I would only recommend using this if you have a newer phone though. (used this with an iPhone 12 pro and it was a little finicky.)

Square Reader - Good But Batttery limited

It only works when Cell Service/WIFI service is available. It does permit tap, or Swipe of Credit Cards, and software accepts manual entry. Unit is moderately priced, and better than the scan swipe, however if you're just getting started, and are budget constrained, you might start with the plug-in swipe only device. Given today's battery advancements, Square should look to improve the battery life on a full charge to 8 - 12 hours.
