This is one of the most fun Zelda games I have played in a long time and it's for 3DS as well! Now I can take it on the go.

story: just your run of the mill "save da princess" storyline, but some characters' true identities are mind-blowing. gameplay: feels solid. doesn't feel like an old zelda game and link feels a bit slow, but otherwise it's nice and flowing. graphics: great. it's pretty neato that it runs at 60 fps even with the 3d on. i don't like the whole chibi look, though. audio: pretty great, especially for a 3ds game. it's nice and clear, even with headphones.

22 years later, and ALttP is still at the top of the LoZ food chain. So much so that they released another game JUST LIKE A LINK TO THE PAST! Enter A Link Between Worlds. The premise is as formulaic as the genre, and that's about the best news I've had all year. All of the classic Link weapons and items are available (sans Bombos, Quake, and Ether) with a few new twists and additions. All of the enemies from the original make a triumphant return, with fan faves like Helmasaur King and that diabolical Floor Master. Music is ripped straight from the original with a few new remixes. But we get some new with this one as well. While monsters, items and music are close to the SNES original, Hyrule got a distinct makeover. Most places retain there original layout with updated colors/shading, but the flip side of Hyrule (Lorule) is very different from the Dark World. It' s more expressive, restrictive, and the enemies are crazy strong in Lorule, especially when you first get there. Along with the changed layout, the new trick in this version is changing from overhead 3D on a 2D battle plane, to merging with walls with Link appearing 2D and maneuvering around 3D puzzles. The transition is seamless and you get used to working this system. As such, it's opened up a whole new slew of different puzzles not like ones found in Spirit Tracks, Wind Waker, Link's Awakening, etc. The one critique I have with this title is that changing items is a pain. There's some system that an NPC tells you about, but it's too convoluted. Instead, I just kept opening items and picking them from the normal menu. This requires the stylus, while battling and moving requires button presses, so you'll be busy using the touchscreen while playing. I love the Flame Rod and Tornado Rod! The Fire Rod sends a column of fire on the ground hitting enemies multiple times, melting nearly all ice enemies, dealing big damage, and the Tornado Rod is the best Bro Rod in Zelda. It stuns all enemies around Link trying to mob him for ~3 seconds while he avoids damage, and when its upgraded it has an even greater radius and deals more damage. Don't under estimate these two items, they are your bread and butter over the classic bow and sword. Nearly all weapons in the game have a cool down over the classic units. So you can use the bow infinitely without arrows, but you can only fire it so many times before you have to wait. A big improvement in my opinion. All in all, this is THE Zelda to own if you never played A Link to the Past on the SNES or Virtual Console. Even if you have, it's still a wonderful return to a familiar setting with something new. A must have Zelda entry for any fan.

This is one of the great Zelda games, and certainly the best handheld Zelda of all time (not including remakes). The game is streamlined, intuitive, with some challenges, although it is notably easier than many other Zelda games. The bosses are varied and Link's transformation into 2D paradoxically adds another dimension to the game, allowing for him to traverse walls, gaps, and terrains. Access to all the typical dungeon items by renting from Ravio also provides a freedom not seen in traditional Zelda games, where almost any dungeon can be tackled at any time. A must have for your 3DS collection!

An excellent throwback to the Zelda games of old

I have played the Zelda series since the original Zelda. Unfortunately, the last few games were greatly different from the originals both in terms of control (e.g. required usage of stylus) and display (e.g. total 3D versus overhead 2D). This game goes back to the older Zelda games, using a 2D overhead, with the arrow keys and buttons being used for movement and actions instead of the stylus. This makes the game very enjoyable as you have full control of your hero. Beyond that, the game itself has that old school Zelda feel. Part of it is because the world is the same world used in Zelda: A Link to the Past. That said, much has changed regarding the landscape so though the overall geography is the same, items, people, etc. have mostly changed. Further, without spoiling much, you'll get to go to another world that, though has some bearing to Hyrule, is still very distinct in its own right as well. The music of this game is a mixture of new songs, and remixes from A Link to the Past. Either way, the soundtrack is solid. Perhaps the weakest thing about the game is it is relatively short. Even when trying to inflate the game play time (e.g. exploring as much as you can as early as you can), you'll likely clock in between 15 to 30 hours of game play. That isn't horrible, but it seems the game goes by too quickly. That said, the game is enjoyable enough to play again, even if little changes, and likely waiting six to twelve months after beating the game could help in giving the game somewhat of a fresh feel even after being beaten.

This is a great game from top to bottom. It is my first top Legend of Zelda, and my first 3DS game, and I really enjoyed it. There are a variety dungeons, each with their own unique themes. The overworld, from what I've heard, is a great call back to A Link to the Past on the SNES. There are two overworlds: Hyrule and Lorule. The difficulty isn't bad in Hyrule, but enemies get much more difficult in Lorule. Although difficult, the game is always fair. The game is pretty long, for those of you worried about length. There is also a new game + which allows for more replayability. Boss battles are great. There is a boss battle at the end of each dungeon and each is unique. Most follow the three hit formula, but all of them are fun encounters. The story isn't the most compelling thing I've seen, but I really enjoyed it. It did not end how I expected and I applaud it for that. Whether child or adult, there is a story here that you can enjoy. The visuals are satisfying. The artstyle is bright and charming, but it can be dark and atmospheric as when it wants to be. It's not the most visually impressive game, but it certainly looks good. The soundtrack is outstanding. The music fits each dungeon perfectly. You will sometimes find yourself humming the tunes. One of the standout components of the game. I highly recommend this game, not only to all LoZ fans, but to anyone who owns a 3DS. This was my first game for the handheld and I do not regret it.

The first 2D Zelda in several years, A Link Between Worlds meets all expectations that players have for the Zelda franchise. Though the game reuses the general world layout featured in A Link to the Past, there are plenty of new and revamped locales and events to keep it from being brushed off as a "remake" or a "rehash." Story-wise, players may notice many similarities to the iconic SNES game. Once again, Link must save sages, a princess, and Hyrule from a looming darkness, Luckily, the story slightly veers off of the beaten path once Link enters Lorule, the shadow of Hyrule, and meets the kingdom's ruler, Princess Hilda. Most importantly, the ten or so dungeons are all-new and feature clever puzzles that test the player's wall-merging and item-using skills. The new wall-merging mechanic is a welcomed addition to Link's pool of abilities, much like the game's item renting service. This renting service allows players to rent traditional dungeon items, like the Bow or Hookshot, at any time in the story. Being able to rent any of the games items at any time lets players tackle most of the dungeons in any order. However, the main drawback to this freedom is the lowering of overall dungeon difficulty. Since the game uses a non-linear approach, the dungeons are all designed to be the player's possible first dungeon. However, this is not to say that all dungeons are cake-walks. Dungeons intended to be taken on near the end of the game slam players with hard-hitting enemies and puzzles, providing them with a suitable challenge. Although A Link Between Worlds may appear to be A Link to the Past with a coat of 3DS paint, the game is something more. With an interesting enough story, new dungeons, puzzles that challenges players to think outside the box, and a fresh take on the old Zelda item-collecting formula, A Link Between Worlds creates its own identity as a Zelda title. While it may be overshadowed by the two Nintendo 64 Zelda remakes on the 3DS, A Link Between World is a must-buy for players seeking an all-new Zelda adventure.

For those that love the classic zelda games, like link to the past, oracle of seasons, and many other before having the on shoulder point of view, you will love this game. It has an amazing story and an amazing new way to solve puzzles and fight your enemies. This game is truly amazing not only the story is very good and interesting but the gameplay is also very good, making you able to play for hours without getting bored. If you are a zelda fan and loved the classics you should buy this game.

If you loved Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, you need to play this game. It is the "sequel" to the game. This game has a new story, but the overhead map is fairly similar. The dungeons are different, but they have hints that remind those who have plays LttP of the dungeons of old. The difficulty level is fairly similar and after you beat the game, you are given the option to play on hero mode. I can see myself playing this game over and over again.

A Link Between Worlds is a reimagining of the Super Nintendo game A Link to the Past. The map is similar to the original game but it is an entire new game in terms of story, dungeons and gameplay features. The graphics are very vibrant and pleasing to look at. The game is very entertaining to play. It may not be the hardest game but I personally feel this is a good thing and makes it a blast to play. If you want a challenge there is always Zelda II.

This game is both a return to old-school Zelda games and a revival. It's the same amazing world you got in Link to the Past, but now you get to play with whatever toys you want from the beginning! The open-world, do-in-any-order dungeons remind me of how I liked to do the dungeons back in the original LoZ out of order. An amazingly fun game.

When Nintendo announced a sequel to a link to the past I was ecstatic. I've been wanting a sequel for ALTTP since I finished it back in the 90's. But when I finally picked up a 3DS and ALBW, I was somewhat disappointed. I’ve detailed some of the good & bad of ALBW down below. - Some Bosses and most of the Hyrule layout are reused from ALTTP (you would think that buildings/towns would dramatically change in 100 years). - New boss designs aren't exactly that great either. - I HATE how they got rid of the weapon/magic inventory system and replaced it with a meter that fuels everything. - Graphics are great for a portable system. - Music is great; the opening of the game gave me a major nostalgia attack. - Difficulty is really easy, until you hit hero mode. Wish they would have made it somewhat harder during my first play through - Story was ok (its Zelda, collect 3 pendants, 7 crystals, you've heard it before) If you haven't played ALTTP before by all means go and get this game right away! If you have played ALTTP, be warned, it's still a good game, but it will be VERY familiar!

As a huge fan of Link to the Past, I was highly anticipating a Link Between Worlds. And it doesn't disappoint. The attention to detail from the original SNES version, the music, the baddies, and the new set up of the dark world are absolutely stunning. Game play is easy and yet still challenging. The 3D is incredible and there are dungeons or places in the game where Link must climb or fall great heights and the image is unbelievable. This game is a great way to introduce someone to the 3DS and Zelda world.

I've played nearly every major game in the Zelda series, and "A Link to the Past" is one of my favorites. This game draws heavily from it but adds a few new tricks, from the 3D display to being able to explore dungeons in any order and the ability to buy needed quest items. I wasn't quite sure about the last two additions to the series before I picked up the game, but they don't take anything away from it. If this game has one flaw, it's that it's a bit easy. Though most of the games have had the ability to take health-restoring items along with you, this one adds a few additional items that make combat easier (or at least less deadly). But it's a change that doesn't hurt a great game and a great series. If you're a Zelda fan, or just a fan of Nintendo games, this is a must buy for your 3DS.

I purchased a 3DS to play Majora's Mask. I also purchased A link between worlds as I loved the original A Link to the Past. This has alot of familiarity of the previous game but definitely improved on significantly in both gameplay and graphics. Definitely a must for any Zelda fan, and an easy entry game into the series if you are a new fan. It's easy enough to play on your own without looking for help guides, but does have higer difficulty levels once you do beat the game. Will be a classic for me to keep in my library. Nintendo always wins me over with it's exclusive characters.
