Nice headset, terrible software
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING THESE HEADSETS BEWARE THE HEADSETS FORCES YOU TO USE SONAR IF YOU WOULD LIKE THE CHATMIX SOFTWARE TO WORK IN ANY CAPACITY. YOU CANNOT USE CHAT MIX WITHOUT SONAR. WHILE SONAR IS NICE IT LACKS A LOT OF THE POWERFUL FLEXIBILITY OF OTHER AUDIO SOFTWARE. TL;DR : SONAR IS NICE BUT INFLEXIBLE, THIS HEADSET IS ONLY NICE IF YOU USE SONAR.

Simultaneous connection is flawed
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sound quality is great. Unfortunately, it does not want to switch from 2.4ghz microphone to Bluetooth if I am connecting to a FaceTime audio call or messenger call. The whole reason I purchased was so my son could game on his laptop and use his iPad for party chat.

This Wireless Gaming Headset Is Legit
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This will be my first SteelSeries gaming product, so I was eager to use and compare them to other gaming gear brands that I am more familiar with. After a few days of testing, I can say without reservation that the Arctis Nova 7 Wireless Gaming Headset sounds excellent! They sound as good or better than any of the gaming headphones I have used over the years. But in one important area, they are actually an industry leader! Read further and I will explain. So what impressed me the most is the simultaneous connection capability. Multipoint connectivity is somewhat widespread, but none that I have used so far do it as well as the Arctis Nova 7. SteelSeries has really nailed it here. What sets them apart is that a Bluetooth connection can be established and used at the same time as the USB receiver. What that means is that you can be gaming or watching videos on your laptop via the USB receiver, and be connected to your phone via Bluetooth. So if you receive a phone call or text the sound is received automatically. I find this method to be superior to Bluetooth multipoint because of the inherent stability of the RF USB connection. Some other products also require that you manually flip a switch or hit a button to swap devices, but this product does it seamlessly. Since I have multiple laptops and primarily use a hub with multiple monitors, I especially like using the USB-C receiver which I insert into the hub. This allows me to easily swap out my laptops and be instantly connected with these headphones. If you are going to use them with a compact laptop, you might have to use it with a hub or connect by Bluetooth because some smaller laptops only have one or 2 USB-C ports, one of which needs to be reserved for charging. This is not a problem for me because I always travel with a portable hub. But if your laptop has 2 or more USB-C ports then this will likely not be a factor. Included is a USB-C to USB-A adapter. The sound quality of these headphones is outstanding! They produce powerful, full range sound with apparent ease. The high quality drivers really make a difference! Bass is tight and defined and can be adjusted by using the EQ in the App. The App is nicely designed and makes customizing the headphones easy. All but the most demanding of audiophiles will be pleased with how good they sound. The battery life is rated at up to 38 hours. This seems to be quite accurate because after 3 days of heavy use, the battery read as barely reduced. These headphones are not active noise canceling, but the size of the cups create a seal that provides a lot of passive noise cancelation. Another thing I really like about them is that they do not look like gaming headsets. The solid black color makes them look like a pair of traditional high-end headphones. I hope more gaming companies start doing this, because not everyone wants headphones that look colorfully loud. The retractable boom microphone also helps make them look like a regular pair of headphones. The build quality is excellent. I can usually tell instantly the first time I pick headphones up whether they are cheap. These headphones feel solid and well constructed. They are quite comfortable and I had no problem using them for hours at a time. The retractable boom microphone deserves an honorable mention because of how well it works. An external microphone will always work better than an internal microphone so I use it not only for gaming but on phone calls. The people I have spoken to have commented that the sound is significantly improved when it is extended. When I don’t need it, it is easily pushed in. I truly did not know what to expect from SteelSeries, but after using the Arctis Nova 7 headset I am thoroughly impressed. They look good and sound great. But what sets them apart is the very best multi device connection method I have ever used. In this area they completely nailed it!

Excellent Headset
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Easily the best headset I’ve ever had. GG software is super easy to use with a variety of premade EQ settings. Mic sounds clear. The sound quality for what I use it for (lot of gaming and light music) is exceptional. Good bass. I’ve played for long (8+ hour sessions) and it sits very comfortably. I’ve read that the little strap starts to sag a bit, but I’ve used it almost everyday for over a year and still fits nice and snug. The little chat mix scroll wheel on the side is a game changer if you frequently play with people in chat. Instead of fiddling with the sound settings to hear both your friends and the game you can use that to set it right where it suits you. I use it with my ps5 as well. Although there isn’t any EQ settings through console it still sounds great. Highly recommend

Nice features but there is room for improvement
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve used many different headsets for gaming over the years, and I still have a few that I use depending on if I’m gaming on my desktop at home or if I’m at a remote location on my laptop. I’ve evolved to be pickier in my taste for headsets, and in particular I only use ones that only have spatial/3d/atmos sound. For those that play FPS multiplayer games, understand the importance of detailed sound in-game. It really gives you a good advantage, for instance in the COD lineup of games, especially those that support Atmos. On top if it, having good sound quality really gives an enjoyable experience even in single player games. This is my first headset from SteelSeries, so I was looking forward to see what they had to offer. Opening the package you get the USB receive, aux cable, and 2x USB A to USB C cables. First thing I did was install the GG software from their website and updated the firmware. You will need to have both the USB receiver and headset plugged into the computer at the same time, hence why they provide 2 of the same cables. After doing a couple of updates, the software appears to offer various options and settings including an equalizer, mixers and soundboard options. There also appears to be screen recording options for games for those that like to stream. You can also use their software with other headsets and speakers which is pretty nice. So starting off with initial impressions, the headset is pretty light, which is great for extended use. The ear cushions are more of a cloth which are pretty comfortable. I really like retractable microphone, probably my second to best favorite feature of this headset. Others have them removable which is alright, but then I have to worry about losing it, packing it, or going through extra effort of plugging it in correctly (some are more challenging than others). Once I had it connected on my PC using the usb receiver, I didn’t feel much of a wow factor. However, I tested out the Dual Audio Streams which is amazing! I’ll be connected to my PC for games and also connected to my phone for calls and can listen to both at the same time. Seamless and fumble free! This is big for me since I work from home and require a headset for meetings, play games, and like to be able to easily answer calls on my phone without doing a bunch of extra steps…great feature! The 38 hour battery life and rapid recharge time is a nice feature too, especially for lasting as long while being as lightweight as it is. Now for the things I’m not so impressed with it. First thing I noticed was the volume doesn’t seem to go very loud. You have a built-in volume on the headset and of course a volume from your source, such as computer or phone. Sometimes both are the same and controlled by the headset, but this headset keeps them separate (which I like), but the max volume isn’t very loud. It also depends on what application is using the sound, but I basically have my PC and Headset volume set normally to 90% or higher just to get good sound. Don’t get me wrong, some apps such as iTunes music plays it loudly but COD, youtube, and a few other sources I have to have at least 90%. Then comes sound quality. I would give it like 6 out 10. The sound seems more average to medium quality. The spatial sound option, which I’ve enabled in the Windows settings, doesn’t seem very broad. Their GG software has a test sound for gaming and for spatial sound and it just didn’t sound very clear on the different sound locations. In a nutshell, I had higher expectations for the headset sound quality but am impressed with the dual audio stream and retractable mic. The fact that you can be gaming one minute, then retract the mic and start playing music on your phone to turn it into a regular headset is pretty awesome. The volume issue may be able to be resolved with firmware or software updates, but maybe its only an issue to me. I just like the option to have solid sound without going to 100% volume. Their software is pretty useful with lots of options even for other headsets. It’s a good headset, but I think if they are able to improve the sound quality and volume limitation, it would be a great one.

A definite step up from basic headsets
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Summary: The Arctis 7 is a competent gaming headset and with a feature that distinguishes itself from the competition, the ability to mix audio from your computer/console and from your mobile device (phone). This is great for taking calls while playing games. Beyond that, it has all the features you would want, decent audio, good wireless connection, great battery life, and comfortable for hours. But it straddles a difficult price point, it's not cheap or premium, and people looking for one or the other will have to think carefully. This shows up in the confusing controls and lack of case. Pros - Combines the game sound from a console/computer with a blue tooth mobile device so you can listen to both simultaneously. - Easy to connect via the 2.4 ghz USB C dongle resulting in low latency gaming. - Good sound for the intended purpose, reasonable Bass and Treble. - Almost unlimited configurations of sound stage and fit, if you like to tweak. - Works fine for phone/video calls. - Extendable microphone is easy to tuck out of the way when too used (and protects it), or bring out when you need it. - Good battery life (24 hours). - Extremely comfortable for long time playing. Cons - Muddy middle frequencies - No case, bulky and does not fold well, so not very portable. - 2.4 Ghz wireless dongle is bulky and will likely block other ports on your device. There is a dongle extender to connect the dongle to get around this, but ungainly. - The bluetooth connects quickly with your first device, but repairing with different devices took several attempts for me. - Almost unlimited configurations of sound stage and fit might irritate if you don't like to tweak. - Controls set is large, a lot to tweak things, but others (power, blue tooth) do double duty and get confusing. There are reasons why the Arctis 7 wins awards, there is a lot to like and recommend about it (see above). The 2.4 ghz connection is fast and easy, the audio works like surround sound and is crisp. The microphone works really well for calls and retracts completely out of the way when you don't need it. Most audio devices these days are set to optimize for the most common preferences and close to how the artists intended. But personal preference varies widely and you can tweak the response to your own tastes via the included software. I liked the middle range punched up a bit. So what is missing? For gamers on the go a case would have been nice. And to get noise cancellation you will have to pay a lot more. And I have to admit the multi function controls drove me crazy. Why would you want to leave the bluetooth on, but the power off, for example? This is why I deducted one point. But for most gamers looking for something a step up from basic headsets, the Arctis 7 is a noticeable improvement.

Recommend this headset
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.SteelSeries knows that they're doing. Just got this headset and have been using the apex pro TKL keyboard for a few years. The headset fits great, sound is good, and mic quality is high. My ONE complaint and the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is the audio automatically starts at 70%. You have to download the software to fix it. Other than that it is perfect headset at a great price point

Pretty solid gaming/phone headset
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The charging colors are vague, when I first plugged in the cable, it was just green. Looking at the manual that means it can be anywhere from 50-100% charged. That seems very unhelpful. When connect to iPhone, it also does not show battery level, which is very annoying. The "Power" button only covers the wireless dongle connector, not the Bluetooth, so if you want to turn off the Bluetooth, you have to press the Bluetooth button. So you have to turn it on and off twice! The noise cancellation is not great, when the mic is out and not muted, it picks up way too much outside noise. This might be "normal" but I also have another headset which really eliminates surrounding sound as it has 8 mics built in to block it out. Of course, that headset is 3x the price, so it's understandable that it is not as good. I've been gaming and using a lot of different headsets trying to figure out which one works best for gaming and for also listening to music/podcasts as I play. My favorite headset for the last 2 years was able to connect to my PS4/PS5 and cell at the same time, so it was perfect. Then I got a Bluetooth only headset w/really good noise cancellation and 3D sound, perfect for gaming - unfortunately - only 1 connection, so I could only hear the game itself. This one is far better than my other dual headset though, mostly because of the power usage on Bluetooth 5.0 - my other headset's Bluetooth range is cut short if I'm connected to both dongle/Bluetooth. This is not the issue with the Nova 7 - even connected to both Bluetooth and dongle, I can walk all over the house and not have the issue my other dual headset has, which makes things so much easier. I used to have to put my phone in my pocket if I was walking out of range. Pros: Connects to 2 devices Bluetooth range works better when also wirelessly connected to dongle Retractable mic that makes the headset seem like a non-mic headset Comfortable to wear for a couple of hours Cons: Noise cancellation isn't great, but I think that's normal/average Two power buttons to turn on and off Battery power levels are not shown and very vague

Nice headset / Frustrating buttons
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I like this headset well enough, but I wish the power button and Bluetooth button were a little less finicky. The headset is well constructed and fits quite snuggly on my head. Even with the strap adjustments, it's perhaps a bit tight for my taste. I love the fact that the microphone can be retracted into the ear cup. Not having it dangle in from of my face when I'm not using it is nice. l also like that there is a physical mute button for the microphone as I'm notorious for forgetting to mute my mic. I'm told that the mic was nice and clear when I used this for chatting in game. Once I got into Bluetooth mode, pairing it with my Switch Lite was a breeze. I also used it with the dongle on my gaming PC. My only real complaints about this headset are the power and Bluetooth buttons. I'm not keen on the current "trend" in tech to have one button perform multiple operations. The whole notion of "press once for this, double tap for that, long press + short press + chew gum at the same time for this other thing" doesn't really appeal to me. I get that they're trying to avoid loading up their device with tons of buttons, but it causes some frustrating headaches. I spent a solid five minutes, and had to consult the instructions, just to turn this headset off. Pressing the power button, I kept getting a quickly flashing green LED, a slow flashing LED, or a solid green LED. Trying to switch in and out of Bluetooth was equally frustrating with an infuriating blue LED right above the power button. I struggled to get it to switch out of Bluetooth mode, and I inadvertently kicked it back into pairing mode multiple times before getting it to work. Aside from this, this headset is great. The sound quality is awesome, and I absolutely love the mic on this.

Easy to connect, great sound, comfortable
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 wireless headset is, in a word, outstanding. First, for comfort level, I’ve never had on a set of over-the-ear headphones as comfortable as these. They are so light that you barely know they’re on your head. The sound quality is superb, with deep basses and great highs. Extraneous sounds are not audible. I could wear these all day. Connectivity could not be simpler. There are several ways to do it, but the easiest is what I did, which is to connect the USB-C wireless dongle to a USB-C port on the computer, turn it on, and turn the headphones on. No pairing necessary as these come paired from the factory. I was listening within 10 seconds of getting these out of the box, and having no wire connection to get tangled is a great plus. The charge-status LED has four colors, but the highest-charge color indicates only that the state of charge is between 50 and 100%. This was the state of charge out of the box, so the headphones were usable immediately with no initial charging necessary. Also included in the box is a USB-C/USB-2 charging cable allowing charging from any USB charging port or wall adapter. There is also a USB-C/USB-2 adapter cable which has a female USB-C port on one end to allow connecting the dongle to a computer that has only USB-2 ports. Finally, there is an audio cable for direct connection to an audio jack. In addition to the above, the headphones can be paired with any Bluetooth source. A button on the headphones accomplishes this. In addition to this, other controls on the headphones are a power button, a volume control, a “chatmix” control to vary the relative volume of game audio versus in-game chat from teammates, a slide-out microphone (a great feature allowing it to be completely stowed away when not in use), and a microphone mute button. Overall, if you need or want a pair of over-the-ear, noise-eliminating, great-sounding headphones, you can’t do better than the Arctis Nova 7. Highly recommended.

Best of both worlds! Game and phone use together!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let’s start with COMFORT! These headphones are GREAT for extended use! The call it a “ComfortMAX” system with an adjustable fit, and it just works. It doesn’t matter how good headphones reproduce sound or what features are included if you don’t want to wear them…and I WANT to wear these. The headphones have a stated 38-hour battery life. I generally don’t run any product until the battery is depleted, but I had over a 35% charge after about 25 hours so that seems realistic. And there’s a quick charge feature that gives you about a 20% charge in 15 minutes with USB-C fast charging. The headphone has a USB-C dongle that will work with PC’s, Mac’s, PS4/PS5, Switch and Oculus Quest 2. And it connects to a phone via Bluetooth so you can game and talk/listen at the same time. The acoustics are phenomenal and includes spatial audio to allow you to identify the direction of sounds, a “pro-grade Parametric EQ” and their Sonar Audio Software Suite that allow you to identify sounds in a game base on presets. The retractable microphone is noise cancelling and includes baked in software to filter noise from team chats either next to you or online. The controls on the unit include volume, a control to increase/decrease the volume of your team members while keeping the game volume the same, mute, and the ability to answer phone calls. Overall this is the best sounding, most comfortable and certainly the most versatile headset I’ve ever used.

Good overall, but could be better.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. To start with, out of the box you only get a disposable bag that these come in. It would have been nice if these at least came in a protective cloth pouch with a drawstring, or even better a zippered case. So if you want to take these on the go with you it might be wise to buy a carrying case. The headset is a mix of plastic and metal, with a little weight to them. The overall build quality is decent enough, but not premium. Earcups appear to just be foam, not memory foam. They can get a little hot after extended use. Comfort is pretty decent and these don't have excessive clamping force. Perforamce wise these are good, but not great. I think the overall volume could be a little louder. If you like your games or audio loud, these aren't the loudest. You can download the Steelseries software and do quite a bit of tweaking to the sound, however. The controls are fairly well laid out, but I'm not the biggest fan of the push-button to mute. Microphone is just okay and it seems to pick up too much ambient noise. So overall these are worth a look, but there is room for improvement. I think these would hold up well to a teenager who tends to abuse their equipment
