This is definitely one of those play every once and awhile games. It does the whole “interactive” movie gimmick. Really not much to expect after you play it, just 2 times at best. Shouldn’t be too strenuous given it’s only a handful of hours long.

This was much more supernatural than the last game in the series. I felt like my choices didn't matter nearly as much in this game as last one in the series; except to get trophies. You can get pretty much all the different endings my making a manual save in the last chapter and saying different things. No matter that you did earlier in the game.

I'm having so much fun with this game! This game is a mixture of survival horror/point and click adventure. Little Hope is part of an anthology. The other game being Man of Medan. Decisions you make in the game affects the outcome of events. It's super interesting! You can play by yourself or with other people either locally or online. Throughout the adventure you'll find pictures which will show you hints or premonitions. It is up to you to determine the fates of the five characters playable in the game based on the outcome of your choices. Any of the five characters can die so make the right choices!

This is pretty fun to play, and scarier than the previous game in the series. It’s an interesting story and was a great time playing it on Halloween.

Lesser horror effort from the makers of Until Dawn

"Little Hope" is the latest entry in "The Dark Pictures Anthology", from the development team that brought us the celebrated "Until Dawn"! "The Dark Pictures Anthology" is an ongoing series of what is supposed to be 8 games, from the makers of "Until Dawn", Supermassive Games. You would think that a game from the team that brought us such a fun and creepy experience would be a sure thing! With the theme of witchcraft, a story narrative seemingly shifting between different time periods, and a promise to be a more traditional horror experience after "Man of Medan", the title seemed like a very promising entry in the series. Unfortunately, "Little Hope" stumbles under the weight of its own ambitions, and fizzles out at the end faster than you can get killed by a demon in this game. The game starts off promising enough. Five characters on a bus trip, and their missing driver, are caught up in supernatural events in the small dilapidated town of "Little Hope". Although it sounds very cliche to say it, the game has a very "Silent Hill"-like vibe to it, with its fog enshrouded town, and seeming trip throughout various dimensions. There are good scares at first, which do succeed in getting a good jump out of you. Unfortunately, the game really only has one type of scare - the jump scare. And this becomes quickly evident as the same graphic and shrill scream noise is re-used over and over again. By the time you hear it the 5th or 6th time, you're no longer scared by it, you're just irritated your ear drums have been blown out. The demons are intimidating at first, serving as your primary antagonist. You fear for the safety of the characters should they catch up with you. Unfortunately, once you realize that there are limited opportunities to defend yourself, and the button presses are sometimes too quick to manage, unlike in "Until Dawn" where you could defend yourself on occasion and your actions seemed to 'matter', they quickly become more tiring than scary. Nobody likes an invincible enemy, without any way to hold him back. Games like "Outlast" and the latter "Silent Hill" games have learned this the hard way. The graphics are adequate, and look nice for the most part, although I've heard some issues from people that the character models aren't as smooth as in previous Supermassive games. But there are some frame rate issues that occasionally manifest themselves, when the demons show up during cut-scenes. Supermassive is famous for using real life actors as templates for their characters by motion caption, but the facial details here were just okay. Not particularly compelling, but not incompetent either. Although there is one little girl who looked odd, and made me think something was up with her character, when there really wasn't - it was just a graphical fault. There is a stiff, jerky feeling to some of the movements by the characters during actions and cut-scenes, but that's just typical of Supermassive Games. The most intriguing aspect for players, and the best, are undoubtedly the characters. This is a very heavily story-based game, like prior Supermassive efforts, and your choices are supposed to represent something about how you see the characters, and yourself. The characters are more grating than in "Until Dawn" and "Man of Medan", but there is still opportunity to grow them, should you make the right choices. Your choices do become more limited as the game goes on, but you will probably have at least one character you actually like, for most gamers. Unfortunately, all of this is undone in the final 30 minutes of the game. Yes, this is one of those games, and movies; we all know the one. The one where hours of majestic building with the story are undone by an insanely stupid twist. Five hours of buildup in this game are undone by one of the most insanely stupid, and cliched and laziest, twists in writing I have ever seen in a video game. Without spoiling anything about what happens, it's meant to appeal to the 'psychological', and the emotional, like a certain entry in another horror series, and give you more empathy and understanding towards a 'certain' character. But what it does instead is just leave you feeling empty and disgusted, like you just wasted your time playing this darn game. I bought this game at a discount. And I still feel like I paid way too much for it. It's not worth any more than $10, or $15, to be honest. And that's stretching it. Replay value is limited, and believe me, once you get done with the story, you will not WANT to play this game again. The compulsion to save all of the characters should be there, like with "Until Dawn" and "Man of Medan", but unfortunately, it is not. I cannot, in all good conscience, recommend this game for a purchase. If you absolutely have to play this game, rent it first. Preferably from Redbox, since it will only last you a night or two, and won't be worth the price of a GameFly monthly rental. We had already seen after "Man of Medan" that there were troubles with the production, but I think most of assumed that was just a one-off thing. But no, they seem to be indicative of far more serious issues with the storytelling and direction at Supermassive, and 'budget' development - putting as little money and effort into something as possible, in order to make a profit. Like a SyFy Channel C-movie. But unfortunately, doing things on the cheap doesn't work for this style of storytelling. If this is the direction Supermassive Games is going in with their newest games, they are in deep, deep trouble. The buildup and atmosphere prevent me from giving this a 'poor' label for a fair review, but the stupid twist at the end and multiple issues with the gameplay and character work bring the game back down to average for me. It could have been good - but unfortunately isn't. It's just mediocre; a great attempt at a New England themed, 'The Crucible' style supernatural horror, brought down by various poor decisions and idiotic turns throughout the development. It's not 'bad'; but it's not good, either. It's just there. Here's hoping that "House of Ashes" proves to be a far better effort - and a redeeming one. Avoid at all costs, unless you have a few bucks for a rental!

Out of all of The Dark Pictures Anthology games, this is the one that freaks me out the most. The only thing I don’t really like are the controls. When you move the character sometimes it feels awkward.

Everything when it comes to story and enjoyment is subjective but I really enjoyed this game. Gave me definite Silent Hill vibes and I’m already excited Bout the new story for 2021. If you don’t mind interactive movie games that rely on quicktime events and dialogue choices then I highly recommend this game.

This is a great horror romp through history. Plan on playing this in one or two long shots. Give yourself time to get into the game. An hour or two won't cut it. Just give yourself a whole day, or night, to complete the game. It's worth it and much better this way in my opinion.
