Can't go wrong with a game by Nihon Falcom. Trails games have great stories and dialogue that make the game such a wonderful experience to go through.

While I’ve only been able to put about 5 hours into Trails from Zero, I can definitely say it’s had me hooked from the start. I haven’t wanted to stop playing each time I’ve had the chance to pick it up. It plays very similar to other Trails entries, but has a unique perspective with the player taking on the role of detective Lloyd Bannings and his newfound role in the Special Support Section of the Crossbell police department. The main core cast of characters are very likeable and their dynamic has been fun to see grow. The turn based combat is a blast as always and quality of life features are fantastic. The Crossbell setting and the smaller main cast of characters makes this entry feel more intimate and special than that of the Sky or Cold Steel arcs. It’s easily my favorite so far. The artwork, soundtrack, and overall level of quality by Falcom and NISA is outstanding. I can’t wait to get more time to play this game and I’ll be highly anticipating following it up with its direct sequel, Trails to Azure, when it releases next year. This is highly recommended!

I haven't played this game much but what I have has been fun. Graphics wise this actually looks better than on higher end consoles just look online and you'll see comparisons that show this, however the game on all the systems are all the same, just slightly better graphics on the Switch. If you like story heavy games then this one is right up your alley, you'll be treated to walls of text, the voice acting is all in Japanese, but the text is in English sometimes the character will audibly grunt, or groan and you'll be treated to a complete sentence. It's odd but it works and doesn't take away from the story. Combat is typical of the series as it's turn based with a grid system but it's fun and allows you to add a little strategy to your battles...at least the boss battles, normal battles are somewhat tedious as you'll be repeating the same things over and over. But that's normal for a lot of RPG's. This is a good game to get if you want an old school 16-bit looking RPG. It also looks beautiful on the OLED Switch and is just as good on the Switch Lite.

I’m a long time fan of the Trails series, so when I found out this one was being localized, I preordered it as soon as I could. Turned based combat and lots and lots and lots of text/talking, which exactly what I like but I know it’s not for everyone. Like every other game I’m the series, the story is slow to develop, but the world is so interesting and fun to explore that I don’t mind that. I am about 12 hours in and am enjoying it immensely. I will say the super ridiculous misogynist on your team whose entire personality is making inappropriate and uncomfortable advances towards all the female NPCs is a downer. A lot about this game is dated, and I don’t mind most of that, but that might be the thing which that sticks out the most to me, in a distracting and negative way. Maybe one day the JRPG will evolve beyond the need to write characters like this, but until that day I will suffer through them to get to an otherwise enjoyable game.

While the cold steel series got really long with 100+ hours games by the end, this one is almost half the lenght but no less engaging, more to the point, less paded and a return to basics with less bloat and baggage later entries have to deal with. Starts small and scalates over time as you discover a plot by people that have way too much interest on a young child and possibly and or overthrowing the goverment, invoking an ancient menace and your usual RPG fare. But it is told in a way that mostly makes sense and get to know the cast on the way. The events run concurrently with cold steel 2 so there's that. Technically, this thing runs better than it has any right to do. Yes, it is old, but when the ps4 version shows flaws the sw version does not have; that's some good porting if anything. Just remember this is part one of a duology with the remainder coming in trails to azure

I was surprised with how invested in the characters I got with this one... This was one of the few Trails games I hadn't played, but I'm glad I got it... The writing is fantastic... Everyone has very distinctive personalities... Battling is intuitive... It's just an overall great gane...

I'll be honest, I totally slept on the Trials series, so I am rather thankful that NIS is releasing more on the Switch. For me, Trials from Zero scratches that Playstation-era RPG itch. Absolutely cannot wait for the next game to come out.

Fun story with twists and turns. Endearing characters that are interesting despite being JRPG staples. I wish it had an English Dub but even without it this is a great game.

I recommend playing the first three Trails in the Sky games first before playing this, but if not it's still a really awesome game if it's your first in the series!

Phenomenal remaster of a PS Vita game that never came to the US. Fully translated, the turn-based JRPG has it all: deep, fun combat, interesting characters, and unpredictable storyline with a police department crew at its core. It’s the first in the Crossbell series, whose sequel, Trails from Azure, will also see a remastered released in 2023. Highly recommended!
