model is not collapsible, which makes it harder to store in my bag since the carrying case is much larger, and I frequently grab the headphones backwards since that earmuffs fold the opposite direction of the previous models. Besides that love the headphones.

One of the best birthday gifts to myself that I’ve ever purchased!!!! I did my homework and started saving money for these headphones. I was even gifted cash and gift cards from a few who knew I was saving up. 11/10 recommend these to busy moms like myself who get easily distracted or are very nosey. When I need to focus, I turn on the noise cancellation and tell those around me “bye”…. my family already knows what that means. I’ve had these headphones for about 2 years now and have a cheaper version on order to give my son for Christmas. If he does well with them, I see myself handing my pair down to him or buying the newer version. I love how flexible to features are, including being able to turn off the talking feature that pauses your sound. That comes in handy when you’re sick and coughing or sniffing… learned real quick just how sensitive that feature can be. For the most part, I used my headphones when cleaning house, gaming on my PC, and traveling (I’m a passenger princess). They easily connected to my PC, 2 different IPhones and an IPad. I haven’t tried any other devices but I bet they’d connect to at least two of the TV’s we have. I have let my son use them but with their pricey cost, I get nervous. We both love how comfortable they are and the long battery life is unbelievable! I wish I hadn’t waited so long to purchase them. They quickly became a staple item to have! *excuse the horrible picture of myself cleaning house…. It was the only one I had of my wearing the headphones.

The design is the first change I took noticed. While I do miss the swivel/folding aspect of the xm4; this isn’t an issue in the slightest. It does feel a bit lighter and the cushions are comfortable. I’m getting vibes of the AirPods Max overall minus the metal components. The case is nice with a central compartment to hold the cables. The stock sound signature without the use of EQ’s is amazing. The details on every level (lows, mids, highs) is prominent. Additional mics improve ANC & clear phone calls. It also boast the newest Bluetooth codec (5.2). Is it worth the upgrade over the xm4s? Probably not. But from the xm3s or your first pair of 1000x series, definitely worth the purchase.

I love the Sony XM series and have been wearing them since 2020 with the XM3s. When I upgraded to these I was excited, but they’ve unfortunately broken on me many times. I return to them because the comfort and sound quality is there, but I wished the hinges around the headphone and headband area were stronger and not made of a hollow plastic. That actually changed in their new XM6’s which I have yet to be able to afford, but I do love that they finally added a metal hinge which will hopefully be more structurally sound (and repairable). My Best Buy+ membership is the only reason I haven’t bought a different pair, so shoutout to whoever sold me on it a couple years ago as it’s saved me thousands and I still get to enjoy the Sony brand. I like these, but would not recommend them over the XM4 or XM6 models. Additionally some problems I’ve had are it just shutting off randomly, disconnecting the audio from my phone while still being paired, and other weird software (possibly i’m no expert) related issues that have made owning them more frustrating than previous models.

Great Headphones for relaxing. Studying, working out & making phone calls. These are my go to headphone because they are Comfortable, Minimal, Stylish & sound amazing. The ANC works really well & so does the transparency mode. The Mic is great for phone calls as well. Battery lasts long plus it's usbc so it charge's pretty quickly. 100% recommend if your looking for great sounding headphones that are also comfortable & look great. I wish I picked these up when they were on sale for $349 during the Holidays. Pick up & Enjoy.

Had both previous pairs of XM3's & XM4's and i wasnt sure if these could top them but i was definitely wrong. Sound Quality 10/10 Great sound quality as always, i feel the 1 thing to improve on would be the ambient and not saying that its bad because its still fantastic but compared to the Airpod Max, there ambient is a tad bit better, but still works insanely great! Bass 10/10 Sony giving us the option to adjust the bass through the app is great. I believe the bass is around the same quality as the XM4's except with this new sound quality i feel like it fits it very well and has an overall good match with it. Design 9/10 Only because i personally liked the XM4's ability to twist and fold into a nice case. The case the XM5's come with are still good and have a nice magnet pocket to hold your cord accessories or anything that you want. Battery Life 10/10 Super fast charging speeds so you dont have to worry about 1 hour charges. 3 min charge = 3 HOURS OF PLAYTIME!

The Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones are incredible! The sound quality is rich and immersive, with deep bass and crystal-clear highs. The noise cancellation is next-level I can completely tune out distractions. They’re lightweight and super comfortable, and the battery lasts all day. Honestly, these might be the best noise-canceling headphones I’ve ever used—and I’ve tried them all. The noise cancellation is so dialed in I’ve actually considered sleeping with them on. I’ve used them extensively for travel, work, and casual listening, and they consistently impress. The active noise cancellation is industry-leading—completely silencing plane engines and background chatter. Sound is rich and well-balanced, with deep bass and crisp highs. The lightweight design and soft ear cushions make them perfect for long listening sessions. Battery life easily lasts over 30 hours, and the quick charge feature is a lifesaver. Touch controls are intuitive, and the companion app offers excellent customization options. If you're looking for premium wireless headphones, the XM5s are worth every penny.

The sound on these are fantastic. It has rich Bass. I’m impressed with the options that that it has the app provides a lot of different settings that I never would have thought of with other headsets much more customizable than my Apple AirPods. It also has good integration with different apps and your phone. If you have a Sony TV it has excellent benefits to be able to watch TV using your headset, it integrates really well with Sony and will even pause your show when you take off your headset. The headset is also very light surprisingly light. It does run hot not in physical heat, but in sweetness if it’s hot outside. There’s even some kind of AR game that you can play using the headset. I’m interested in learning more about this as I haven’t had a chance to play with it much yet. If you do have a Sony TV and a PlayStation five you can actually use these as a gaming headset. It won’t have microphone, but you can use your PlayStation 5 controller microphone, but you will get the full surround sound audio so you can still hear those footsteps in COD. Long battery life

My "daily driver" headphones are in-ear Beats Fit Pro and AirPods Pro; wired Westone W40 (airplanes); and Bose QC35 ii (which for some reason has started to disconnect from my iPad Pro). These are the best, but I do not plan to take from home except on trips (due to their size and the case). Pros - Noise cancelling is absolutely the best for white noise (my AirPods Pro - latest firmware - has lost 80% of noise cancellation) - I can play music super low - like 5-15% of total. I can't imagine what "loud" is on these... - Sound stage is excellent. I haven't had to mess with the EQ nor on-device bass reduction, even though strong bass gives me a headache - Bluetooth connection is good with Apple products (I haven't tried multi-device connect - which works really well with Bose and Apple headphones - because I don't want to disable LDAC) - The app isn't bad. Quirky, okay, but there are a lot of controls - and you can see Sony has improved it over the past 2-3 years with more functionality - Speak-to-pause works well (disables noise cancellation and you can talk with others). Some quirks to it - i.e. if you manually turn on passthrough it will accidentally turn on noise canc ... this happens sometimes.. - Fit is comfortable compared with others (Bose QC35/45 have also been good to me) - Bluetooth connection is stable 50+ feet from the source. If this becomes a problem, you can disable some things to get greater distance Cons - The "cabin pressure" of Sony headphones appears greater than Bose - They do get warm on my ears - the "leather" is plasticky - The matte plastic coating picks up fingerprints and oil like nothing else - They cut out a bit on certain iOS sources - I need to investigate as it might be either alerts or something else confusing the Bluetooth source - Music pause (when removed from ears) always works. But resume only works about 20-30% of the time. - Touch controls can be infuriating at times. I've disabled, but it still makes the touch sound... - Dog barking and people talking still leaks through. I presume so will airplane announcements - they've had to do this for safety reasons Cost cutting - The case is really cheap - I'm guessing the zipper will break within weeks - The blue power/pairing light isn't helpful - they should have used green/blue/red for on/off status (cost cutting) - and doesn't show solid as you're turning it off - The USB port - Type C - seems cheap/weak. This could be an issue real soon. - The outside box, as well, is super cheap. You have to nearly tear it apart to get the headphone box out. [UNBOXING is awful] - They came - on day 1 - only charged 63%. That seemed a bit odd for a new release... And they are expensive - $400 is not cheap, yet the case and box are really cheap.

Been using these headphones for about a month now and I’m loving them. Picked up the Midnight Blue version- looks great and feels super comfortable even for long sessions. The noise cancellation is top-notch. Snagged them at a discounted price during Thanksgiving, which made it an even better deal. Highly recommended!

The main highlight of these headphones is definitely the noise cancellation. It is so awesome and possibly the best headphones in terms of noise cancellation. They easily block out noise in my household when I’m doing homework, and I use them when I play video games as well, when I say they are awesome, they ARE awesome. Ever since purchasing I use them everyday, and they’re quite addicting to use as well. Another thing is they are lightweight. I promise you when you hold them it almost feels like you’re holding nothing, that’s how light they are! When putting them on as well, you barely can tell that you’re wearing them, they don’t leave your ears sore or anything like that, I’ve worn them for hours and not once did I have to adjust them or take them off because I was getting tired of them. They are worth it, trust me.

Had these for more than a year and thought I’d leave a review. These headphones are probably the best noise canceling from Sony. Better bass than the XM4s and battery life. I get at least 22-25 hours of battery life paired with the iPhone 12 for the past year shocking. I don’t even need to max the volume because the noise canceling does so well with its smart chip. I sleep with no issues with these on haha. I like the headphone app in which I could change the sound settings to my liking. I listen to a lot of genres and it sounds clean. Audiophiles rejoice!!

These Sony headphones are the absolute best purchase I could have made! The sound cancellation on these are absolutely supreme, along with the Ambient mode it works wonders no matter where I bring them they fit perfectly. The battery life is beyond AMAZING charges in minutes and stays alive for hours.

I love these headphones. I’ve used them for over a month now and have to say I’ve honestly never had headphones that are so comfortable and fit so well. They’re my first pair of expensive over the ear headphones, so I was worried they would squeeze my head tight, but I’ve even fallen asleep with them and felt fine! I’ve worn them for hours on end, the battery does last a while even when not fully charged. The app for the headphones could be a little bit more user friendly and have a few bugs worked out, but it’s still easy enough to use. Pairing is simple, it even paired to the Bluetooth on my television. These are also my first noise cancelling headphones, and it’s really nice! It even worked well for me when I was sewing on my sewing machine and my partner was playing video games next to me. The music on a low volume was still enough to completely drown out everything too.
